Went to the skate ramp at the local school tonight with the derby crowd and there was a few guys also on the ramps just mucking about and skating but this little girl in black and purple blades saw us and was like girls!!!skating and just hung out with us for like 45 asking questions and showing us what she could do (the tiniest baby roll on the ramp) it's so nice that young girls get to see that they are allowed to belong in these spaces like the guys were fine they weren't doing anything but there's always been such a bro culture that's super intimidating that just makes girls feel like they don't belong

Never really thought of knees as a sweaty body part until I took up skating. Mind, I double-bag them these days.
I had a good time at the girls'-and-marginalised-genders' night at the skatepark. Met some nice people. Did a lot of sliding, on my skates as well as my bum. Did a teeny-tiny little drop-in.
The more reliably I take my anxiety medication, the better I am at "go and do the thing that sounds like fun even if you go by yourself and you're sure everyone else will be better and younger* and cooler and all know each other already." I mean, I'm still weird and awkward. But I do the fun things.
*This particular one will flip from "older" to "younger" with absolutely no discernible moment in between, so just accept you will never feel ready and do the fun thing anyway.
