"You have to stop thinking about the first game from Joel's perspective and instead think about it from Abby and the Fireflies'. You're not supposed to be on either side..."
FUCK OFF.
I understand Abby's perspective, I've even had defenders of TLOU2 admit that. Just because Abby and the Fireflies go through mental gymnastics to make themselves out to be the good guys doesn't mean they're equally shitty as everyone else. This is a terrorist organization that will bomb civilians in order to save their own asses, exploit children as child soldiers, tell their members to do all kinds of fucked up shit under the pretense of "it'll be worth it," insult civilians who don't rise up against FEDRA, expect QZ's they've "liberated" to be their army to march on other QZs, caused other QZ's to fall to the Infected, worked with groups who have been called even worse fascists than FEDRA and likely even more. These are the same fucks who wanted to kill Joel when he was unconscious after he had traveled across the country to bring them the one person with immunity to the CBI, and was only spared because Marlene, their leader and Ellie's supposed guardian, believed he would offer her absolution over sacrifcing Ellie to make the cure. TLoU2 even compares the Fireflies to the Serphite cult.
"But Joel doomed humanity by massacring the hospital, preventing them from making a cure."
A cure that flies in the face of real world medical knowledge, jumping to a last resort measure rather than any of the less severe options RL doctors have called him out on, performed by a guy who carries around his bachelors in biology but not any evidence of him bein an actual doctor (him being in charge of a cell of terrorists recruiting child soldiers, thoujgh, that is confirmed), and the operation was supposed to be carried out in a dirty hospital room before that was retconned (with the supposed "doctor" going from a darker skin tone to a rotunds, jolly-looking white guy on top of that), with no thought given to how they could mass produce the vaccine.
From a medical/scientific perspective, what the Fireflies were doing was bad medicine. It's that against Druckmann's word that it would have worked.
Likewise, the Fireflies did explain to Joel that the procedure would kill Ellie. Joel knew there was a very real threat to her life, and from a world legal perspective, this would protect Joel. There are laws that, in such circumstances, will protect an individual who has to take a life in order to prevent the loss of life or serious injury. Joel did it to save Ellie's life.
"But Joel took away Ellie's right to choose. She even says she would have sacrificed herself for her immunity to mean something."
Ellie was unconscious and unaware that she would die. The Fireflies would not even give Joel a last chance to talk with her, they were that eager to remove her brain.
Ellie was 14 at the time, a minor. Not someone who could give consent legally
Ellie has been shown suffering from survivor's guilt, something Joel notes is why she would go through with it. Meanwhile, the Fireflies are telling her she'll be a hero if she goes through with it and all those deaths will mean something (same argument why they decide to instantly go to that extreme) When it comes to recruiting child soldiers, telling them they'll be heroes is a push factor, why it's considered exploitation.. Telling a kid that by making a cure they'll be a hero, while the kid is suffering from guilt and unaware of the process being lethal, is beyond fucked.
Finally, moral greyness does not mean everyone is equally shit. The Fireflies have done far more harm than good, no matter what their stated goals are the actions they take undermine those same goals. It's kinda hard to say you oppose fascism when you enable another group's fascism, or that you're looking out for the people when you blow those same people up for your own safety. Actions speak louder than words.
The fact that we have people defending the Fireflies, saying Joel was a monster and that Abby was justified in torturing and killing him, that ABBY is the good guy, just because they think they're the good guys... it's a fucking joke.

25,000 Teachers Fired in West Bengal! Recruitment Scam Exposed
Tumblr media
What Happened?
Many West Bengal Teachers Impacted by Recruitment Scam Exposed. The Calcutta High Court has thrown a major wrench into the lives of over 25,000 teachers in West Bengal. The court found irregularities in the 2016 recruitment process for government-aided schools, leading to the cancellation of their appointments. These teachers, now deemed to be illegally hired, will have to return their salaries with interest and face unemployment.
teachers’ recruitment scam: 25000 candidates recruited ILLEGALLY, massive corruption at all levels, says CBI
The Controversy
The controversy stems from allegations of corruption in the 2016 recruitment process conducted by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC). Some teachers allegedly secured positions by submitting blank OMR sheets, bypassing proper selection procedures. This sparked outrage from qualified candidates who missed out due to the suspected irregularities.
Court’s Orders
Job Termination: The court ordered the termination of 25,753 teachers appointed through the flawed process.
Salary Repayment: These teachers must return their salaries drawn since joining, along with 12% interest, within four weeks. District magistrates are tasked with collecting the money.
Fresh Recruitment: The WBSSC must initiate a fresh and transparent recruitment process.
CBI Probe: The court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to further investigate the recruitment scam and submit a report within three months.
One Exception: In a rare humanitarian gesture, the court allowed Soma Das, a teacher undergoing cancer treatment, to retain her job.
The Fallout
This decision is a major blow to the Mamata Banerjee government. Several Trinamool Congress leaders, including the former education minister, are already jailed in connection with the recruitment scam. The opposition BJP has seized on the opportunity to criticize the government, claiming it exposes their corruption.
The Legal Battleground
The West Bengal government has indicated they will challenge the High Court order in the Supreme Court. The court has also ordered the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) to further probe the recruitment process and submit a report within three months. Additionally, the West Bengal School Service Commission must conduct a fresh recruitment drive.
A Deeper Look: A History of Recruitment Controversies
This isn’t the first time teacher recruitment in West Bengal has faced controversy. Last year, the High Court cancelled the appointments of 32,000 untrained primary teachers recruited through a flawed process. The judge who ordered the CBI probe in that case has since resigned and joined the BJP.
Uncertain Future for Teachers and Students
This situation leaves a lot of uncertainty. Thousands of teachers face losing their jobs, potentially impacting the education of countless students. The fresh recruitment process could take months, creating a gap in the education system. The ongoing legal battle adds another layer of complexity, with a final decision potentially taking a significant amount of time.teachers Recruitment Scam: Protesting SLST 2016 qualified teachers at under Gandhi statue
Impact beyond West Bengal
This case raises questions about the effectiveness of teacher recruitment processes across India. Ensuring fair and transparent procedures is crucial for attracting qualified educators and delivering quality education to students.
Looking Ahead: Potential Solutions
There are several paths forward. The Supreme Court’s decision will be crucial in determining the fate of the teachers. The West Bengal government needs to ensure a fair and transparent new recruitment process. Additionally, a national review of teacher recruitment practices could help prevent similar situations in the future.
This situation is a complex one, with far-reaching consequences. While the court’s decision aims to address corruption, it also creates significant hardship for the affected teachers. Finding a solution that balances accountability with fairness is vital to ensure the stability of the education system in West Bengal and beyond.

TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee appears before CBI in teacher recruitment scam
Tumblr media
Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation at its Kolkata office on Saturday morning in a case pertaining to alleged irregularities in the recruitment of primary teachers in West Bengal, reported PTI. Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the High Court had directed on April 13 the two central agencies to question Banerjee in the case. The order was challenged by the Trinamool Congress MP in the Supreme Court who said that the judge had expressed his dislike for him in an interview with ABP Ananda news channel. On April 17, the Supreme Court had stayed the order. On April 28, it ordered the High Court Chief Justice to reassign the case from Justice Gangopadhyay’s bench to some other bench. However, on Thursday, the High Court allowed the two agencies to question Banerjee. The case pertains to jobs being allegedly given to candidates in return for money instead of candidates who had qualified in the recruitment process in 2019. A dozen officials of the state education department, including former minister Partha Chatterjee, have been arrested in the case. While the Central Bureau of Investigation is probing the criminal aspect of the scam, the Enforcement Directorate is looking into the money-trail involved in the alleged irregularities in the recruitment in schools.Banerjee, who...Read more Read the full article

WEST BENGAL SCHOOL JOB SCAM
The School Selection Commission (SSC) scam in West Bengal came to national limelight after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) unearthed Rs 21 crore 90 lakh in hard cash from Arpita Mukherjee’s residence. Arpita Mukherjee is believed to be a close confidante of Partha Chatterjee,a trusted lieutenant of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a former state education minister and the current minister of commerce and industries. He is under arrest, as is Mukherjee. The matter is being probed by ED as well as the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI).
After the formation of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in the state in 2011, a serious breach in protocol was noticed in the Regional Level Selection Test (RLST) of 2012 -- a teacher recruitment process, when ranks, according to the combined merit panel, were jumped and lower ranked candidates were recruited as teachers. Many candidates who were at the receiving end of the selection board's “irregularity” knocked on the doors of the court. As of now, related litigations are still pending in Supreme Court.
In the upper primary section, during the start of the recruitment process, many cases were filed alleging that non-trained candidates got a preference for jobs and many out-of-turn candidates were given appointments. On December 11, 2019, the Calcutta High Court, in view of the malpractices, ordered cancellation of the merit list and a halt to the recruitment process.
However, after the recruitment process restarted in 2016, things did not change as various lowly placed candidates were placed on the merit list and were recruited anyway.
The non-teaching staff recruitment panel started the process of filling up forms from August 10 to 31, 2016. On May 4, 2019, the SSC intimated the candidates that the recruitment process was over. Interestingly, after this announcement was made, hundreds of off-panel candidates were hired. At first 25, then 542 people’s salaries were terminated by the Calcutta HC after it found large-scale irregularities in the recruitment process. The last SSC teachers’ recruitment -- SLST for classes 9 and 10 -- was held on November 27, 2016 and the SLST for classes 11 and 12,  was held on December 4, 2016. The Upper Primary Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) exam was last held on August 16, 2015. However, since then, the teacher recruitment process for upper primary school has been stopped in the state.
It was alleged that during the entire recruitment process, a section of the would-be teachers used to pay hefty sums to the TMC leadership, which used to be channelised to Partha Chatterjee, the then Education Minister.
The Calcutta High Court constituted a Committee that got wide evidence of irregularities and ordered removal of both Ganguly and Manik Bhattacharya from the post of the Chairman of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and the West Bengal Primary Teaching Council, respectively. It is alleged that during the pandemic-induced lockdown, when everything came to a standstill, several candidates gave ‘cut money’, which was channelised to then education minister Partha Chatterjee, and they were recruited illegally.
In many cases, the academic scores of the undeserving candidates allegedly in lieu of money were hiked by the SSC authority. At the same time, many deserving candidates, who got more than the cut-off marks, were rejected ostensibly because the online submission of their documents was rejected.
West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, who is currently in the custody of the Enforcement Director (ED) in connection with the recruitment of teachers and staff in government-aided schools, can find himself in more trouble with the central agency claiming to find his involvement in alleged irregularities in appointment of teachers through Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in 2014. The Calcutta High Court had ordered a CBI probe into the 2014 Primary Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and dismissed 269 people who were recruited through the test. Chatterjee was then the state education minister. The seizure list of recoveries from Chatterjee’s house in Naktala indicates his involvement in the TET corruption too, said an ED official Meanwhile, Chatterjee’s official car, used by him for over 15 years, was deposited in the state Assembly. Chatterjee, also secretary general of the ruling Trinamool Congress, was allotted the car and a driver by the Assembly as the Leader of the Opposition in 2006.Proceeds worth over Rs 100 crore generated from the West Bengal SSC teachers' recruitment scam belong to Bengal's former education minister Partha Chatterjee, confirmed the adjudicating authority of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act at a special PMLA court in New Delhi on Wednesday. The adjudicating authority of the PMLA confirmed the findings of the Enforcement Directorate which found that the proceeds of crime around Rs 100 crore belong to Partha Chatterjee. The unaccounted money was found five days after the agency seized more than Rs 21 crore in cash, besides jewellery and foreign exchange from another flat of Arpita Mukherjee girlfried of ex education minister Partha chattargee, who was also arrested on July 23.The CBI, as directed by the Calcutta High Court, is looking into the alleged irregularities committed in the recruitment of Group-C and D staff as well as teachers in government-sponsored and aided schools on recommendations of the West Bengal School Service Commission. The ED is tracking the money trail in the scam. Subsequently, the central agency informed the court that they had found manipulation in the OMR sheets of 3,481 group C candidates, 2,823 group D candidates, 952 class IX-X assistant teacher candidates and 907 class XI-XII assistant teacher candidates. This included empanelled and waitlisted candidates and those who were neither empanelled nor waitlisted.
Justice Gangopadhyay had in a September 2022 order called upon appointed persons involved in illegal means to voluntarily resign to avoid stricter punishment.“Those persons know it very well that they have got service as a result of illegality and corruption… This court will expect that these persons will resign by 9th November, 2022 and if they do resign their matter will come to an end… This is an opportunity which is being given to those candidates who have got appointments illegally and those who will think rightly and resign will be treated as persons who are regretful for their acts but the persons who would not resign will be treated by this court very strictly,” Justice Gangopadhyay had written.
The court has ordered fresh counselling for recruitment in the vacant positions. While those in the waitlist will be called for such counselling, the waitlisted candidates whose OMR sheets have been found to be manipulated are not eligible.

Bengal SSC scam: High court hears challenge petition, but fate of 803 teachers undecided
Division Bench reserves order; last week, judge asked that steps be taken to cancel appointments of 1,911 Group D school staff.
The West Bengal School Service Commission finds no reason to re-examine the Optical Marks Recognition (OMR) sheets -- whose digital records were seized from Ghaziabad by the CBI and sent to the Commission to ascertain recruitment fraud -- or question their authenticity since they were “identical replicas” of the original answer scripts which are now destroyed.
Tumblr media
The submission was made by the Commission before the Division Bench of Justices Subrata Talukdar and Supratim Bhattacharya of the Calcutta High Court which kept its order in reserve after concluding the hearing of challenge petitions moved before the court by the aggrieved secondary school teachers whose appointments are all set to be revoked on the basis of an SSC affidavit submitted in court.
Last week, following the Commission’s admission of its “fault”, Justice Abhijit Ganguly set a one-week deadline and directed the SSC to initiate the termination process of 803 currently-employed teachers of classes IX and X whose appointments were given back in 2017 by means of answer script result manipulation. The plea of these teachers to be added as a party to the case and be allowed to defend themselves in court was rejected by Justice Biswajit Basu. Challenging both orders, the litigants moved the Division Bench and argued their case before the judges on Monday.
Based on the same SSC affidavit, Justice Ganguly has already passed an order on Friday to take appropriate steps to cancel appointments of 1911 Group D staff in schools whose OMR sheet results were found tampered with. Both SSC and the state secondary education board have subsequently notified the termination. The appeal petition against that order could not be heard by the Division Bench on Monday since the Single Bench order was yet to be uploaded on the court’s Website.
In September last year the CBI, which is probing the SCC recruitment scam on the Calcutta High Court’s orders, had seized hard disks containing digital records of the 2017 TET exam from the Ghaziabad office of NYSA Communications Pvt Ltd, which was among the companies responsible for OMR sheet evaluation. Although the Commission has, by its own protocol, already destroyed the original OMR sheets of the candidates in question a year of the exams were conducted, the CBI argued in court that the OMR records seized from Ghaziabad vastly differed from the digital records recovered from the Commission’s office in Salt Lake, Kolkata and that a large number of candidates had their marks enhanced in the latter. The commission accepted its “mistake” under an oath before the court, identified 952 such candidates out of which 803 are employed for over five years now, and recommended that the appointments under question be cancelled.
Counsels for aggrieved teachers argued that the Commission based its conclusion on “secondary evidence” since the original documents have been destroyed which should bring the basis of comparison of the records under judicial scrutiny. The principles of natural justice and civil consequences of the job-losers must be kept in mind and the Commission should be directed not to proceed any further on its termination process under Rule 17 of the Commission’s Act till all stakeholders are heard by the court.
“Destruction of the original documents doesn’t make the evidence weak since they were mirror images of the original ones with no scope of human intervention. We have sufficient grounds to believe that mistakes were made,” Dr Sutanu Patra, appearing for the Commission submitted and added there was no scope of hearing the eliminated candidates as per SSC rules.
