Phoebe: Cole.

My favorite part of this scene is not the apple peel conveniently forming the letter “C”. My favorite part is how Phoebe saying “Cole” completely disarms a 100 year old half demon to the point he begins failing upwards by falling in love ♥

Couples and "almost" couples that the writers wiped the floor with at one point.

Show: Charmed

Couple: Phoebe and Cole

Plot: Phoebe and Cole fell in love despite a somewhat dubious beginning, when Cole was actually a half-demon sent to kill her and her sisters. Their love brought out Cole's human side and the two got married, and for a while it really seemed like these two were going to be the second ultimate couple. Only no. Cole became the new source of evil, manipulating Phoebe into becoming the evil queen by his side, she eventually broke free from his grasp and along with her sisters, defeated Cole. Cole then later tried to win Phoebe's heart back, but that never happened. Until today, I didn't know there was such a thing as a 9th and 10th season in comic book form, but in it, Phoebe and Cole finally reconcile after years, Cole saves the life of Phoebe's husband Coop, and his body is possessed by his own father. The End.

Rating: They deserved better.

Opinion: without a doubt one of the most dynamic or rather the most dynamic relationship in Charmed. I've always liked Phoebe the best of the Halliwell sisters, though I suppose a lot of that was due to her looks and her dark potential. And Cole was interesting from beginning to end. It was interesting to watch their relationship from the beginning to the very bittersweet ending, but I wasn't the only one who felt wronged after the ending that the two didn't get a future together. They were passionate and in love and were determined to go to great lengths to protect the other. Their relationship is very much defined by the good and evil that runs through both of them, but they fought it, both of them. For a long time, it seemed like they were supposed to represent the fairy tale "love always wins." But no. In the end, Cole ended up trapped somewhere between worlds. Phoebe wasn't treating him very well towards the end, and we fans had to put up with a hastily conjured Coop at the end who had no chance to compete with a relationship built over several seasons with maybe five episodes.

I personally don't mind if the "couple" end up separated at the end, but we didn't get any adequate replacement, and what the writers spent so many seasons building up came to nothing. So many twists and turns, Cole is good, then bad, then good again, then bad again, then maybe good, and Cole is alive, dead again… And alive, and death… Yeah, a little toxic relationship… I think if she didn't end up with Cole, she should have ended up with Jason Dean, he was the boss. They met sometime in season five with enough room to build a relationship. Cupid wasn't bad, but he just came so late.

Best: Unfortunately, it's been years since I watched the show, so I don't remember much. But I do remember Cole fighting with himself not to hurt Phoebe, really trying to make it work, but he wasn't lucky or strong. I appreciate the moment when Phoebe realizes that for all her love for Cole, they won't have their happy ending.

Worst: Season 5. While it had some good moments, like Phoebe the Mermaid, it was also the season that completely buried those two.

Trivia: I appreciate that in one episode, Phoebe learns that her true love's name begins with the letter C. At that point, it's obviously supposed to be Cole. It's nice that the writers remembered this moment and named her new man with a C.

The other death from Charmed that gets me is Cole because I still believe that he was Phoebe's one true love even though she had to vanquish him along with her sisters when he was corrupted by the essence of The Source Of All Evil which ultimately led to the end of their love story. Are you alright!” The call was made as he made his way down the nearly cliff like hill into the canyon, it was lucky he was out there testing a new version of the war drone Martha, if he hadn’t been then he wouldn’t have been able to scare off the demon attacking who he assumed was a witch down below. He was silently cursing himself for not hitting the demon in a more vital spot.

He’d been careful to only use Cole’s form, though the soul was long gone from the body they shared. Belthazor knew that they would immediately vanquish him, should he reveal himself or the truth. It was tricky, but he managed. Phoebe was to be his queen, the Hollow granting him the Source’s power, and the Charmed Ones unknowingly helping him. It was all coming to fruition, the demon couldn’t be more pleased. Still, there was a soft spot for the witch that had ensnared his human half, enchanted him for so long. He’d grown attached to her, the last real sign of Cole’s influence. And it was one he didn’t have to deny or fight when she was swayed to his side, marrying him and then being revealed the truth. 

As they stood before his seer, the ceremony complete, he turned his attention to Phoebe, his (Cole’s) face, one of curiosity. ❝ Do you still want me in this form? My queen. ❞ The human form’s face broke out into a smile at the last, glad that he could truly call her such, that she had taken the mantle for real and was bearing him a child to carry on their powerful legacy. And the child of the Source and a Charmed one would be one with powers like nothing ever seen before. As they had already seen from the havoc it wreaked within her womb already. And he’d revealed himself to her, he’d shown her the truth before bringing her down there. They were still wed, they were expecting a child, he didn’t see her turning away from him anytime soon.

Extroverted Sensing(Se): Phoebe is so focused on what is happening in the now. When she comes into the show she is the only one of the sisters who follows witch craft with no risks even crossing her mind. Why? Because it is fun, she can try new experiences and all of them are focused on the here and now. Her and Piper want to meet guys No problem, here is a spell they can try out that will give Phoebe a fun fling. She has a premonition of the lottery numbers? Great! Time to buy a ticket and then go shopping for a new dress then flirt with guys at the bar. It bugs her to no end that her power is not active and tangible because she can’t kick ass in the moment, but instead of looking into all of the different ways in which she could have an impact with magic what does she do? Martial arts. Quick and most impactful in the moment. She is very in tune with her environment and is more prone to think on her feet than plan before, it takes Prue and Piper even Paige to get her to do so. She can be very reckless and is prone to making bold moves in a way that none of her other sisters do something which often serves them well when in difficult situations. She likes to have proof in front of her before acting and it takes her a minute to trust her intuition.

Introverted Feeling(Fi): This is a very easy function to see in Phoebe especially since there is such a large focus on her love life in the show. When her Grams dies, she needs time to deal with her emotions alone so she moves to New York. Another reason she goes? Because she really wants to find her Dad even though Piper and especially Prue really didn’t want her to look. She didn’t care that they didn’t trust Cole, she knew him, she loved him and that was enough.  Her morality is so strong and totally her own, we see what could have been in the episode where Phoebe “gets killed” in a future for using her powers to punish a murderer. It didn’t go along with the morals of being a witch but since her Fi is so strong she was the sister most prone to breaking that to do what she thought was right.

Extroverted Thinking(Te): When Phoebe finds a career she  is passionate about her Te is very clear. She keeps to deadlines (unless there is a very serious witch problem), is effective and gets the job done. And when being a witch gets in the way of this, it really gets to her. She also has a massive Te door slam with Cole, despite her feelings, he had done too much wrong and once he was out, he was out. She has the ability to give advice that is really quite blunt. She gives the bottom line to people, more gently in “Ask Phoebe” but with her sisters she can be almost rude with it.

Introverted Intuition(Ni): When Phoebe comes into the show Prue complains she has no sense of future thinking and this is true. She has no idea what she is going to do with her life but it is not a high Ne problem of having lots of ideas and having a hard time settling on one, she just has no clue.  She is also BIG into the one solution thing, she wants an active power? She does one thing to solve it and only that until one day she can just…levitate. But it is very clearly seen in her premonition of her getting married to Dex and she just follows it completely, it surprises her sisters because it was a bit full on but she doesn’t question it even though she knows her premonitions don’t tell the whole story.

Note: This is a re-type from my previous submission. I have re-watched the show and have a better understanding of cognitive functions now and Phoebe just doesn’t use Ne…at all. You want to see real Ne look at Paige because comparing the two Phoebe is just way to grounded, she is idealistic yes, but ESFP’s can be and Phoebe doesn’t make the connection, live in a world of ideas or think outside the box as Paige does. She doesn’t spend a lot or really any time looking at what could be there as well as what is, she just wants to believe the best in the people she loves. Phoebe is a colourful personality who is fun and idealistic so gets typed by most people(including myself in the past) as an ENFP, but when re-watching I was surprised when I saw…or didn’t see any real Ne in her.
