You know when you sketch something just to capture a Vibe and there's no thought beyond that. Yeah that's what happened here. I had a slow day at work and sketched Cathala doing whatever this pose is in whatever this outfit is, then decided I liked it so much I rendered it digitally so here we are 👍

The self-control it just took me to log onto WoW, change one (1) thing in Tarinne's TRP that I've been meaning to change (replace her old "hero title" of "the Bear of Ashenvale" with "the Bearheart"), and then log off without immediately sprinting to Valdrakken to start the nelf heritage quests because I have homework due tonight was fucking. lethal. More discipline than any US marine.

So if I had to guess, night elves are your favorite warcraft race? What are your thoughts on the other races?
What could have possibly given you that idea? :P
They certainly are, and honestly they’re probably among my favorite fantasy races period. When I first played Warcraft III as a too-young-to-be-playing-WC3-year old, I immediately picked them and have never gone back. They’ve meant a lot to me for a very long time.
But beyond them, my favorites would be trolls, orcs, worgen, and dwarves. If they gave us playable sethrak like they SHOULD HAVE (>:c) they’d be on that list too. And while I like the appearance of the dracthyr and think they’re gorgeously animated, their lore feels so restrictive to me… so I’m not as invested in them as I’d like. That really just comes down to me not dedicating the time to coming up with a story that intrigues me, though.
Anyway. I really enjoy the design of trolls in this game and their music slaps. The sheer variety of tribal cultures you can draw on for your characters is awesome. I just wish — well, like with almost all WoW races — the sexual dimorphism wasn’t… like that. Let troll ladies have big tusks too 😔 And, of course, I also wish Blizzard hadn’t gone so hard into the racism when designing trolls, but that’s what headcanon is for. Out here we fix that shit to the best of our ability.
Orcs I also just really enjoy the design of (again, sans the lame dimorphism), and their lore is really excellent, especially compared to most other orcs in fantasy. Blizzard did an amazing job writing a people you can genuinely sympathize and/or empathize with, and then sprinkling the ‘warmongering orcs’ archetype flavor on top. It maintains that part of the power fantasy that appeals to so many people, while still ultimately subverting the cliche and making the orcs feel like actual people.
I just like worgen because werewolves are cool :) I wish they had tails because they look so unbalanced without them, but whatever.
And I just really enjoy dwarves in any fantasy setting. You put a dwarf on screen and I’m happy. I don't play any dwarves, but I deeply enjoy watching them do their thing. They're like bugs to me.
And pandaren get an honorable mention because I like their vibe. But also because I’m a simple woman and I love fantasy SE Asian aesthetics. I know there’s appropriation issues, as with just about everything in fantasy, but they’re just so lovely. There's a reason Cathala's backstory is the way it is.

If you see me tagging stuff in the future as "black rain vibes" or something like, that's because I've decided "Black Rain" is Cathala and Tarinne's ship name now and I'm oh so normal about them, as you know. Thank you krch for the idea.
I've also been calling the fic I'm currently working on "Black Rain", but that's always been a cool placeholder until I come up with its real name. So to avoid confusion I'm not gonna call it that anymore. Might just say "post-bfa fic" or something idk.
But "Black Rain" is ALSO gonna be the name of a future fic so it's possible the vibes are actually of that fic (even though it's gonna be the fic about how they fell in love so ehhh almost the same thing)

Cathala has ridiculous anime hair that makes no sense and doesn't need to look a certain way, the Vibe just has to be right. But also if I can't get the exact shape right in this silhouette drawing I WILL cry.

I reworked the second half of Cathala's TRP when I copied it over from my old PC because it needed some polishing (and the "BfA and onwards" section was... inappropriately brief, given how central Teldrassil is to her character). Anyway I added a line that goes "The only place [after leaving Pandaria] she truly felt at home was with Tarinne -- the one person who saw her as she was, not who she used to be or could have been" and I swear to god that just. knocked me flat on my back.
Her parents and sister loved her dearly and when they first heard she was probably dead after the ship disappeared, they were devastated. So after she returned, they were obviously overjoyed. But she was a new person after spending decades on Pandaria, and that caused some friction when her family tried to interact with the old Cathala instead of the one who stood before them. But Tarinne, along with being the only night elf in the party that found her (therefore being the most relatable) and being the one to help her relearn Darnassian, etc. etc., well, she only knew her as she was. She never tried to turn her back into someone she wasn't. She also never got huffy at her for not being a night elf "correctly."
On the opposite side of things, due to some Bad Things that happened during the Third War, Tarinne had kind of sworn off making new close relationships ever since then. With the extended timeline of my AU, that would be somewhere around 20-25 years by the time of Mists (time is different for elves okay sjdnjdn). But since she felt this need to help Cathala at least become capable of interacting with her own race again, she slowly started thinking "hey it's kinda nice to hang out with you since you don't really talk much and we can just vibe" and then it was "well, sharing a personal anecdote or two to lighten the mood can't hurt..." and then "wow I haven't actually told anyone this much about myself in ages, normally I just brag about all the cool things I've done but I feel like we're actually connecting as people" and then "wait shit I think I'm in love with you."
And look at them now :) absolute bastards, but they're bastards in love.

Guys, look! Another one shot except I put real effort into it this time so it’s actually good! Conception of the idea to completion took me a month
My dad played Culling Voices by TOOL in the car a few weeks ago and I was all 👀👀👀 The vibe of this song just stuck with me (the way it builds, ugh) and I had to do something about it so I turned it into a one shot about Cathala. It’s about 2,000 words, which google says takes the average person around seven to eight minutes to read. Also heads up I guess for description of dealing with PTSD, in case anyone is super sensitive and can’t handle reading about someone else dealing with it. But it's not super super deep into it because it's like... fantasy. And there's fluff at the end to balance it out because gay :)
And I am absolutely titling it Imagined Interplay because even though most of the lyrics don’t really match my idea (Cathala doesn’t hear voices ncdjsn), THAT lyric definitely does.
Putting it below the cut for decency.
Cathala finished wrapping her hands and looked up at the punching bag hanging before her. Suspended from the ceiling’s center, it was the focal point of the dimly lit training room. Second only to Tarinne—who she heard shuffling downstairs—it was her favorite training partner, and it had the scars to show. Its dull leather, once a uniform blue, bore scatterings of mismatched canvas patches.
Most noteworthy was the crude portrait of the banshee queen Cathala had drunkenly carved into it some months before. The leather surrounding it was especially worn, and it heavily resembled the work of a child, with crossed out eyes and a cartoonish frown. She could have done better, but at the same time… she liked it the way it was.
A sea breeze drifted through the open window across from her, rustling the leaves of the various potted plants scattered around the room: futile attempts at combating the human architecture of their Stormwind home. Filling her lungs, she rolled her shoulders and began stretching her arms.
“We meet again, punching bag.”
At the sound of her voice Sing Sing looked up from where he rested on a high shelf. His scaly nose twitched.
“I’m not talking to you,” Cathala laughed. The little cloud serpent stared blankly at her before laying his head back down. She stepped towards the bag and threw an experimental punch. It barely moved.
“Oh, so Tarinne topped you off, huh? Let’s see how long that lasts.” She hit it again. The bag began to sway.
“Yeah, there we go.”
She shifted her weight to her back foot, dug her toes into the tatami mat, brought her hands up to her face, and let loose a few more punches before settling into a rhythm.
She had no specific routine in mind, nor did she really need this training at all. Today was usually her rest day in fact. But as much as she enjoyed helping Tarinne with her conservator’s work, if she had to spend one more minute making copies of that dry-ass compendium on the geology of ancient Northrend, she would go insane. The Stormwind library could certainly wait a bit longer before getting their copies.
She continued with her sets, changing her lead foot at regular intervals and feinting here and there to confuse her imaginary foe. The bag spun and swayed. Sing Sing watched it with curiosity, red-furred tail swaying in turn.
After a few sets she shifted her stance, shook out her wrists, and prepared for another. She raised her fists again.
And suddenly she was back on the streets of Darnassus, pleading into the smoking sky for her goddess’ mercy, or a hippogryph rider to take notice of her. Buildings collapsed in clouds of embers around her. The heat of the fire pressed on her skin. The-
She dug her fangs into her tongue, yanking her mind back to the present. “Not now, please,” she whispered through gritted teeth. She stepped back.
Why does it come back when I don’t even… The thought trailed off.
Exhaling through her mouth, she interlocked her fingers and stretched her arms again. She stared through the window, counting roof tiles, clouds, seagulls—anything—as the punching bag slowly came to rest. She was midway through identifying the smells of the city (a less than pleasant soup of ocean brine, food markets, and horse manure) when someone shouted on the street below. Her ears rose of their own accord as she listened in.
Something about a shipment of kale? Or ale? Wait, no, something about squid. The squid were demilitarizing? No, that wasn’t right-
Sing Sing chirped, confused, bringing her attention back to the room.
“I’m okay, buddy,” she said quietly. She focused again on the bag, then on a point in space behind it, and set a scene for herself. Acting out fights in her head kept solo training interesting as a novice at Tian Monastery, and decades later it still helped get her mind off things. Usually.
Worth a shot.
On a beach, or a grassy hilltop, in a dew-soaked forest grove, or perhaps on a barren mountainside—all were familiar battlegrounds—she stood facing a hooded figure, their face cast in the shadows of twin moons. An orc, perhaps? No. Something smaller, to fit the punching bag. Quel’dorei or human maybe. Not that it mattered who; they wanted her dead, and the feeling was mutual.
Cathala readied herself once more. The bag spun lazily, her gaze fixed on her imaginary opponent behind it. They lunged forward, and she struck… squarely on Sylvanas’ crudely rendered jaw.
The anxiety left sitting in her chest from the sudden flashback flared into anger.
Maybe it did matter who.
One, two, three, four more blows to the banshee’s neck and torso. The bag veered wildly to the side. Cathala countered with a roundhouse. Sylvanas stumbled, her effigy dutifully taking the punishment. She circled the bag as it wheeled away from her, always aiming for the portrait. An elbow strike for flavor, the odd feint to throw her enemy off-balance.
It had been a year since Sylvanas fled the mak’gora outside Orgrimmar, and longer still since Tyrande disappeared with the powers of the Night Warrior coursing through her. Still no news on either. ‘The war’s over! The war’s over!’ she remembered hearing in Stormwind’s streets. Were the humans really so quick to forget? To dismiss the innocent dead and move on?
The heavy thuds of her fists against leather steadily quickened.
Of course they would be. Of course their child king would be unwilling to risk the lives of his people to avenge ours. Of course-
She was torn out of her thoughts when her fist unexpectedly struck air, the momentum carrying her forward. She spun to face the punching bag as it swung in chaotic circles. Fury surged through her.
She threw her weight behind a redeeming blow and rolled under the bag as it smashed into the ceiling, rattling the walls. Sing Sing yelped in fear and dove off the shelf to scurry behind a pot.
I should have killed you myself on Broken Shore. I should have known.
She followed a back kick with another roundhouse.
And I should have told everyone to leave when… I should have…
She remembered the glow of the fire, the embers in her throat, the smoke in her eyes. But tried as she had, she could never remember how she got the coiling scar on her face and neck, nor when she was finally rescued.
She weaved to the side, deftly avoiding Sylvanas’ wicked blades as the bag swung past.
She was sure she and her sister Alarien had been walking through Darnassus when they felt the catapult impacts. But then again, maybe they were both at their parents’ house.
The ceiling creaked in protest of her pummeling blows.
How did she and Alarien get separated? What did they talk about in the hours before?
Her fists began sparking, greenish electricity leaping across her knuckles as she searched for even the memory of how her mother had done her hair, what her sister had worn, what song her father hummed while preparing their food that night. Or just what the city looked like before that corpse came.
Every frenzied strike charred the leather. The smell of ozone, carbon, and sweat filled her nostrils.
What was the last thing minn’da said to me?
A right hook to the jaw, a side kick to send her backwards.
Did you have to take the memory too?
Lightning surged through her arms. Jade hair clung to her sweat-drenched forehead. The bag, smoking, careened wildly around her. Her breath was ragged.
Why can’t I remember?
Her footwork grew unsteady as her mind became increasingly entangled in its own anguished web. The portrait was blackened beyond recognition. And still, hard leather was no substitute for the bones she longed to break, the creaking ceiling a poor imitation of the screams she dreamed of tearing from that wretched throat.
WHY CAN’T I REMEMBER?
Blinded by her thoughts, she swung wide and the bag slammed into her shoulder, spinning her around and nearly throwing her to the floor. She stumbled, muscled shoulders heaving and her breath frenzied. The bag swayed behind her.
Fangs bared as she turned, her voice was a deep, savage growl. “And why…” She slowly stepped back, each footfall that of a predator.
“WHY WON’T YOU JUST FUCKING DIE?!”
She leapt forward and unleashed a whirlwind of kicks that splintered leather and tore seams. Lightning smeared the edges of her vision. Sand sprayed across the floor. And with a final kick squarely in the bag’s center, its steel anchor tore free of the ceiling and it flew backwards, crashing into the opposite wall and dropping to the floor as sand and long-forgotten scraps of clothing spilled through a massive tear across its middle. Plants tumbled off shelves, clay pots shattering on the floorboards. Sing Sing shrieked from his hiding place and sprinted out of the room.
“Cathala?!” Tarinne’s voice rose from downstairs.
She stood panting, mind empty yet racing. The adrenaline, the hatred, the grief—all still rushed through her, but with nowhere to go they settled in her hands and left them shaking. She dropped to her knees.
As Tarinne rushed up the stairs, she stared at her bloodied knuckles, split despite her thick calluses. The pain had yet to register. Of the anxiety in her chest, however, she was well aware. It ground away at her ribs, reminding her this was no victory.
“Are you okay?” Tarinne said from the doorway behind her.
She nodded feebly.
She walked over and knelt down, resting a hand on her shoulder. Her voice soft with worry, “What happened?”
Cathala pressed her cheek to her hand. The warmth, the softness of her skin… tears caught in her throat as it nearly overwhelmed her.
“I was… I don’t know, it just… it just came back-“ Her voice broke and she cleared her throat to cover it.
Tarinne sighed quietly. Sitting down, she pulled her into a side hug and they sat in silence for a few minutes. Dust motes drifted in the orange sunlight slanting through the window, the plants on the sill quivering in the evening air. A cart rolled past. Sand continued to dribble out of the punching bag.
“Well…” Tarinne carefully broke the silence. “I can go make tea if you’d like.”
Sing Sing padded back into the room and began lapping at Cathala’s raw knuckles. Nudging him aside, she dropped onto her back and draped an arm over her eyes. “Sure.”
Tarinne didn’t move. Cathala waited, feeling her gentle gaze.
“Are you-“ She was cut off as Tarinne quickly kissed her exposed belly, and she couldn’t help but smile.
Tarinne sat back up. Her voice, filled with relief at her lightening mood, tugged at playfulness. “Hey, if it helps, the fact you can even do that is really hot.”
“Heh.”
The bells of the harbor sounded in the distance.
“But, uh… we should probably fix that before the landlady sees.”
Cathala lifted her head. Tarinne was pointing at the jagged hole in the ceiling, still dripping dust. She groaned and covered her eyes again.
“That’s on me, I’ll take care of it.”
She gripped Cathala’s hand where it laid on the floorboards. “No, you need to rest. Take the rest of the night off.”
She uncovered her face once more and met Tarinne’s eyes. A tender smile curved the jagged tattoos on her cheeks, and her lavender hair was currently rebelling against the ponytail to which she had so cruelly restrained it.
“Make me,” Cathala teased. The smile came even easier this time.
Tarinne raised an eyebrow and placed her other hand on Cathala’s thigh. “Those are dangerous words, babe.”
She chuckled and sat up. “But I suppose you’re right,” she said, rubbing her brow. It did nothing to ease her pounding head. But the aching in her chest was fading, if only for now.
“Can you stand?”
“Yes.”
“Come on,” she said, squeezing Cathala’s shoulder. “You’re very picky about your tea and I don’t wanna get in trouble for getting it wrong again.” She playfully smacked the side of her head and walked towards the door.
Cathala followed close behind, stopping in the doorway to look back at the split punching bag. Her lips and brow hardened.
“Cathala.” Tarinne’s hand was on her shoulder. “Tea.”
She turned and half-smiled. “Right.”

I'm not really sure which vibes I was going for with this, uh, thing. But it's got vibes nonetheless.
Context is that I decided I wanted both Cathala and Tarinne to have one big scar marking some important moment in their lives since I apparently really like drawing scars lmao and for the narrative parallels. So I came up with Tarinne getting captured as a soldier during the Third War and being like. flogged cause her captors were trying to get information out of her. Unclear on how she escaped just yet. But basically after that happened she was like "maybe this whole sentinel thing isn't entirely my favorite anymore" and became a mercenary or something idk

3 for Jaztul, 13 for Cathala nd Tarinna, and 19 for Everyone 👀 (or just everyone you Have a song for hgghfhg)
Under a cut YET AGAIN
3.) What does their voice sound like?
I want to find a voice claim for Jaztul at some point, but for now I can tell you he's got a bit of that surfer dude vibe. Literally just a Guy.
13.) What are their views on marriage?
UNFORTUNATELY we know very little about marriage/any equivalents in night elf society, I think there’s literally one (1) mention of it in a book somewhere nsbcjd But anyway. Cathala and Tarinne are not super dedicated to the idea honestly, they’re pretty happy keeping it casual from a legal standpoint. Like, they’re definitely in it till death do them part, but they don’t feel a need to go through the ceremony of it. Maybe they will later, but not at the moment. It just sounds like a lot of extra work on top of all the other shit they have to deal with on a daily basis jsdcjnd
19.) If they had a theme song, what would it be?
Tarinne and Ylrith are the only ones with a definite theme, but I wanted a song for as many of my ocs as I could muster, so these are songs I heavily associate with them:
CATHALA: Culling Voices by TOOL. The main reason I associate it with her so much is because of that one shot I did a while ago :P This is a case of the overall vibe fitting the character more than the lyrics do. Pretty sure this song is about schizophrenia or something(?) which does not apply to Cathala, HOWEVER the build up is simply exquisite. Effervescent even. And the "Judge, condemn, and banish any and everyone, without evidence, only the whispers from within" line works pretty well because, well, she's angry, and anger is an indiscriminate emotion. She knows she shouldn't, but she is still willing to hurt people only tangentially related to Sylvanas to get the revenge she wants, people who might have had nothing to do with Teldrassil. They don't even have to be associated with Sylvanas, they could just be standing in her way, even unknowingly, and she will go through them if she thinks she has to. And that kids is what we like to call a Big Issue. Also I like to imagine a cool sequence during the Good Part of the song where she's kicking and punching in time with every strum of the guitar because fuck yeah (not sure if "strum" is the best word there but you know what I mean).
CEDRYN: Toss a Coin to Your Witcher from The Witcher series. It's the song that inspired me to make him in the first place. It's great!! I love it!!! Never seen the show but regardless. This is definitely the type of song he likes to sing, and the sort of song he will eventually sing about Cathala and Tarinne after they meet. He thinks his friends are cool and wants to make sure everyone knows that :) And he's like: We're supposed to be keeping a low profile? Oh, no worries! I will simply sing about you louder so everyone is looking at me and not you in the shadowy corner of the tavern. What do you mean that won't work?
JAZTUL: Breezin’ by George Benson fits pretty well skbxjd Songs to sit in your Hawaiian shirt drinking piña coladas to. He's just a chill dude trying to live a chill life on the clusterfuck that is Azeroth.
NORA: I haven't talked much about Nora because I sorta just want to keep her contained in Black Rain for the time being, along with Sairann, but her general deal is that she's a half-human, half-high elf ranger and bounty hunter. She's also the token straight of my ocs. Anyway uh I think Too Much Is Never Enough by Bob Moses works well for her because... well I don't want to say too much but she needs a lot of money and she needs it bad okay.
TARINNE: Foggy Nights by goosetaf. Never has a lofi song given me this much serotonin. I can't put it into words but this song's melody is what would play in the background of the TV show with my ocs when she's first introduced and during important character scenes with her, y'know? And that's the best I can hope for when it comes to finding character themes.
YLRITH: Playground from Arcane. Literally so perfect for her, I lost my entire mind when I heard it for the first time. Even just the opening line "who told you what was down here" is GREAT because she's got this hidden lair in Stormwind behind a tavern or something that only people who know the Password can get into. "Tell me under the table, what do you seek?" and "make me an offer, what will it be?" are ALSO great because ohhohoo does she love making deals. And the "tell me your nightmares and fantasies," "stay for the night, I'll sell you a dream" parts add enough in the way of suggestiveness that it just brings it all together for my favorite Committer of Crimes and her sixteen girlfriends.
I can't think of anything for Rhoskan, Sairann, or Wazkal 💔 but to make up for it I'll plug my current favorite songs which are Ball and Chain by Xavier Rudd and Pigs, Sheep, and Wolves by Paul Simon.

I decided to make playlists for Cathala and Tarinne plus explanations for why I chose each song because I entered one of those ADHD fugue states and if I didn't finish this task I would die
Anyway here are the two links (they're youtube playlists because I don't have spotify. I would obviously recommend using an adblocker if you're just gonna watch on youtube) and the explanations for each song are below the cut :) Each playlist is about an hour long.
For Tarinne’s:
1. Foggy Nights: I consider this her theme so putting it first as a sort of intro only makes sense.
2. Here’s a Health to the Company: I think this works as an example of her general disposition. She’s a people person, and always a fan of singing these sorts of songs in taverns, on ships, or what have you. It also kind of feels like a sendoff to soldiers, which I imagine symbolizes her joining the Sentinel Army and quickly thereafter fighting in the Third War.
3. Wartime Prayers: Somewhat self-explanatory, this is symbolizing her seeing war for the first time, but I also included it because the last line transitions SO WELL into the next song.
4. The Hollow: This song is an intro to an album I've never heard so I don't know the context, but I really love it because it sounds like someone praying to their deity and like I mean c'mon. Elune. Tarinne's praying to Elune to guide her through the war. Do I need to elabo-
5. Wave Walker: KILL DEATH MAIM AHAHAHAHA
6. Isil Elun’falo: Just a super rad fan-made night elf song that's basically "wow we sure do love Elune" said in twenty different ways for four and a half minutes. But it ROCKS and I LOVE it.
7. Chewing Cotton Wool: This song is about losing a loved one (I did have to check but yeah that's what it is) and I use it to symbolize Tarinne losing her mom during the war. The last line, which includes the song's title, I especially like. It's referring to how morticians (apparently) put cotton gauze in a corpse's throat and mouth to keep body fluids in and make the face look more natural. So there's a fun fact for you.
8. See U Soon (Song for Dad): Just a short lofi piece to rest a bit, and it was also chosen because the title's in reference to Tarinne growing closer to her dad after losing her mom. She still visits him at his leathers and furs shop in Stormwind fairly often, especially after dangerous adventures. She just wants to make sure he knows she's alright ;-;
9. No Lullaby: Right back into it with a song that I use to represent Tarinne's general feeling of not being able to go home because it's not there anymore. She's felt like this since the end of the Third War, but it's especially strong since the whole Teldrassil thing. But I like the ending, "who said you're on your own," because it contrasts the repeating of "alone" in the rest of the song. And it's kinda like "hey, listen, you're not the only one who feels like she can't go home." I mean that's probably how basically every single night elf feels right now skxnks
10. The Moss: This song juxtaposes classic fairy tales with scientific facts about the world and I love it to BITS. I'm using it here to represent both Tarinne's love for storytelling but also her sort of... part-time historian/archaeologist/conservator career.
11. Rasputin: I just associate this song with her for some reason and this was the best place to put it.
12. Electric Feel: Moving on to focus more on Tarinne's relationship with Cathala now. This is an extremely great and somewhat 😏 song that I also included because the electricity theme is appropriate because Cathala has lightning powers and y'know it's from Tarinne's perspective or whatever.
13. Bedroom Hymns: You know why this is here.
14. Movement: I can't talk about love songs without talking about Hozier, okay. This is just a nice, slower song to relax a bit with.
15. Never Let Me Go: I have an entire goddamn music video in my head with Cathala and Tarinne for this song and it’s very dramatic and emotional and I had to include this song or I’d die. Basically just listen to near the end of this song when she's repeating the title over and over, and imagine the two of them seeing each other at opposite ends of a battlefield after the dust settles and they rush towards each other and fall to their knees holding on as tightly as they can because they got separated early on and each thought the other was dead. Then you'll know how I feel when I listen to this song.
16. Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control: First of all I love the title, and second of all there's a big section in the middle (1:49 to 2:47) that I like to interpret as the two of them grappling with the fact that they're not really quite sure who or what they're fighting for anymore. Their people, yeah, but there's so many alliances and semi-permanent enemies and only-on-every-other-thursday-enemies all intertwined and the world is just so very confusing and they're trying to make the best of it. Elf school didn’t include international, interracial politics in its curriculum. It did however include how to properly plant trees, and AP calculus (this is a joke).
17. In Dreams: I like to imagine this song is something the two of them would say to each other, as a way of saying “even when everything we know is gone, even when the world ends, I will still be by your side. And if I’m not, don’t fear, for I will find you.” It makes a nice note to end on :)
For Cathala’s:
1. muse: Just a nice lofi intro to get us into things :) I don't see this song as her theme, like I do with Tarinne and the first song in her playlist, but I like it quite a bit. I don't actually really have a theme for Cathala yet, I'm currently going with a version of Way of the Monk from WoW's OST but I'm still looking for something better.
2. Frogs Singing: I included this because it's about just appreciating nature, which works because night elf and also mindfulness and meditation is a whole thing.
3. Tongues: This is a song about feeling distant from your peers which is like Cathala's whole existence! She's this weird mix of two cultures and ultimately she feels out of place regardless of where she is or who she's with. Also the theme with not understanding what people are saying works because the poor woman had to learn Pandaren from scratch and that shit ain't easy. I think blizz said somewhere probably that Common is just a language that EVERYONE knows inherently because Video Game but that's bullshit in my opinion. I'll allow spells that let you understand foreign languages to an extent (Comprehend Languages from D&D lets you understand the LITERAL meaning only, which I like), but every culture and species in the universe knowing Common is silly if you think about it for more than two seconds.
4. Kung Fu Fighting: I'm legally required to include this song. Also I prefer the Kung Fu Panda version, I'm sorry.
5. Harder Better Faster Stronger: I vicariously experience having a great work ethic through Cathala and that's why this song is here because she has 999 Determination and does Too Many push-ups every day or something idk. I was gonna say "every morning" but I have a headcanon that elves only need to sleep every couple of days (sort of a nod to "elves don't need to sleep at all" from D&D, and to explain why NIGHT elves are active at all hours of the day) so that doesn't work.
6. What's Up Danger: This song is Cathala's whole Vibe. Almost zero threat assessment skills in this woman's brain. If it can be punched, she will punch it.
7. Eye for an Eye: Fairly self-explanatory, it's a song about wanting revenge so... yeah. Checked that box. It was this or The Vengeful One by Disturbed but ultimately The Vengeful One's religious symbolism probably makes it fit better as a Tyrande theme lol ("I'm the hand of god, I'm the dark messiah." Did you mean: the Night Warrior)
8. Survivor: Cathala's survived a lot of shit and this could kinda be her making fun of herself for it because "Gods, man! Don't I deserve a break!"
9. Ashes: Really the reason I include this song is the last chunk (2:42 to the end) because holy shit. Listen, if I was gonna include a song with fire motifs, it was gonna be a somber one like this.
10. Into the West: This can kinda represent Cathala just trying to fucking breathe and recover from Teldrassil. Also works because I dunno it has stuff to do with the elves in LotR, I haven't seen those movies in a while. It sounds nice and is melancholy so I included it.
11. Like Real People Do: Cathala loves Tarinne a lot you guys have I ever menti-
12. Into the Wild: Tarinne changed Cathala's world for the better and she's super fucking grateful she has her by her side. Kinda goes without saying but you know.
13. Chasing the Moon: I have a vague music video in my head for this of them falling in love and it's very cute so there's that. Also it's in this specific spot because hey she may be deeply traumatized but she's still got a fair number of things/people in her life that make her happy so :)
14. Follow My Girl: I've got a theme going in my head that while Tarinne is fairly certain of her place in the world, Cathala is still trying to find hers. She outlived all her connections on Pandaria because Elf Lifespans(tm) and the only members of her family still alive are distant relatives she never knew very well.
15. Wish That You Were Here: This works both to represent Cathala on Pandaria feeling super homesick, and for more recently after Teldrassil. Either way, it's a message to her parents and sister.
16. Mr. Fear: She does her damnedest to hide it but she's absolutely terrified something like Teldrassil's gonna happen again! That fear drives her to do everything in her power to protect who and what she can. As long as they're not Forsaken, cause she's still got her biases, that compassion even extends across faction lines. She never really got the whole Alliance/Horde thing anyway. Innocent people shouldn't have to die, regardless of who or what they are.
17. Ordinary Day: Not to get super out there but I think this song works as symbolizing Cathala really trying to hold on to her faith in Elune, but ultimately feeling pretty abandoned. I mean she can clearly see Elune's influence everywhere. But Elune sure ain't doing Cathala any favors as far as she can tell! It also ends the whole playlist on maybe a bit of an uncertain/open-ended note, because this "losing faith" aspect is a new thing with her and will definitely be something she continues to struggle with for a while. On a related note, I should say Tarinne is still very much devout but she gets what Cathala's feeling and doesn't force anything on her, and vice versa. And Cathala wouldn't become atheist, the night elves aren't monotheistic and she still worships all the other deities, it's just specifically Elune she's a little :/ on.

Not to brag about how awesome I am but I just wrote a BANGER of a first draft for a new one shot that I got the idea for literally this morning. Partially inspired by Culling Voices by TOOL because that song has great vibes imo. This one shot happens to have a similar concept to that first and very shitty one I did (didn’t realize until I was halfway through drafting lol), except it’s focusing on Cathala this time and will also be way better because I have Grown and Learned. I pretend the other one doesn’t exist 💔
My excuse for working on this instead of my main fic is that it’s practice for an amateur fic writer, e.g. me.

I have an overwhelming urge to draw Cathala drinking a Monster in this. I dunno, it’s just giving me that vibe.
