July 5 - White
Luca loved his family, he really did, and he truly treasured all that they did for him. He knew that he was luckier than most guys his age to be as close to his parents and siblings the way that he was. There were really no complaints when it came to his life and how everything panned out. That being said, though, he recognized that his life would be completely empty if it wasn’t for Valentina Harding.
So sue him for being a little more smitten with her than what was probably normal.   He already knew that Val was far more special to him than anyone else realistically was or could be. There wasn’t a thing she could do to him that would have him pushing her away. She could literally knock the breath out of him and he would be gasping for air in her direction.
It probably shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that he would allow Valentina to completely tackle him to the ground and let her pin his wrists above their heads. Most guys would probably be annoyed with her actions, but he relished at the sight of her triumphant expression as she sat on top of him.
“Alright, alright, I wave my white flag…” Luca chuckled, holding up his hands, trying to keep Val from seeing all the adoration he held for her in one simple expression.
“I don’t remember asking if you were ready for a truce.” Valentina mused, leaning forward so she could force more pressure on him.  The two of them spent far more time wrestling with each other lately than they probably had in the past.
Luca wasn’t shy enough at this point to refrain from smacking Val’s ass, honestly hoping that she would decide to punish him for his actions. “I decided to make the executive decision myself.” He smirked.
As predicted, Val’s expression was one of false  outrage. “That’s not how things work, Lu.” She reminded him, smirking as she bent back down to wrap her arms up around him.
Luca, knowing that trying to sit back up came with a certain terror, remained down, chuckling in spite of himself. “I surrender, I surrender, okay?” He held his hands up, shaking his head. “As always, you win, Val.”

May 14 - Appreciate
Luca may be biased, but he was positive he had the best family around.  He had amazing sisters, some cousins he considered best friends, and, of course, the coolest parents.  He looked up to his father in almost every sense of the word, going as far to match his trademarked bleach blonde hair.  He hoped to one day be a man like him. And his mother? He couldn’t begin to explain how much he appreciated her.  She had been his rock for as he could remember. Sure, Val was his other half, but his mom still knew a vulnerability in him that really no one else did.
Now that he was about to become a dad himself, he admired his own parents even more.  They were the reason he was so eager to have children, but now that he was actually having them he really understood just how much effort had gone into making him as happy as he was. Not many 18 year olds could say they had a mother and father supporting them deciding to forego college to pursue a career in art while also casually deciding to just have a baby.
He knew there were some apprehensions, because what sane parent didn’t have them, but did they voice them often? No. They continued to support him and offered their help when they saw fit. Luca knew that this was probably a more difficult situation for his mother to easily accept, but he knew she was trying and he loved her all the more for it.
So, to show his gratitude, he was painting her a new picture. He had painted many things for his home and loved ones throughout the year, but this might’ve been the grandest piece he didn’t do for commission. The canvas was nearly 4 feet tall, probably the biggest non-mural painting he had ever done. It was a portrait of one his parents’ favorite photos of his mom from when she used to perform.  The photographed version currently hung in their foyer.
He was unnaturally giddy when he was done.  He knew his mother was going to love it (his father probably would too) and he was just pretty proud of his work.  He tried using oil paints, which he was typically not used to working with, to really highlight the drama of the shot.  And it was beautiful.
Luca insisted on blindfolding his mom as he brought her to the finished product.  He had snuck it into their garage when he first arrived without drawing attention.
“Is something going to jump out at me?” His mother inquired.  “Am I going to have to eat something?”
“Come on, ma, you know me better than that.” Luca tsked teasingly.  That was something he would do to maybe his father or Valentina, but he knew his mom wouldn’t enjoy that and he wasn’t a dumbass.
She smiled, holding her hands up defensively.  “Just gotta check.”
He chuckled, switching on the garage lights.  He stood his mother in place, then removed the tarp from the painting, instructing her to remove her blindfold.  “Ta-da!” He gestured to his work proudly, his smile wide.
It took only seconds for her expression to change instantly to one of surprise, one hand flying to her open mouth. She slowly approached the portrait, her other hand about to touch it but stopping at the last moment. When she turned to him, her eyes were already beginning to fill with tears. “What’s this, baby?”
“You don’t recognize yourself?” Luca’s voice was innocent, even if he was still grinning.
“This is beautiful...thank you, Luca. Am I forgetting Mother’s Day or something?” She asked, her voice breathless. “Did you forget a present along the way at some point.”
Luca shook his head, closing the distance between them so he could wrap an arm around her shoulders and kiss the top of her head. “Neither. I just love you, and I wanted to do something nice since you’re always doing the same for me.”
His mom dabbed at her eyes with her sleeve, then looked up at him with a teary smile. “It’s my job, honey.”
Luca shrugged. “And I appreciate all the work that you do.” He gave her a squeeze. He considered himself a very lucky guy to have a mom as awesome as her and he couldn’t wait for his son to get to know her.

April 03 - Chalk
It was pretty funny that most people considered Luca a shy guy. The word they were probably looking for was quiet (sometimes disinterested), but he didn’t really care about the opinions of others. Anyone who knew and had somewhat of a relationship with him knew that if he took after any parent more (despite being, in his opinion, a great mix of the two) that it was his father. He was a crackhead at heart. Truly a little shit, if he cared. People should probably be lucky that they didn’t know this side of him.
And there was no one in the entire universe that could pull this side out of him, especially at such a magnitude, than Valentina Harding. She was his best friend since birth and, honestly (not that he would admit it), the woman he had been in love with for the past three years. Anyone with eyes could see that she was his other half. The person he became when he was with her was truly his best, most authentic self, and he was almost embarrassed to admit that she was the only one who knew it. Then again, there wasn’t another person on this planet he felt such a cosmic connection to.  Whatever the two of them had was clearly something meant for the stars, even if they tried to downplay it frequently.
Luca wouldn’t even dare thinking about doing this to his mother or sisters. As much as he loved his family, he couldn’t fathom tackling any of them in public or try to sabotage their appearance so they would be embarrassed to walk back to their cars. It would also just be wrong to touch any of them the way he did Val...so much so it made him cringe to even think about it.
He kept it cool when Val approached him while he worked, biting his lip so he wouldn’t smile too hard.  Val would be suspicious. “Hey whore!” She greeted cheerily, holding out his Starbucks order.
Luca took the cup graciously, masking his smirk by taking a sip. “You’re 8 minutes late. Seems a bit hypocritical to call me a whore.”
Val pretended to be offended, huffing and puffing as she dramatically whipped out her middle finger. “Bite me, bitch.  I paid extra for your oat milk and maybe I might have gotten you a cake pop...that I bit half of...but the sentiment was still there.”
It took a lot of strength not to roll his eyes.  “Ugh, I’m being so horrible when you’re such an angel.  What would I do without you?” He sprang to his feet, arms outstretched.  It was clear that he was going in for a hug.  And it was just his luck that Val was wearing white.
Usually, his murals were done with weather resistant acrylic paint, but this client specifically wanted chalk for their temporary pop-up.  Luca didn’t understand, he hoped it wouldn’t rain between the time they were open, but ultimately a paycheck was a paycheck.  And, as chalk would go, he was absolutely covered in it.  His hands, specifically, were practically caked in a multitude of colors.
Val saw his palms, the expression on his face, and immediately began to back away quickly.  “Luca...Luca!  Don’t you fucking dare!” She screeched.
He was already exhausted from laughter as he approached her easily, wrapping his body tight against hers.  He rubbed his hands all up and down her t-shirt, moving them across her slip of exposed skin and onto her white leggings.  He pressed them against her face, smushing her cheeks in the way he know she hated, before giving her an old fashioned noogie.  When he was done, she as covered in pastel chalk.
The moment he let her go, Val stood on her tiptoes to take his face in her hands.  “I am going to get you back and it's going to be so much worse than this.” She promised, her voice gentle but sincere.  She even kissed the tip of his nose for added show, then patted his cheek just a little harder than normal.  “Everyone knows you like to feel me up, but honestly, Luca, you could have just asked.”
“Please.” Luca snorted, actually rolling his eyes now. He didn’t hesitate to move his hands back down the side of her body, going exceptionally slow as they travelled down certain areas.  “I can do this whenever I want.   This was an excuse to get you back for Monday during fifth period.” He smacked her ass once his hands got there, because why not?  Hell, he even kept his hands there for a little bit simply because he could. “And you’re welcome.  We both know you love it.”

“Why are you embarrassed? It’s me!” Val to Luca
“I’m not embarrassed…” Luca was too comfortable to sound defensive, but he did swat Val’s finger away from poking at his cheeks.  He knew he was blushing, he didn’t need her to point it out.  He was aware of everything that was going on with his body at the moment.  He wouldn’t say he was embarrassed though…then again, he didn’t know what he would necessarily call it.  He wasn’t all that experienced with the twisty feeling that was going on in his chest.
In response, Val just arched an eyebrow and pulled herself even closer to him.  If Luca hadn’t felt every curve of her body before this, he certainly did now.  And she could feel just how excited that made him.  His grip on her waist tightened to hold her in place before he could stop himself.  “You’re so fucking evil, Val.” He tried to scowl at her when he knew he could actually speak without making a bigger fool of himself.  He was biting on his lip just to keep himself from doing just that.
Luca knew he had to answer her question properly or the teasing would continue.  He wasn’t sure if he’d really care, but there was a bit of an issue.  “You’re my best friend...” He mused softly, reaching a hand up to her face.  He let his index finger trail the details of her features softly as he thought over his words.  He would be lying if he said that it was just Val’s body that he was attracted to.  He’d also be lying if he said he wasn’t struggling to reconcile his thoughts while he wanted to kiss her really badly.
“Most friends don’t have total boners for each other.” He finally said, shrugging to try downplaying what he was actually saying.  “I may be a guy, yeah, but you really are beautiful, Val, and I’ve had girlfriends who’ve made me feel less than you, so what’s that about, huh?” He poked her cheeks this time for good measure.
He wasn’t actually looking for a real answer from her.  He didn’t have one himself and he doubted she would either.  He knew that their relationship was always something a little more special than friends, but that’s all they were at the moment.  Luca didn’t really know if he even wanted to give that up.  Val wasn’t just his best friend.  She was easily the one person in his life he was always comfortable with outside of his family and she knew this.  He definitely wasn’t embarrassed that he (or his body, at least) was crossing a line, but he was confused.

"It's going to be the same whichever way you pick. Either is it true you want to have sex with me or I dare you to have sex with me so..." Val to Luca
Luca sighed in exasperation, his lips pursing and eyebrows pinching together in thought, as if she was presenting him with a difficult decision.  As he did so, though, he allowed his hands to move from his sides and up her waist, his fingers sinking deep into the sliver of her exposed skin.  He used his grip to pull Val more forward on his body so she was now straddling his waist.  Unfortunately, her new position allowed her to feel just how excited he felt about her proposal, but he kept his expression even.  His grin was a bit mocking.  “Hmmm…” He mused, trying to keep up his little act.
Valentina’s amused expression was probably one of the hottest things he had ever seen in his life.  If he wasn’t already aroused, the way she slowly began to slide her hand under his shirt and across his chest certainly did the trick.  His grip on her tightened.  Luca would be lying if he said that he’d never thought about his best friend like this.  The thoughts had only started to occur maybe two years ago when she first kissed him accidentally on the lips on their birthday, but they only came to him every now and then.  Lately, though, he couldn’t deny he had been thinking of Val more often.  Ever since they spoke about them trying and actually succeeding in creating a baby, it was all he could think of.  Valentina, a baby, Valentina pregnant with their baby, them actually being a family, him and Val as something more than friends…they were intrusive thoughts that Luca couldn’t shake for more than a few hours.
“A difficult decision, that is.” He tried to muster a serious expression, nodding like he was thinking it through.  “Can I phone a friend?” Luca asked teasingly.  Then, he suddenly reached forward to grab her free hand so that he could tug her forward so that chest was now pressed against his.  Val readjusted herself into a more accommodating position immediately.  Luca placed his hand against the back of her neck and gave her one brief, charming smile before he pulled her closer to him and began to kiss her.  The two of them only stopped  briefly to remove the other's shirts.
There was never a time in his life where he allowed his hands to explore Valentina like this.  Once he started, he couldn’t stop.  Luca quickly pulled her back to him, one hand effortlessly unhooking the clasp of her bra as he kissed down her neck, breasts, and stomach while the garment fell against his bed.  It was only seconds later that Val was kicking off her shorts and letting her hands move feverishly to his jeans, yanking them down and practically taking his boxers with them.  The two of them had to pause at the moment and laugh at her near fail.  But as as quick as the lighthearted moment came, it left when Luca helped her finish undressing him and then herself.  “I suppose,” He began again, pausing his kisses for a short moment to answer her question, “If I had to choose, then I pick dare, duh.”

"How was I supposed to know that if you don't tell me?" Val to Luca
Luca was rendered speechless for several moments before he finally mustered up some confidence and acceptance for the situation at hand. Val’s question was like a slap in the face, but she had no reason not to ask it. “You weren’t, I suppose. My bad.” He said simply, his voice soft, shrugging for extra measure. He was already past the point of comfort , but he was keen on holding his ground on this situation for once. He had found it very difficult lately to be doing so around Val. Even if he was admitting fault, he still wanted to be in control since he very often was not.
“But I’m telling you now.” Luca continued, his tone even. He wasn’t going to just forefeit the situation due to his nerves or disappoint from how things were unraveling. This was important to him. He didn’t just give up when things started to go south. “And I’m making sure there’s no confusion. It was my mistake for not being absolutely explicit in the past, but I won’t make it again, Valentina.” He shook his head. If it weren’t for his goddamn nerves, he probably would have been able to smile more evenly at her.
He could feel his hands trembling at his sides. That was the sole reason he didn’t reach out to take one of her own in his. He wasn’t perfect and Luca had already proved that numerous times in just one day. He couldn’t recall a time he had felt so uncertain about himself, but that was probably an indication of how monumental this situation was. Of how strongly he felt for the girl before him. He wasn’t just trying to prove himself to Val as a father - he wanted to be accepted as a potential partner for her as well. Luca understood that he went about things in a disorderly fashion, but he couldn’t help how he felt. With the way Valentina occupied his thoughts, he knew he had to do something. He physically couldn’t sit idly by for much longer.
“I don’t want to share you.” The words tumbled out of his mouth quick. He could feel the heat pooling in his cheeks, but he cleared his throat and stood a little straighter. He wasn’t going to lose sight of what he wanted. “And I just don’t mean the baby - I mean every side of you. I don’t want other guys thinking they can just lay claim to you, nor do I want to see their hands all over your body. Especially not on our child. Not that I think you told him to just do that, but...” He shook his head, frustrated to already be reliving that memory. His blood was boiling all over again. Val knew him well enough by now to know that he was swallowing back his immediate rage.
“It bothers me.” He finally admitted, exhaling slowly and carefully now that he had finally revealed his little secret out loud. In a normal situation where he was being so brazenly vulnerable, he probably would have looked away. Instead, he made a point to meet her gaze. “Just the thought of someone else taking you out, of treating you...it fucking bothers me, Val.” Luca’s tone was well evident of that. “I want to be doing that, okay? I want to be kissing you out in public and telling literal fucking strangers that you’re my girl, that that’s my baby, and to fuck off when they give us odd looks...alright?” He was so heated by the end of his little rant, he took a step away from her, feeling another fresh wave of embarrassment. Instead of taking back what he said, though, he just stood his ground and waited for her to hopefully be okay with his declarations.

"I'll leave if you want me to... we can talk more tomorrow." Val to Luca
This was probably the most vulnerable anyone outside of his family had seen him. Luca was completely aware of his red rimmed eyes - he could feel them burning for nearly half an hour now. He knew Val could see him shaking. After all, she had found him and tight in an embrace with his mom, nearly losing all his shit because he was finally too overwhelmed with emotion. He wasn’t sure he had ever felt a pain like this before, nor was he sure he had shared this vulnerability with anyone either.
“I don’t want you to leave.” His voice was hoarse as he shook his head. Admitting weakness was not something Luca was accustomed to, but he’d learn to accept things as they were if it was for Valentina. He was ready to turn his life upside down if it meant he could happily exist with both Val and the child they produced.
“I-I’m sorry I overreacted.” His gaze was cast downwards in shame. He didn’t want to address the behavior that had led to this moment, but he knew it was necessary in order for them to grow. Luca knew he had to be the bigger person. “I know it’s such a turn off.” Luca knew his grin was tight lipped, but he also knew the joke would make an impact.
“But I want to talk about this...” Luca continued. He swallowed hard as he came to this realization. It was a painful reality to face, but he knew he had to do it. “I like you. And I know that might be inappropriate - but I don’t care. I want to know you better.” He wrung his hands anxiously, trying to focus on anything but her. “I want to make this work.” He insisted, his voice softy. “I love you and I want to make you happy...”

where things went wrong
“Voila!” Valentina sang, placing down a plate of random appetizers down on the the table they were sharing.  The two of them had been sharing a smoke for the better part of the past hour and when he stopped to roll another paper, he asked if she’d mind getting them goodies.  His grin was wide when she delivered beyond his expectations.
This wasn’t how Luca normally spent large gatherings.  Typically, he aggressively hit his pen in the bathroom or at the side of whichever house until he was pleasantly high to the point where he could block out the rest of his surroundings.  Then, like the introverted piece of shit he enjoyed being, he sat secluded somewhere on his phone until he needed to smoke again or until he could respectfully excuse himself from the function and go home.  Or to his girlfriend’s.  Or his friend’s.  Or literally anywhere else.
It wasn’t that he didn’t enjoy spending time with his family, because he did.  He also had no beef with their close family friends, or even the more extended parts of their family.  He loved them, too.  Luca just found it very difficult to be himself, or comfortable at least, when he was around people that didn’t know him too well.   Most people thought that made him “edgy”, but in reality he was just shy.  He had no malicious intent with his actions.  It was just very difficult to have a relatively meaningful relationship with so many people; especially people you had no choice in being around.
Valentina Harding was just beautiful. And, beyond that, Luca found he relatively easy to be around.  She wasn’t low maintenance by any standard, but it was easy for the two of them to find a common ground.  He knew he could smile around her.  So when their parents practically insinuated they go seclude themselves and procreate before he had the chance to get blazed,  he actually considered it.  If he hadn’t just broken up with his girlfriend, he probably would have resisted.  But to spend uninterrupted, one-on-one time with Val? It was worth the possible grievances.
Luca found himself smiling lazily back at her as she sat back down beside him, offering a blunt which she graciously accepted.  Their parents were nowhere to be seen.  “So?” She asked, raising a brow, “What happened with you and Hannah?”
Even though he didn’t want to, he found himself frowning.  “Oh…a bunch of things, I guess.  We had been having issues for months now.  Things kinda went south ever since we had that pregnancy scare back in September.” Val blinked in surprised; not many people knew his relationship went through that.  Luca smiled grimly.  “She wasn’t a fan of how I responded.”
He assumed Val was trying to keep the mood lighthearted when she snickered.  He wasn’t offended.  “That bad?” She asked.
Luca shrugged.  He found it easy now to keep his expression even.  “Well, she hadn’t led in with that she wasn’t sure.  She just told me that she was pregnant.” He explained.  “And I had told her that was great news.”
His words threw Val for a loop and he could see it.  He couldn’t refrain himself from chuckling.  “What?”
“It wasn’t bad news.  It was just…it was unexpected news.” Luca was staring straight ahead now, knowing it was going to bother him to try watching her expression.  He didn’t need the judgment.  It would probably make him all anxious and annoyed and he was in a relatively okay mood.
Luckily, Val’s voice didn’t sound judgmental.  She appeared to be intrigued.  He could feel her weighted gaze on him.  “Wait…you would’ve been happy? If she was pregnant? Am I hearing this right?” He couldn’t decipher her tone.
Luca sighed.  He was so relaxed from his high that he didn’t need much contemplating before he continued.  “I always wanted kids.  I always wanted to be a dad and just to create bonds and memories with little humans with the girl I loved.  Yeah, the timing wasn’t ideal, but so what?  The situation wasn’t not ideal either.” Luca kept his tone low, nor did he glance back at Val.   He could still feel the meaning behind her silence.  “What”?” He asked defensively.  “How come girls can say that but a guy can’t?”
“No, no…” It was the feeling of her hand on his shoulder that prompted him to turn towards her. Her eyes were alight with wonder.  “It’s just…it’s interesting, hearing a guy this.  I didn’t think boys wanted families so young.”
“A few years ago, I heard my dad tell my sisters the stories of when he was a first time father and he and my mom were expecting Gia and ever since then…the idea kinda stuck with me.” Luca admitted, accepting back the now half-burned blunt.  He could feel Val’s eyes on him and if he were sober, he probably would be bright red.  Instead, he just shrugged.  He took his time on taking his hits before he responded.  “And sure, that might be a bit feminine of me, but since then I’ve been low-key dreaming of the moment where I knew I was a dad, like my own, and that I knew I had the girl who trusted me enough to make me one.”
It was a few moments before Val decided to speak.   “You know, if you perfect that little speech any more, you’re going to have many women ready to be dropping their panties for you.” She chuckled.   Luca watched as her face shifted into multiple different expressions before she decided how she fell about his words.  He couldn’t help but grin in response.
He knew his answer was one to confuse many women, but it was nothing short of the truth.  Anyone who paid attention to him and his actions would know that he naturally gravitated towards children.  That, out of his entire adult extended family, he usually focused on what his Uncle Scotty said the most.  It was hard for Luca to deny that he actually was looking forward to experiencing a pregnancy he had caused for the first time.
Valentina, however, just took a long sip of her Diet Coke before she accepted back his offering.  He could tell that there was more she wanted to say and maybe she could tell there was less he wished he said, but she just smiled at him carelessly if that hadn’t been the case.  And, in turn, he grinned back lopsidedly at her as if he didn’t reveal one of his deepest secrets.
