Baby Juniper
A Stand and Deliver mpreg fic by Charlotte Crema
(plot: Angel goes into labor a month early after getting into a fight at school and Mr Escalante comes to his rescue)
“SHIT!” Angel cried, clutching his belly as he leaned against the chain link fence, his face and body covered in bruises, “Fuck...come on, baby. Not now. Please. It’s too early.” He let out a yelp as another powerful contraction wracked his body. All of a sudden, he felt a gush of warm fluids trickle down between his legs and immediately his heart jumped into his throat. “Noooooo no no no fuck no please no no no not now! Fuck!” he whimpered, “C’mon baby, please…..please…..stay in there! Don’t do this to me!” As if in an act of defiance, the baby began to move down even more inside Angel, the head practically pressing against his cervix. Seconds later another contraction ripped through his body, causing Angel to let out a sob. There was no way he could turn back now. Trembling, he gripped the chain link fence and took a deep breath. “HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME!” he cried, “PLEASE! HELP ME!” “Angel?!” a voice cried, coming up behind him, “Dios mio…what happened?! Are you ok?!” He turned his head to see Mr Escalante gently rubbing his back with a hand placed firmly on his shoulder. Angel let go of the fence, turning to Mr Escalante and falling into his arms with a yelp. He was sobbing as he gripped onto his teacher, shaking terribly. “Angel, calm down. What happened?” Mr Escalante asked softly, holding tight to him. “Got…got into a fight…got beat up pretty bad…. he whimpered, “Baby coming…too early…help me...please…” Mr Escalante’s grip on Angel became more firm as his brow furrowed in concern. “C’mon. We’ll get you to the nurse’s office.” he said, helping Angel walk to the steps. “But…what if there’s not enough time to call an ambulance? I can’t give birth IN the school!” Angel said, looking at him frantically. Mr escalante sighed, biting his lip. “We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. Right now I’m more concerned about getting you help.”
Once they got up the steps and inside the school Angel was in enough pain that it was hard for him to walk even with Mr Escalante helping him. Every ten minutes he’d have to stop and bury his face in Mr Escalante’s shoulder so he could scream through another contraction. He was trembling so bad, SO BAD, he could barely stay standing. “You ok?” Mr Escalante asked as Angel gripped onto him, panting as another contraction subsided, “Need me to carry you?” Angel shook his head. “I...I couldn’t ask you to do that.” he replied, “You’ve already had one heart attack so far. Don’t need you having another one.” Mr Escalante sighed and gave him a look. “Very funny, Guzman.” he said, “Listen. I appreciate that you’re worried about me, but right now I’m more worried about the fact that you’re about to have a baby and need to get to a hospital.” Angel bit his lip and nodded. “Ok. Ok. Fair enough.” he said softly. All of a sudden, another contraction hit him that made his knees buckle as he gripped onto Mr Escalante harder than he had been and let out a blood curdling howl of pain. Without another word, Mr Escalante lifted Angel into his arms and ran to the nurse’s office, praying they still had time on their side.
The nurse certainly got quite a shock when she saw Mr Escalante rushing into her office with a badly bruised student in his arms. It was even more of a shock when she saw the student clutching his belly and the blood and water that soaked his pants. “What on earth happened?!” she cried, “Is he alright?!” “He got into a serious fight and the injuries were bad enough to trigger his labor.” Mr Escalante replied, “I don’t know how much time we have but I have a bad feeling that it won’t be enough time to call an ambulance. Has there ever been a baby delivered at this school before?” Angel’s eyes widened with fear as he looked up at Mr Escalante. “Please tell me you’re joking! I can’t have the baby here! Please! There’s gotta be another option!” he cried, “I can’t have it here! Please! You gotta take me to a hospital!” The nurse thought for a moment. “The only time we’ve ever had a baby delivered in this school was five years ago because the student was doing her damndest to hide the pregnancy up until the last minute.” she said, “But I think it’d be best to see just how far gone your friend here is before we make any decisions.” Angel felt his heart pounding like a jackhammer. “Nooooo nononono you are NOT doing that here! Nuh-uh! You’re fucking crazy!” “Afraid we’ll have to, dear.” the nurse said, “It’s the only way we can determine whether you’re having the baby here or at a hospital.” “OH I’M HAVING IT AT THE HOSPITAL!” Angel shouted, “I DON’T CARE IF IT MEANS I GIVE BIRTH IN THE AMBULANCE! I AM NOT HAVING IT HERE!” He tries to struggle out of Mr Escalante’s arms only to be stopped by a fierce contraction that made him shriek at the top of his lungs before going limp as the contraction passed. “You were saying?” the nurse said as Angel whimpered, burying his face in Mr Escalante’s chest. “Fine. You can examine me.” he squeaked, “I don’t give a fuck. I just want my baby to be ok.” They helped Angel onto the bed they usually reserved for very sick students and helped him take his pants and underwear off. He was pretty reluctant to let the nurse slip her finger inside him and feel just how dilated his cervix was, but the fact that Mr Escalante was by his side and holding his hand helped. Angel was beginning to feel a whole new level of respect for this man. “Nine centimeters.” the nurse said, disposing of the exam gloves, “Young ones like you usually have quick births.” “The fuck is that supposed to mean?!” Angel whined. “It means you’re most likely going to have the baby here which I know you don’t want to do.” Mr Escalante said. Angel let out a whine, pouting slightly.
An hour and a half and another cervical exam later Angel was starting to get really scared. He was already at ten centimeters which he knew meant there was no way he was getting to a hospital now. He gripped tightly to Mr Escalante’s hand, shaking terribly as he prayed that nothing bad happened to the baby. “You ready to start pushing, dear?” the nurse asked, grabbing some towels from the linen closet and donning a pair of exam gloves. “I kinda have no choice in the matter, do I?” Angel replied, trying to sound cocky. He flinched and let out a whimper as another contraction began to creep up on him. “Enough sass now.” the nurse said, “On the count of three, I want you to push with all your might, got it?” Angel nodded, biting his lip. “One...two...three.” Angel took a deep breath and bore down with all his might, screaming in agony as the baby’s head slowly stretched open his cervix. He could actually feel his eyes beginning to fill with tears the pain was so immense. The main thing keeping him grounded in the haze of pain was Mr Escalante who was whispering encouraging words in his ear and brushing his hair back from his face. He stopped for a moment to catch his breath, but began to freak out when he felt the head slipping back in. “Nooooo no no no what’s happening?! Why is it going back in?!” he cried, gripping to Mr Escalante’s hand, eyes wide with panic. “It’s ok, Angel. It’s supposed to do that.” Mr Escalante replied softly. “HOW THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW?!” Angel shouted. Mr Escalante sighed and gently brushed a strand of hair back from Angel’s face. “I’ve read enough medical books in my lifetime to know a few things.” he replied. “I don’t wanna know.” Angel muttered, groaning. “The head slipped back in so it can get a good head start when you start pushing again.” the nurse said, “It should probably keep coming out afterwards. It shouldn’t go back in.” “I just want this baby oooouuuuut! I need to make  sure it’s ok!” Angel cried, whimpering. “Alright then, push!” the nurse said. Angel bore down, whimpering as he bit his lip. Tears were now freely running down his face as he felt the head beginning to sloooooowly emerge. “That’s it, dear! Keep going!” the nurse cried, smiling, “You’re doing great!” Angel continued to push with all his might, trying his best not to scream as he gripped Mr Escalante’s hand for dear life. It only took a few good pushes until the baby’s head came out with a pop, making Angel gasp as his head fell back on the pillows. “Alright dear, the hard part is pretty much over.” the nurse said, “I want you to keep breathing for just a bit while I check the baby’s neck for the cord.” Angel nodded, letting out a whimper. “You’re doing great, Angel.” Mr Escalante said, giving Angel’s hand a gentle squeeze.
Pushing out the shoulders was complete agony. They were pretty broad despite the fact the baby was premature. Angel was half tempted to ask the nurse to reach in there and pull the baby out but he didn’t know if that would hurt the baby or not. “You’re doing really well, Angel. Don’t give up now.” Mr Escalante said, gently brushing back some hair from Angel’s face. “I dunno if I have the energy anymore.” Angel said, “I’m sorry.” Mr Escalante’s brow furrowed when he heard Angel apologize. “Don’t talk like that. You DO have the energy.” he said, gently squeezing Angel’s hand, “And if need be, take as much as you need of mine.” Angel nodded, whimpering. “Alright, dear. We’re almost at the home stretch.” the nurse said, “I just need one more gargantuan push from you, alright?” Angel again nodded in response. “Whenever you’re ready, dear.” Angel bit his lip and took a deep breath before bearing down with all his might, letting out an earsplitting shriek that made the nurse jump. “Attaboy, Guzman! You got this!” Mr Escalante cried, giving Angel’s and a squeeze, “You’re doing great!” Angel kept pushing, gripping Mr Escalante’s hand hard enough he swore he heard bones cracking. As soon as the baby’s body slipped out, Angel fell back on the pillows, passing out from exhaustion.
Angel was only out for a minute or so when he was revived by the sound of a baby crying. “Oh god!” he cried, bolting up in the bed in the nurse’s office, “The baby! Is...is it ok? Is it hurt at all?” Mr Escalante smiled and shook his head. “Your little girl is just fine, Angel.” he said, “Ten fingers, ten toes, and a good set of lungs.” Angel was thunderstruck. The baby really was ok? Even though she was a month early? Wait…. “It...it’s a girl?” he asked, “I have a girl?” “You sure do!” the nurse said, smiling, “She’s the cutest little thing I’ve ever seen! I think she wants to meet you, though.” Angel sat up a bit more in bed and held his arms out. “Please?” he asked softly. The nurse smiled, handing the tiny baby to Angel. Instantly, the wailing newborn began to calm down as Angel cradled her close to his chest. “It’s ok, sweetheart. It’s ok.” he murmured softly, “Daddy’s here. It’s ok, baby girl.” “Have you thought of a name for her?” the nurse asked, clamping the cord and cutting it. Angel blushed and bit his lip. “I...I was thinking I’d call her Andreas if she was a boy…but...maybe Juniper?” “Juniper?” Mr Escalante asked, a look of confusion on his face, “What made you think of that name?” “My friend Clavel.” Angel replied, “She insisted I name the baby Juniper no matter what gender it was.” Mr Escalante smiled. “I think your friend may have made a great choice for the baby’s name.” he said, chuckling. Angel smiled. “Yeah.” he said, nuzzling his daughter close to him and placing a kiss on the top of her head, “I think so too.”
