I decided to change things up and play a dude in the Outer Worlds.

Pablo Ortiz, born in Acapulco, Mexico. His biggest dream in life was educating and entertaining children with his edutainment programs. As the character Professor Possible! (the exclamation point is mandatory), he would guide kids through high-production value adventures that taught science, history, and good screenwriting via his well written sketches in between the science bits.

Unfortunately, just after filming the pilot episode of Professor Possible!, aspiring video archaeologists uncovered a stash of VHS tapes that contained the collected works of the cult classic children’s 1990s edutainment show Beakman’s World.

Cult classic being the operative words. For in the centuries since Beakman’s World was cancelled, the popularity of the show grew in the shadows. Rumors and legends became a full-bore secret religion. Members have infiltrated all forms of government around the world, snuffing out all other forms of children’s edutainment media, keeping Earth’s vidscreens and mass media clear of anything that might threaten the holy return of Beakman. (ever wonder why Bill Nye’s show came to an end?)

Pablo’s dreams where shattered when he learned that the media company that produced his show had been approached by this cult, and cancelled Professor Possible! shortly after production began. No warning, no compensation given. He was out of a job within the day.

Angered, betrayed, and fearful for his life as an edutainer, Pablo tried to briefly fight this shady cult of Beakman, only to have his social credit ruined, his bank account drained, and his house seized by yet more members of this horrible organization. Driven to alcoholism and drug use, he soon realized the folly of opposing this powerful opponent.

So he took a gamble. A short term of service on a colony, and then a fresh start among the stars. Perhaps on a new world, he would be free to educate, entertain, and inspire. Perhaps not children, but whatever weird companions come his way.

I'm a bit of a shadow on social media these days, but I must splurge here for a moment. There is nothing in this world nor life, or very little, that brings me any satisfaction, emotion, or joy, except this band. And that is not an understatement or a reach. Today is the birthday of Vaxis II: A Window of the Waking Mind. It's also the band's most ambitious album I'd say. Not only does it have their signature kickass rock songs, but this album also shows them branching out and experimenting with a pop sound adding synthesizers and fresh beats to a couple of the tracks that have a harkening vibe of an 80s inspiration. But don't misunderstand it as sounding commercial, these beats are dark and mysterious. I got a Nine Inch Nails vibe from one of the beats in one of the songs, for example. They originally took me by surprise because it's not usually what you expect from them, but considering Claudio's side project being The Prize Fighter Inferno, a "folktronic" type of genre, it makes sense for him. What confounds me is Coheed's novel ability to piece an album that has hard-boiled rock songs full of crunchy distortion, and then a synthy song that you can somewhat dance to and make it somehow work and sound cohesive is just a testament to how amazing they are. I'll say this, Ladders of Supremacy is the COOLEST FUCKING SONG EVER MADE! oH MY GOD... The ending title track (Window of the Waking Mind) is possibly the greatest ending song to any album ever in history. And that's really hard to say since how much I'm obsessed with 'The Final Cut' from their third album. But WOTWM might just barely beat Final Cut. Amazing. That goddamn song made me cry. The addition of orchestra is a blissful cherry on top that I didn't know I needed, yet fits so perfectly with the band. Claudio's singing is gorgeous, Josh is a fucking BEAST on drums, and Zach and Travis kill it! Best drumming you'll hear in a long while! Greatest band ever.

FAQ under cut:

Q: Why did you put in x character and not y character? Aren't there more hateable characters from that franchise?

A: I wanted to keep the competition light-hearted, funny, and interesting. I intentionally avoided most shitty parent characters, dictators, characters who were meant to be hated, etc., as well as characters heavily associated with bigotry and sexual assault, and gravitated towards characters that were more divisive in fandom. Exceptions were only made for characters I am familiar enough with and can use my own judgement for. Using Zenos as an example: He is a villain who is very evil and meant to be hated, which I mostly avoided when taking suggestions for things I wasn't familiar with myself. However, he's very divisive between people who think he's a good interesting villain, people who don't think he's a good villain and don't like him in the story at all, and people who want him carnally. Walter White is also meant to be hated, but he has a meme status, and as a villain protagonist I think he's more interesting than most "meant to be hated" characters. Also, there are certain franchises that I simply didn't want to include. If JK Rowling wasn't such a real and horrible political presence, owing all her influence to Harry Potter, I would've definitely put Snape on the poll. As it stands, I don't really want to give HP any attention. TL;DR answer: Because it's funnier that way

Q: But I LIKE that character :(

A: As mentioned before, I specifically gravitated more towards characters who are more divisive rather than universally hated. They are usually more interesting, and there is more variety with those types of characters - you don't have shitty dad character #1 vs. shitty dad character #2. I actually looked for "anti-(character)" tags and discourse about that character when making decisions about who to include. lol If you actually like some of these characters (uh, my condolences), vote against them in their respective matchups.

Q: Is it too late to suggest a replacement?

A: Yes.

Q: Why are you doing this?

A: I feed off of hatred and violence. I want to see who tumblr users REALLY hate.

Q: Why Pearl?

A: It was quite a while ago now so I get it if people don't remember, but Pearl discourse used to be a big thing and people argued that she was irredeemable for many of the things she did early on in the show. If you remember the "Pearl hates the Irish" meme, that was a parody of how much people hated her

Q: Why Hooty?

A: I haven't seen the Owl House but I'm told many people think he's annoying. Also he's voiced by Alex Hirsch and fuck that guy he did my boy Ford so dirty I'm still mad about this

Q: Why Starlight Glimmer?

A: MLP:FiM is another show I didn't really watch but she was a villain who got redeemed and became a main character and a lot of people think her redemption arc was rushed and botched and she actually made a lot of people quit watching the show. One of my close friends really really really hates her and I don't think that's an isolated incident

Q: Why Berdly?

A: Annoying. Personally I think his arc of becoming less annoying was pretty fun but a lot of people still hate him.

Q: Why Bakugo (instead of Mineta)?

A: I actually debated this a lot and held a preliminary poll which Mineta actually won. But then I decided democracy is dead because Mineta really wouldn't be as interesting as Bakugo in this tournament because he's basically universally hated. Bakugo is more interesting because people who hate him REALLY hate him, while people who love him REALLY love him. Kind of like Vriska. I think. I never read Homestuck and I don't plan on ever doing so.

Q: Why Tony Stark?

A: He's a heavily divisive character because he's a war profiteer billionaire with a superiority complex, but the narrative treats him as a morally pure hero. Also, he's MCU Spider-Man's mentor and most of MCU Spider-Man is basically defined by Tony Stark and he's not allowed to be his own character. There's a bunch of other stuff but I didn't watch and I don't care about most of the MCU. Personally I'm a really big Spider-Man fan and I despise him for what he did to Peter Parker but I shall refrain from making this a long rant.

Q: Why did you include characters that you're not familiar with?

A: I didn't want to exclusively have characters from my interests. I wanted a bit of variety. Before the poll started, I accepted submissions for candidates, and basically trusted submitters to send in decent characters. Some of the characters I ended up with may go against the vague guidelines I set for myself, which kind of sucks, but that's how it is now.

Q: This bracket sucks.

A: Make your own tournament then. I'm just some guy making a tournament on tumblr dot com for free. Don't take it too seriously.

GOVERNMENT OF IRAQ MOVES TO END U.S. OCCUPATION PRESENCE

The Iraqi government will move to end the presence of the U.S.-led coalition occupation in Iraq, according to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani.

Al-Sudani made the comments at a joint press conference with the visiting Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez on Thursday, Dec. 28th.

Al-Sudani said the topic was broached during his meeting with Sanchez, during which they discussed the details of the presence of the international coalition in Iraq.

"We appreciate the role of the coalition in supporting Iraq's efforts to confront the Islamic State militants," Al-Sudani said.

"The Iraqi government is in the process of rearranging the relationship with the international coalition in light of the presence of capable Iraqi forces," said the Iraqi prime minister, stressing that "the Iraqi government is moving toward ending the presence of the international coalition forces, which include security advisers who support the security forces in the areas of training, advice, and intelligence cooperation."

The two leaders discussed in depth the difficult situation in the Middle East, including the ongoing Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Al-Sudani said he appreciated Spain's role and its "courageous stance in condemning these attacks."

Sanchez, for his own part, expressed his country's desire to develop relations with Iraq, in particular the fields of transportation, education, climate change, and defense.

The Spanish Prime Minister also met with the Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, and the need to end the genocide in Gaza.

Spain is part of the U.S.-led international coalition tasked with training and advising Iraq's Security Forces in its fight against the radical islamic group, ISIS.

Author’s Note - I have a few things I need to quickly cover. Firstly, I want to thank everyone for their patience. I am sure I am not the only one to notice my writing’s recent absence. Life has been kind of crazy lately and I appreciate your continued cooperation with me. Secondly, I recommend listening to “Until I Found You” by Stephen Sanchez while reading for full effect :) Finally, I want to thank my Argo III buddies (yes, I know some of you are here…) for getting me pumped up. Without you, this fic would not be here for everyone now! With no further ado, please enjoy!

A soft but repetitive knock on the door woke Y/N. Thank the gods their siblings were all away for the winter or they would have had a full-blown mutiny on their hands. Grasping around their nightstand for their alarm clock, it took them a moment to recover the elusive item. When discovered, it assaulted their eyeballs with a vengeful glare of light. Guess it didn't want to be disturbed, either. Huh, Y/N thought, join the club.

3:28 in the morning. Yeah, they weren't too pleased about that.

Throwing the warm, tight covers off of themselves, fully prepared to spar with whoever decided to interfere with the delicate work of Hypnos, Y/N whipped open the door. Immediately, all their anger washed off them in a tsunami wave.

There was their boyfriend, Leo Valdez. Shaking like a leaf in the slight draft allowed through the magical barrier of Camp Half-Blood. Overall, not their favorite sight.

"Oh, my Gods!" Y/N exclaimed, grabbing the frozen boy by the shoulder and pulling him in.

"I was outside the door," was all he managed to mumble.

"Yeah, I could see that," All humor disappeared from Y/N's face at the look on Leo's.

"What's wrong?" They were suddenly on guard.

"I- Um, I..." Leo trailed off as a violent shudder racked over him.

"Oh, Gods, c'mere!" Within seconds, Leo was sat cross-legged on his partner's bed, wrapped up burrito-style in the fluffiest blanket Y/N could steal off one of their half-sibling's beds. Y/N sat in front of him.

Immediately, he collapsed into their arms.

"I had a nightmare," he sniffled. "I couldn't figure out where to go."

Y/N placed a solid kiss on his forehead before responding.

"You know you can come here right away," they pouted dotingly.

"I... couldn't," he struggled out. "It was about you."

"What..." Y/N took a deep breath to compose themself. "What did I do?"

"Not what you did... what was done to you," Leo emphasized.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Y/N cooed.

"No..." Leo moved for the first time in minutes, shaking his head vigorously.

Y/N shushed him to calm down, rubbing their hands up and down his arms comfortingly.

"Please, can you just... sing to me?" Leo requested, voice dipping to an all-time low.

Y/N agreed eagerly. As they helped arrange for Leo to lie against their pillow, they admired him. Even in his weakened state, he trusted them. They knew his past. They knew that having his trust was no laughing matter. He knew they intended to honor it.

Leo snuggled close to their warmth. He nuzzled his face into the crook of their neck and allowed them to wrap their arms around his waist.

They could feel Leo's breath slow as they began, their whispered tone making the intimate scene feel like home. At least, that's how Leo felt.

"Leo," Y/N hummed. "Wrap me up in all your-"

"I want you in my arms," Leo added.

"Oh, let me hold you."

That is exactly what they did.

I'll never let you go again...
