The House is obviously one of my favorite characters. Honestly, second after Nesta and leagues above Cassian so I have a softer headcanon for y’all.

As Cassian learns all the ways that Nesta Archeron is the most lovely person he’s ever met, Cassian starts to see how well the House takes care of her. It checks on her, brings her food, settles a blanket on her shoulder if she’s just fallen asleep reading. It cares for Nesta in a way that makes him jealous in the beginning but he starts to notice the similarities between Nesta and the House. After all it came from her. It’s imbued with the same magic that had previously taken space in her body, and he begins to wonder if the House is not just a part of Nesta as she is a part of it. A part she doesn’t realize takes care of her. He’s seen her at her lowest, when she feels worthless and self-punishing, but he’s never realized that maybe... this is Nesta’s love. A little bit of attitude and stubbornness maybe, but a whole lot of care. She smiles fondly at this house, talks to it like an old friend. It settles with her words, and maybe it opens the windows just so the wind can kiss at her skin. Because it loves her.

And despite the jealousy, the territorial feeling that always winds around his heart, because it should be him that professes and praises, Cassian finds himself being very thankful for this House. He starts leaving it books. Softly singing it songs of respect. How he could he not love something that loves Nesta so much? And you know, part of him thinks that loving the House is loving Nesta, too, in a way. That this is how she wants to be loved. Devotion and care and consistency. A friend and a home and a solid foundation.
