Hello! Soooo long story incoming...
CW For homophobia and religion
So, for context, I am a 20 y.o autistic lesbian living in a small conservative and religious town, and I live with my parents and my teenage sister. My mom is very religious and homophobic. The type of homophobe to say that they would never hurt a gay person, but still thinks being gay is unnatural. She already knows I'm gay, but refuses to accept it. My dad just doesn't give a fuck about either helping me or being against me, so he is just very neutral.
Recently I was planning on leaving my home town to study on college, maybe in another state or at least in the capital city in my state. Partly because I want more oportunities but also because I want to leave my home, have my own space, and a little bit of privacy, without my mom's watchful eye judging me all the time. I didn't tell my parents about that last part tho, I just told them I wanted to go to college to certain places and they were trying to support me.
But my mom started to catch up to my plan and asked me if I just wanted to leave the town, and I was honest and I said yes. She asked me if it was because of my sexuality and I also said yes. She started to try to convince me that bad people from the internet made me go to the "wrong path" and that I just had to meet the right man. I was already so tired because we had these types of conversations for a 100 times already. I barely even argued with her because I didn't know what to say anymore.
The she started to cry, saying that she was suffering too much, how she probably did something wrong and this was all a punishment from God. When she started to realized I did not want to change and give a chance to men, no matter how much she tried to convince me, she started crying really hard and left. It was almost as if I died. Apparently not marrying a man and not wanting to have kids is that devastating to my mom to the point where I am basically dead for her. I feel guilty and horrible. I feel like I'm a mistake.
I just locked myself in the bathroom and cried. I had no idea what to do. I only have my girlfriend who lives in another state (who is trying to help me as much as she can, dispite not being able to do much outside of giving emotional support), only a single friend from high school and a few mutuals.
My mom will definitely not let me go to college somewhere else after this, or at least she won't help me financially. I am basically alone and also broke. I don't know how much longer I will be able to live in this house without becoming completely insane, so I still wanted to leave, but I am not sure if it's a good idea.
I am not sure what options I have... I would like to get help from more experienced queer people on that matter.
(Also, for more context, I don't live in the US, so I need general advice that doesn't apply only to people from the US)
If you’re comfortable lying, you can always try and go back on what you said, just so she will financially help you to move out.
I’m not sure what the options are in your country, but you could look into scholarships and other forms of financial aid from the university you want to go to. They may offer assistance with housing and payment so you can still go. You can also look into other universities that may offer that sort of thing.
You can see if any friends of yours are willing or able to help in any way. If you can stay with them temporarily while you find work to support yourself, that could at least get you out of the house.

Belated Fic Rec Event post!
Soooo... some of you may know that I was unfortunately not able to post my fic recs for the KC Fic Rec Event hosted by @klaroline-events due to my laptop dying and me needing to order a replacement battery/charging cord. So here are the fic recs for days 2-6! Lots of good fics ;)
Klaroline Fic Rec Event 2020 - Day 2 Sep 1st: All Human!AU Title: Colored You In (Links: FFN | AO3) Author: @lalainajanes (Links: FFN | AO3) Summary: AH-AU. Rebekah asks a favor that turns out to be kind of life changing (life ruining?) for Caroline. Living with a temporarily broke Kol is one thing. A really, really annoying thing. And then Klaus is suddenly always around, planted on her couch, drinking her wine and adding snarky commentary which Caroline DOES NOT appreciate. Mikaelson's and boundaries apparently did not mix. Warnings: none Status: Complete
Why you should read it: This has everything I love in a Klaroline fic: Caroline friendship with Rebekah and Enzo, Caroline/Kol bonding, Mikaelson sibling drama... and of course, Klaus secretly being trash for Caroline. It’s hilariously entertaining, especially when Caroline suspects SOMETHING is up and Kol keeps teasing her about it because he KNOWS, and Rebekah DOESN’T know what’s happening until she does, and the Mikaelson sibling dynamic is so entertaining and YOU WLL LOVE IT. I mean, in the first chapter, Rebekah bribes Caroline into letting Kol stay with her. That alone should set the tone for the entir story for you. Seriously, just read it already!
A favorite scene:
The box said 'Louboutin' so Caroline was on guard. When Rebekah had called yesterday and asked Caroline to meet her for drinks Caroline had agreed immediately. Work was hectic, she had fundraiser to oversee tomorrow, so a martini (or three) to wind down sounded like a good idea.
Beware of Greeks bearing gifts, or so the saying went.
"Do you need a kidney, or something? Because I love you, Bex. But I love gin too."
Klaroline Fic Rec Event 2020 - Day 3 Sep 2nd: Angst Title: all you need to grow inside my spine (Links: FFN | AO3) Author: @highgaarden (Links: FFN | AO3) Summary: Klaus watches, satisfied, and in that moment she realizes something terrible: that she is grateful for the blood in her mouth. The sooner they break this bond the better. / or, Klaus and Caroline try to bargain their way out of their soulmate bond, but discover that dealing with magic isn't quite as easy or liberating as snapping a neck. ONESHOT. Warnings: none Status: Complete
Why you should read it: You should read this for the writing alone. The lines just TUG at your very soul and if you didn’t know words could hurt, this does it. This story is a variation on the soulmates AU where Klaus and Caroline are NOT delighted by what they learn, and so they agree to try to break this bond. What I like about this is that it’s a story where, while Klaus may be intrigued by Caroline, he still chooses power over his soulmate. Or does he?
A favorite scene:
“I tried, so hard, to be good.” Caroline closes her eyes to the blood dripping down her forehead. “So freakin’ hard. I was on the bunny diet. I thought if I ever showed you who I was, my soulmate would run for the hills.”
“Aren’t you glad then that it’s me?”
Klaroline Fic Rec Event 2020 - Day 4 Sep 3rd: Fluff Title: The Sound of Settling (Link: AO3) Author: @galvanizedfriend / Yokan (Link: AO3) Summary: Klaus hates his job at Mikaelson & Sons. He hates wearing a suit. He also hates his brothers constantly butting into his life. Everything will be better once he gets his much desired transfer to the New York branch. Caroline Forbes is the owner of Mystic Café, and when Klaus accidentally wanders into her coffee shop, his whole perspective changes. [AH/Coffee Shop!AU where Klaus is a lawyer. Lots of Mikaelsons and some Carenzo friendship.] Warnings: none Status: Complete
Why you should read it: I love this story so much! It’s a variation of the coffee shop meet cute, and I love how @galvanizedfriend can take a simple setting like a coffee shop and making something beautiful out of it!!! All Klaus wants in life is to get away from his family, so he works himself to the bone in hopes of getting a transfer. One day he comes across Caroline’s coffee shop as he’s looking for his next coffee fix, but discovers reasons to keep coming back... and the best part about all this? This beautifully written story reminds us that sometimes, what we think we want is not what we truly want.
A favorite scene:
"Well, you haven't run for the hills. I think you turned out pretty ok, if you ask me." Caroline pushes up her seat and winks at him. "Duty calls."
Klaus is left in a state of absolute disbelief as she walks back to the counter. Thirty-two years of age and this might be the first time anyone claims he's turned out ok. His ex-girlfriend with a degree to validate her opinion would probably have some points to make.
He doesn't know if Caroline is completely crazy or if she genuinely sees something no other person ever did. Klaus is almost afraid of believing the latter.
Klaroline Fic Rec Event 2020 - Day 5 Sep 4th: Smut Title: Battle Lines (Links: FFN | AO3) Author: Jinxed-Wood (Links: FFN | AO3) Summary: Battle Lines [Dark Season 2 AU ] The little cheerleader had seemed the perfect candidate for Klaus's purposes, an outlier of the herd if you will, but as he tried to bend her to his will, it quickly became apparent she was not the pushover she had first appeared to be... Warnings: character deaths, dubious(?) consent, mentions of sexual assault and trauma Status: Incomplete
Why you should read it: This is a dark season 2 AU where morality is very, very gray. Klaus decides to use Caroline to spy on her friends. Caroline, on the other hand, is used to being underestimated, and she takes advantage of it to ensure her survival. In an interesting turn of events, Klaus’ actions result in Caroline getting what she deserves, which is better. However, since this fic is incomplete, I have no idea how it’s going to end! Also, tons and tons of smutty goodness!
A favorite scene:
He collapsed on top of her and waited for their thrum of their hearts to ease, stroking her hair absently as his mind turned over the future. Truth be told, Caroline's usefulness as a spy had been somewhat eroded as a result of his earlier than planned return to Mystic Falls, but he found her...diverting, and that was not a phrase he used for a lot of people. Perhaps he could convince her to make a more permanent arrangement?
But that meant he would have to to seduce her into his life as well as his bed, and what did he have to offer that Caroline Forbes would want?
Klaroline Fic Rec Event 2020 - Day 6 Sep 5th: Supernatural!AU (undine!Caroline and Originals!Mikaelsons) Title: Drown Me in Ash, Burn Me in Salt (links: FFN | AO3) Author: @cupcakemolotov (links: FFN | AO3) Summary: Cursed with legs by a witch as the gods were unmade, Caroline is a relic of ancient times. Bored and lonely, her interest is peaked by the newest predators in the world - vampires. And in particular, Klaus Mikaelson, with his monsters teeth and the wolf caged in his blood. Warnings: some blood and gore, nothing explicit Status: Complete
Why you should read it: If you’re looking for powerful Caroline and the Mikaelsons, this is it! This is a rather lengthy 14k-word one-shot, and one that I find myself turning to time and time again. @cupcakemolotov does an incredible job building worlds upon worlds, and this is no exception. I love that in this world, Caroline is older than the Mikaelsons (but not an Original), an ancient creature who finds amusement in this dysfunctional family and keeps them around because she can. I love her interactions with the Mikaelson siblings, of the way she seamlessly moves through the world on her own terms and no one else’s.
A favorite scene:
“So, you’re more of a siren?” Klaus asked thoughtfully, head tilting as he faced her with no fear.
Caroline sighed and disentangled herself from the chains and corpse. “What is it with humans and naming things?”
“Power,” Klaus murmured as she reached for his locks. “Dominion does not come easily, against the unnamed night terrors. Why are you helping us?”
“I’m bored,” Caroline told him, switching to Rebekah’s chains. “Your little vampire creations are amusing, even if you taste like the grave.”
Klaroline Fic Rec Event 2020 - Day 7 Sep 6th: Free for all! Title: A Pregnant Pause (Links: FFN | AO3) Author: @supremeuppityone (Links: FFN | AO3) Summary: Klaroline supernatural AU multi-chap. Pregnant and alone, Caroline meets a woman named Rebekah, and an unexpected friendship is formed. But then, her ridiculously attractive asshat of a brother starts inserting himself into their lives, causing all kinds of trouble. Despite being distracted by those dimples, she notices something seems a bit off about the Mikaelsons... Warnings: discussions on abortion Status: Incomplete
Why you should read it: It should go without saying that this is one of my FAVORITE Klaroline fics of all time. This features a clueless and pregnant human Caroline who finds herself entangled with the MIkaelson family. I absolutely adore the Caroline/Rebekah friendship that forms, the way Caroline wins over each of the Mikaelson siblings, and the way they find themselves drawn to her in turn. This story makes me laugh and cry, and I appreciate @supremeuppityone’s writing SO MUCH.
A favorite scene:
Clearing her throat, she told Rebekah, “You’ll figure it out. And I’ll help.”
She favored Caroline with a weak smile. “I thought I was supposed to be helping you.”
“So, we’ll help each other then.” Caroline laid back against one of the fluffy pillows on the chaise, a forearm over her eyes as she let out a soft groan.
So here we go! One epic belated post!

sorry guys i have no idea what the fuck i’m doing and none of this was proofread but i had fun and i guess that’s what counts
Orlo’s a recently turned vampire, it happened when he was at the front. He killed a soldier to survive and save others, but the idea that for the rest of his life he now had to purposefully hurt and drink from humans just to live made him feel sick, but the animal blood wasn’t helping and any blood from a dead person that the doctor gave him made him ACTUALLY sick.
He was terrified of taking any blood from someone bloodletting in case anyone saw, plus while it happened quite a bit bloodletting wasn’t common enough to sustain a person.
So he took to drinking as much animal blood as he could, although he had to drink what he assumed was MUCH more than if he’d just drink from a human.
To his shock Peter actually tried to help by offering to give him serfs.
He felt his stomach roll at the memory of his cruel, disgusting words. How the king had less compassion than a vampire he’d never know
He jumped at peter slapping him on the shoulder “They’re just serfs, it’s not like they can’t be replaced. And HEY, maybe you won’t be a virgin anymore!”
You’re a serf, you’ve heard rumors of count Orlo getting bitten by a vampire when he went to the front about a week ago but you took it as bizarre superstition.
Although you noticed he hasn’t left his room in a few days. When you saw him for the first time since the accident later that evening you were serving food and drink at one of peter’s stupid parties. You were shocked with how sick and pale he was, almost grey, and he wasn’t eating or drinking anything or talking to anyone.
You knew it was probably just from the shock of everything he’s been through and you KNEW it was just rumors and superstition but seeing him like that you couldn’t help but think, what if he is.
You noticed people ignoring him like they were afraid of him, not it the typical way they usually did. Even Peter was being less of a cunt to him. Catherine was the only one that would try and have a conversation with him but even she was a bit wary around him and he was just too out of it to really participate, although she DID actually looked concerned for him which is more than you could say for half of these assholes.
But you knew just because people were acting like he was a vampire didn’t mean he was, it just meant people were being stupid.....right?.
You weren’t best friends with marial but you got along well enough and she was friends with catherine. You pulled her aside before she could go back out.
“I know we can’t talk, I just have a question, does Catherine know what happened to Orlo?“
You were expecting her to roll her eyes and make fun of your “stupid crush” and make a rude comment about him as per usual. But you weren’t expecting her to look around to make sure no one was listening before talking in a hushed whisper.
“Look i don’t know for sure and i don’t know the details, BUT something did happen to him. I know you don’t believe in it but i’ve been around him more than you have these past few days and if there was ever evidence for a vampire, he’s it “
You stood there slack jawed while she quickly scurried away to serve drinks.
You walked around with your tray as people took drinks off of it. You tried to calm down and get your mind off of it but your eyes kept flicking back to Orlo.
You were always rather fond of him, he was sweet and kind and didn’t treat you less because of your position. He was probably the only person of status that would conversate with you. So you were upset thinking about the 0000.000.001% chance that he was a vampire, you didn’t want to think about how frightening it was for him or how much pain he’d be in.
You decided to walk over to Catherine and Orlo under the guise of offering them drinks.
Catherine gave a sad smile and took a glass. You didn’t talk to her very much but she was kind and she was currently looking at you like she knew exactly you were thinking.  Orlo politely declined a drink. Infact come to think of it you haven’t seen him eat or drink anything all night. NO he’s just in shock over killing someone.
You were cleaning up the last remnants of the party when you saw Catherine pull Marial aside. You tried to not pay attention or eavesdrop but you couldn’t help but notice a strange muffled sound coming from the box Catherine was holding and the disgusted look marial gave her. You quickly got back to cleaning, trying to look innocent.
“she’s gone”
You shot up and spun around to see marial standing behind you holding the box.
“what are you talking about“
“oh come on, we both knew you were listening, you’re not as sneaky as you think“
You blushed in embarrassment. “catherine saw me?!”
Before she could open her mouth to answer you, you were both startled what was ever in the box, it started shaking a little and now that it was closer you noticed there was a squeaking.
Before you could ask about it she was trotting off “sorry i REALLY have to take care of this“
You went after her.
She side eyed you as you caught up to her “you’ll get in trouble if you follow me“
You snorted at the statement. “when have you ever cared about getting in trouble“
She sighed and rolled her eyes.
“Soooo...what’s in-“
“Rabbit“
you scrunched your nose at her statement. “and were bringing it to someones apartments?“
She gave you an uneasy look. “Orlo’s apartments”
You tried to control the nerves bubbling up inside you. “Well i suppose it would be nice for him to have a pet, must get lonely for him”
Your friend stopped walking, turned to you with a hand on her hip, and gave a look of disbelief. “And WHY pray tell, would WE be bringing him a pet at midnight? HM?”
You chuckled nervously. “I mean what else could it be”
You held up a finger for her to stop. “AND even IF he is, WHICH HE ISN’T i’m sure they would find a better solution than little animals like bunnies”
You picked up pace before she could ask another question as she stood there for a few seconds gawking at you.
You two were waiting outside the door to be let in. You looked at the box again and felt terrible for the poor thing as it squeaked and scratched. It must be scary to be locked up in a tiny box like that. Your attention was pulled away from the box as the door opened for you.
“count Orlo is ready to see you“
You entered his apartments and it...was normal, nothing creepy, no dead animals, just.....typical Orlo, you sighed in relief and released a breath you didn’t even realize you were holding in.
Orlo opened his bedroom door and he temporarily froze, clearly not expecting you to be there.. Now that you were closer and in better light you were concerned with the fact that he REALLY looked sick.
“M-m-my a-apologies, i wasn’t expecting you,”
he gasped and threw his hands up “NOT-NOT THAT IT’S A BAD THING YOU’RE HEAR I JUST-“
GOD if he was a vampire he was probably the most timid vampire you’ve ever heard of.
Marial let out an exaggerated sigh and rolled her eyes before thrusting the box towards the poor man.
Orlo blushed, mouth gaping as his eyes flicked between you and the box. You went to ease his fears by taking it from marial and put it on his desk but before you could he grabbed it and clutched it to his chest.
“SORRY sorry it’s just...personal“
Your friend crossed her arms, clearly frustrated with him. “she knows it’s a rabbit, lobcock“ she turned on her heel, marching out of his apartments. She spit the last word with such venom you were sure it could probably kill him.
He looked down at the box clutched in his hands before looking at you.“I-i-i-i promise i can explain“
“There’s nothing wrong with having a pet”
You smiled as he started to relax, clearly pleased that you didn’t bring up silly stories and accusations about him. “Please sit”
“Oh i can’t, they’ll-”
You jumped a bit when he put a hand on your shoulder before pulling it back. “OH sorry, i didn’t mean to- its just that- i-i, well you can stay here and relax a bit if you’d like, you won’t get in trouble”
“OH I don’t want to impose on you, you probably have a lot of work to do”
“No it’s fine, i’ll ask for some tea and cakes, you must be hungry.”
While he went to go fetch a servant to get the tea you took the time to look around at all his books. You couldn’t read more complicated books like Orlo could. There’s been a handful of times where the man had even let you borrow some of his easier ones, well borrow is a strong word as you’d be beaten if someone of your class was caught with a book. But there’s been a few times where he let you sit in his apartments and let you read under the guise of needing an assistant. You smiled at the memory of the one time where he read one of his complicated books to you and explained all the meanings and philosophies, it was all completely lost on you, you just sat there staring at the poor man.
Your eyes landed on something peculiar. You tilted your head to look at the spine of the book, you felt a bit dizzy when you noticed it said it was about vampires. Your curiosity got the better of you. You looked around to make sure no one was there to see as you carefully lifted the book and looked at his writing on on the parchment. You noticed a strange smell and a stain that wasn’t ink. Well you noticed it when you walked in but the palace was so vile you didn’t pay attention to strange smells but it was particularly pungent. It was covered in scribbles about blood, animals, the effects of different light.
“The tea is-”
You were so absorbed in your discovery you screamed and huddled into the corner.
“I’m sorry, i’m sorry, i really am, i just-” Well it wouldn’t matter if he was a vampire because in a few minutes you’d be dead for looking at his notes. It didn’t MATTER that you were good friends you were still a serf caught looking at his notes.
He quickly put the tray down and walked over to you, hesitating coming any closer when he saw you flinch.
He stayed a decent length away. “Please sit down i promise i won’t harm you”
You slowly uncurled from yourself and walked towards a chair.
He very carefully walked to his seat, making sure to not get too close to you so as not to upset you.
“I hoped you wouldn’t find out, at least not like this”
You tried to speak normally but you voice came out barely above a whimper. “So it’s true” You looked up from your lap
“Yes, although I truly promise I wouldn't harm you. I feel bad enough that I have to do this to animals but drinking from the dead makes me sick. Though i still don’t know if it’s just me or vampires as a whole as i haven’t meet any others, well…...not extensively”
You gently picked up the box and held it on your lap. “Soooo this isn’t-”
“Isn’t a pet, no, i’m afraid not” he gave a forced laugh
You looked at the box again and made a motion to open it. “Can i?”
“Oh, yes!. Believe me, i wouldn’t be doing this if i didn’t have to”
You opened the box and gingerly took out the cute fluffy little thing.
You smiled as you scratched the fluffball behind the ears. “You can talk to me about what happened if you’d like”
His jaw clenched as he looked at the fire, you’ve never seen him so upset. “I prommis you don’t have to i just thought-”
“No it’s fine, i probably should talk to someone it’s just….hard”
He sighed and put his head in his hands.”I-i--it was the night the carriage crashed, apparently one of the soldiers was a vampire, he tried to kill me with his bite, and as i’ve found out, there’s no difference between a vampire bite intending to turn or kill, it depends on the length of time but when i killed him it wasn’t enough to kill me and i’m now cursed, I probably deserve this.”
Your heart broke for him, you’ve never seen him look so distraught. Not even the words of the court got the him this much. You held the rabbit to your chest and got up to sit next to him on the couch.
“So i presume any blood would do?”
He looked at you and quickly got up before answering. “W-w-well a-acording to the doctor it would b-b-be better if i h-had human blood”
He was turned away from you, towards the fire. He was shaking and visibly distraught. You put the little creature back in the box and quietly walked towards him. Now that you were right next to him you could see how pale he was and all the little purple and blue veins that ran through him. You should be scared, any normal person would in this situation but you just didn’t have it in your heart. He looked so broken. Your brow furrowed with concern when you noticed his eyes were red, was that blood?!.
You pulled off your head piece and gently dabbed under his eye, the cloth came back stained with red. “I-i-i-it seams that the only liquid in my body anymore is the blood”
“You need to drink, you look ill.”
“Oh that’s just from the light. See light doesn’t kill it just, well it reveal things”
You watched him as he seemed to perk up, walking around the room grabbing books and other odds and ends.
He ushered you to a darker part of the room. “ See how my hand looks more normal?”
He lit a candle, put his hand over it and you were shocked when it started to pale in the light.
You looked up at him not knowing what to say or do. He opened a book to a page about the sun.
He leaned towards you. “See? It says that In the dark a vampire will look like a normal person but light shows their truth.” he put his hand over the candle again. “And this is just with candles if i was out in the sun i’d look…..well-” his mood quickly changed. “I’m disgusting” He stood up and walked away from you. “Why do you want to talk to me, to a cor-”
You gently shushed him. “It’s ok, it’s not your fault, you don’t deserve any of this, you’re one of the kindest people i know”
He looked at you, his face stained with blood and his lip trembling. “But how are you not afraid of me, of what i am?”
You were both startled by the chime of the clock signaling it was one in the morning.
“My apologies, i did not intend to keep you here so late, you should be sleeping.”
You picked up the bunny once more. “It’s ok,you need to talk to someone. You were saying th doctor suggested human blood? So that means the doctor is helping you yes?”
He crossed his arms and snorted as he rolled his eyes. “If you can call what he does helping, more like shots in the dark, lucky guesses, and experiments.”
You walked towards him and the bunny started squirming more and more. You shrieked and dropped the thing as it bit you.
You clutched your hand and looked at the mark. It wasn’t a lot but it HURT “I didn’t know bunnies could bite that hard, sorry i think it scurried under-”
You looked up to see Orlo’s terrified expression, It looked like he was using every single muscle in his body to keep himself under control.
“You must leave, i’ll find it by myself”
“What are you talking about i-”
Then it hit you. You looked at your hand and realized the skin was broken. He could smell your blood. It felt like time slowed down for you. You thought about how kind he was towards you even though you weren’t a lady, or perhaps he was kind to you BECAUSE you weren’t a lady. Then you thought of the pain and fear he was in, and how he was one of the few people outside of your family that you unconditionally trusted. And there was always a little voice in your head that kept mocking you, saying you two could be together if status didn’t matter. You hated that thought, you kept trying to push it away. Status did matter and your dreams were just a bitter reminder of something that never could be. But if you couldn’t be with him, you wanted to be held, just once.
“It’s ok” you stepped towards him and he flinched.
He backed up, trying to get away from you. The words peter spoke about serfs echoing through his head “I shouldn’t i-i dont i-”
He was shaking. You couldn’t tell if it was from fear or hunger.
He had a look in his eyes that chilled you, a look you’ve only seen on wolves.
You tried to sound brave. You stedied yourself as you walked towards him. “From what you’ve said, you need human blood. Animals won’t be good enough for ever. It’s been only a week and look how sick you are. I know you said it because of the light but it’s not just that. You need to eat”
His jaw was so clenched it looked like his teeth would break. “Please i don’t want to hurt you. I don't even know if i can control it ” his eyes became tinged with red as it threatened to spill from his eyes.
Your hesitated before looking at your finger again. You squeezed it to get a droplet out before tilting your head and rubbing it on your neck.
You could tell he was starting to falter as his hands reached for you. Before he could pull them back you grabbed them and held them in yours. He was absolutely freezing.
“Please”
“Why do you want this so badly?”
Your eyes watered as you thought about telling him. You felt so foolish. “Because i’ll never get another chance to be this close to you“
He looked at you even more confused than before. “What do you mean? We’re friends we-”
It all clicked for him and his mouth fell open.
“You mean?”
You shook your head in confirmation as tears freely flowed down your cheeks.
“Well what makes you think you won’t get another chance?. Because you’re a serf?”
“Of course we can’t Orlo, you know that” You leaned in, resting your head on his chest. He froze for a moment, not use to being this intimate.
“All i know is i’m a count meaning i’m one of the highest ranks besides the king and queen. I’m free to marry who ever i wish”
You pulled back and looked at him in shock. “Orlo, what do you mean?!”
“You’re one of the most pleasant people to be around, you’re kind, and funny, and you’re so excited to learn i just- i just thought you’d never be interested. I was just happy to find a friend”
You leaned in again. Savoring the feel of the silks and velvets of his clothes. And how you were pleasantly surprised by how sturdy he felt.
You rested your head on his shoulder and he gently brushed your hair away from your neck. You could feel yourself blushing at the closeness. He gently touched your neck.
“Are you sure you want this i could-”
You looked up at him through your eyelashes. “Please, i’ve never been more sure of anything”
“From what i know it  should hurt, but then again he was trying to kill me, so please try to relax”
You closed your eyes and focused on Orlo, the feeling his arms wrapped around your waist holding you tightly, the smell of ink and leather, the warm and luxurious feel of his jacket.
You flinched as you felt a prick and a burning sensation but it slowly melted away. Strangely enough it felt warm, like being wrapped up in a fluffy blanket. You sighed as he ran his finger through your hair, gently scratching your scalp, it felt amazing, almost overwhelming. You relaxed even deeper. You knew you’d fall if orlo wasn’t holding you.  You didn’t know if it was a vampire thing or if it was the blood loss but could swear you could here Orlo in your head.
“Thank you so much, no amount of words or actions could ever repay you for your kindness, i insist you stay with me instead of going back to the servants quarters, mockery of peter and the courts be damned ”
You felt extremely tired, like you haven’t slept in actual days. You hummed at the feeling of him licking your wounds. You felt him pick you up bridal style but you couldn’t say anything or even open your eyes, you tried but he shushed you, you whined and grabbed for his hand when you heard him walk away.
“Sleep, i’m just changing”
You smiled knowing at the crack of dawn marial would march in and demand to know everything that happened.
You tried sitting up when you herd him come back. He rushed over to you and tried to get you to lay back down. “You need to rest you-”
“THE BUNNYS SAFE!”
He tried to stifle his laughter.”yes it’s safe, i found it hopping around” He held up the box with the little thing inside and you smiled.
“What do we name it?”
“You need sleep”

Whispers in the Dark - The Slayers fanfic
Warnings: blood, and I think xellos himself is a warning. Everything he does or says is disturbing. What do you expect from a demon? ^_^”
Like always THANK YOU to my dear Beta: @naiokiara
Chapter 4
“I’m soooo hungry, Lina!” complained Gourry for the third time within an hour, traipsing behind the sorceress.
“I knooooow!” she howled almost like a wounded wolf. “Me too! My stomach is so empty it will consume the rest of my guts soon.”
“I caught a small lizard. We can roast it when we stop to rest,” Zelgadis sighed deeply. Although his chimeric body was much stronger than his comrades’, he also felt uncomfortable. They haven’t eaten anything since the previous morning.
“When we stop to rest I’m going to roast a much bigger, golden lizard!” hissed Lina, crushing the blond girl with her chestnut-brown eyes.
“Miss Lina, it’s not very kind to call Miss Filia a lizard,” noted Amelia faintly, knowing it was unhealthy and unsafe to talk to the witch when she was starving.
The dragoness gritted her teeth. “In the evening we should be in another town. Stop complaining, already! How will you save the world if you can’t stand such a small inconvenience?”
Only the fact that Lina had to save her energy stopped her from throwing a Fireball right into the proud priestess who walked in front of her.
The red-haired sorceress had been in a bad mood since the previous evening. It’s not like she’d slept badly. Actually, the nap on the demon’s chest was very comfortable. Too comfortable. But Xellos making fun of her… Lina licked her lips again, but she still couldn’t get rid of the Mazoku’s flavour. Probably it wasn’t on her tongue anymore, but somehow it affected her mind. She couldn’t stop thinking about his stupid joke. He kissed her! No, it wasn’t a kiss, right? He just licked her tongue. Gross! So why had this awful act made her feel so strange between her thighs?
Gods, she will go insane with those demons and dragons.
Xellos had awakened her after midnight with a whisper that it was time for Zelgadis’ watch and then melted into darkness. Lina, sleepy and suddenly alone, had felt with double strength the cold wind all around. She had awakened the shaman, added to the fire some twigs from completely dry bushes growing near, and laid next to Gourry near the campfire. The blond warrior had been in deep sleep while the sorceress observed him with ambivalent feelings. He had breathed loudly, his strong chest moving up and down. The silent snoring had buzzed in Lina’s ears, somehow calming her. They had travelled together for so long, it was almost impossible for the sorceress to even imagine it would ever change. When once she had asked the swordsman how long he was going to be her protector, she had surprised him with her question. “For the rest of my life?” He had answered without hesitation.
He was a good man. Too good for someone so wild as Lina. He deserved someone delicate and pure like himself, like that priestess from Sairaag City, Sylphiel. She had always been in love with Gourry and only Lina’s presence by his side was an issue.
The sorceress had smiled and shifted a blond lock away from Gourry’s face with a fond gesture. What should she do with him? What does she feel for him? Her heart was filled with warmth for the warrior… but the other man had just made it drum like crazy this evening. Why would she even think about Xellos that way? She didn’t want to! It wasn’t her fault the demon knew exactly which string to pull to sneak into her thoughts. He was an evil magical creature, not a human! Technically he wasn’t even alive. Nothing had happened. He had teased her, had his fun, and probably made a fat supper of her emotions. That’s all. She would behave like there were no embarrassing intimate acts between them. Because there weren’t, right? A foot massage, mental bonding (it could be considered a magic ritual), some friendly reminiscing, and fooling around with those kisses, only to make her feel uncomfortable. Typical for Xellos. But even in the morning, Lina still couldn’t stop thinking about that. Better for her to buck up, otherwise that bastard would easily notice how his mischief had worked and continue with it.
“We have to talk, Miss Lina.” Filia slowed down so the other girl found herself by her side.
“About the fact we will die in this desert without water and food before anyone decides to destroy this world?”
“About Xellos.”
Great. She needed distraction from him, not to focus on him.
“From the moment he appeared he has treated you all as good friends. I insist that we must abandon his companionship! It is an offence to us, especially me, as a priestess of light, to spend even a second in his filthy presence.”
Lina rolled her eyes.
“And what should I do? He doesn’t react to a “Shooo!” command. He does what he wants. So long it isn’t us dripping all in red, I am fine with his company.”
“But he is a Mazoku!” Filia stopped in front of Lina to embolden the words. “What if he betrays us?”
Lina smiled sourly.
“My dear Filia, the question isn’t if he betrays us, but WHEN he betrays us.”
“And you say it so calmly?” At her emotions, Filia’s long tail slipped out from under her skirt.
“Can I do anything about that fact? No. Can I tell Xellos to leave us alone? Yes, but he’ll ignore it. If we piss him off, we will have against us not only Valgaav, but also the fourth most powerful Mazoku in this world not counting Shabranigdo. Do we need that? No. Can we handle such a threat? No. Sorry, Filia, but your dignity has to stand up to much more than his jokes about golden dragons. Besides, it is always you who starts fights.”
“Well said, Miss Lina.” Air wavered, condensing into a shadow that formed into a male shape. Xellos smiled brightly at the group. “Good morning. Have you missed me? How is my sweet Filia the Destroyer today? My deepest respects! My Mistress, the Greater Beast, sends her regrets that she couldn’t see the show herself.”
Filia’s face momentarily became red with rage.
“Give her a break, Xellos! What do you want, again?” snarled the chimera.
“Not nice, Mr. Zelgadis.” The demon pouted. “I dropped in to bring some food and water. Straight from Seiruun’s best restaurant.” He took out from the dimensional pocket some delicious-smelling packages. “But if you don’t want it, then…”
“OUR SAVIOUR!” Lina and Gourry practically jumped on the man to get the meal.
“Oh, my.” Xellos stepped out of their way. “Filia, you really should start to feed your workers. They were ready to bite off my hand. Even, we, Mazoku, don’t drive our minions to such a state. Miss Amelia, Mr, Zelgadis?” The demon offered packages also for the princess and the shaman. Both sighed shamefully, but took the gifts, trying not to look into Filia's eyes. Hunger at the moment was stronger than loyalty.
“And what about you?” The Greater Beast’s Priest smiled angelically at the dragoness.
“I prefer to starve to death rather than take anything from such a filthy monster!” Hissed the girl, her tail waving angrily. “Miss Lina! Don’t eat it! It's poisoned for sure!”
“Then I will die with a full stomach!” snapped the sorceress with the mouth filled with food.
“Slowly, Miss Lina; you will choke yourself! My, they are so enthusiastic, aren’t they?” giggled the Mazoku. “Come on, Filia. Maybe an apple?” A red fruit appeared in his hand. “It isn’t poisoned. I need you all as a bait for Valgaav, did you forget?”
“I won’t…”
“Take it!” Lina’s glare could melt rocks into lava.
“Fine!” Filia finally reached for food too, trying to ignore the fact Xellos had abandoned politely titling her as Miss. She wouldn’t allow him to provoke her again.
“Good little dragoness,” praised the demon.
“You are a real friend, Xellos. We would die here for sure without your help. Phew!” Gourry happily patted his full belly with relief.
“As I said earlier, I need you all alive. That’s all.” Xellos shrugged, crouching next to Lina to show her a map. “In this direction is the end of the desert. Here is a small inn on the trail.”
“But there is the town we wanted to visit.” The sorceress sounded disappointed, indicating the other direction.
“Better not. I checked. Gravos and Jillas made another trap there for you. Valgaav isn’t with them. As we heard it, Almace ordered him to withdraw temporarily. There is no point in another confrontation with pawns.”
“True.”
“And you think we would believe you?” Filia was ready to start another quarrel with fresh strength now, since she’d finished not only the apple but also the dish Xellos had left next to her just in case she changed her mind.
“I think you are not in a position to decide today after that wonderful disaster in the previous town.” The demon’s eyes shifted from the dragoness to the sorceress. “What will you do, Miss Lina?”
The redhead nodded.
“We will stay in the inn.”
“Wonderful.” Xellos moved his hand to wipe something off Lina’s cheek and slid the finger into his own mouth, making the sorceress blush deeply. “My apologies; I love this sauce. Sometimes things are so delicious I can’t resist.” He smiled, trapping the girl’s gaze in his hypnotic glare under half-closed eyelids. “Till the evening then.” He vanished before two stones, thrown in the same moment by Lina and Filia, reached his face.
***
The Mazoku, with regret, left the company of his favourite humans (well, he had to admit that dragon girl was also very amusing, even if the sweetness of her anger was a little spoiled by her sacred power) and jumped into the Astral Dimension, dispersing his physical form into dark energy. From here, where the material body didn't limit his power, he could divide his attention among the travellers, Valgaav's minions waiting in the town (poor things - they will be so frustrated when no one appears) and the rest of the nearby lands looking for any other sign of the traitor.
Valgaav was good at hiding. Or maybe not directly him, but his new friend's nest somehow shielded him from the Mazoku's Astral Eye.
No need to be angry about that. The traitor won't have his revenge on Lina sitting on his ass. He has to make a step forward. It looks like Jillas and Gravos don’t act directly on Valgaav's orders, but… they just wanted to help their master of their own wills. How touching… the loyalty and worship in their hearts.
Xellos soon got bored with tracing towns, fields and the desert without any success. Images of it were flowing through his mind, but the Mazoku's thoughts returned to the previous night with Lina.
It had been a masochistic torture to have her so closely clinging to his body for so long. The Chaos in her was calling him, almost demanding that he sink claws and fangs into this mortal girl. Only the fact Xellos was an experienced old Mazoku let him control his bloody needs. It was painful, but the longer he had kept her in his embrace, the more the feeling changed into a pulsing pleasure.
She probably hadn't noticed anything, thinking that his touches were nothing more than his usual teasing. If Lina could see how limited his senses are… How hard is it to resist the urge of deep contact with her… she would attack him immediately.
The sorceress apparently had been sure he had only wanted to give her some warmth with his cloak, even when she knew the cloak wasn’t a fabric but part of himself. In fact he had wrapped her body tightly only so he could be closer to her. The Chaos was radiating from her whole body faintly. The more he interacted with her, the more he could feel that. Her clothes were a barrier. The demon needed the thinnest way to get to the source. The Chaos flew in Lina's veins, filled her muscles and organs, and pulsed in her mind as well. The most sensitive places on her body were pathways to it. The places where skin was thin and innervated: lips, neck, ears and others that the human species used for procreation. Lesser Mazoku desired only to tear this young woman apart to devour her and make the Chaos one with them… of course only till the moment a stronger beast of darkness would hunt them down to get the power for themselves.
Xellos had a much better plan… as long as he is able to stay conscious while being near the Chaos for so long.
It had been hard to not steal a kiss or two from her. The skin of her nose and forehead was a little salty from the sweat from a hot day, which dried by chill night. The demon's lips had felt ticklish after the contact, especially after the moment Lina had noticed his heart hadn't beat so he’d heightened the level of the reality of the human vessel, shaping organs inside of the body. This only sharpened his human senses.
Xellos sometimes liked taking such a form. It demanded more power and focus to create a good human body copy, but it was very helpful in the art of manipulation, not to mention the improved pleasure of mortal senses. Like in that moment when he had used her distraction to brush his tongue against hers. The effect almost had shattered his control. His perfect falsification of taste buds felt the sweet wetness and slick inside of Lina's mouth. The experience had been intense itself, but mixed with his Mazoku's abilities, had made him moan internally. Chaos was so close, somewhere under this thin layer he had touched. Her saliva, which had remained in his mouth, had been full of very tiny parts of that terrifying power dreaming in the girl.
So hard to not reach for more! He had to be patient and not scare away his precious sorceress. Her emotions had gone crazy. Lina was startled and angry with his boldness… but he could also feel what he had needed: human arousal, shame and embarrassment.
Soon he was going to get more. Much more.
***
The inn was a great choice. The food was tasty, and rooms small, but it had everything tired travellers needed to refresh themselves.
Lina wished to finally lay her head on the pillow and drift away, so she didn't listen very carefully to Filia's complaints during the meal. Thank gods, Xellos didn't join them there, so the priestess returned to her usual panic about the prophecy the group had heard so often they were able to wake up reciting it in the middle of night.
After food they finally headed to bed. This inn was much more modest than the previous one where they’d had the pleasure to sleep, so Lina had no other choice than to clean herself in a bowl of warm water. Better this than nothing.
When she finished and changed clothes into a nightgown, she started to brush her red long locks energetically, wondering lazily how likely it was that the threat to the world was real. Of course their lives were in danger like usual, but Lina, not for the first time, had serious enemies to deal with. The most important thing was to keep fighting.
The sorceress gasped when, reaching for another strand of hair, her fingers had met an unexpected shape she recognized as someone’s hand. She looked quickly in the mirror and in the darkness behind her, two reptilian amethyst eyes glowed delicately. A stranger's digits ran through her locks again.
"May I?" Xellos took the hairbrush from the shocked girl.
"Someday you will lead me to the grave. I HATE when you do that! I didn't invite you here!" Lina finally reminded herself about breathing. He seriously scared her. "Mercy, Xellos. Doors really were invented for knocking!"
"My apologies, I didn't want Filia to know I'm visiting you again." His hands were skillful, and Lina's shoulders tired, so in the end she allowed him to brush her hair. "Is something wrong? This time I waited till the moment you finished refreshing."
"And how did you realize that I was finished?" Asked the sorceress with a weak tone. It was more than obvious he had peeked at her from the Astral Dimension. "Do you even know the meaning of the word privacy?" She snarled, observing his reflection while the demon was tying her locks into a plait.
Xellos smiled. "Of course I know. That's why I'm meeting you now. We couldn't have our nice scientific talks next to your friends."
Lina grimaced. Their ‘nice scientific talks’ cost her all night and a day of feeling funny in some parts of her body. "What do you want? Evenings in your company end with a headache. I don't want you here today."
"Quite the opposite, Miss Lina. You are yearning for my company." Xellos' smile widened, and Lina growled helplessly. "Don't be afraid of me, please. I swear I won't do anything against your wish this evening."
"My wish but not my words." Noted Lina sourly. She wasn't sure if she liked that because her emotions were insanely conflicted between enjoyment of his presence and fear of the demon.
"Correct," confirmed Xellos happily, shifting the finished plait on Lina's chest. "Is that a problem?" He sat on the bed's edge next to the chair occupied by Lina.
"Why are you here?" The sorceress sighed heavily.
"You haven't given me the answer on my offer yet," the Mazoku reminded her.
Lina bit the inner part of her cheek. Her eyes darkened. "It's been too little time. I need more than one day," she whispered. The fact Xellos had proposed a contract was a huge thing. Normally she would laugh at any such Mazoku's proposition, but… refusing openly to this one would be dangerous for her and the rest of the company. Creatures of darkness rarely could stand such an offence calmly.
"That's ok, Miss Lina." Xellos reached his arm and touched the witch's cheek directing her face towards him, so their eyes could meet. "Take as much time as you need. I didn't say I want the answer now. But…" His thumb brushed the line of her jaw, and the girl felt a cold shiver travelling down her spine. "... I'm not going to sit and just wait. Meanwhile I will try to convince you."
Lina's heart just tried to escape through her throat.
"Could you not touch me, please?" She asked weakly.
"Why?" He purred, wrapping her plait around his fingers and pulling her towards him till the moment the demon could feel her irregular breath on his face. "Because of those things your body does against your will? It's not a shame to crave another person, Miss Lina. This is how your species works. I like the scent of your arousal. And your lovely shame… it tastes like strawberries."
The sorceress’ sight blurred in panic. With one quick move she jumped on the other side of the room. In her hands had already formed a ball of fire aiming at the intruder… but the bed was empty. Lina cursed under her nose. She shouldn't let him provoke her.
"Now, now… Such spells are dangerous indoors." Hands appeared from behind her, grasping her wrists firmly, forcing her to let the energy melt away in the air. "Calm down, Miss Lina. You know you can't win with me, however I appreciate the attempt. Is this what you, humans, call foreplay?" Breath of his giggle blew into her nape, raising every single hair on Lina's body.
She would swear that a moment ago, he hadn’t needed to take air into his lungs. A sudden closeness of his body behind her, and the awareness of the lost fight while the demon knew everything about how he works on her, frustrated Lina extremely.
Xellos turned the girl around so she would face him. That annoying smug smile on his handsome face enraged the witch.
"What a lovely blush! Smile, Miss Lina. I know you enjoy those little acts of mischiefs… or at least your body does."
"Stop fooling around!" She snarled, trying to free herself, but he only laughed at her, raising her hands to his mouth and kissing top of both warmly, before he pulled her again towards him, wringing her arms behind her back and pressing her body to his. Lina momentarily became docile, unsure of what would happen.
“I’m afraid I enjoy our evenings too much, Miss Lina,” the demon whispered, looking into her eyes with amusement. “So till the moment you give me the answer, I’m going to spend them with you.”
“So from the next town on, I’m going to share a room with Amelia,” the girl snapped back.
“Miss Lina! A triangle? So soon? You dirty little girl.” His wide grin almost drove the sorceress crazy with fury, but before she could gift him a bite or kick attempt, he pushed her onto the bed.
Lina quickly used her freedom to grab a knife from under a pillow, pointing it at the Mazoku.
“Really? You want to use this against ME? Is that a joke?” Xellos too sat on the bed.
“Don’t mind it. It just makes me feel a little better. The illusion of control of the situation.” Lina’s body was tense and ready to attack at any moment. Most of her reactions were instinctive. Somehow she knew that Xellos really only toyed with her now and all she had to lose was a little dignity.
“I see. Then use it.”
“Pardon me?” She blinked.
“Cut my body, Miss Lina.”
“But…” The sorceress lost her confidence. Even if she knew the blade wasn’t able to harm Xellos at all, she couldn’t force herself to do it.
The man smiled at her and pulled her ankle to have the sorceress closer. Even now she resisted attacking. Xellos raised his eyebrows.
“So… you trust me, Miss Lina.”
“Don’t be ridiculous. I don’t trust even myself.” She snorted and caught the air desperately, when his hand traveled up her ankle, slipping under her nightgown, through the shin and stopped on her knee.
“Even now you won’t attack? Is this an invitation?” His smile reminded her of a wolf’s one
Lina threw a pillow into his smug face.
“What's wrong with you today?”
“I don’t know. Probably, the way I affect you got me a little drunk.”
“Can Mazoku even get drunk?” Lina was sceptical.
“In some ways, apparently yes.” He took back his hand, and the sorceress felt unexpected disappointment and chill in the place his fingers had rested. “I promised to convince you of the contract with me. Treat these evenings as an opportunity. I will be more willing to share the forbidden knowledge than usual.”
This immediately pinned Lina’s attention.
“Can I ask whatever I want?” Her eyes gleamed like a child’s on its birthday.
“You can ask, but I choose what I will answer, my dear. Let’s say, the larger base of knowledge is available after the contract is formed.”
Lina blushed again at his fond tone and wondered about the first question. She didn’t want to push her luck too much in the beginning, so she chose a safe one. “Do you breathe only as a masquerade?”
“Hmm…” Xellos brushed his chin; “It’s a more complex topic than you think. The basic answer would be: yes, I do it mostly to hide among mortals, but since we are here for a longer conversation, we can go deeper into the issue.”
“Is there a connection with the heartbeat you can turn on and off?” Lina remembered the previous evening.
“It is all connected. Creating the physical vessel is more demanding than you’d think. That’s why only the most powerful of us can reproduce the human body in a way that seems to be real. I think a small presentation is needed.” The Mazoku reached his arm out to Lina. His dark coat and sleeve melted into a shadow absorbed by the rest of his body, shaping a bare forearm. Xellos’ clothes looked strange now, like someone had cut off half of them. Muscles seemed to be real, though.
Lina furrowed her eyebrows, cocking her head to see better. A subtle map of veins and tendons were visible when Xellos stretched the arm. Till this moment she didn’t realize how complicated the construction of human organisms was. No wonder the lower rank Mazoku looked creepy, not being able to make their physical forms as good as Xellos’. Randomly placed eyes or limbs often mixed with animal parts. Chimeras from horrors fully deserving to be called monsters or demons.
“Cut my arm.”
Lina glanced at the Mazoku unsure, but Xellos grasped her hand and slid the blade through the flesh, before the girl could react. Inside the wound was blackness and emptiness which started to pour outside in the form of smoke for a short moment before the cut healed.
“So it’s only the perfect surface,” she concluded.
“It is,” the Mazoku confirmed. “Only at this level. Check now.” He pressed her fingertips to the inner side of his wrist. Lina shifted uneasily, when she suddenly felt the pulse. “This level of detail demands much more energy from me in creating the vessel. Cut my arm again. Deep!”
The sorceress clenched her jaw, but did that, almost immediately gasping in surprise when sliced flesh parted under the knife and blood (black like a night sky) burst out. She could easily see muscles, veins… even a bone deep inside. Xellos hissed in pain, but the wound started to heal before a panicked Lina could find anything to wrap up his arm.
“Easy, Miss Lina. Everything is alright. It is only a good copy. Even having the body in such a faithful form l am still a Mazoku. I will regenerate wounds immediately.” He chuckled at her terrified face.
“Warn me next time, before you drown my bed in blood, you asshole.” She punched him in the chest.
“Sorry about that.” Black stains on the sheets vanished, returning to the monster as smoke. “This state lets me feel in a similar way to humans: taste, pain, pleasure. I reconstruct everything inside: my all organs can work exactly like yours… if I need that. Additionally I still have my Mazoku powers. I can smoothly jump between my physical forms in a blink of an eye, but it costs me lots of energy.”
“So you are able to eat, drink and enjoy the sense of touch like every human.” Lina was impressed.
“Copulation also isn’t a problem, and there is no risk of impregnation. I can’t copy the body to THAT level.” Before he’d finished, another pillow hit his face. “Oh, Miss Lina, you shouldn't be so shy. We are talking from a scientific point of view, right?” His bright teasing smile told her the opposite.
“Exactly. I’m not going to even consider that a veiled offer.” The sorceress murmured, totally red to the tips of her ears. “I was sure even you couldn’t create such a perfect body, but you can reproduce all five human senses… why are your eyes still so inhuman?”
“Because your species' sight is imperfect. I prefer to see well in darkness even being in the physical form. This is why I mixed into my vessel some animal abilities.”
"But how did you know how humans work? You have to know that to make such a perfect copy."
Xellos' smile faded and the demon remained silent.
"Don't tell me: it's a secret." Lina rolled her eyes.
"It isn't, but you wouldn't like the answer. Do you want to hear it after all?"
Lina swallowed nervously. She could guess by herself: "Lots of very nasty experiments," the sorceress whispered.
"Astral possessions, enslaving humans, torturing them, examining. Dissections, vivisections… Should I say more? What did you expect? I am a Mazoku. Shaping my physical vessel to the level I showed you took me hundreds of years."
Lina wrapped her knees with her arms, pulling them to her chest, feeling sick.
"Your race has an adorable tendency to underestimate someone who behaves in a friendly and silly way. Even you, Miss Lina, sometimes forget my true nature."
"You were right. I don't like the answer and it rather won't convince me to make a contract with you. So… good night?" She waved in the direction of the door.
"Everything has good and bad sides." Xellos ignored her words. "I don't need to do those things anymore. I'm afraid I’ve spoiled the mood. I better prefer you to be enthusiastic than gloomy. Any other questions?"
"Not today." Lina turned away her eyes, hoping that the demon would finally leave the room, but the Mazoku only shifted closer to her, taking her hand into his, stroking gently.
"You don't need to be afraid of me for now. You are… special to me."
"I feel that." She snorted, returning to her rather confident attitude, finally glancing at the man from under her eyelashes. "Even Filia isn't so harassed by you. I just wonder what makes me so interesting. My beautiful eyes? My intelligence? Sense of humour?" The sorceress joked, but then she bit her tongue, seeing Xellos smiling in a way she has never seen before. His amethyst eyes gleamed in a candle’s light, making her feel strangely hot in a way she already had enough.
"It's a secret," he finally answered, kissing her fingers, and then pressing his cheek to the inner side of her palm.
"Okay, you are scaring me," whispered Lina, and it was true.
"Not only scaring you." She felt his lips on her cheek, and realized he smiled wider, inhaling her scent into his fake lungs. "Strawberries." A low whisper in her ear, hot breath on Lina's neck. "Maybe someday should I try this dessert?"
Lina turned towards him ready to tell him what she thought about that, but suddenly she was alone in the room. Even the candles were extinguished.
The witch lay more comfortably in the bed, but she couldn't fall asleep, observing the ceiling as though there would be answers for how to deal with everything that had fallen onto her fragile back.
"I hate when he does that."

close encounters (berkut + #35)
Tumblr media
35) we’re neighbours who don’t talk because you seem awfully grumpy but then you buy your dog a winter coat and shoes and i need a photo to show my friends
this is for you, @sol-sunshine!! this was meant to be a christmas gift but god writing is HARD. i honestly love you to the moon and back, and you’re such a blessing that i adore so much. your laughter is so contagious and you really are a beam of sunshine in my life. here’s some berkut B)
i made him soft because.... god he’s so soft with rinea....
It was another cold, December day - you were walking home from your campus back to your own little area as the snow gently fell onto the ground and the streets were finally quiet for once due to the ice. You sighed softly against your scarf, exhaling out a visible puff of air away as you shivered and snuggled against your scarf and jumper even further. It was surprising to see how still the atmosphere seemed to be today - you had gotten out earlier than usual today, so that might have contributed to how the silents the area seemed today.
For the most part, your neighborhood was a fairly friendly one. The community seemed to get along fine mostly, and you had no trouble chatting to the acquaintances around. But there was one neighbor who refused to open up to anyone, no matter how kind you were or whether you needed help from him.
Berkut.
You had heard plenty of rumors about him when you passed by the old women and teenagers who tend to gossip about the man – he lived in quite a luxurious place, yet couldn’t seem to share any of his aid with anyone else. The people chattered about him quite often, for no one really knew who Berkut truly was – and neither did you.
But what you knew was he was quite the sight to behold.
A smile tugged your lips when you recalled how you bumped into him that one time accidentally.
                                                           ---
You weren’t paying attention, for the wind was biting against your skin and all you wanted was to get home. Closing your eyes for a second, you shivered as you continued to walk – but right at that moment, it was unfortunate for you that you had accidentally walked right into someone…
“Fool! Can’t you watch where you’re going?!”
Shocked by the sharp voice in front of you, you snapped out of your stupor to see a man (who was quite handsome, you had to add) looking disgruntled and rather grumpy. “Oh, I’m sorry – I wasn’t quite noticing my surroundings due to the cold,” you apologized, “but there was no need to call me a fool.”
Letting out a harrumph, the man could only scoff. “You better notice your surroundings next time. I’m quite in a rush to get home – the weather is getting too cold for us.”

Suddenly, you heard a whine.
Peering below the man’s legs, you saw a little dog sitting on the pavement patiently; its little eyes staring back at you with curiosity, starting to walk up to you as it sniffed your leg curiously. It was a husky, still a small puppy from the size – and as you cooed and reached out to pet the pup, the man cleared his voice loudly to catch your attention. Now looking up, you realized that he no longer looked annoyed – he looked embarrassed instead
“Come now, Velvet! No more dawdling here – it’s getting cold!”
Brushing past you somewhat roughly, the raven-haired man walked away (and looking even grumpier than before) – and when you stared back at the fleeting figure, his dog (Velvet, it seemed to be called) looked back at you until it walked alongside its owner again, both disappearing from your line of vision.
What an odd man, you thought to yourself. He was rude but… there’s something about him that doesn’t seem like he’s all that bad either.
Arriving back to your home, you were surprised to see Alm by your door, seemingly waiting for you despite the cold. Once his eyes were set on your figure, he smiled widely.
“[Name]!” The green-haired boy greeted, grinning from ear to ear. “I’ve been waiting for you for a while now. What gives? Did you forget we had a project to do together?”
Then everything clicked into your head – you did have a science project to finish together. You had totally forgotten about it until now; all you desperately wanted to do after getting out of campus was to go home and sleep. The biting cold and the odd (yet somewhat charming) man you bumped into had distracted you from your tasks, and you felt your face flush.
“Oh, I totally forgot – sorry!” You apologized immediately, but fumbled in your bag to get your keys out. “But let’s have this discussion inside – it’s freezing out here!” Laughing, Alm nodded as he waited for you to open the door. Once you both got into your house and you locked the door again, both of you kicked your shoes off and went to the living room to slump onto the couch.
“I’m so glad to be home,” you groaned loudly, “it’s been a long day.”
Alm laughed again, his bright smile always etched onto his face. “I think I can tell. What happened to you?”
You started off with a sigh, but you continued about how tiring your day was after your lesson with Alm, how cold the way back home was (your ride back home wasn’t here today, so you braved the weather for today, and how you met this handsome, raven-haired man with a cute dog named Velvet-
“Did… did you just say Velvet?” Alm suddenly sat up from his slumped position, looking at you with wide eyes. “That’s… that’s Berkut’s dog!”
Berkut?!
“Wait, did you just say Berkut-? How do you know him?” You asked incredulously, your eyes equally as wide as his.
“He’s my cousin! How do you know him?”
C-cousin.
“He’s the grumpy neighbor that’s next to my house! I’ve told you about him before, haven’t I? Berkut’s always the talk of the neighborhood!” You exclaimed, bouncing up from your position on the couch as well.
Your friend slapped his hand against his head, as if realizing something crucial just now. “I should’ve connected the dots together faster, haha! Well, that’s Berkut for you – we weren’t really on the best of terms before, but we’ve been meeting eye-to-eye better after a dispute we had,” now laughing sheepishly, Alm looked away from you. “No wonder this place looked familiar.”
You stayed quiet for a moment, staring at Alm’s averted eyes. “At least you two have amended things, right?” Hearing no reply from him, you asked something else. “Does Velvet love you?”
Brightening up significantly, Alm immediately replied: “Yeah. Berkut loves her a lot – and unlike her particularly grumpy owner, she’s quite fond of people as well. You know, when I first met her, she even jumped on me!”
As both of you laughed, you started to finally get up from your slouched position. “Let’s talk about this over snacks, shall we?” You grinned as you stood up, winking at your friend.
Alm whistled. “Soooo… you’re into him, huh?”
“Shut up!”
                                                          ---
A quiet chuckle was released from your lips as the memory resurfaced again, Alm’s teasing causing your face to grow hot despite the cold. It had been a while since you had encountered Velvet and Berkut at all - the winter had been harsher this time around, and so you thought it was reasonable to not encounter anyone at all around this time of day.
It’s so quiet... how peaceful. You thought. It’s nice to recollect my thoughts at some point, huh?
Closing your eyes a little bit, you buried your face further into your scarf to stay warm once again when a cold breeze hit you suddenly; your vision temporarily darkened when suddenly-
“A-ah-!”
You were about to take a tumble on the snow when you bumped into someone again, but the said-person had held out an arm to catch you just in time-
-but you both ended up falling on the sidewalk, with the stranger falling on top of you unceremoniously. You let out a groan of pain as the person grumbled against you, both of you stunned for a moment until you felt something licking on your face.
As you opened your eyes, you were met with Berkut’s flushed face and wide-eyed stare temporarily until he jolts away from yourself - then it dawned on you.
Berkut fell on top of you.
Now you were the one that was red-faced and wide-eyed, still on the ground as you opened your mouth to apologize-
“You-!”
“Sorry-!”
As you both started to ramble on with your apologies and his scoldings, Velvet stood there as she wagged her tail happily - and when she licked your face, you stopped your ramblings immediately.
“Velvet, can’t you see I’m in the middle of-” Berkut had started, but the cute, fluffy thing had already clambered on top of you and licked your face with joy. Now giggling at her wet licks, you sat up so you wouldn’t be towered by the sweet dog that was smiling on top of you.
“Velvet!” You called out as you rubbed your fingers against her neck, with Berkut’s eyes widening at how familiar you already were with his dog. “It’s good to see you again - and oooh! What are you wearing?!”
The sudden mood change felt like whiplash for the man standing in front of your grinning self and his over-friendly dog.
“Woooow! Look at your cute little kangaroo onesie! Did your owner get this for yoooou?” You cooed out your vowels as you continued to smoosh Velvet’s face as she panted and smiled happily in your touch - you continued to giggle and kiss her face. “I have to take a photo of you for my friends! They just have to see you...”
...until you suddenly heard a small “ehem” in front of you.
Berkut cleared his throat, looking slightly irked as he looked down on you. “Excuse me-”
Now suddenly realizing you were essentially playing with a stranger’s dog, you laughed awkwardly and put down Velvet (who continued to stay by your side despite that you had placed her beside you). You stood up to scratch the back of your head. “I’m [Name]. It’s nice to see you again,” you smile apologetically, “and I’m sorry for bumping into you earlier!”
The man was taken back for a moment, for he didn’t realize how... how...
...cute you were, looking all sheepish like that. It was at that moment he realized that you...
Berkut shook his head sharply.
“...Well, at least you are in sound condition,” He concluded, sighing as he put a hand up to his face. “My name is Berkut. What are you doing out here?” He pointed towards the weather in general. “No one is out here during these hours.”
Well, I can ask the same thing myself, Mr. Grumpypants! “I’m just walking home from school,” you sighed as you motioned to the snow, “trust me, if I could stay cooped up in my house, I would right now.”
There was a sudden short, delightful laugh when you looked up again at Berkut - his smile existed, and it had gone too fast for it to register in your brain.
But you couldn’t help but be charmed.
“I see,” the smile disappears, but the tone in his voice still mirthful. “Velvet here still needs a walk outside, always,” the German Shepard whines in response, “and it must always be around this time. Can’t have it any other way - she’s too spoiled.”
As you laughed in response to his answer, you suddenly realized that... Berkut wasn’t really all that bad. Why would the neighbors talk about how grumpy and miserable he is while he was clearly laughing with you here, speaking so fondly of his (adorably dressed-up) dog? The thoughts ran rapidly inside your head, as you stood there in silence after the laughter died deep in thought, and-
“Achoo!”
You sneezed.
Berkut jumped slightly in surprise, but then relaxed again as he looked at you. “Ah, it must be getting colder,” he thought for a moment in silence just like you did before, his face as if pondering to find the right words to say. “Are you getting colder as well, Velvet?”
He bent down and let out his hand for her to beckon towards. She walked to him in response, nuzzling up against his outstretched palm for warmth.
“Then, I guess it’s time to go home,” he smiled softly at Velvet, ruffling her fur softly as she let out her own doggy-smile. As you stood there in quiet admiration of the cute scene unfolding in front of you, Berkut cleared his throat for the final time and this time, offered his hand toward you.
“Perhaps we could get to know each other more over tea and not through bumping each other once again?”
Your heart stopped for a moment as you looked at him with surprised eyes.
And daresay, lovestruck?
“O-of course. I’d love to get to know my next-door neighbor more, huh?”
He smiled again, and this time you finally captured it.
“Wonderful.”
