Romantic Shipping Info for Bruce:

Thoughts:

Bruce is harder to ship with. His father emotionally and physically abused him. He witnessed his mother’s murder and both contributed to developing Dissociative Identity Disorder. All of that was before he was ever the Hulk. He tried to hide it. He’s an optimist at heart, but it’s buried under a lot of pain. So he complains, he’s sarcastic, and even funny. But he had to work to get to that level. He had to work to even express things beyond moments of anger. That, he’s always been good at that. Before Betty, he didn’t even know if he was capable of something that semi-worked romance-wise. And even there, he had issues with her father so... It’s never been easy with him.

I headcanon Bruce is demiromantic but the rest I have questions about. We know comics-wise he’s only ever been linked romantically to women and that was already a process. I think even if Bruce was interested romantically or sexually in any men he never would’ve been the right environment to pursue it. College? Competitive environment and Bruce was focused on achievement. And that aspect interfered when he was dating women. Working for the Army under Ross? Bruce was trying to convince the military on medical application of his work. He’s never truly felt comfortable with that atmosphere I honestly think it’s a miracle anything happened with Betty. Avengers? Uh, in the MCU Bruce is convinced he can’t have sex without Hulking out in The Incredible Hulk.

In the comics, we know he can because Betty was pregnant and thought Hulk would reject Banner’s child. So I am open to seeing how Bruce figures that out. If we stay within MCU, he would still be hesitant about having children even if he can have sex.And he honestly doesn’t think anyone will let him adopt a child.

Comics-wise we know Bruce is perfectly capable of having children but uh, yeah issues do crop up.

Anywho, what about WHO I ship Bruce with?

Open to it:

Betty- The Incredible Hulk’s Betty is part of MCU. I like that she was a fellow scientist in that. I even enjoy Liv Tyler’s take, but they didn’t give her much to do?So for her I’m trying to add a bit more Comics!Betty with headcanons, but I haven’t seen many Bettys in RP.

MCU-wise Bruce made sure Betty recieved her mother’s necklace. That’s it. He doesn’t see her after that and considered them broken up well before that.

Natasha R- I don’t buy how Age of Ultron sold it, but I can see potential. And it hurts my heart that Bruce swings a cradle when he says he doesn’t always get what we want in Avengers. It’s subtle and hints that Bruce had that dream. I ship this only if it’s messy and acknowledges some of how they deal with each other in MCU is at times troubling.

Maybe:

Tony Stark- Tony valuing both Bruce and Hulk is extremely important to them.MCU and comics they get each other. If Bruce were to ever try a romantic relationship with a man, this is the only one that would make some kind of sense to me.

Thor- I don’t really see romance here. Friendship chemistry? In Thor: Ragnarok? Definitely. And there was that one scene in Age of Ultron where he tries to praise Bruce but uh...not about battle, bro. I think Bruce needs more friends in general. Most of the people he knows are either from scientific work or connected to the Hulk.

That said, Thor actually understands scientific concepts because Asgard IS advanced. I get those posts are meant to be funny, but Thor isn’t just a Jock. And if Bruce were to connect romantically then hey, Bruce studies the universe and Thor has seen it. Thor has also always been kind to Bruce and appreciated Hulk’s talents.

Jarella- I honestly don’t know much about her besides the microverse part and that she loved both Bruce and Hulk. I’m open to it. I’d have to research more.

Caiera- I haven’t read comics!Green Scar hulk, but I am very intrigued by their children. Mostly, Skaar and his relationship with his father. So I’m open to learning more about that, but I haven’t seen Jarella or Caiera in RP land.
