News Note: A Bill Has Been Introduced in the Illinois Legislature Limiting Women's Hats to a Diameter of Eighteen Inches
Record Group 46: Records of the U.S. SenateSeries: Berryman Political Cartoon Collection
This illustration entitled, "News Note: A Bill Has Been Introduced in the Illinois Legislature Limiting Women's Hats to a Diameter of Eighteen Inches", by cartoonist Clifford Berryman, which appeared in the Washington Evening Star on April 24, 1909, depicts the serious nature of issues caused by women wearing large hats, especially for men sitting behind them at sporting events.
Two women with enormous hats sit in the front row of a sporting event.  One is holding a scorecard and pencil.  The men behind them are maneuvering to see around them.  A man further back is standing up calling to a policeman, “Officer, do your duty!”  The man wears a sport coat, tie, starched collar, and a straw hat.  The other men in the stands are similarly dressed.  The police officer is standing amid the crowded stands.  His helmet says, “Hat Cop.”  He holds an 18 inch ruler and measuring tape.

All I Want for Christmas is Peace, Some Christmas Gifts,

I’m probably not gonna tag this with anything so those who see it get to see it I guess, but uh… I’m probably gonna step away from Tumblr for a day or two? It feels weird posting my bullshit about my little OC’s rn in this exact moment, but also I didn’t want my most recent post to be the last post I have before I dip out for a few days, cause that’s not the vibe I want my online presence to have, so uh… what’s a history fact I can share-
Did you know that the term “Teddy Bear” was originally a political statement? “Teddy’s Bear” was a reference to a tied and wounded black bear that US President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot because it was “unsportsmanlike”, and the term (written with a nickname he notoriously hated) was intended to be satirizing his decision in the media by a political cartoonist of the time. It just so happened that a man who made stuffed animals (or maybe his wife did? I can’t remember) saw the newspaper comic and decided to dedicate one of their plush toys to the President, and his stance against hunting the trapped bear. After naming it “Teddy’s Bear”, that was the name that became associated with the common design of stuffed bear toy! I think someone made something similar in Germany at the same time but the name never stuck. But yeah that’s a cute little history story which I’m pretty sure is mostly historically accurate. There’s records and stuff I think, I just am not in the headspace to find them-
Anyway I hope you all enjoyed this little history fact for the meantime, I’ll be back to tumblr sooner or later :D
(edit: I did research cause I’m a nerd and can’t help myself. I found the cartoon, it’s was made by Clifford Berryman in 1902, and the stuffed toy was made by Morris and Rose Mitchtom, Russian-Jewish immigrants who lived and worked out of Brooklyn in the early 20th century)

National Teddy Bear Day
The teddy bear is one of the most popular toys for children, and holds a special place in many adults hearts, too. This lovable stuffed animal has a day all of its own, Teddy Bear Day. It gives a chance for people to get teddy out of the cupboard and make him the center of attention.
It’s an ideal time to get together with others for a teddy bear’s favorite activity, having a picnic, as immortalized in the classic song, ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic.’ This was written in 1907, shortly after teddy bears were first manufactured in Europe and America. The American toy bears were named Teddy, in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, who had refused to shoot a small captured bear on a hunting trip. Many teddy bears have become famous over the years, including Paddington Bear, Rupert Bear, Pudsey Bear and, of course, Winnie the Pooh.
Learn about Teddy Bear Day
In a world where everyone seems to be larger and louder than yourself, it is very comforting to have a small, quiet companion
Teddy Bear Day has been created so that we have a specific date whereby we can pay tribute to one of our favorite childhood toys. Most people reading this will have fond memories of playing with a teddy bear when we were younger. In fact, some of you reading this may even have your favorite childhood teddy bear today. It may be tattered and even missing an eye or some stuffing, but it will be the most precious teddy bear in the world to you!
On this date, we pay tribute to this amazing childhood toy, which has stood the test of time. It does not matter what new crazes or toys come onto the market, they will never surpass the global popularity that the teddy bear has attained. With every decade that passes by, we still see children clutching onto their teddy bears, and it is a beautiful sight to behold.
This is because our teddy bear is usually the first friend that we have. It is the first ‘person’ that we share all of our thoughts and experiences with. We even cuddle our teddy bear when we go to sleep at night because it provides us with comfort. It is only right that we take a day to reflect on just how amazing teddy bears are, right?
History of Teddy Bear Day
It’s too bad we’re not all teddy bears. More stuffing would only make us cuter and cuddlier.
To understand the history of Teddy Bear Day, we need to roll back the clock to something that happened more than 100 years ago. In 1902, Theodore Rossevelt was the President of the United States. During this year, he refused to shoot a bear cub while he was in Mississippi hunting. The incident spread around the country via the national news. There was even a cartoon of the event that was published in the Washington Post by Clifford Berryman on the 16th of November in 1902. It became a classic right away.
Morris Michtom, a store owner in New York, was inspired by the cartoon and he decided to create a new toy. He then sent a letter to the President, asking Mr. Roosevelt if it would be possible for the new toy to be called “Teddy Bear.” The rest, as they say, was history.
Since then, there have been a lot of famous teddy bear characters, and this toy has become loved by children all over the world. No matter their upbringing, culture, or any other differences, one thing that all children can agree with is that there is nothing quite like the comfort and friendship that a teddy bear provides.
We have since seen the famous teddy bears from Briton, like Paddington and Winnie-the-Pooh. You also have the famous Care Bears series. In the United States, Radar, a teddy Bear from Sesame Street that belonged to Big Bird, hit the screens. Of course, Garfield, a lasagna-loving cat was also a big hit in the United States, and consequently around the world. Plus, we can’t forget Fozzie Bear from the Muppets either!
Our love affair with teddy bears has not ended. You only need to look at the new releases on TV and at the cinema to see that new teddy bear characters are being invented all of the time. In recent years, we have seen the Ted films become exceptionally popular. While aimed at adults rather than children, these films are still based on the premise of teddy bears being a best friend. Ted may be funny, but he is lovable, as all teddy bears are. If you have never seen the film, which stars Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg, we would definitely recommend watching it on Teddy Bear Day if you want to have a good old laugh!
How to celebrate Teddy Bear Day
There are a lot of different ways that you can celebrate Teddy Bear Day. One option is to dig up your favorite childhood teddy bear and take some photos of it. Share the images on social media and encourage your friends, family members, and followers to share images of their favorite teddy bear from when they were a child. Even if people do not have any photos of their bear, they will enjoy sharing stories of how they used to take their teddy bear everywhere with them.
Another fun way to spend this day is to go out and buy yourself a new teddy bear. Even as an adult, there is something cute and comforting about having a teddy bear in your home. As time has gone on, there have been a number of different companies that have popped up that enable you to purchase your own teddy bear.
You are able to choose the different fur and other unique characteristics that really make your teddy bear your own. If you have children, this is definitely a fun way to spend the day, but it is also fun and exciting even if you do not have any kids. After all, who does not love the idea of building their own teddy bear? If you are a particularly crafty person, you could even make your own teddy bear from scratch.
There are lots of different instructions online that enable you to do this, and it will be a fun way to spend the day. Plus, there is something amazing about having a teddy bear that you have made from scratch. It makes it feel even more like a real friend and companion. It is your own, and no one else in the world is going to have the same teddy bear as you. That is pretty amazing! Make sure that you share photos of your creation across social media if you’re the sort of person that uses Instagram and such like. We bet all of your followers will be super impressed!

The 10 Best Teddy Bears of 2023
The name “Teddy bear” has its origins linked to an American president, Theodore Roosevelt. The story dates back to 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt was on a hunting trip in Louisiana. During one of the hunts, President Roosevelt did not shoot a bear cub because he felt that it was being treated in an unfair way by the hunting party, which he deemed unethical.
This story was illustrated as a cartoon in The Washington Post by the cartoonist Clifford Berryman, which depicted President Roosevelt refusing to harm the bear cub. It attracted widespread public attention and became a symbol of compassion and respect for animal rights. Meanwhile, in New York, a toy maker called Morris Michtom and his wife, Rose, learned of the event and decided to create a bear toy, which they named “Teddy’s Bear” in honor of President Roosevelt. The bear quickly gained popularity, becoming an adored playmate for children and finally earning the name “Teddy bear”, a moniker that has endured to this day.

I'm working on the Nameless books and it's going very well but I've run into a problem 🤔ᴴᴹ what shall I name Nameless for the very end of the game, where Eri finally remembers his name? Because I'd like to keep it as accurate to the original game as much as humanly possible. But the only name that Nameless has is either Bear or the one that the player gives him. To my knowledge, there isn't actually a canonical name given to Nameless, but I feel it wouldn't do the game justice without including the scene in which Eri remembers Nameless' name. So I've come up with a few options:
Option 1: I go with the name I gave Nameless when I first played the game. The pros of this are that it is Nameless' name that I did give him. A downside of this is that my first doll was a baby girl so he's got a girl's name 🤔ᴴᴹ it might suit him tbh tho, idk
Option 2: I choose a name which had something to do with his name in the game files: Bear. Maybe the Korean word for bear or a different name that means bear or something..
Option 3: A name that means Nameless/empty/etc
Option 4: A name that references him being Eri's first doll, so something that means "first" or "original" or "eldest"
Option 5: My personal favourite - a name that calls back to him being a teddy bear but not just calling him straight up bear. Do you know the origins of the teddy bear? I explain:
Former president Theodore Roosevelt was once out hunting but couldn't find any bears to hunt. A bear was caught for him and tied up for him to shoot, but Roosevelt refused to shoot it.
This story reached the news and Clifford Berryman made a comic about it:
Tumblr media
A toy maker saw this comic and, inspired, made "Teddy's Bear", the first teddy bear!
This is the story of the teddy bear. After the first one was made, it became very popular and was mass produced and so now we all love teddy bears today!
So I thought that for Nameless, I could name him something that references the origin of teddy bears, Teddy Roosevelt's name - something like Theo or Rue
I don't really know if I'd go with the name Theo since I want it to be accurate to the original game and I'm not sure if a Korean kid would name their teddy something like that? So I thought of changing it to Teo but we already have both a Teo in a different game and a Tei in this game so I don't really like that..
But I do really really like the idea of calling him Rue instead
Option 6: This is one that I've just thought of, as I was writing this post. I could choose a name that doesn't reference him specifically but something else of importance in the Cheritz games; such as Angel or Dandelion or the name of a character from a different game or something referencing Eri's grandpa/family or even the Wizard. I really like the sound of Angel tbh, the number 1004 occurs a couple times across the games
Option 7: I dig deeper into the game and find out if he has any other sort of canonical name.. Perhaps there's concept art of him with a different name? There's not much I can really do in the way of this but if anyone knows anything that might elude to a name of his I would love to hear it
Option 8: I ditch the whole idea and leave the scene.. Nameless is nameless, that's kind of the point of him, and it'd be a slight injustice to him to give him one specific name when the fact that he doesn't have one means that he is a beautiful blank slate for individual players to project their own childhood toy onto. I wouldn't really like to do this but it is an option
Option 9: Something I haven't even thought of yet. Pls help. Struggling. 😅 I'm really leaning towards Rue, Angel or Dandelion/something similar but am definitely open to suggestion!!! Persuade me!!!! ^^

big teddy bear price in bd
Tumblr media
3 Feet teddy bear is a stuffed toy in the form of a bear. Developed apparently simultaneously by toymakers Morris Michtom in the U.S. and Richard Steiff under his aunt Margarete Steiff's company in Germany in the early 20th century, the teddy bear, named after President Theodore Roosevelt, became a popular children's toy and has been celebrated in story, song, and film.
Since the creation of the first teddy bears which sought to imitate the form of real bear cubs, "teddies" have greatly varied in form, style, color, and material. They have become collector's items, with older and rarer teddies appearing at public auctions. Teddy bears are among the most popular gifts for children and are often given to adults to signify affection, congratulations, or sympathy.
The name teddy bear comes from former United States President Theodore Roosevelt, who was often referred to as "Teddy" (though he loathed being referred to as such). The name originated from an incident on a bear hunting trip in Mississippi in November 1902, to which Roosevelt was invited by Mississippi Governor Andrew H. Longino. There were several other hunters competing, and most of them had already killed an animal. A suite of Roosevelt's attendants, led by Holt Collier, cornered, clubbed, and tied an American black bear to a willow tree after a long exhausting chase with hounds. They called Roosevelt to the site and suggested that he shoot it. He refused to shoot the bear himself, deeming this unsportsmanlike, but instructed that the bear be killed to put it out of its misery, and it became the topic of a political cartoon by Clifford Berryman in The Washington Post on November 16, 1902. While the initial cartoon of an adult black bear lassoed by a handler and a disgusted Roosevelt had symbolic overtones, later issues of that and other Berryman cartoons made the bear smaller and cuter.
Morris Michtom saw the Berryman drawing of Roosevelt and was inspired to create a teddy bear. He created a tiny soft bear cub and put it in his candy shop window at 404 Tompkins Avenue in Brooklyn with a sign "Teddy's bear." The toys were an immediate success and Michtom founded the Ideal Novelty and Toy Co.
A little earlier in 1902 in Germany, the Steiff firm produced a stuffed bear from Richard Steiff's designs. Steiff exhibited the toy at the Leipzig Toy Fair in March 1903, where it was seen by Hermann Berg, a buyer for George Borgfeldt & Company in New York (and the brother of composer Alban Berg). He ordered 3,000 to be sent to the United States. Although Steiff's records show that the bears were produced, they are not recorded as arriving in the U.S., and no example of the type, "55 PB", has ever been seen, leading to the story that the bears were shipwrecked. However, the shipwreck story is disputed – author Günther Pfeiffer notes that it was only recorded in 1953 and says it is more likely that the 55 PB was not sufficiently durable to survive until the present day. Although Steiff and Michtom were both making teddy bears at around the same time, neither would have known of the other's creation due to poor transatlantic communication.
North American educator Seymour Eaton wrote the children's book series The Roosevelt Bears, while composer John Walter Bratton wrote an instrumental "The Teddy Bears' Picnic", a "characteristic two-step", in 1907, which later had words written to it by lyricist Jimmy Kennedy in 1932.

Commemorating Memorial Day
Pulitzer Prize-winning political cartoonist Clifford K. Berryman (1869-1949) worked for the Washington Post and the Washington Evening Star between 1890 and 1949. He is even credited originating the teddy bear in a 1902 cartoon of Teddy Roosevelt.
This set of Berryman’s yearly cartoons about Memorial Day is more somber. These images from 1917, 1920, and 1924 capture the grief and sacrifice experienced by the United States people during and after World War I.
On this Memorial Day as always, we are thankful for the sacrifices of our military.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TEDDY BEAR! The first Teddy Bear was sold on this day in 1903.
From the National Museum of American History: PRESIDENT CALLED AFTER THE BEAST HAD BEEN LASSOED, BUT HE REFUSED TO MAKE AN UNSPORTSMANLIKE SHOT–
This was the headline of the Washington Post on November 15, 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a 235-pound black bear that had been tied to a tree. When encouraged to shoot it, the President is rumored to have said, “I’ve hunted game all over America and I’m proud to be a hunter. But I couldn’t be proud of myself if I shot an old, tired, worn-out bear that was tied to a tree.”
A famous political cartoonist for the Washington Star, Clifford Berryman, picked up on the President’s refusal to shoot the bear, and used it as a metaphor for Roosevelt’s indecision over a Mississippi boundary dispute. Berryman’s cartoon soon became well known throughout the United States and inspired Brooklyn candy store owners Rose and Morris Michtom to make the first stuffed bear toy, which they appropriately named Theodore Roosevelt.
Before making additional bears, Morris Michtom wrote to Roosevelt to ask his permission to make a small bear cub and call it “Teddy’s Bear.” His son, Benjamin Michtom, said that although Roosevelt agreed to lend his name to the new invention he doubted it would ever amount to much in the toy business. In 1903, the Ideal Toy Company was born, soon to become a multimillion-dollar business. By 1908, the bear had become such a popular toy that a Michigan minister warned that replacing dolls with toy bears would destroy the maternal instincts in little girls.
In 1963, Benjamin Michtom, at that time the president of the Ideal Toy Company, decided that it would be appropriate to celebrate the Teddy Bear’s 60th birthday. He first contacted Mrs. Alice Roosevelt Longworth, Teddy Roosevelt’s daughter, to offer her one of the original Teddy Bears if she would pose with it. Mrs. Longworth reportedly exclaimed, “I don’t want it.” The pitchman for the Ideal Toy Company asked, “For goodness sakes, why not?”
Mrs. Longworth replied, “What does a 79-year-old doll want with a 60-year-old bear?” Not to be discouraged, Mr. Mitchom contacted Mr. Kermit Roosevelt, a grandson of T.R. and asked his children to pose with it. Mitchom said he would give the bear to him, with the understanding that it would later be given to the Smithsonian Institution. After the photo shoot, Kermit Roosevelt’s children, Mark and Anne Roosevelt, decided they couldn’t part with the bear and actually hid it from their parents. A letter from Mrs. Roosevelt to Mr. Michtom said, “I was about to get in touch with the Smithsonian about presenting them with the original bear when the children decided they didn’t want to part with it yet.” Eventually, however, the children changed their minds, and the bear was given to the Smithsonian in January 1964.
