smol analysis moment!!!
In the story mission, Home Sweet Home in Borderlands TPS, you summon a Claptrap to open the door to Jack's office. This leads to funny shenanigans where said Claptrap tries to work around the security system by using a Birthday Cat and Racist Hotdog, which then return for the L33t h4X0rz repeatable mission, but I'm not getting into that, I'm getting into Claptrap's hostile attitude towards him.
I saw this post where a person I know made a small comic panel with him yelling something quite odd-- "HURRY THE HELL UP! I HATE SNOW!" Of which, may not be completely true.
During this mission, Jack informs you (If you're playing as FR4G-TP) that he wiped his ability to open doors with gun and stair-climbing protocols, resulting in a dramatic "WHAT HAVE I BECOOOMMEE!" from Claptrap, very much distressed by this. He summons the normal Claptrap and hesitantly asks him to open a door, very clearly jealous of how fortunate he is compared to him. He's using him as a vent.
Ok, so I'll be completely honest here-- I haven't really listened to any of the other characters social interactions. I mean, this is my fucking save on my PS4
But from my knowledge, it seems as the other characters simply do not like interacting with him.
Claptrap, on the other hand, just witnessed Felicity's death and is having a very difficult time with comprehending it, and adding another Claptrap caused him to explode. He really doesn't get angry all that often (The times he's gotten pissed in the borderlands web series doesn't really count. May elaborate.) so seeing him get this fired up is something rare. Just seeing what his life could be instead of what he is now probably hurts a whole damn lot. He could still be a normal Claptrap, not having to kill tons of people or have his emotions and dreams suppressed by foreign code. I would say that it was without consent, but he willingly let it happen in order to please Jack and be more appealing, which unfortunately didn't really happen.
If it weren't for is FR4G-TP protocols, he probably would've just started crying by then, completely losing it, but they were clearly suppressed. The only thing that managed to get through was some of that pent-up anger that barely made it through into his systems in the first place.
Another time, Claptrap nearly cries after being asked how he's doing, but quickly moves on when he realizes Springs said his name.
Springs: "Heya Fragtrap -- good job with the laser an' all. Doin' alright?"
Claptrap: (a bit choked up) "Not really! I helped Jack kill some innocent people! And then my friends betrayed me, and tried to kill me, and -- Wait! You remembered my name! This is the best day ever!"
This may be an example of his FR4G-TP programming suppressing those emotions again. It's no surprise that he's so depressed in Bl2, he could barely feel his own emotions, and then they all came rushing back to him when it finally released it's grip on him. I think in some ways, some of it still remains in him, and it's probably the only reason he's still alive.
So in summary, Claptrap is very limited in emotion and expression while he's FR4G-TP, which ultimately caused him most of the trauma in his life. And it may not be that he hates snow, but that he became angry very quickly because of pent-up emotions that he vented upon that other unfortunate Claptrap.

What an E3 scoop it has been for Nintendo folks, lemme tell y’all. Not only with got Dragon Quest’s Hero, but we also got Banjo-Kazooie into the mix too! Claptrap Voice David Eddings Named Head of Publishing at Rooster Teeth Games
Rooster Teeth is largely known for its web series, like the Halo-themed Red vs. Blue. However the company has also had a game development studio for a couple of years called Rooster Teeth Games. That studio also has a game publishing arm, seeking out potentially exciting games. The developer closed its week by naming a new Head of Publishing, David Eddings.
If that name doesn't ring a bell right away, perhaps this will.

Eddings is widely recognized as the voice of Borderlands' favorite annoying robot, Claptrap. He also worked with Gearbox for 12 years, most recently as the VP of Business Development, before exiting the company in 2017 for new horizons at Rooster Teeth. On Friday, Eddings announced his new position as Head of Publishing.
"So it's a great privilege to introduce myself to you as the Head of Publishing at Rooster Teeth Games," Eddings said on the Rooster Teeth website. "And it's an even bigger honor to be welcomed into the Rooster Teeth family and to have a platform to present to you some of the freshest, most fun, kick-ass indie games around. Between you and me, it feels like the last 20 years has been leading up to this very moment and I hope you'll join me for the ride."
Eddings is expected to reveal the first Rooster Teeth-published game in the coming months. In the meantime, today's a good time to remember his work as a voice actor by re-reading Shacknews' Claptrap Retrospective.

If you're familiar with Borderlands, chances are you've seen the Claptrap Web Series. These are videos that were released a bit after the first Borderlands games to advertise the newest ones. I'm here to share some facts and differentiate between the two– Canon Claptrap and Director Claptrap.
First of all, the web series is NOT canon. I'm sure you all know this, but sorry if I ruined that for ya 🤷♀️. This also means both Claptraps are separate entities from one another.
Director Claptrap appears in the web series, Poker Night at the Inventory 2 and the lastest being a promotional video for Borderlands 3. He's characterized by his overbearing and rash attitude and overall bad representation of his character in-game. While canon Claptrap is insecure, much more open about his feelings, and comes off as childish, director claptrap is arrogant, demanding, and expects everything to be given to him. He uses a fake personality, one that is more polite and calm, until he gets set off and gets unusually angry and violent. He is much more vulgar than he is in the games, and this is the only version of Claptrap I can accept that many find him annoying. He references media outside of the games, mentioning celebrities, television and movie tropes, and generally making fun of popular media whilst also directing and mentioning features advertising the new game.
Anthony Burch, the lead writer for Borderlands 2, wrote this about writing Claptrap in this interview by Gamesbeat, "I wrote Claptrap much closer to how he behaves in the web shorts: arrogant, insulting, profane, etcetera. It took a bit of internal discussion, and a couple of rewrites, to put Claptrap in a place where fans who hadn’t seen the shorts wouldn’t be shocked at Claptrap’s sudden doucheitude in BL2..."
Claptrap was originally intended to be a lot more like his web series personality. Using this personality for him in BL2 would leave players confused as to why he was so much meaner. they ultimately decided on making his personality a bit less abrasive and more friendly, which was ultimately a good choice, as the words "asshole" and "jerk" aren't really associated with Claptrap when people criticize him.
I just wanted to share this little gem of information that I think is interesting about Claptrap, as per usual. Let me know your thoughts about this if you would like.
