I wrote this between classes, so it's a bit rushed and probably is full of mistakes, but it's sad, so i want to share it already ^^

The first day of the end wasn’t any different than any other day before it. Dream woke up, went downstairs and had a small breakfast. He couldn’t force himselfeat much lately. Told himself his lack of appetite was good, that it would help with the future parts of his plan. Ignored the concerned looks Punz send him when he refused a break or a commonmeal.

He was fine. It was all fine.

Punz was worrying too much, as always. The mercenary has been that way, eversince Dream met him, many years ago. Always worrying, always trying to catch him in a lie about his well-being.

He used to like the extra attention, used to search for the older blond, when he got hurt more often than finding Bad or Sam. They worried about him as well, of course, but they were busier. Always working, trying to earn enough to keep their family together, to keep their (then) small server running. It was funny to think about Munchy as a small server. Their home turned into one of the biggest public servers, giving up the first place only to Hypixel.

He wondered if his own server would be as big one day. Sure, it was one of the bigger private servers, known among the public for it’s strict whitelist and mysterious admin. But it wasn’t the size of the public servers he grew up on. Dream sometimes missed the busyness of the public servers. Missed running through the crowds of MCPvP, chasing after Sapnap and practising for the tournaments.

Those days were long gone now. His friends were gone, his family was gone. He just had Punz and Ranboo. Well, he had Punz. Ranboo, or Enderboo, was still a wild card. He didn’t know when the other side would start working against him (because nothing ever was easy for him). He had to be prepared for the worst.

But it was fine. He had a plan. He would see his family again, he would convince them to be a family again. Even if it was the last thing he would ever do.

He took it day by day, step by step. Ate less, trained more. Slept less, thought more, planned more. He needed to be ready, to be sure of the plan. There would be no second chances, not this time.

His last days of freedom were spent in a closed room, standing over maps and plans. Making sure everyone knew their roles. Making sure Punz could act, could convince the others that they were on their side. He wanted to run, wanted to go out and feel the wind on his bare face, swim with the dolphins and run around with the wolves. He squashed those feelings as quickly as they emerged. He wasn’t the important one here. He could live through some days, maybe even weeks, in isolation. And it’s not like he would be in there the whole time! The courtyard was a nice place, he made sure of that. It was secure, but still gave the feeling of being outside. It was enough. It had to be enough.

He clenched his fist. It was late again. Punz left some time ago to sleep, with Ranboo leaving much earlier. The nearby clock chimed a quiet tune. Midnight. He should go to bed, rest before the final act that would take place in a few hours. But he didn’t feel tired. In fact, he was more awake then ever, more aware of his bond with the server. He looked out the window. Maybe… maybe a small walk wouldn’t hurt.

He stretched and left through the door.

His server was peaceful. Content and happy. It didn’t share his worry nor his nerves. Wasn’t aware of what would happen when the sun woke up. He looked up at the stars. They wouldn’t stop shining just because he would be gone. The trees and the animals would live on. The crops would grow and be taken care of.

He wandered around a bit, trying to force himself to remember as many parts of his home as possible. Looked at the lake where the Community House was (He did it. Destroyed it. It was worth it. Was it?), at the crater that used to be L’Manburg. Almost went into Alyssa’s house before stopping himself on the front porch. Alyssa never liked surprise guests. He silently put a few barrier blocks around the building. She deserved her home to wait for her just like she left it.

He found himself under Ponk’s lemon tree. One of the first trees on the server. There, on it’s trunk, were carved initials of his family. S for Sapnap, G for George, A for Alyssa, C for Callahan, P for Ponk, B for Bad, another S for Sam and a small D, accompanied by a wonky smile for himself. He ran his hand over the carvings with a small smile. ‘I’m doing this for you. Even if you all will hate me after today. Even if you already hate me. I love you all.’.

And if anyone was watching the lone figure by the tree that night, they might have noticed a small tear running under their mask. Might have seen the figure place a note in a small hole in the trunk. Might have heard them whisper a last goodbye.
