#can't tell you how badly i want those wings canon

Cods, I will gladly listen to any of your au headcanons!!!!
I'll go with the Solarshot au because I need to develop it more!
- the au starts a few months after season 2 ended and unlike canon, Jon's struggles and feelings did not magically disappear, they're the main driving force for his decision.
even with Ally defeated and the two worlds unmerged, Jon's life only seemed to get worse. He's been outcasted by the entire the tower and banned from playing football for using x-k, bullied at school, and with Jordan taking up his new role as Superboy beside their father, Jon found himself alone most days. He knows without powers he'll never been a top priority to his father and to his mother, he thinks she'll never truly see him the same again. All of those thoughts mixed with ones about believing his parents don't truly love him because he's no longer the "perfect" son they made him to be, he eventually gave up on Smallville and decided it was his time to leave because if Clark could leave when he was his age to find himself and be happier, why can't Jon?
because he knew for a fact his parents wouldn't let him leave even if he told them how miserable he is, Jon writes his family a very long letter explaining how he feels, why leaving is the only thing that feels right to do, and sticks to his bedroom door, then heads off with everything he might need in a dufflebag to the one place he ever felt at home, like he was somebody and not just "Superman's disappointment of a son".. Metropolis.
- in Metropolis, Jon accidentally gets tangled up in the huge mess that is the Titans (who's road trip ended up in Metropolis in the middle of trying to take down Brother Blood, who's transformed into a demonic dragon creature through absorbing Rachel's abilities. In the chaos, Jon 'sacrifices' himself to save a family who got caught up in the destruction and gets seriously injured. He gains consciousness once while the battle is going on to see that he's been dragged into a building and away from the battle, only able to see a blurry image of an animal near him before passing out again.
- the next time he wakes up and stays awake is in Titans Tower's infirmary and the first thing he sees is a green parrot perched on the bed's headboard, looking at him and flapping it's wings and squawking before flying out of the room. The parrot returns minutes later but on a adult man's shoulder.
Jonathan learns about the Titans and who they are as a superhero team while he stays in the infirmary to recover from injuries. He ends up telling Dick and Kory why he was in Metropolis in the first place, explaining his situation (without the Superman part of course) and asks if they know somewhere he can go. Dick and Kory's response is not only unrelated to his question but leaves him unable to speak, they ask him "You're kryptonian, aren't you?" then explain how they could tell by the blood tests they ran on him.
So this doesn't get too long, I'll wrap it up:
- Having to staying over a week at Titans Tower makes Jon realize he wants to join their team but still believes he's worthless without powers and that's what he tells the Titans, who (to his surprise) laugh and ask him "who told you that? you don't need powers to help people." then Dick and Tim reveal that they're both humans who use tech/weapons and combat training as their 'powers' and that Dick could train Jon.. if he wanted to join them, that is.
- if it wasn't obvious by reading the others, Gar stuck around Jon while he was in the infirmary. In the battle with Brother Blood, Beast Boy went to save that family Jon ended up saving but got distracted trying to protect himself from one of Blood's demons attempting to drain his blood but blames himself for Jon getting harmed so badly anyway. So he promised to not leave the "blonde guy" 's side until he recovered to hopefully make up for not being to protect him before.
If you wanna know anything more about this au like Jon as Solarshot and when Jon and Jordan eventually meet again after five years of being separated.
The fics I have planned for this au are one about that ^ Jon and Jordan meeting again and a future-ish one where Jon returns to Smallville but doesn't go alone, he brings his son along 馃槍
Hopefully you didn't mind the blabbing 馃槄

DCember Drawings for Week 1 :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hi hi, tis i
here鈥檚 my DCember drawings for this week. in order to like, make sure they all look like they go together i made sure i did line only drawings with gold as the main color. this is also finally my Ella tribute lol
also, i accidentally made a connection between Ella and Digi by giving ella and digi a bouquet of flowers ahahaha. for Stargiver i made his wings out of the stars to symbolize how the stars raise him up, and (as you may have noticed, some of the stars are broken or cracked) as the stars are broken he will fall.聽
the Eden drawing was supposed to look completely different, because i remember a time Eden on the tumblr had mentioned that her creator鈥檚 stories were dark and abstract, and i was going to do something similar in the drawing but it would鈥檝e looked too different so i went with what we have now :) more of a falling apart looking kind of drawing, i guess
hope you like it :D
Ali鈥檚 Notes: ZEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I AM LITERALLY SPEECHLESS RIGHT NOW HOLD ON
I have RUSHED IT SO FAST to this ask I鈥檝e been trying to get to it for so long because THESE HAVE HAD ME IN ABSOLUTE SHOCK FOR SO LONG... You put so much time and detail into every single one of these, I can鈥檛 believe you went all out for the cast YET AGAIN for DCember, I want to scream over all of them individually, even when I can鈥檛 BEGIN to tell you how hard these hit me and how beautiful it feels every second looking at them. I never, ever want to look away. I swear I spent a straight fifteen minutes just staring and trying to think it through or mentally process any of it at all
EVERY. PIECE OF THIS. Doesn鈥檛 matter if it has lesser detail like Kloud鈥檚, or insane detail like Ella鈥檚 or SG鈥檚. Just... Absolutely flawless. I鈥檓 so heartbroken circling back through them all, you don鈥檛 need intense expressions or dark imagery to convey how absolutely crushing some of these things are, it genuinely hurts every part of me to see them in pain like this sometimes and you are just an absolute master. I could go on about the emotional part for hours, but let鈥檚 just say it鈥檚 indescribable.
THESE THEMES!! The flowers for Digi, rain for Cloud, wings for SG, THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE. There鈥檚 nothing I can say, I鈥檓 absolutely speechless to how gorgeous and wonderful you are with all of this. Every piece if it is so eye catching and gorgeous in it鈥檚 own way, Ella鈥檚 is a masterpiece alone and it got me (and others, I can tell you that) staring for quite a while. You are the ultimate art god, and I can鈥檛 imagine how much time you spent on this because it turned out absolutely flawless. I wish I could say more to you, or use better words or just hug you in general, but I can鈥檛 tell you how hard this hit me or how many things I want to tell you about this piece. So just... Thank you. For the Ella tribute, and the cast, and redrawing everyone so many times despite likely having 398423 other things to do. I love and appreciate you so much.

If you don't mind me asking how do keep all of those characters different?
Hey, that's a great question!
(I do not mind.)
So for me, it's about the small things that make a character. I think a lot of this comes out of my background in theater. I have BA in theater and have been acting since I was about seven and my speech therapist (I had a stutter) realized that if I was pretending to be someone else I didn't stutter. (In retrospect I am pretty sure that was echolalia, but I digress.) They did actually teach us a lot about character work in getting that degree! (Something which is seriously lacking in a lot of American movie stars vs trained actors but that's a rant for another time.)
What it comes down to is the little things. That's what makes a character unique.
What I mean by that are the sort of everyday things that all people have about them, the things that we just do all the time without thinking about it. Not a stress reaction, not something that we only do when consumed by lust, fear, aggression, whatever.
So for example, from my fics, about the canon characters:
Mako has a sweet tooth, and he particularly loves coconut. Over the years and through my fics this is brought up numerous times. He also loads up his tea with milk and sugar and has a weakness for fruit tarts. He also reads the newspaper at every breakfast.
Wu does not curse. Instead, he says my gracious or my goodness or I never (he has cursed aloud in my fics exactly twice; once over caftans and once when his oldest daughter blew up his driveway). He also has an irrational dislike of caftans. And has absolutely perfect, gorgeous handwriting.
Bolin can't dance choreographed steps and does not hold his alcohol at all. He's also the hankie guy. (If you read my fics, you know what I mean.)
Lin's incredibly foul mouth and the way she enjoys it when people argue at the dinner table and how she gulps down every drink she has.
How both Baatars push up their glasses with their forefinger and thumb, which signals when they are uncomfortable and/or want to change the subject.
The Beifong Hand Flick, which was canon in the show itself and which has been passed down through the generations.
Su Beifong dominates every single conversation she has in all of my fics. Except for one. With Bolin. And yes, that was on purpose.
Huan disappears at the first sign of conflict and, once he leaves Zaofu, wears very loud and pretty much tasteless clothing.
Ikki hums when she eats something she really enjoys, blows air up through her bangs when she gets frustrated and is nearly always moving the air about her in one way or the other.
Opal narrows her eyes when she gets pissed. When Opal's eyes narrow, watch the fuck out.
Wei flirts with everybody. Male or female. Flirting is in his bones. It's when he isn't flirting - or flirting very badly - that we know something is wrong with him.
Wing blushes when he gets embarrassed or flustered and it travels all the way to his ears.
So this is what I mean! You just have to find those little things and bring them back in naturally. It goes for the OCs as well, of course. I mean. Nuo's whoosh whoosh. I rest my case.
And look, I do get that it is a lot of names and a lot of characters, especially the ones that one show up a handful of times. Which is why I need the whole character list. Which I need to finish. SOMEDAY. But that's a lot of how I keep them straight in my mind. Each of them has some small character thing - Jinpa the weaver has arthritis! Miwa the Majordomo's favorite color is blue and she has a crush on Qi! Lady Chun is a fucking fashion plate and elegant down to her bones! Sonam gargles butter tea and makes Baatar want to murder him! San loves apples! Everyone tells Poppy to shut up on the regular! - and that's how they don't all run into a blur for me. (Although I think they do for a lot of you reading it, lol.)

B2:S - Chapter 3
Much of this series will be about the differences and additions in the novel version, and how they contribute to my understanding of story canon. But there will be character appreciation, the odd theory and headcanon, and suchlike as well.
Here be Lujanne, Callum, Rayla, Ezran, Bait, and Soren goodness!
Spoilers for Book Two: Sky below.
Lujanne having excellent fitness for all her walking around the Moon Nexus, and she's so energetic that Callum has trouble keeping up with her! She seems like those active grandmas who almost never stop moving, who have a lifelong supply of endless stamina. It makes me wonder if Lujanne will need that level of fitness for some upcoming conflict.
Callum feeling really hungry over not eating grubs and then still deciding he'd rather be hungry. It makes me wonder all over again how Lujanne got to the point where she eats grubs, considering that other Moonshadow elves we know of back in the Silvergrove don't. I still love my hc that the giant leech ate all of Lujanne's moonberry bushes and she's taking her revenge. Whatever's going on there, Callum is definitely not at that point yet.
When Lujanne asks Callum how he knows she's real, he thinks to himself that he'd put up with just about anything from someone who was going to teach him magic. That's a great parallel and foreshadowing for Viren's student/master relationship with Aaravos! And it's telling that neither student gets exactly what they hoped to get. Lujanne doesn't actively teach Callum any spells, because she believes he can't learn Moon magic at all. Aaravos does offer Viren power, but it takes him to some very dark places - literally and figuratively - and the cost is terribly high.
Callum sees a moon shape among the ruins, and Lujanne explains that the Moonhenge layout is an intricate rune that uses the structures themselves as part of its symbols and power. That's apparently a thing even with ordinary Moonshadow villages like Hollow Wood in the east, which is the coolest idea I've seen in a while: city planning as magic runes!
Tumblr media
Yes, that's the same shape as the pendants Ethari made for himself and Runaan. Protection? Home? Feelsiness? A sense of safety and belongnig for all cycles and seasons?
Wonder what this Moonhenge rune stands for, then, and how much of this landscape is included in that rune. I bet it's more than we think!
Tumblr media
But it makes sense now, how toppling the stone pillars would disable the spell the druids would cast to connect with the Moon Nexus lake. Breaking the infrastructure of the Moonhenge breaks the rune.
There's a physical sensation involved with the visuals that Historia Viventem brings up! When that one ghostly druid walked through Callum, he felt icy cold. Like in ghost stories. I really wonder about what exactly Historia Viventem is doing when it activates. It shows truth, "what really happened here?", so it must have some kind of time-related element, maybe tied to how the moon always repeats the same cycles or something. But it also seems to draw on the spirits of any living people involved in the flashback, because Callum could physically feel that wispy shape passing through him. So very interesting!
Orrr... is that all wrong, and there's something else at work with this spell than time? Maybe the world beyond life and death can act as an imprint of the things that have happened in the living world, and the spell that Lujanne (and later Callum) casts taps into that place, with perfect recall. I'm looking really hard at the sentence that says "dozens of translucent elf ghosts" and "phantom Moonhenge" and "lost in their own world" here.
Lujanne says more here than in the show about the world beyond life and death, being her mysterious Moonshadow-mage self. She says that "beyond" and "between" might both apply to where this other plane of existence is, and she doesn't much care which. With all the relativity swirling around this place, and not much in the way of empiricism, it's sounding like perhaps multiple conflicting ideas might actually coexist in such a place, allowing more ideas to fit there than we might normally believe is possible. Which is a fascinating bit of worldbuilding. Basically, every headcanon anyone has ever had about the Moon Nexus could all be true at the same time, for all we know.
Oh oh oh, Callum coming in soft with a secret wish! He takes one look at the Moonhenge and immediately thinks of finding a way to see his mom again! Poor boy, my heart! I'd say that could be another interesting parallel with Viren, but then, who wouldn't hold that sentiment?
Oh my, is this another breath of life into Ye Olde Ley Lines headcanon? Lujanne mentioning the Nexuses again, so soon after talking about the runic design of the entire Moonhenge, makes me wonder if the six nexuses are in fact giant runes. On Earth, the places where ley lines cross are called nexuses, and there are those who believe those points got marked with ancient structures, like Stonehenge and many many others. If Xadia were crossed with magical lines which naturally formed nexus points where they met, and if powerful magical runes were built across those entire areas, well. That would be cool beans, fams. Can I smack a map of Xadia and release a spell like Luz Noceda does? Because ngl that is my first instinct here.
Lujanne has got to be missing some grandkids to spoil, right? The way she's always whipping out cake and ice cream for Callum, and she's so grandma-ish about it. Headcanon about her being Runaan's mom aside, she is canonically lonely and she's very sweet to Allen and Ellis and I think she's missing whatever family she once had in the past. She may never get to have that family back, so she's finding a new one among the humans who live nearby, and I think that's sweet. Found family isn't just for the young.
But Ellis is straight up gonna be her fave, I bet, because she didn't turn up her nose at Lujanne's illusion food!
Ezran and Bait have a lot more to their relationship than was visible in the show, and I'm so excited by it! Ez can tell by looking at Bait's colors that he's not truly jealous of Zym, even if he's really grumpy about the dragonling taking up his favorite human's time.
And Ez thinking a lot about his dad and the things he's taught him. They're soft leadership material, and I love that so much! "Pick your battles" and the importance of encouragement. Ahh, my heart. Ezran, you're going to be such a good king.
But wait a second: both times that Bait gets extra grumpy in Zym's first training session, Ezran has just mentioned something about flying. Guys, I think Bait wishes he could fly, really badly. And that's his biggest problem with Zym, and with Ezran teaching Zym to fly, instead of Bait who doesn't have wings so. Bait is so old that his secrets have secrets, and I'm really curious how flying fits into them now!
Rayla, Dramatic Assassin: "I need to patrol for dark forces." That's what Lujanne called the source of the purple wisps that found them. I wonder if that's an official term all Moonshadows know, or if Rayla is just taking her cue from a veteran Moon mage. And I wonder how far Rayla is falling into the apparent pattern of "one mage, one assassin", since she does spend a lot of her time patrolling without being asked.
When Callum tells Lujanne that he was bad at prince stuff, and she asks if he didn't give up and got good at those things anyway, it's an opportunity for Callum to embrace subverting his parents' expectations in favor of seeking his own path, which is a primary theme of the show. But Lujanne is a couple generations older than Callum, at the very least, and I have to wonder what her upbringing was like. Is her version of success the one she took? Was she bad at magic once too, but she persisted? She is very soft and doesn't want to kill anyone.
Maybe Lujanne had dreams of doing something else with her life, but she felt she had to pursue the destiny that others handed to her, so she studied magic as hard as she could, and she did get good at it, but using it to defend Xadia from humans is not what she wanted to do with her life. Whether there's a parallel between her and Ethari on that point, there's one between Callum and Ethari, I think. How much of your life are you willing to let others direct for you?
LISTEN I WAS DYING AT THE EAR BREAD SCENE OKAY
This is my new favorite Soren and Claudia moment ever. Soren loves him his bread, okay. Even as earplugs for Claudia's sleep ocarina tune. The fact that it's "super effective" makes me think of a Pokemon defense. The fact that he learned it at camp, where he also learned about Moonshadow Madness, is hilarious. Later on, Corvus doesn't know Soren by name, but I still love the idea of Corvus being a kind of Strider-esque camp instructor, filling the ears of his young charges with all kinds of useful tactics like ear bread for magic spell songs (which actually seemed to work as intended), and warnings about the enemy elves' blood-themed tactics (which may or may not come back around in BH)
I thought they were gonna go in a kind of deep direction when Soren still wanted his ear bread back, but then he just. Eats them. Just noms them. I love this kid. Give Soren all the bread!
