Brotherly Love Pier Giacomo Castiglioni - nicknamed “Popo” - was a prominent Italian architect and a pioneer of Italian design. According to Dino Gavina, he was one of the ten best designers in the world. The Italian architect and designer brothers Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) and Pier Giacomo (1913-1968) became ‘Studio Castiglioni’ in 1938. Their father was the notable Italian architect Giannino Castiglioni. Their brother Livio Castiglioni became an architect and designer. Achille and Pier Giacomo both studied architecture at the ‘Politecnico di Milano’ and later worked there as teachers. Their collaboration was productive and innovative - the designs were often radical and humorous. Some of their best-known works include the ‘Mezzadro’ chair featuring a tractor seat, and many lighting designs for ‘Flos’ including the ‘Snoopy’ table lamp and the floor lamp ‘Toio’ that is lit by a car headlight. Il 25 maggio 2021 è stato inaugurato l' Adi Design Museum - Compasso d'oro, il nuovo museo di Milano che svela ai visitatori gli oggetti protagonisti del prestigioso premio Compasso d'oro dal 1954 ad oggi.

Sono 2.400 gli oggetti in mostra, che vanno dalla Ferrari a una Fiat Zagato, passando per oggetti iconici come lampade, divani, ma anche progetti e bozzetti.

Costruito in un ex deposito di tram, ospita attualmente cinque mostre permanenti e tre temporanee. Inoltre, il museo dispone di una biglietteria completamente contactless.

What brings us joy in the archives? These vintage color images of the Heller rainbow stacking dinnerware! Those colors! Those concentric circles! Bon appetit!

We have many photographs of Vignelli-designed products in the archives. Often we find the original shots for catalogs, publications, and other marketing purposes. But we haven’t seen these images used in any of the promotional materials! 

This stacking melamine dinnerware was originally designed in Italy in 1964 and won the Compasso D’oro award. But the manufacturer went out of business and the molds lay dormant for a few years. But Heller brought them to the United States and they eventually created them in rainbow colors. 

“The size of the plates, their edge wall concept, their stackability, and the brilliant rainbow colors quickly captured the consumers’ attention and the product became a symbol of contemporary houseware.” design: Vignelli (1981).

Disegnata da Achille e Pier Giacomo Castiglioni più di cinque decenni fa, la lampada da terra Luminator stupisce per la sua incredibile modernità. E ancora di più ora, nelle nuovissime tonalità.

Un complemento d’arredo senza tempo, stilisticamente ricercato, che ha vinto nel 1955 il prestigioso premio internazionale il Compasso d’Oro per il suo design originale.

Luminator é una lampada da terra a luce indiretta, la cui fonte luminosa è rappresentata da una lampadina con riflettore. Alta 190 cm, si compone di uno stelo in ferro smaltato e supportato da tre gambe in metallo zincato.

Una lampada dalle linee semplici ed essenziali, in grado di dare eleganza agli ambienti e renderli di tendenza e sempre attuali.

La Casa comincia dalla Luce.
