This is just about the most 1:1 thematic parallel in the game. Music gf who just wants to make people smile set up as a major protag love interest has murder attempt in first round that reveals a previously unknown, brutal side to them, willing to deceive the people around them, and their death becomes a major motivator for the protagonists’ pursuit of truth. Even their attempted murder victims have similar visual design. The only reason Kaede wasn’t clocked as a Sayaka trial redux right away is because of the protag fakeout

Which is all to say these two have SO MUCH in common. They share work, a cheery exterior hiding a much less stable personality underneath, they have a willingness to terrible things for what they perceive to be the greater good…my god, man, they both wear hair clips. It’s hard to get more compatible than this.

Chihiro/Ibuki

This one came about because they were the two finalists in the Dangan Girls Poll. And sometimes, what more do you need in a ship than to think both of the characters are really, really neat

Ibuki’s entire life trajectory has been determined by her desire to be true to herself and her wants, and Chihiro’s entire life trajectory has been determined by fear of being true to herself and her wants. Ibuki could be a HUGE influence on the strength of Chihiro’s personal identity. And also Chihiro could rock out on synth. Mutual Growth

Celeste somehow manages to balance on the top of the chair and puts her feet on the seat part, it’s a challenge now to find a chair she can’t sit on (she likes to feel tall even though she’s already the tallest of the class, excluding Yasuhiro because. he’s a grown man)

Asahina manspreads too much, like she looks like she’s doing the splits while sitting

Sayaka always sits close to a wall and she’ll lean back until her chair is leaning against it. It calms her down, but sometimes she forgets when she’s not against a wall and will just fall (Leon also leans, but definitely not as much)

Togami always holds his arms behind the back of his chair. It’s just a stim he does, but he’s convinced the class that it’s some fancy etiquette. Most of the time people think someone snapped and tied Togami to a chair when they see it for the first time

Ibuki sits with no caution, the way she falls in that beach pic??? that’s just how she sits down, full lean into freefall. She breaks a lot of chairs

Peko relaxes her whole body and it always looks like she’s sleeping. She models it after a cat, where she can jump up at any threat, but she ends up actually falling asleep a lot (honestly she has insomnia but she refuses to admit it, so she’s constantly tired)

I don’t know a lot about these guys but I’d like to try;

Kaito sits with his legs up on the armrests. It looks so uncomfortable but he likes it so. the other students are just concerned but letting it happen.

And the mechanic man will sit under the chair. Nobody knows how he does it because he’s so tall, but he will fit under any chair and hang out

Oh and Mikan picks at chairs, she will disassociate and just rip off pieces of fabric or plastic. It scares the shit out of Monokuma - queer eye anon

god okay I couldn’t find the comic it made me think of, but I imagine the first time Makoto sees Celeste sit Like That™️, he accidentally walks in on her and Kyoko and hears Kyoko just very casually ask “are you sitting up there because you want to feel closer to god?”

you know the one with the cat on the counter?? and the artist mentions that it was something that happened between with them and their roommate?? yeah that one!!

anyway he is obviously confused and concerned but slowly comes to realize that oh no. this is literally just how everybody in his class performs normal everyday behaviors. (That being said, he definitely crosses his legs while sitting ❤️)

she probably leans forward and puts her hands on the seat of whatever chair she’s in!!! she looks like an excited little kid!! She puts so much energy into everything she does, even literally just sitting down!!!

SAYAKA LEANING AGAINST THE WALL IS VERY POG and I am also a fan of her rocking back and forth!! Just the little movements that are calming!!

and being against the wall itself is so nice!! There’s something about the angle !! Like almost laying down, but still being alert and participating in active conversation is probably very soothing for her!!

Fuyuhiko/blond mob (?) guy hates the water and I say that’s canon now. Mukuro has to hold him bridal style until they get to his fuckin beach chair and she spends the entire time like “you realize I could be getting carried by or carrying one of my GIRLFRIENDS”

Byakuya refuses to wear his swimsuit. He wears like a gross Gucci shirt and some khakis or something rich looking idk. CoMpLeTeLy UnReLaTeD, Celeste and Chiaki have filled up about ten Super Soakers and Peko has been chasing them around for a good half hour making sure they don’t get drowned in the ocean by Togami

Monokuma is the type to lay facedown in the ocean because he wants to see if anyone will notice he’s “dead” and try to help (yes this is what I did as a kid)

literally NO ONE cares. Ibuki is the only person. She goes to Junko because she’s concerned and Junko’s like “yeah he just kinda does that” “really?” “no but whatever, he’s fine”

After the initial shock of realizing that she is Not Gping To Die Today, Toko goes with her to help shop for all the romantic things!! And honestly, they kinda hit it off?

Like before this, they weren’t particularly close with one another, but hanging out together and picking out gifts for someone they both care about helps to kinda show each of them the other’s more soft, endearing side!

she was programming a videogame (gaming is one of Ibuki’s Likes in canon!) and then it simply......decided to bug out and stop working......right before Valentine’s Day.....

she’s a big crier so it sets her off, especially since it was a gift for Ibuki......hvvvhvvvvv but her rationale goes smth like this “ok ok ok, she and Leon are really close, maybe he can help.....plus he won’t make fun of me for crying.....”

And Leon comes over and is like oh shit I’m sorry but also HELL yeah I have just the thing

Basically he helps her set up the raddest, most punk rock gift EVER (using the firecrackers he can’t give to Makoto jsbdbsbsbdbd) it’s mostly just a bunch of music stuff accompanied by fujisaki promising to work out the bugs in the game and get it to her as soon as possible (catch ibuki absolutely SOBBING that’s so sweet????? she loves her partner so much oh my goodness)

Ibuki meanwhile wrote a song for Chihiro complete with a bunch of programmer and technology puns!! she also got her a few comfy sweaters, another cutesy skirt, and a ton of neat hairclips!!!!

Also thank god chihiro was willing to help Leon come up with things for Makoto because he never would have been able to do something chill and not overwhelming on his own shdbdbsbdbdv basically she’s like “get him some roses and chocolates and maybe a stuffed bear! he’ll love it, you know?” and he’s like oh yeah that makes sense

so yeah that’s what he does and makoto freaking swoons because hdbdbdbdfvvddv okay yes it’s cliche but????? so romantic???????,? hdvdvdvdvdvdvdv

Naegi’s gift to Leon was a jar filled with little slips of paper inside of it, each one detailing a different thing he loves about kuwata <3 he also gives him a multipack of ramen and leon loses his mind because,,,,,,,,hhdhrbrbdbbdbdbd bboyfriend,,,,,,,

Anyways, I come bringing dysphoric Asahina! She doesn’t have a lot, but it’s a big downward spike when it happens. She keeps her hair down, it’s really not as long as it seems but having that short hair panics her. She also has some like specific baggy clothing to help dysphoria, so everyone sees it and goes “👀👀👀 hello beautiful, valid woman, we love you”

Let’s sing ^*^” and Chihiro just going -~- because god she loves her gf but GOD Ibuki did not think about her doing both lights and sound (it’s a crime I haven’t mentioned ishimaru; he helps but also has no idea what he’s doing, so it’s mostly Chihiro doing lights, sound, AND making sure he doesn’t break any equipment) - queer eye anon

It tends to be very Obvious when she’s having a Bad Day because normally!!! she wears things like shorts and t-shirts and other clothes that make movement and athletics easier, so seeing her walk in with a sweatshirt and sweatpants and having her hair down (sometimes she doesn’t style it or brush it at all, which adds to her dysphoria a lot :( ) is a huge red flag for everyone!!!

they make it a point to be extra nice to her and give her validation wherever they can when it happens!! They also, of course, ask if there’s anything specific that she needs or that they can do for her!!!
