on this ep. of Welcome to the Art Shed we talk to Thomas “Shoebock” McGee, from Pinch Spice Market, about his travels to India & Sri Lanka to look for spices. Freakuently Asked Questions
1. Whatever shall I wear to such an occasion?
Wear whatever expresses the “you” you want to be with us! Costumes of all kinds are encouraged, from a comfy onesie to the most elaborate ensemble. The sky’s the limit! We will have a small handful of masks and headbands to add to your look. Our roommate Maribel will be around for face/body painting, too!
Here’s a pic from the first time we “costumed” (and volunteered) together. We were helping out at a checkpoint for Chiditarod (probably the world’s largest mobile food drive, www.chiditarod.com)
2. Whatever shall I bring!?!
A gift can be anything. Josh and Reba know a lot of things, but we don’t know beer. If you have opinions on beer, or just would like something specific, or generally would like a “bro soda”, please feel free to bring whatever you like! We’ll have a bit of liquor on hand and LOTS of soft drinks, but we’ll be happy to add anything to our bar and we’ll have ice, cups, some mixers, that sorta thing.
3. Wait, your wedding is tomorrow?
Yes, it is! Wild, huh?
4. Can I park?
Yes! The parking lot across the street from our house will be open and available from doors until 5am. If you’re still partying with us at 5, we’ll just need to ghostride the whip into a spot on the street.
5. Can I eat this?
So, we decided that having someone else cater the food was going to be a little bit too much work, and have concluded that we should cook all the food ourselves. Makes sense, right? Anyways, prepare yourself for a feast of Italian favorites (when you’re here, you’re family!) If you’ve RSVPed (see next question), we have your dietary restrictions and will be making sure there’s safe and tasty options for everyone, with labels. Josh has a food allergy himself, so he knows about fun things like cross contamination and anaphylactic shock.
6. Did I RSVP?
Many of you have RSVP’ed, and several of you have done so more than once. We won’t be awarding extra credit for that, but it’s impressive, nevertheless. If you haven’t, we still love you and want you to have a hassle-free experience with our door staff. If you’re not sure you’re on our list of confirmed attendees, please get ahold of Josh and he’ll make sure that we have you. Do it today, and I’ll get you on the list. If you can’t get your act together today, message JOSH and he’ll let you know what to do (likely a password).
7. Can I sleep here?
Yes! Please please please don’t feel you have to leave if it would be unsafe for you to do so! We have plenty of crash space and bedding and we’d MUCH rather subject you to our snoring than having any of our guests make risky sojourns home.
8. Where can I get breakfast around here?
Just sit your butt down, we’re making breakfast. We have some real tasty things in mind for anyone still with us when the neighborhood rooster starts making noise.
9. How can I help?
Our friends are the best, and we were not at all surprised by how many of you volunteered to help. We’re finishing decorating today, so let us know if you’d like to come by. Tomorrow, we’ll have some cooking to do, so if you would like to help in the kitchen, let Josh know! Otherwise, we will likely enlist some help making sure that food and drink are being replenished during the party!
10. But...but...what...
Don’t worry. Just come and have fun. Leave the anxiety and freak outs to us.
11. That was fun. Anyone up for games?
If you’re still up and around on Sunday, please consider joining us at our favorite bar to play our favorite obscure video game. We’ll be heading to Logan Arcade in the afternoon for a casual Killer Queen event, drinks, pinball, and spending more time with you!

For April’s theme of GAME, who better to join the CM/Chicago community than Devin Breen, founder of CHIditarod-- a “1,000 person costumed shopping cart race and mobile food drive”?
We can’t wait to hear from him, so we reached out a little early with a few questions to help you get to know him better! Enjoy our Q&A with Devin below, and see you soon!
List three words that begin with the letter G to describe yourself/your personality.
Goonie
Gregarious
Go!
What was one surprising thing you learned from the first CHIditarod you put on?
Police officers are fond of patches.
I love that you and your wife Liz built a toolkit to help other cities establish their own versions of CHIditarod. What part of the event feels distinctly Chicago to you?
The bribery, of course. Jokes aside, Chicago created the philanthropic aspect. The food drive, the fundraising, the grants, making an impact beyond the celebration.
What are the top three places you find inspiration?
Being in motion on my bike
Black Rock City
Mountains

Thought I would share a patch design I did for CHIditarod XIV, its also Illinois Bicentennial (hence the bison). It didn't get chosen this year, but its still a awesome cause. If you are in the Chicago area, definitely check it out.
