Comics Read 02/06-20/2023
I have finally gotten to the reading more comics, and it is continuation of a series I started years ago. This time it’s Money Shot volume 3, written by Tim Seeley and Sara Beattie, drawing by Caroline Leigh Layne, colored by Kurt Michael Russell, with letters by Crank! I remember enjoying it a lot when I read it about one and a half years ago. But I also forgot much of what I read in the first two volumes. This included everyone’s name, most of the non XXX-Explorer characters. But i did remember the basic premise, scientists engage in porn with alien species to fund their studies in an otherwise messed up world. The first two arcs were about the XXX-Explorers adventures on other planets where they couldn’t help get into the political and ecological messes over there. This one is mostly on Earth, and about they ways that having sex with professional partners messes up the professional dynamics. Surprisingly also involves a world visited in some trade paperback back matter that was originally published in Playboy.
If Money Shot wasn’t so silly it would be so depressing, and it knows this. I appreciate it take on how the world is overwhelmingly fucked up and people being more willing to invest in porn than the sciences, is a symptom of that, and in someways complicates it more.
The art is great. I know that going forward there will be a different artist, but I just want to thank Layne on her distinct character and creature designs, fun facial expressions and playful sense of action. Also Russell for coloring this to the goofy but legible tone.
