Human Griffith is the MOST caring character in the story.
I’ve come to realise that the assertion that human Griffith is somehow uniquely sociopathic and uncaring compared to other characters in the BotH is absolutely insane.
First of all, I want to lay out the moral equivalence between the Hawks and Griffith in fighting on the battlefield. A lot of people bring up the fact that Griffith was willing to kill people and use people as tools in pursuit of his own selfish goal, without realising that the Hawks did the EXACT SAME THING.
They were willing to kill innocent soldiers on the battlefield in pursuit of their own selfish rise to power (to become lords and nobles). That is NO DIFFERENT to Griffith.
A lot of people say that the distinction between the Hawks dying in the Eclipse and dying on the battlefield is that the Hawks CONSENTED to fight in battle but did NOT consent to be sacrificed, but this is silly.
The entire point of the Eclipse is that it highlights the hypocrisy of the Hawks and the coercive nature of medieval warfare.
While the Hawks did CHOOSE to fight in battle, the enemy soldiers they killed most certainly did not. The foot soldiers of the armies of Midland and Tudor were FORCED to fight in battle through coercive feudal contracts. They were EXPECTED to fight for their feudal lords with punishment if they didn’t.
The Hawks knew of this, but DIDN’T CARE. They have NEVER cared about any kind of contractual agreement or mutual understanding between different sides of the battlefield. The enemy did not consent and they still thought it was fine to murder them, innocent people, for their own superfluous greed in wanting power and glory.
To not care about and never mention this fact about the Hawks and then whine about the unfair nature of the Eclipse is ABSURDLY hypocritical.
You might make the argument about MATERIAL NECESSITY. This has some merit, as Judeau stated that some of the Hawks were originally street urchins with nowhere else to go, but this is in the minority. He states that most of the Hawks are blacksmith’s sons, second sons of rich aristocrats or people who were merely entranced by Griffith’s charisma and wanted glory on the battlefield.
This is not material necessity. It’s superfluous greed. If you can defend an aristocrat’s son for killing innocent people on the battlefield then you can defend a suicidal emaciated man in a hallucinogenic state doing the same thing out of GREATER necessity in the Eclipse, but sacrificing more evil people who deserve it.
What’s more, if you make this argument then you MUST also defend Griffith, who was also a dirt poor street urchin in the slums of Wyndham, who joined as a CHILD.
There’s also the argument about betrayal and loyalty and trust, because the Hawks were his “friends” and they put their faith in him, and that is why he is morally reprehensible.
This argument makes me sick, akin to the morons who try to argue that mobsters are somehow morally upstanding people because they follow the arbitrary code of “la cosa nostra” that they use to pretend they have the slightest modicum of humanity, a code of etticut which provides these evil groups with the mechanism for more success in killing.
Griffith understands this ridiculous creed for what it is, and the God Hand play into this. They explain to him that in turn, his soldiers piled up many more corpses on his behalf, for their own selfish dreams. They are making a moral EQUIVALENCE between Griffith sacrificing his men and his men killing people on the battlefield. There’s NO difference.
Why are they making this equivalence? Because Griffith cares about ALL people, and gives them equal moral worth. Unlike the Hawks, who are only loyal to people so long as they serve some mutual self-interest to each other in strengthening their efficiency to murder and pillage, Griffith actually cares about the people he affects, even strangers.
Guts admits it himself while having a breakdown during his sex with Casca, that he never felt a shred of remorse towards anyone he killed, only Gambino. The Hawks CHOOSE to dehumanise the enemy in their minds as justification for their killing. They CHOOSE to make it impersonal. Griffith REFUSES to do this.
He feels OVERWHELMING guilt towards the tens of thousands of people that died because of him. He goes so far as to whore himself out to Gannon, sacrificing his pride, dignity and mental wellbeing, to ensure that no more of his soldiers have to unnecessarily die in battle. He solemnly laments the “wasted deaths” of the enemy dead while looking over them after a battle, acknowledging that they were forced to be there by their lords and that he had killed them.
Not only that, but Griffith actually wants to END the coercive nature of feudal warfare by creating a meritocratic society.
Griffith is FAR more caring and human than ANY of the Hawks, and the God Hand play on this empathetic guilt in convincing him to  sacrifice his men, to ensure that none of them died for nothing and so their souls could rest in peace.
Finally, he DOES act on the consent of the Hawks cos Slan lied to him that she could read their minds and knew that they’d “forgive” him for being sacrificed in Heaven.

( dev patel, thirty-one, cis-man, he/him ) ☼ i know it’s a small town, but i run into HARIJ ‘HARI’ VASAV every time i go to THE STARDROP SALOON. it’s like they practically live there and not PELICAN TOWN for SIX MONTHS. it must be because they’re STUBBORN and GUARDED. come to think of it, that’s probably why they’re an MONSTER SLAYER too. but i did hear they want to FIND OUT WHO THEY ARE AGAIN, and sometimes they like to BOX. rumor has it they also like BOXING GLOVES, but dislike MOUTH GUARDS. what do you think?
full name — harij vasav nickname(s) — hari name meaning — harij: the horizon. vasav: lord indra age — thirty-one date of birth — august 1st place of birth — stardew valley star sign — leo sun, aries moon, scorpio rising current location — stardew valley gender — cis-male ( allegedly ) pronouns — he/him sexual orientation — bisexual until proven gay religion — hindu / it’s complicated occupation — monster slayer  education level — medical school drop out  family — munjal vasav ( father ), kalyani vasav ( mother ), hayva vasav ( sister ), irshaan vasav ( brother ) finances — getting by  spoken languages — english, gujarati
inspos will come later heavy inspo from creed tho
tw: dsyfunctional family, brother struggles with mh issues, so does hari but it's very light in mentioning, mentions of violence in terms of boxing etc
when your dad is a world renowned neurosurgeon it’s a hard pedestal to fall from, especially if you feel like you haven’t been able to measure up.
hari grew up as a shadow, at least, that’s what his dad called him when he would go to work with his father because him and his mother were fighting again and they couldn’t find child care. it seemed insane that a couple years later they would inevitably get back together again and have another child, and then one more. then, his father would have three shadows.
where hayva was the golden child, and irshaan the forgotten black sheep, it left hari in a weird place in the family. the eldest son, but never the star. he’d parent his siblings, even if it felt like hayva had everything under control. she was, in many ways, a carbon copy of their father.
where his dad was tough, his mother was warmth. they didn’t see each other very much considering most of his time was in his father’s house. they had moved out of the valley when hari was seven, but would visit sometimes since both parents had family still living there.
hari lived his life constantly trying to catch the wave of adrenaline he felt whenever anyone would pick on him at the playground, by the time that hari was ten he learned how to use his fists instead of words. people weren’t always kind to irshaan who didn’t do well in school, and was shy, and hari was the protector and would do anything for his family.
it seemed that the streak of doing anything for irshaan would follow them into their adulthood. by age seventeen irshaan had cut himself off from the family, aside from hari and was constantly on the move to wherever he found his happiness next. it made hari worry for him.
when hari was fifteen he took up boxing as a way to let the anger out, his father and mother never understood why he was so angry all the time and he didn’t know how to tell them that it was the pressure that they put on him, plus the fact that he hardly saw either of them. their parents might have loved hari and his siblings but it sometimes felt like that love could only extend to what kind of glory they could show their friends and family.
things would change about a year after hari’s first year of college. his dad’s hands started shaking, and it was a slow decline by then. hayva went into action, while irshaan ran away from the family, and hari? well, he started skipping classes to go to underground boxing leagues, he’d come home with a black eye and his mother didn’t understand where her boys went.
once upon a time hari’s father had dreams of his eldest son taking over his practice, but hari couldn’t really do it anymore. the rest would fall on hayva who was already in school to take over for her father. she’d be written about in papers, often reminiscing on how much the medical field missed their dad but the legacy would continue with or without hari.
hari doesn’t talk to his family much, but keeps in contact with irshaan who had previously been hiding out in stardew valley. their family has all but moved out aside from the small little house that they all lived in once, before his father’s fame kicked off, when things were much simpler.
hari doesn’t really know where irshaan is right now, but he keeps in contact when he can. as for hari? he still boxes, but he damaged his hand in a bad fight and it hasn’t been the same since. he supposes that he and his dad have a few things in common now.
he decided to take up monster slaying about six months ago.
some other things:
it's giving what do you do when you never lived up to what you were meant to do
its giving eldest boy that was also a parent to his siblings but not a very good one
he's very Sad but also just kind of like 'well fuck it this might as well as happen'
still boxes, but you know its not the same, he's in pain and refuses to get the help that he needs
probably gives lessons ??? idk in boxing / self defense / how to defend yourself
does odd jobs all around town for extra cash, probably picks up a few shifts here and there where he can

─── 𝐃𝐄𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐒.
With a single sapphire eye, your gaze captures both the allure and the enigma of the unknown, and your eye patch shrouds secrets even deeper. Your words are like finely honed weapons, their edges sharp with derision and condescension, slicing through the banalities of conversation. Your communication of calculated cadence, a composition that keeps others on their toes, unsure of whether they are witnessing your true self or merely a façade. Yet, beneath this bravado and manipulation, there's a complexity that's hard to miss, a depth that hints at layers you guard with the vigilance of a sentinel.
In the presence of finer things, your heart finds solace. The glint of exquisitely crafted weapons, the warmth of dragon whiskey trickling down your throat, the sensual touch of silk against your skin—they are your retreats from the ordinary. Freedom is your creed, and the notion of confinement is abhorrent. The world isn't a place meant to be observed from a distance; it's a realm to be captained, a stage for your pursuits as a blacksmith, a collector, and a captain.
Beneath your hardened exterior lies a mission that fuels your every step—a quest for revenge against an age-old feud. In the meantime you find yourself leaping for glory of any kind. Elrich Speedwagon, you are not just a captain, nor merely a swordsman, but rather a reflection of the intricate interplay between desire and vengeance, vulnerability and strength.
─── 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐒.

Sharp and calculated, moves with the grace of a predator, every gesture deliberate and poised, often adorned in pirate clothing that speaks of adventure and defiance or blacksmith’s clothing. 5. BLOOD FOG: The sinister magic of Blood Fog marries mist with malevolence. When invoked, an ominous crimson haze blankets the surroundings. This dense fog obscures vision and infuses the air with a metallic scent. Shadows shift, whispers echo, and unease takes hold, as if the fog itself holds a malevolent consciousness. Those caught within its clutches are enveloped in an unsettling aura, feeding both dread and uncertainty.
6. BLOOD GUST: By uniting the forces of his blood magic with the power of air, Elrich conjures a devastating wind funnel of red-hued energy. This spell crashes into adversaries with tremendous force, causing both physical damage and debilitating effects.

The Baltimore Catechism
Part One: The Creed
Lesson Fourteen: The Resurrection and Life Everlasting
176. What is meant by "the resurrection of the body"?
By "the resurrection of the body" is meant that at the end of the world the bodies of all men will rise from the earth and be united again to their souls, nevermore to be separated. (I Corinthians 15:51)
177. Why will the bodies of the just rise?
The bodies of the just will rise to share forever in the glory of their souls.
178. Has the body of any human person ever been raised from the dead and taken into heaven?
By the special privilege of her Assumption, the body of the Blessed Virgin Mary, united to her immaculate soul, was glorified and taken into heaven.
179. Why will the bodies of the damned also rise?
The bodies of the damned will also rise to share in the eternal punishment of their souls.
180. What is the judgment called which will be passed on all men immediately after the general resurrection?
The judgment which will be passed on all men immediately after the general resurrection is called the general judgment. (Acts 10:42)
181. What is the judgment called which will be passed on each one of us immediately after death?
The judgment which will be passed on each one of us immediately after death is called the particular judgment. (Ecclesiasticus 11:28)
182. If everyone is judged immediately after death, why will there be a general judgment?
Although everyone is judged immediately after death, it is fitting that there be a general judgment in order that the justice, wisdom, and mercy of God may be glorified in the presence of all. (Wisdom 5:1-2)
183. What are the rewards or punishments appointed for men after the particular judgment?
The rewards or punishments appointed for men after the particular judgment are heaven, purgatory, or hell.
184. Who are punished in purgatory?
Those are punished for a time in purgatory who die in the state of grace but are guilty of venial sin, or have not fully satisfied for the temporal punishment due to their sins. (I Corinthians 3:13-15)
185. Who are punished in hell?
Those are punished in hell who die in mortal sin; they are deprived of the vision of God and suffer dreadful torments, especially that of fire, for all eternity. (Matthew 25:41)
186. Who are rewarded in heaven?
Those are rewarded in heaven who have died in the state of grace and have been purified in purgatory, if necessary, from all venial sin and all debt of temporal punishment; they see God face to face and share forever in His glory and happiness. (Matthew 25:34)
187. What is meant by the word "Amen," with which we end the Apostles' Creed?
By the word "Amen," with which we end the Apostles' Creed, is meant "So it is," or "So be it"; the word expresses our firm belief in all the doctrines that the Creed contains. (Matthew 8:10)

One of the few explicit instructions that the Lord gives his disciples is this: that we should gather as a community and remember his sacrificial love, his death on the Cross for us, which has saved us from our sins and from the terrors of eternal death. He calls us to remember him, to remember his enduring love for us, to remember that he has saved us from death. So we say during the Mass, echoing the words of St Paul: “When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord, until you come again.
Every single time we celebrate the Holy Mass we remember all this, which is why the Church requires us to come to Mass weekly or even more often because, rocked by the world and its uncertainties and so many preoccupations and troubles, we can forget this fundamental truth: that because of Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross, even death is no longer the dead end it was without Christ. Because with Christ, and believing and trusting that Jesus is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life”, then we shall, ultimately, at the very end, receive Life itself, the divine life, from God. Thus Jesus promises us in the Gospel that even though we may suffer betrayals and scorn and humiliations in this life, or even if we’re subjected to the pains of war and climate disasters and disease. As he says in the Gospel, despite all this, “not a hair of your head will be lost.”
How? Through the resurrection of the body, which we profess in the Creed every Sunday. For we believe that in Christ, all shall rise again, and God’s beloved ones – those who have kept faith with Jesus, who have hoped in Jesus, and who have loved Jesus and received his love and grace – will be raised to eternal life with Christ; to share in the glory of the Risen Lord of Life.
Again, the Holy Mass reaffirms this because at every Mass because we receive in the Mass the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ; we receive God himself in our mouths, and God gives to us a share in his holiness, his divine life; the Eucharist is this called the “seed of immortality”, the “pledge of future glory”, the promise of eternal life given to us Christians. Of course, for Holy Communion to have that sanctifying effect on us, we have to be sure we’re prepared for Holy Communion every time we come to Mass: we’re need to be properly disposed and open to God’s grace, by making sure we examine our consciences and go to confession before receiving Communion if we’ve seriously sinned. Otherwise, Holy Communion can have no positive effect on us.
And then Jesus says in the Gospel: “Your endurance will win you your lives.” So let us endure in our faith, and keep faith in Christ, especially when we’re tempted by hardship and sorrow and sadness and sickness and pain to doubt God’s goodness. Never ever forget – remember – that Christ died for you on the Cross. He suffered and died for us, so that in our sufferings and in our dying we can remember that God is with us. And if God is with us, then his love will conquer death itself, then death is not the end.
Indeed, the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that “Because of Christ, Christian death has a positive meaning: ‘For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.’ ‘The saying is sure: if we have died with him, we will also live with him.’ What is essentially new about Christian death is this: through Baptism, the Christian has already “died with Christ” sacramentally, in order to live a new life; and if we die in Christ’s grace, physical death completes this “dying with Christ” and so completes our incorporation into him in his redeeming act.” (CCC 1010)
Our prayer, therefore, on Remembrance Sunday, and at this annual parish Requiem, is that all those who have died in battle for this nation, all our beloved dead, and especially all those who have died and been buried from this church in the past year will be incorporated into Christ, will be joined with Jesus in glory, and so will be remembered  and known by God in heaven.
“Remember me at the Altar of the Lord”, St Monica told her son, St Augustine, as she lay dying. This is the request of every Christian soul: that we should remember them at the Holy Mass, and pray for them to be released from purgatory, and to be with God in heaven. This is our prayer today as we remember our dead, and we ask God to remember them, which means that we ask God to love them with his undying love in heaven.
Through the Sacrifice of the Mass, through the saving Blood of Christ that is poured out here from the Cross, and through the loving mercy of God who died for us sinners, may God have mercy on the faithful departed. As the prophet Malachi said: “For you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness will shine out with healing in its rays.” So, we now pray: “May everlasting light shine upon them, O Lord, with thy Saints in eternity, for thou art merciful. Grant them eternal rest, O Lord, and may everlasting light shine upon them.” Amen.

Master of the Templar Order
Later, in the Middle Ages, the idea of Solomon's Temple was revived again in the Knights Templars, (Note 8) who sought to introduce the Temple thinking in the West. But the Knights Templars were misunderstood at that time (e.g. trial of Jacques Molay, their Grand Master). If we wish to understand the Templars, we must look deeply into human history. What the Templars were reproached with in their trial rests entirely on a major misunderstanding. The Knights Templars said at the time: ‘Everything we have experienced so far is a preparation for what the Redeemer has wished for. For,’ they continued, ‘Christianity has a future, a new task. And we have the task of preparing the various sects of the Middle Ages, and humanity generally, for a future in which Christianity will emerge into a new clarity, as the Redeemer actually intended that it should. We saw Christianity rise in the fourth cultural epoch; it will develop further in the fifth, but only in the sixth is it to celebrate the Glory of its resurrection. We have to prepare for that. We must guide human souls in such a way that a genuine, true and pure Christianity may come to expression, in which the Name of the Most High may find its dwelling place.’
Jerusalem was to be the centre and from there the secret concerning the relationship of man to the Christ should stream out all over the world. What was represented symbolically by the temple should become a living reality. It was said of the Templars, and this was a reproach to them, that they had instituted a kind of star-worship, or, similarly, a sun- worship . However, a great mystery lies behind this. The sacrifice of the Mass was originally nothing else but a great mystery. Mass fell into two parts; the so-called Minor Mass, in which all were allowed to take part; and, when that had ended, and the main body [of the congregation] had gone away, there followed the High Mass, which was intended only for those who wished to undergo occult training, to embark on the ‘Path’. In this High Mass the reciting of the Apostolic Creed took place first; then was expounded the development of Christianity throughout the world, and how it was connected with the great march of world evolution. … Thus proceeded the High Mass, from which all the uninitiated were excluded. It was made clear to those who remained that Christianity, which began as a seed, would in the future bear something quite different as fruit, and that by the name Water Carrier was meant John [the Baptist] who scatters Christianity as a seed, as if with a grain of mustard seed. Aquarius or the Water Carrier means the same person as John who baptised with water in order to prepare mankind to receive the Christian baptism of fire. The coming of a ‘John/Aquarius’ who would first confirm the old John and announce a Christ who would renew the Temple, once the great point of time should have arrived when Christ will again speak to humanity—this was taught in the depths of the Templar Mysteries, so that the event should be understood.

ASCENSION DAY
May 9, 2024
Pastor Tom Steers
Christ the Saviour Lutheran Church, Toronto
From the time of the early Church, this day has been honoured and observed.
Just as the passion and resurrection were predicted in the Old Testament, so too was the Ascension.
The Ascension is the fulfillment of the Incarnation.
Jesus’ extraordinary visible ascent is the essential capstone of His earthly ministry.
At the beginning of the Fifth Century, Saint Augustine wrote that Ascension Day is of Apostolic origin, and that it was the universal observance of the Church long before his time.
Christ’s Ascension does not mean He has gone away and is no longer with us.
To the contrary, shortly before He ascended, Jesus said, “behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
In His time on earth, Jesus, true God and true man, did not fully use his divine powers. Thus, He limited Himself to being in one time and one place.
Now, Christ is “seated at the right hand” of God the Father. (Ephesians 1:20).
Jesus has entered into the full and continuous use of His divine attributes.
To the Christian, the Ascension holds many comforts.
Faith and hope for the future of God's kingdom rest secure in the knowledge that our Lord ascended.
He is now everywhere present while governing and protecting His Church on earth.
Here is my service and sermon for this blessed day.
Pastor Tom Steers,
Christ the Saviour Lutheran Church, Toronto
The Invocation –
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The Verses:
Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea;
hear me and answer me.
Evening, morning, and noon
I cry out in distress, and He hears my voice.
Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you;
He will never let the righteous fall.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
The Collect Prayer for Ascension Day:
Almighty God,
as Your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
ascended into the heavens,
so may we also ascend in heart and mind
and continually dwell there with Him,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.
Our Bible Readings --
First Reading – Acts 1:1–11
Psalm 47
Epistle Reading – Ephesians 1:15-23
The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 24th Chapter, verses 44–53.
“Then he said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for[a] the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.
“And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God.”
The Apostles’ Creed –
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Sermon –
Today marks a special day.
As we confess, “Jesus ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.”
Those words from the Apostles’ Creed come from knowing the account of Christ’s ascension into Heaven recorded by the Apostle Luke.
Luke told of the Ascension both in His Gospel, as well as his accompanying volume, the Acts of the Apostles.
The fulfillment of these passages, and other references in Holy Scripture, come on this day the Church holds in reverence for the sake of the ascended Lord.
The number ‘40’ is significant in the Old and New Testaments.
For 40 days and 40 nights rain fell in judgment on the earth during Noah’s time.
For 40 years God’s people wandered in the wilderness after the Exodus from Egypt, and for 40 days the twelve spies searched the Land of Canaan.
Jesus was tempted in the wilderness for 40 days. There are more examples.
But now we have a joyous reason to count!
On the fortieth day after His resurrection, Jesus ascended into Heaven, witnessed by the disciples.
Imagine being with the eleven that day.
They must have held mixed emotions.
Jesus had told them that He would be raised on the third day after His crucifixion. (Matthew 20:19)
He also told them He was going to prepare a place for them in His Father’s mansion. (John 14:2).
Now, at the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem, He leaves them.
All they could do was silently watch as He ascended into Heaven.
But Luke also tells us just how Christ left the disciples:
“Then [Jesus] led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up His hands He blessed them. While He blessed them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven.”
Did you catch that?
As Jesus left, He blessed His followers.
That blessing was delivered as Christ was received into the clouds of Heavenly glory.
So, what does that mean for you and me today?
Remember something Jesus said earlier in Luke’s Gospel: “Temptations to sin are sure to come . . . . ” (Luke 17:1).
Our world today is certainly full of temptation, and sin.
Our daily news and honest self-reflection confirm that.
Yet our Lord continues to bless us.
If there is one message, we can take away with us on Ascension Day it is this: Jesus blessed us as He ascended and continues to do so.
As Christians, we trust He will return to take us to Himself, that where He is, we may also be. (John 14:3).
We build the hope of our ascension on what Jesus has shown us in His.
He left earth, but in doing so, truly blesses His followers, those who confess His saving name.
As believers, we will triumph over the temptations of this world – through Christ.
Despite our broken nature, Christians everywhere, in all times, have the daily healing of our loving Saviour.
Ascended into Heaven, Jesus is completely unfettered by time or place.
We have the living presence of the Holy Spirit that He sent to us, and Christ’s promise that He would never leave us.
We remain connected to Him as we read and hear God’s Word in the Bible.
We pray to Him, and He hears our petitions.
We remember our baptismal identity in lives of daily repentance and promised forgiveness, while rendering faithful service to others, all the while knowing one day we too will be called from this world to eternal life in Heaven.
Then we will be blessed as Simeon was in Luke’s Gospel when he said: “Lord, now let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your Word.” (Luke 2:29).
At the beginning of Luke’s Gospel, we learn of the peace from God in Heaven which comes to us in Christ.
We not only have this peace now, but the lasting hope of Christ’s glorious return.
As the angel said to the disciples, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
Until that magnificent day there is work to do.
In our daily lives.
In our witness to Christ.
Jesus said to the disciples, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.”
By Christ’s bodily ascension into heaven in the sight of His followers, He helped them, and us, to see that His Kingdom is within us, and comes into existence through His forgiveness.
Jesus frees us from our sins and the guilt of sin.
Through His Word and His rich blessings of the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, Christ empowers us to live under Him in His Kingdom, and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness.
We are given our Lord's very body and blood in the Sacrament of the Altar.
We hear Christ's absolution spoken through the Pastor in the Divine Service.
Just before His ascension, Jesus promised, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
All in the Kingdom of God receive power to be Christian witnesses, first and foremost to our families, our friends, and to our neighbours close by and perhaps, through the internet, around the world.
The Ascension did not take Jesus away . . . it brought Heaven near.
He promised us, “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Our Saviour Jesus Christ was raised by God the Father from the dead.
He died for our sins and was raised for our justification.
Jesus ascended bodily.
He lives as the ascended Lord of all and sits glorified at the right hand of God the Father.
The ascension of Christ is a preview of the promised consummation for believers.
At the Last Day Jesus will return as He went.
It will not be a “spiritual” or metaphorical return, but an actual coming of His physical body.
No one is going to miss it.
As our Lord was raised from the dead and ascended to Heaven, so Christians will be raised by Him and brought to paradise.
Our Saviour said to the Apostle John in the Book of Revelation, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore . . . . “
Through Him may you be comforted, empowered and blessed, now and forever.
Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer –
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory
forever and ever. Amen.
The Benediction –
The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make His face shine upon you
and be gracious unto you.
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you
and give you peace.
Amen.

“I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.’
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I have a dream today.
I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification; one day right there in Alabama, little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.
I have a dream today.
I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.”

Lost Kingdom
With the gains in life when everything starts jumping out metaphorically in whimsical manner and the ratio of your demeanor to your self-motivation falls in the heavenly solstice hour below the median of your energy momentum, the laughter of your inner sinner could be heard from the shadows of high peaks glorified with the shades of gods summoning the dawn; it's the fire which burn the rowdy soul in the ashes that could cripple the strength of human gratification.
Praise the soul of demon who rose from the burnt ashes of humane injustice with the notion to eradicate the glamour of this nauseating though adolescent social trauma of nominal mandate with substantial depletion of existence in cores of lust this planet matured with. The entity which lies in the insomniac child within the human soul perjures the entirety of its existence while extracting the hypocritic being within.
How crucial could a mandate be if the legitimate ruler of a soul could rise from the ancient era of innocence. The sabotaged humble king forms an army of wild sorrows and rages the realms of chronic cuss, the demonic entity who cursed the vicious cycle of sapiens existence; and rages with the vivid glory lost in the primitive ages. The battle so loud which entitles the Gods to march the brown soils and cross the blues, the paradigm still crushes the enriched strata; the fallen souls slog in the woods while the cherished saints brings meaning to the life.
A kingdom with all the greatness, perhaps, fails. A kingdom with bona fide cultivations of interests of its population, could vaguely diminish through its currency value, however, flourishes within its core principals of perpetual destined glory.
Glaciers melt, Ice Age ends, Arctic lives. The calamitous desires of lustful sinners derive the civic theorem of nauseating cultures; the reliance of creed keeps the discretion within the lost kingdom of Unalloyed King.
