I actually think the 1990s mini series captures the book better than the recent films (at least my reading of the book) it's cheasy and cheap and campy but it kind of works because the book was so clearly inspired by bad 1950s horror movies and the characters are allowed to have scenes as a group so it feels like they really love eachother (none of this forced to stay bullshit) I feel like it understood the appeal was with the losers not IT no matter how much I love Tim Curry in it.

Agreed! The miniseries did a wonderful job of capturing the essence of the book and the Losers. It gave time to each character so we got to know them as people and also, maybe more importantly, moments of friendship that made them all feel like actual ride or die friends. I think Ch1 did this too but Ch2 really dropped the ball on it. And I totally agree that the book and miniseries both have that cheesy 1950’s horror vibe in common. I don’t dislike the 1989 timeline but it definitely feels different. I love the miniseries so much... I watched it during quarantine but I already miss it. 🥺
