He was born in Stuckey, Florida but now lives and works in Tulsa, Oklahoma. . Linzy’s work often explores themes of community, socialization, family, the church, sexuality and homosexuality through performance, music, video, and any other medium he can get his hands on. He is most well known for one series of politically charged videos that satirize the conventions of the television soap opera. . From Art21: “Linzy’s theatrical works challenge ideas of gender while embracing a wide range of pop cultural forms such as soap operas, drag performances, etc... He has developed nearly 30 characters based on stereotypical Hollywood figures and often performs them himself. Whether or not he physically portrays the character, he always voices it, often distorting his voices’ natural sound, a practice that evolved from his childhood lip-syncing hobby.” . Overall, Kalup Linzy is an extremely powerful creative with ideas that we could never imagine. In the past, he has worked with many different high-profile artists, celebrities, and fashion designers including Chloe Sevigny and Natasha Leone. Over the next week I am going to share my "Summer Series." A series I created during the summer of the pandemic. I still have a few pieces left from this collection. I love working in murals. Always jump at the chance to do so when I can. They are quite challenging for me physically but in the end I wouldn’t change a thing. This is the current mural @belladonnaartiste (my duo collab) are working on. It’s for the #GoldenMileProject in conjunction with @illuminatethearts and @paintthevoidproject where 12 murals and various art installations, and more deck out the JFK Promenade.
