Questions regarding the selection:
1.Does Craigie Zildjian appear to be a Theory X or a Theory Y manager? Explain.
Based on the selection, I can strongly say that Craigie is a Theory Y manager. As to  her answer on the question: What's the secret of keeping a centuries-old business on the cutting edge? "We're guided by our core values- a focus on continuous quality improvement, innovation, craftsmanship, customer collaboration, empowering employees, avoiding complacency, and reinvesting in the company."
From the core values that she stated is a great evidence of her as a manager under Theory Y. I can feel it in her statement that her employees are not having that much trouble or stress when it comes to work. I can see it that her employees view work as a natural activity, where they enhance their imagination, ingenuity and creativity to promote satisfying work. As a manager of Theory Y, it is such opportunity for you to build better relations with your people! Won't it be more fun and comfortable working with people whom you know you can count on? I can also say that Craigie is a very good manager, for she motivates and empower her employees. As to which, Mary Parker Follet had said that managers should be motivating their people's performance rather than simply demanding it. In this case, you've had a job very well done, Craigie! :D
2. Is Zildjian Company a closed or an open system? How can you tell?
It was a bit hard for me to recognize if Zildjian Company is a closed or an open system because our book based on the environment to tell whether a company is a closed or an open system. At first I said that it is an open system, for it won't last for four centuries if it doesn't cope up with the changes in the environment. Though I also thought, it may be a closed system because the company runs through the family and it has very little interactions with the outside environment. It really took me some time and deep concentration to identify my final thought of the company being an open or a closed system. However, I finally made up my mind and I say it's an OPEN SYSTEM. It's definitely [having 0.01 doubts] an open system because the company is not set for authority. It's very tied up and connected to their employees and customers. They always collaborate with their customers on products, that's one. They take employees into stores so they can see customers buying Zildjians and the competition, that's two. And the third and my final evidence of Zildjian company as an open system, they said that careful listening is part of their corporate strategy. That's a strong key to prove interactions within and outside the company. - [a/n] For those who are wondering, this post is for an academic purpose [it's my assignment, okay? XD] I also recently posted something about management too. If you liked the concepts and discussion, just let me know :3 -Kei
