Hello,
I am Aniya a rising 11th grader and I’ve recently took AP U.S Government and Politics, Homeland Security, and Social Issues. On top of that I’m going to school to be a Criminal defense lawyer. I think this blog can help myself and others learn and be informed about things related to law. For example breaking down certain criminal cases or certain laws that me, myself had a hard time understanding. I consider this to be a passion of mine because I think I’m informing people with the same interests as me on issues and informing people on important things. If you have ideas on what I should talk about on here, Lemme know 👩🏾‍💼

Don’t Let Criminal Officials Get Away with It - How to Fight Back
Police brutality is so violent that it oftentimes leads to criminal prosecution. In cases such as these, the law enforcement agent is brought to trial to be charged with civil rights violations.
Tumblr media
While it’s true that police are rarely tried for criminal charges, it doesn’t mean a lawsuit can’t be filed.
Having practiced law for many decades, here’s what I think you need to hear from a criminal defense lawyer in California.
Probable causes for filing criminal charges
So, what do police officers have to do to warrant the pressing of a criminal charge by a victim? The state or local official needs to have displayed grossly inappropriate conduct such as:
Harsh police brutality
Let their canine maul a victim
Shot wantonly and unnecessarily at a victim/victims
Planted evidence on a victim/in a victim’s belongings
Sexually abused a victim/victims
How do you file a criminal charge lawsuit?
Firstly, criminal charges are only processed after a victim, or their family has filed a lawsuit. Once this is done, the next step is to begin trying to uncover incriminating evidence. If you’re already in possession of it, for example, audio or video recordings this makes a great start.
What are the likely outcomes of criminal prosecution?
Unfortunately, in California police officers cannot be stripped of their licenses. It’s one of four states that limits the outcomes of a criminal prosecution case.
However, there is a bill that if passed – Senate Bill 2 – would give the government the power needed to remove corrupt officers from the profession entirely if they are indeed guilty of egregious misconduct such as abusing authority, physical abuse, and sexual assault.
A Section 1983 claim or Bivens claim may also be pursued by the victim which can result in an injunction or monetary damages payout.
Looking for a criminal defense lawyer in California?
Are you a victim of police misconduct and wish to press criminal charges? At Steering Law, we have the leading criminal defense lawyer in California. We can help. Contact us for a free case evaluation today.

Personal Injury Lawyer Los Angeles | We Enforce Justice
Tumblr media
Why should you hire a personal injury lawyer Los Angeles? You may also learn that there is no lack of personal injury attorneys available; most operate on a contingency fee basis, which means you owe no costs if they do not win for you, and if they do, the fees will come out of the settlement, so no money is necessary upfront. While there are laws governing how insurance companies operate, what cannot be controlled is motive. As you assess your situation, you should consider whom the insurance company is working for, the statute of limitations, the rules you must comply with, the damages you incurred, and the complexity of proving your case. When you retain our injury attorney, you have an advocate who will monitor the status of your claim and work to resolve it as quickly as possible. Our criminal defense attorney Los Angeles can handle everything from communicating with insurance providers to settling with the defendant's legal team.

5 questions to ask yourself about getting a criminal defense attorney
When it comes to defending yourself in a criminal context, don't trust the judge and prosecutors – you need your criminal defense attorney. One of the many things you can do when facing criminal charges is to hire the services of a skilled and experienced criminal defense attorney.
Regardless of what stage you're at with your case, here are five questions that will answer whether you should begin searching for a criminal defense attorney near me or not.
How quickly do you need an attorney?
If you are being held in jail or prison, you may only have days or weeks to find and hire an attorney before your first court date. If no one is posting bail for you and your family does not have the means to hire an attorney on retainer, then time is of the essence. If there are many attorneys listed online or in phone directories who appear to have experience, call them all immediately and tell them how urgent your situation is. Many lawyers will work with clients pro bono or on a reduced fee basis if they believe the case has merit.
What is your budget for hiring an attorney?
How much money do you have available to spend on legal fees? Many criminal defense attorneys charge on an hourly basis or receive a flat rate per case. Some attorneys may offer discounted rates if you hire them for multiple cases at once. However, some jurisdictions prohibit this practice due to conflict of interest concerns.
How much time do you have before your case goes to trial?
If you have several months until your case goes to trial, it might be a good idea to wait until then to hire a criminal defense attorney. This will give both of you more time to discuss your case and come up with a strategy for how to represent your interests in court. For example, if there are witnesses who could help your case or evidence that needs further investigation, this is the perfect time for both parties to work together without pressure from the courts or other parties involved in the case.
Are you or a loved one facing jail time?
Determining whether or not you need an attorney is figuring out whether or not jail time is on the table. Jail time isn't always mandatory for every crime many crimes don't even carry potential jail sentences. But if there's any chance that you could face jail time when all is said and done, it's reasonable to seek professional legal advice from an experienced criminal defense attorney as soon as possible.
Do you have the time and ability to represent yourself?
It is difficult enough for regular working people to find the time for their cases, let alone someone else's. If you are trying to juggle a career and family with representing yourself in court, then it is probably not going to work out well for either one of those things. Hiring an attorney will free up your time so that you can concentrate on other things such as family obligations or work responsibilities.
When you have been charged with a crime, choosing the right criminal defense attorney is key. A skilled attorney can tell you which charges are likely to stick, negotiate for reasonable terms in your plea, and represent your interests once it comes time for court. If you need help finding a good criminal defense attorney, consider asking yourself these five questions to find one who will competently meet your needs.
