I've been a fan of the Xeno series of games since Xenosaga on the PS2. I first thought about cosplaying Pyra when I played Xenoblade 2 in 2018, but it seemed like such an ambitious idea at the time that I decided against it. However, once she joined Smash Bros., my affection for her grew a lot, as did people's awareness of the character. That was enough to push me to give it a try. It ended up being the most elaborate costume I've ever made, but I'm very happy that I decided to do it. This costume's a lot different from anything that I've made or worn before, and it felt nice to branch out.

The sword was the first part of the costume that I constructed. The Aegis Sword's design is pretty complex, and it was a lot of fun just planning out what all of the parts were and how I wanted to size everything. I've historically painted most of the props that I've made, but in this case I instead decorated its exterior using the same materials that I had for the outfit so that everything would match.

The light, pink-red fabric is scuba knit, and the scale-pattern red fabric is spandex knit. The primary red fabric is foil lame knit, with the shiny side used for the sword and the matte wrong side used for the outfit (I initially intended to make the whole thing using the shiny side, but decided that it was too garish). The gold parts are faux patent leather, and the black parts are made up of several different fabrics that I had bits of left over from other projects. Most notably, all of the emerald parts are reflective vinyl, which glows very brightly in direct light, and looks especially nice in the light of a camera's flash. A lot of pieces of the outfit have bits of foam in them to add stability and thickness, and the upper belt has wire in it to maintain its shape.

The wig is an Arda Ferrari in Apple Red with some added wefts in the bangs. Styling this wig was my first time teasing hair, and I think it went alright. The tiara is glued directly to the wig. I made the earrings simply by getting some cheap star-shaped earrings and covering them with reflective vinyl.
