15 nominations pour LA DÉESSE DES MOUCHES À FEU au Gala Québec Cinéma 2021

Une autre année pas comme les autres pour le Gala Québec Cinéma, alors que les salles ont longtemps été fermées, ce qui n’a pas empêché une vingtaine de longs métrages de fiction de prendre l’affiche.

Dans la catégorie Meilleur film, on retrouve quatre des films qui ont été le plus vus et appréciés, soit Le club Vinland, La déesse des mouches à feu, My Salinger Year et Nadia Butterly, ainsi que Souterrain, dont la sortie a été maintes fois reportée, mais qui sera le film d’ouverture des Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma cette semaine.

Alignement semblable dans la catégorie Meilleure réalisation, avec Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette (La déesse des mouches à feu), Sophie Dupuis (Souterrain), Philippe Falardeau (My Salinger Year) et Benoit Pilon (Le club Vinland), mais l’industrie a préféré Daniel Roby (Target Number One) à Pascal Plante (Nadia Butterly).

Newly elected Rideau-Rockcliffe Coun. Rawlson King says he's eager to get to work on the problems facing Overbrook, a high-needs, low-income neighbourhood in his ward.

According to unofficial results, King received 1,529 votes in Monday night's byelection — 18.36 per cent — to win over second-place finisher Jamie Kwong, who got 1,406 votes.

King had received endorsements from Somerset Coun. Catherine McKenney, Capital ward Coun. Shawn Menard, and unsuccessful 2018 mayoral candidate and former city councillor Clive Doucet.

On CBC Radio's Ottawa Morning, just hours after the byelection, King told host Robyn Bresnahan he's not worried about being pegged as an "NDP" councillor, like the politicians who offered him their support.

"I haven't had a party membership in some time. I'm an independent guy. But that doesn't mean that I can't be progressive and make cause with other progressives ... on a progressive platform that puts people and communities first, rather than big business and developer interests," he said.

"I ran very clearly on that. I wasn't ambiguous about that."

The film features excellent cinematographer by the great master Gregg Toland, and was directed by William Wyler. This is Bill’s fifth entry on the New York Times list of the 1,000 Best Films that is not on the TSPDT list of my list, after Dead End, Dodsworth, Funny Lady and The Letter. He has nine entries among my best 1,001 movies, but none of the five on the NY Times list.

JOUR 257 - Itinéraires de femmes hors des cases : 7 très beaux romans graphiques autobiographiques

La Différence invisible, Mademoiselle Caroline et Julie Dachez

La Différence invisible raconte la vie en apparence tout à fait ordinaire de Marguerite. 27 ans, elle travaille dans une grande entreprise, est intelligente, jolie, vit en couple et adore ses chats. Pourtant sa vie est, à de nombreux égards, très compliquée. Le bruit de l’open space, une soirée entre amis, un trajet inhabituel, des réactions inattendues, peuvent lui faire traverser des crises d’angoisse. Se pourrait-il qu’elle soit « autiste-asperger » ? À diffuser, pour aider à éduquer autour de ces enjeux et problématiques voire permettre à quelqu’un de se reconnaître ; mais aussi pour le message plus universel, formulé très joliment je trouve dans la dédicace de Julie Dachez : « Vous qui, par votre simple existence, transgressez les normes établies. (…) Votre différence ne fait pas partie du problème, mais de la solution. C’est un remède à notre société, malade de la normalité. »

La Parenthèse, Élodie Durand Pourquoi la narratrice, s’adressant à sa mère, a le sentiment d’avoir perdu quatre ans de sa vie ? C’est une histoire de maladie vécue de l’intérieur. Maladie physique affectant les facultés mentales et intellectuelles. Le dessin, et la bande-dessinée, prennent en charge la transcription de la perte de ces facultés et du rapport nouveau et étrange à la réalité qui en découle. C’est une histoire unique dans son fond et sa forme, qui laisse le sentiment qu’elle a failli ne jamais voir le jour pour de multiples raisons. Elle emmène le lecteur dans une introspection sur le fil du rasoir, et fait sentir des zones de frontières de la conscience d’une manière fine, authentique, dérangeante, cathartique. Un récit beau et poignant. 

C’est toi ma maman ? Alison Bechdel Alison Bechdel entreprend l’archéologie de sa relation à sa mère en puisant dans ses souvenirs d’enfance, ses rêves, sa vie au moment de l’écriture, ses lectures et ses séances d’analyse. Cette bande-dessinée m’a demandé plus de temps à lire que je ne l’avais anticipé. Elle fait partie de ces terreaux fertiles dont l’esprit du.de la lecteur.trice disposé s’empare comme s’il avait faim. On lui parle de ses vies émotionnelles et mentales et il sait qu’elles sont beaucoup trop compliquées pour qu’il les affronte tout seul. Toute personne ayant ses failles relationnelles et psychiques qu’il ou elle ne regarde que de biais, sans oser forcément y faire face, sans savoir exactement comment leur faire face, pourra, il me semble, se sentir compris et réconforté par cette lecture. C’est le type de bande-dessinée d’autofiction dont on sent qu’elle a ressorti d’une nécessité intérieure.

Hyperboles, Allie Brosh

Ces graphismes tordus, barrés, simplistes fous, je les avais déjà croisés sur le Web mais je n’avais pas plongé dans l’univers d’Allie Brosh. Oh que je suis contente de l’avoir fait avec le livre d’Hyperbole ! C’est délicieusement déglingué. Ça fait dans l’autobiographie décapée au sens de l’absurde et de l’auto-dérision.

La légèreté, Catherine Meurisse Le matin du 7 janvier 2015, Catherine Meurisse doit se rendre à Charlie Hebdo comme tous les jours depuis dix ans. Elle court pour rattraper son retard quand Luz l’appelle : ne monte pas, il y a une prise d’otage. Je me souviens avoir été frappée par l’expérience esthétique de l’album. Il y a une grande diversité graphique ; des éclats de couleurs somptueux. À travers les dessins de Catherine Meurisse, je me suis dit : c’est beau. Ce qui fait qu’on la comprend : que ce soit beau ne résout rien, ne répare rien d’un coup de baguette magique. Pourtant, on vit en la lisant quelque chose qui n’est pas le malheur ; et ce n’est pas anodin.

Changement d’adresse, Julie Doucet Album autobiographique écrit sous forme d’épisodes de journal. Chaque chapitre raconte une étape - désastreuse - de l’apprentissage des relations amoureuses par l’autrice tout juste “sortie du couvent”. La première fois minable ; la deuxième fois pas mieux ; le premier mec qu’elle veut quitter et qui vient tenter de se suicider chez elle la veille de ses examens. Sans parler de l’histoire d’amour en laquelle elle place tant d’espoirs et qui la fait déménager à New-York. Sur le fond du propos, ça fait mal et on grince des dents avec elle, on est frustré.es de son impuissance à faire évoluer certaines situations avec elle. Le tour de force c’est que son sens de l’expressivité et du détail font basculer les scènes glauques ou désespérantes dans l’absurde, le grotesque voire le comique.

Carnet de rêves, Théa Rojzman Le jour de son anniversaire, l’héroïne reçoit un carnet ayant appartenu à sa grand-mère… Pas n’importe quel carnet : celui dans lequel elle a noté ses rêves durant l’année 1936. C’est frustrant, un journal des rêves : c’est peut-être l’une des choses les plus intimes que l’on puisse raconter, et en même temps cela dit si peu sur la personne et sa vie. Les graphismes sont très riches et au service du ton : surréalisme, intime et esprit ludique se retrouvent. Les créatures stylisées sont au service des rêves ; les fonds colorés, abstraits, matière d’encre et de peinture, forment une matrice mouvante où s’épanche le courant intérieur ; et les personnages expressifs, un peu « cartoons », offrent une porte d’entrée accessible au sein des mondes intérieurs tourmentés.
