Vacation 2023
In August 2023, I planned to go on a short vacation to the Philippines by December, so the plan materialized.   As the days pass by, the excitement grows higher and higher. The night before my flight, it was the only time that I fixed my luggage with 20-kilo allowance. Filled with joy, I tried to wrap exciting gifts that my family would deeply adore. One of them is Ali Cafe, an instant…

Captain’s Log
Stardate 2024.03.05
Day 20
Today was a bit on the grumpy side for me.  The boys were a little scattered this morning, and I had to keep after them.  I think I was feeling a bit stressed as well; I was contacting research advisors about the prospect of getting my PhD—always a bit stressful.  I’m currently eyeing Bond University in Australia.  Now that we are homeschooling, we really have no limitations on where we go.
We’ll be taking an exploratory trip to the Philippines once my wife finishes her certification exam.  I’m going to start researching Butuan City and see what comes up.  Worst case scenario, we get to spend two weeks at the beach with nurturing, spiritually mature friends before coming back into our decision-making process.
In other news, I started my first photo promotion today.  I’m hoping it increases the traffic to my site and generates a bit of income.  We’ve been waiting for a clear day to film our science experiment, but we haven’t had one for about a week.  I think we’ll just have to go with murky skies.  The lighting will be even at least.
The boys just finished Acellus for the day.  Time to prep for lunch.

hi, I have a question!
so, I'm someone who's partially Filipino. my lola came over to the United States from the Philippines, and my mom was born here. through some unfortunate events, I have no contact with that side of my family, so I have no way to ask anyone...well anything really.
Basically, I was wondering if you guys had any advice for someone trying to reconnect with their Filipino heritage but has no family to do it with.
Hey there!
If you're looking for anything specific, it's good to know what part of the PH your mom's side comes from. I'm not sure if you have contact with your mom and lola and just have no contact with the extended family, or you have no contact with them as well.
So here's some options:
If you can, find out what part of the Philippines your family is from. For example, I'm from Quezon City but my Nanay's (mom's) side is from Butuan and my Tatay's (dad's) side is from Batangas.
From there you can do a bit of research or even tap into the many Filipino communities online (often on Facebook. I'm so sorry) to ask about that area. Those who are from there will be thrilled to share their own lived experiences about their hometowns.
Now if you can't get that info or are looking to connect to your Filipino heritage as a whole, it's always good to connect via your interests.
Are you into comics? Then check out Filipino komiks! Are you into cartoons? There aren't many, but there are a handful of Filipino cartoons, and SO SO MANY Filipino animators. Are you into sports? Check out Pinoys in those sports or even Pinoy sports like Kali Eskrima (or... Basketball, Filipinos love basketball). Are you into podcasts? Check out some Filipino podcasts (which you've done already 😉). Are you into Filipino music? Check out some awesome OPM (Original Pinoy Music) and the musicians behind them. Are you into fashion? Check out amazing Pinoy fashion, maybe even indigenous fashion by Filipino craftspeople. Are you into art? Follow Pinoy artists online! Are you into Youtubers and online personalities? Check out some Pinoy ones! Are you into Filipino food? Discover more and go to where Pinoys congregate for good Filipino food!
If there's anything specific you're interested in, I can shout out a few specific examples.
Ultimately, Pinoys are... Very Online. You'll find them pretty much everywhere on social media, and that opens up a ton of awesome resources for people. You can find a lot of Pinoy content on Youtube.
In many places there are also places Pinoys will congregate, often Churches or Filipino restaurants or Filipino stores or even little Manila communities, so you can visit those!
And if there's a Filipino festival somewhere near you, attend them! It'll be awesome for you to immerse yourself in the culture that way and meet people who'll be happy to welcome you.
Sorry if this was a long answer, but I hope it helps!

Poverty in Butuan City
Poverty is the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. Poverty is said to exist when people lack the means to satisfy their basic needs. In this context, the identification of poor people first requires a determination of what constitutes basic needs. This is an issue of the Philippines that they can’t resolve because poverty can be existing in the past to the new generation and the future. Even though many times the president is sitting and handling our Philippines country doesn't resolve the problem. Also, the Philippines are facing this issue because some of the issues of poverty are the inability to afford housing, malnutrition of the children, without family planning, lack of children, and parents having no work. And poverty in Butuan City there have also the most significant challenge facing this city and its citizen because this generation has many people There are many residents in our area who do not plan to get married, so my area is also affected because they will find a way to give a family member a job. There is an organization in the government how to solve their plans to develop their area and also prevent the increase of married people who are unemployed, first to control the increase in population in each barangay method they are giving out pills or condoms, twice to family planning as well it is not difficult for them to find what they need every day because they have a plan before they get married because in this generation it is expensive to buy so we should think before entering into a relationship make sure we have family planning. Butuan City has an organization that applies every type of work to provide and avoid poverty. That every head of the family can be given a job for the future of their family, this organization of the government will help him because there are jobs even if he is a senior high school graduate or a high school graduate, this is an organization to control the increase in poverty in our area or society. Because nowadays it is difficult to find a job some of the workplace have needed like NC II or even skills in Tesda for example Welding, automotive, waiter or waitress, and etc. Government was giving for the opportunity to give a job for decreasing the struggling for every family that why they open the hiring job for the every person or people needed a job. And lastly, poverty is the problem in our Philippines either Butuan City because some of the people live in our society has no work or not enough money to buy of needed in their family that's why president and mayor have a action this situation particular in Butuan City giving more learning for every person that being early marriage is not easy that's why we need plan before entering the marriage life, because we have a right plan to make a family your life has stable.

Nakabili kami ng CebPass last year. Para makatipid, imbes na direct flight to Siargao ay tinake namin yung byahe papuntang Butuan City sa Agusan del Norte.
Mula Butuan airport need mo mag van papuntang Surigao City sa halagang 400. It will take 2 and a half hours sa byahe.

DEVELOPING BREAKING NEWS: A Suspected Butuanon Loan Sharker attacking borrower's victim sparks outrage on camera in Agusan del Norte [#K5NewsFMExclusive]
Tumblr media
BUTUAN, AGUSAN DEL NORTE -- In a distressing incident spreadly captured like wildfires on social media, an unidentified Butuanon female suspect, described as wearing a light pink t-shirt & green pants, has been implicated in a violent act against a borrower in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. The incident took place at a local sari-sari store Monday (February 26th, 2024), causing an uproar among netizens online.
The graphic video, shared by a concerned individual named Ms. Jessim Oropo Dalen shown exclusively to 'K5 News FM', portrays the suspect confronting the borrower, who seems to be struggling to repay a loan either online or in-person via banks. The footage captures the suspect physically assaulting the victim in a public setting.
The clear description of the suspect, clad in a light pink t-shirt and green pants during this said incident, along with the violent nature of the assault, has unsettled the community and raised fears about the presence of loan sharks in the Agusan del Norte region. The risks rarely involved in illegal lending practices, which frequently involve coercion and aggression to ensure loan repayment on time, have been highlighted in this incident.
The case is being investigated by local authorities in Butuan, and they are incentivized for anyone who has relevant information to submit it thru the Butuan City Police Office (BCPO). The videos shared exclusively on Facebook (owned by Meta Platforms Inc.), have sparked widespread interest and criticism, leading to calls for justice for the victim and stricter measures against loan sharks. This also emphasizes the importance of financial literacy and responsible borrowing habits.
Efforts are underway to capture the suspect and ensure justice is later served as the investigation progresses, with a commitment to the safety and welfare of the community members being the top priority.

People vs. Bayron, G.R. No. 122732, 7 September 1999
Doctrine:
Adultery is committed by any married woman who shall have sexual intercourse with a man not her husband.
In the crime of Rape, the conduct of a woman immediately following the alleged assault is of utmost importance as it tends to establish the truth or falsity of her claim. If complainant had not been forced and intimidated into submitting to the lustful designs of accused-appellant, her natural reaction, as a married woman, would have been to conceal her illicit activity instead of denouncing it immediately as rape, for otherwise, her conduct would constitute adultery.
FACTS
Edgar Bayron, herein accused-appellant, was charged with rape by Susan Agcol, who was sleeping in her fruit and vegetable stall on the night in question. The prosecution presented evidence that the accused-appellant had entered the stall armed with a knife, cut the little finger of complainant’s left hand, and then proceeded to have sexual intercourse with her against her will. The medical examination of the victim showed positive findings of spermatozoa in her vaginal canal, indicating sexual contact preceded the examination.
Bayron admitted having sex with the complainant on January 16, 1994, but claimed it was with her consent. His story is that, at around 12:30 in the early morning of that day, he went to his stall in the public market of Langihan, Butuan City; that upon entering, he was surprised to find complainant sleeping there; that although he did not know her personally, he knew her to be one of the fruit and vegetable vendors in the market. He then went out and, after about two minutes, he went back inside the stall. He then took off his clothes even as the complainant did the same. They then engaged in sexual intercourse which lasted for about two minutes during which he reached climax and ejaculated. He could not tell whether the complainant had an orgasm as she did not make any reaction during their coitus.
After three days, Bayron surrendered to the police and was detained in the city jail. According to him, the complainant visited him and asked for money for her and her children's support because her husband had left them. Bayron agreed to give the money if the complainant dropped the case against him. An inmate testified that he saw the complainant talking with Bayron on a tricycle parked beside the jail warden's office, and the complainant appeared happy and even gave Bayron cigarettes.
The trial court found the accused-appellant guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the charge of rape and sentenced him to reclusion perpetua (life imprisonment without parole). Additionally, he was ordered to pay P50,000 as moral damages to the victim.
ISSUE/S
Whether the accused-appellant shall be liable for Adultery instead of rape.
RULING
The Court ruled in the NEGATIVE.
It is true the Court has sustained the defense of consensual sex in a number of rape cases. But, in those cases, evidence was presented, consisting of letters and the testimonies of witnesses, to corroborate the claim of the accused that the alleged rape was actually a sexual intercourse between consenting adults. Here, not only is there no evidence of this nature presented but, on the contrary, the evidence shows that the parties did not know each other before the alleged tryst on January 16, 1994. If the accused-appellant's claim were to be believed, within minutes of their meeting, he and the complainant simply engaged in sexual intercourse with not even nary a word said between them. We find this claim to be highly incredible and contrary to ordinary human behavior. No woman, much less a married one with three children, would just lie with a complete stranger.
Indeed, complainant’s conduct immediately after accused-appellant had left belie the latter’s claim that they had engaged in voluntary sexual intercourse. She ran outside the stall, still fastening her pants, to ask help from the people gathering on the street. She immediately reported the matter to the Langihan police and afterwards submitted to a physical examination at the Butuan City General Hospital at 9:00 that morning. The examining physician found not only spermatozoa in complainant’s vaginal canal but also a cut in the small finger of her left hand and hematoma on the right side of her neck, confirming complainant’s allegation that accused-appellant had forced her to have sexual intercourse with him.
These circumstances are consistent with the conduct of one who has just undergone a harrowing experience. As this Court has pointed out, the conduct of a woman immediately following the alleged assault is of utmost importance as it tends to establish the truth or falsity of her claim. If complainant had not been forced and intimidated into submitting to the lustful designs of accused-appellant, her natural reaction, as a married woman, would have been to conceal her illicit activity instead of denouncing it immediately as rape, for otherwise, her conduct would constitute adultery.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY
“17%”
When my mama was still pregnant with me‚ my mom and dad shared a hellish life so they decided to split up. I was born without the presence of my dad. I was name after my mother’s dead husband. Samantha T. was my name after I was brought to life. A year after my mom gave birth to me‚ my dad showed himself again. He didn’t like my name especially my surname. He change my name to Hanie Joy and he also change my surname to Atil‚ his surname.
My name is Hanie Joy Malinao Atil. i'm 17 years old. i was born in pantukan and I currently live there. my parents‘ name are Ma. Theresa Malinao Trocio and Enocencio Igot atil. They don’t have the same surname because my mom is married to other man. Both of my parents came from cebu city so that makes me a cebuana too.
When i was 4 years old‚ my parents split up again. My mom and my half siblings live in the upper area of pantukan. While‚ my dad live somewhere in butuan. I didn’t had a happy moments as a child. All i remember are the traumatic moments in my life.
Since my mom is busy working to provide for us and my father not showing himself‚ I was force to learn things on my own. Like‚ learning how to write and read. Since i also don’t have friends to play with as a child‚ I developed a hobby of studying how to read. I was 6 years old when i started going to school. I spend my elementary days in Kingking Central Elementary School. Unlike other pupils‚ I didn’t have friends there so i often got bullied. In result‚ I was force to study alone at home because I didn’t have the courage to go to school even though my school is only few steps away from home. When I was in grade 1 my mom left me in the care of my tita‚ my father’s sibling so she could provide for me even though my father’s presence is absent. when I was in grade 4 I received an award because I maintained my grades high. It was the first time that my mom was able to visit me in my school. I finished my elementary life in 2017.
