COLOR CURATION: Are sterile white walls without architectural manifestation the most beautiful way to display and enjoy the abstract color field works of Frank Stella? That is the traditional way to display contemporary art. But this week at the Minneapolis Institute of Art I was blown away encountering Takt-I-Sulaymaniyah Variation II in a side rotunda accompanied by a classical marble fountain, a coffered ceiling, and elaborate columns. The whole spectrum of art history is evoked, and the potential for a future looms as a great possibility. The bright colors almost jump off the canvas and create a life of their own.
