shipping akiangel is great it’s about two guys who go i hate your species and i do not want to be your partner and a few weeks later they’re discussing life philosophies over brunch and it’s about the juxtaposition of a guy who can’t touch people without shortening their lives and a guy with a short life expectancy it’s about coming to care deeply about someone you initially didn’t want anything to do with. and it’s great bc the narrative draws parallels between the human angel once loved and aki and it’s great bc aki puts himself in danger simply bc he doesn’t want to watch angel die. and it’s buck fucking wild bc they die together but they die in the most miserable fucking way and aki not only never avenges his family but he becomes the thing that killed them and isn’t even able to protect the people he was trying to save and if anything puts them in more danger and angel remembers his past because of aki and tries to save him only to once again have makima take away everything he holds dear and use his powers to hurt people. and also it's great bc it's about two guys who would be absolutely insufferable to be around for any amount of time.

okay so I had a really terrible thought and I’ve been following you for a while and I wanted to hear your thoughts (maybe i’m just in a place of doubt rn) BUT
since they’re basically writing the episodes as they go, and are seeing fans reactions (and possibly taking them into consideration as they write), do you think if they see such a positive reaction to buck/tommy, they’ll make him more long term (and possibly endgame)…? again, I could be overthinking it but I’ve been seeing a tON of buck tommy stuff and idk if they’re going to consider that when they write the upcoming episodes for the rest of the season…like buck/tommy is cute ig don’t get me wrong bc we see bisexual buck and him enjoy his first male relationship and like i’m so proud, but…i’m an eddie-girl and buddie has always been my endgame
Okay, hi, ngl, I had this exact thought too when Tim kept insisting there's no plan. But the thing is, I don't believe him. I believe he doesn't have the full plot locked and loaded, but I doubt he doesn't have any idea where the story is gonna take him. Personally, I doubt that a few weeks of excitement over Buck being bi will be louder than 5 years of people BEGGING for buddie to happen. Buck and Eddie have a compelling relationship that's been cultivated for YEARS. And, look, far from me to make Buck's bisexuality about Eddie, but making a character who's HEAVILY shipped with another man for years queer in season 7 while having no plan on following through with the love story they've been building for 6 seasons would be dumb. Buck with a new guy and Eddie doubling down on being straight and ending up with some random woman is the worst case scenario here. This fandom is weird in the way that most of it is mono shipping. It's Buck and Eddie together or nothing. So they would piss off the homophobes, who are already pissed, and a solid amount of the people who have been following buddie for years and that's bad for business. They have the power to have a ridiculously compelling queer love story that's built on a foundation that's been there for 6 seasons. Buck and Eddie getting together could be EPIC. And they made the move to make Buck queer. They didn't have to. I love that Buck is getting a queer storyline, but if we are going there with Buck, what's actually stopping them from going there with Eddie? I don't see how you can have one of them being queer and not go there just because people are excited that Buck is bi. Tim can't say it's gonna go there. That would be a spoiler. A huge spoiler. But narratively speaking, or from a business perspective, Buck being bi has to mean buddie getting together. Because that's what people have been wanting from them. And honestly, if they wanted to play Tommy as having any chance of being Buck's endgame, he wouldn't have so many parallels with Taylor. The TK of it all, the helicopter of it all, the kiss that happens because Eddie is injured, Buck is even wearing a shirt that looks like the one he's wearing when Taylor comes back, like, seriously, what the fuck? And that's not going into the symbolism they have to know is there on the way the loft itself is a symbol of romantic doom, because Buck got it in a relationship that instantly Ended and the 2 times he started something there it went up in flames, so like 🤨🤔 I'm curious to see where it's going, but, personally, don't see them actually lasting the rest of the show. At least that's what I'm telling myself to calm down when I panic and trip into the bad place lol

Late night magnus archives thought: if every ritual was doomed to fail, then what would have happened to the ones gertrude stopped if she hadn't intervened? Would something else have caused them to fail, or was gertrude's interference a sort of predestined event? I have my suspicions that the web was nudging her in the right direction throughout her ritual hunting, especially considering they planted emma harvey right in her archives. The whole thing about the rituals being doomed to fail kind of confuses me bc we don't actually see one fail naturally. Each one was stopped either by interference or key components not lining up properly. But in mag 160 Jonah is all about the rituals being pointless and the watcher's crown being the only way to bring the powers through. Of course I could go off on a huge tangent about how the watcher's crown actually brings about the extinction if you squint and ultimately dooms the fears and forces them to migrate to another reality which like why would the web want to keep doing that if they could orchestrate events so the watcher's crown never happens, is a few months of factory-farming fear worth the risk of ceasing to exist entirely, and the answer of course is that the whole thing is an allegory for capitalist greed focusing on short-term profits and ignoring long-term damage caused by exploiting natural resources until they dry up when the sustainable option was working just fine all this time
This post got wayyy off topic but yeah my initial point was gertrude robinson is a walking tragedy bc either she was lied to by the narrative and all her sacrifices were meaningless or she was set on a path that isolated her at every turn and made her and everyone she could've potentially cared for into tools to bring about the eventual end of the world. And idk which option emotionally fucks me up more.

So who's your most problematic one?
Okay. So I've done Alec, Kelp, and Oak, so really the only one left is Tarlyn, who I honestly think is indeed my most problematic guy (gender neutral)
First of all, he's dead. Best get this out of the way. He is doomed by the narrative and bitches would die mad about it.
Then, let's talk about "guy (gender neutral)". He's an nb amab character who never questioned his gender and therefore used he/him all his life, so basically we're all misgendering him somehow so this is problematic.
His whole story is dark and edgy and awfully problematic. This sad wet rag of a boy covered in glitter never had a break; he was tormented by his mother his whole life and he never stopped loving her.
And that's not even touching on his actions yet. This anxious pixie nightmare boy is a spoiled LIL BITCH who thinks (or at least acts) like he's larger than life and better than everyone because that's the only way he can cope with his loneliness, looking at everyone as if they are beneath him. He is an arrogant bastard who genuinely thinks his nobility means he is entitled to his luxury, and that his intelligence makes him superior, and that his command of magic makes him deserving of accolades and applause and praise. But that's just to cover up his abysmal lack of self esteem, his vulnerability and his need for connection.
He is never nice to other people unless they're of higher status than him, or important in some way, otherwise he is either catty and rude or just uninterested and aloof. He unknowingly yearns for someone to love him (granted, abuse has made him incapable of identifying, let alone giving love), but whenever someone is nice in any way, he can't believe it is real and reads it as interest, as them wanting something in return. He reduces everyone into shrewd social-climbers in his eyes (thus insulting them) bc that's what his family is.
He insults his servants, he wears blood jewelry (and a bunch of it), he is vain and petty and snobbish and finicky, he uses magic to spy on people, he never prepared a single meal in his entire 150 years of life, he was over 100 years old when he started questioning whether it was really true that short-lived races are inferior to elves. He is a poor little meow meow born and raised and abused by multimillionaire right wing conservatives. My boy Tarlyn would vocally defend Trump in a modern au, what more do you need me to say? He is Problematic.
He spends a lot of time overthinking and questioning his family in his mind, but he never actually does anything to change shit.
Negative intervention wizard all the way. He doesn't start bullying anyone, but his friends do and they count on his magic to execute it, and he delivers. He was witness to {redacted}, designed a destructive magical item to be used by foot soldiers in an attack against the neighbouring nation, witnessed workers being gravely injured in his family's mines, and possibly even more! What other shit will we discover Tarlyn did?? The horrors are not over yet weeee!
And then, to escape all this shit, this extremely romantic asexual bitch (who needs to like someone to enjoy sex with them) seeks out sex with randos!! Because he is so lonely and he copies his jackass friends and his jackass brother and he is a people pleaser and he doesn't know how to set boundaries.... But he is so intelligent he convinces himself love is not real (he's never fucking seen it! Only in fiction! So it must!!! Be!!! Fake!!!!) and that he does want sex, when in reality he wants kisses and cuddles.... And he keeps getting in (or remaining in) these situations where he just proves it to himself that people only want to use him/his body/his magic/his position (whether that's true or not, he always manages to see it that way), thus confirming his cynical expectations and keeping himself miserable.
And that's not mentioning {redacted}.

hi hello i hope this isn't weird but what do you love about The Great? I finally have hulu and im about to start watching it because of you fr like i dont go there but I WANNA GO THERE // @tickle-bugs
omg hi i love this question!! i'm gonna tell you my favorite and my least favorite aspects so u can make a genuinely informed decision lol!! i believe this is all vague enough to not give anything away but give you a genuine review of the show to help you decide to watch it!! i would LOVE if you watched it, i think if you wrote a fic for this in your gorgeous style, i would DIE bc...i just know you'd KILL IT but also 0 pressure, seriously.
my favorite things about the great are:
the characters are all incredibly well-written, well-rounded, and well-acted - especially elle fanning's portrayal of catherine
the humor is sort of dirty/low-hanging fruit but it genuinely always makes me laugh, every episode, someone will say/do something so absurd or hilarious that it cracks me up
the dynamics between all the characters are fascinating - it takes place in a country/time period where class/status, gender, etc. all are so important to your place in society, and yet, characters often have unlikely imbalances of power and different dynamics that you might not expect
the romance is so compelling, just about every romantic relationship has so many layers to it and plays into many different tropes: you have the doomed-by-the-narrative lovers, the childhood besties to star-crossed lovers, the enemies AND lovers simultaneously...just the romance and the sexual scenes are all so compelling and well-done, they clearly had a great intimacy coordinator on this or smth bc damn
THE COSTUMES ARE SO FUCKING STUNNING, like the costumes are indescribably beautiful and actually breath-taking. the dresses that all the main women wear are like actually perfect, i want to steal them all. elle fanning is so beautiful and they manage to make her look even more amazing, like her hair/makeup/outfits are just incredible, but everyone looks so good.
this show doesn't use "it was a different time period" to justify any lack of diversity - there are characters of all different races, multiple canonically queer characters, women are badass and well-written/represented, and while it does address issues like aspects of discrimination in russia during that time period, there is very little actual racism/homophobia in the show, like the characters who are black or queer do not suffer.
my least favorite things about the great are:
the historical inaccuracy is self-proclaimed, but gets a bit silly at times - catherine the great was so fascinating and well-documented in history, but they really just took a concept and ran with it without even trying to get anything right? there are little things like, the number/gender of siblings catherine had, but then the huge differences like how catherine rose to power and became empress. it makes a compelling story, but if you're a history buff, it can be frustrating!!
on that topic, it does gloss over a lot of the good that catherine the great did in real life as it gets caught up in the drama/comedy/romance of the show and forgets to show her as the genuinely accomplished woman she was.
this is a big one: it got cancelled. i haven't finished s3 yet, but i'm a few episodes in and i'm not confident that it is going to end on a fully satisfying note. if a show being cancelled is a turn-off for you, this one did just end and i'm still not sure if the ending is anti-climactic or not, lol.
lastly, this doesn't personally bother me, but it is extremely inappropiate. there is a lot of violence (not too much gore, everything is either very obviously fake, or not explicit), nudity/sex, and totally vulgar language. there is a lot of infidelity, implied/mentioned SA but no scenes that are violent or explicit, overuse of the word "cunt", etc. so just proceed with caution and consider looking up content warnings if you're wary!!

Andrea and Zak have said it too, and actually the article itself even admits it. at the very last race Lando said how much Oscar has brought and that Lando himself has learned from him.

just to get ahead of the inevitable doom and gloom that sports media posts for engagement, let me pass on what I learned while in hockey fandom:
if the headline is dramatic, it's fake and don't give it clicks and ad rev. if it's not something like "grosjean leaps through fireball" which is easily verifiable then trust me, they won't be able to back it up in the article. remember when Lando did the landolog of him and Oscar karting in Italy and how much fun they had? at the beginning, he joked that Oscar had been a "little snake" for getting there early and practicing. he literally laughed while he said it. but sure enough, headlines on sites w names like F1dotcomBizFunHorny4U had "McLaren's Norris calls teammate Piastri a snake".
negative stories get engagement and melodrama gets even more. they'll worry about fixing it to not get sued way down in the article under the tenth video ad.
if the article was cribbed/didn't get a direct interview with a named source with an actual role within a team then it's either fake or stretched beyond reality for engagement.
even quotations can get chopped to hell and misplaced to fake a story - like people seeing Pierre explain his lack of relationship with Esteban by saying that other drivers might not be close friends either and to not make assumptions. despite quotes from those other drivers that they do in fact like their teammate (Carlos actually said this about him and Charles to Esteban and Pierre on the fanstage at Vegas). if people want to go hogwild with a quote to fit their negative personal narrative then they will. sites that exist solely for ad revenue and sponsorships will do everything to draw those fans in.
if DTS ever lands on the truth it's because that storyline wasn't worth the time in post twisting it into lies. so the fact that Oscar and Lando haven't had melodrama between them and keep saying how well they work together and like each other could mean that we get some unedited actual decent content! but since the 2023 season was so boring it might mean that the editors decide to do a hatchet job and bring in the usual talking heads to fabricate a drama between them. it ultimately doesn't matter bc DTS is only good for f1blr so that we can pull stuff for memes and gifs etc. when Lando recorded his viewing of some of the seasons he spent most of it laughing.
also this isn't the 80s or 90s or even early 00s Formula 1. the drivers are expected to stay much more even keeled out of respect for their teams and even the Pierre/Esteban situation (jsyk I do know their childhood history) isn't like they're out for each other's throats. they have a solely professional relationship now and they'd both agree that being civil is much better than not having an F1 seat. drivers are also way too busy nowadays with their own sponsorships and work outside racing to sit and fester these crazy rivalries in bars and pubs - as well as the media duties for their team that are way more since Liberty Media took over.
every set of teammates will experience ups and downs and tensions but they also have every incentive to get over it and not fuck up their work environment. especially at McLaren where Andrea and Zak now take a hard line about the drivers cooperating at all times for the sake of the team, that's never going to spiral into the kind of drama that media want. Lando beating himself up this season is because he's 5 years in and dying for that win, it's his mentality and it clearly didn't stop him from snatching podiums and points anyway. does he envy Oscar's sprint win, of course!! but if he hated or even resented Oscar for that Sprint win then he wouldn't keep bringing it up on Oscar's behalf all the time. he would do like other resentful teammates have done and simply avoid talking about it at all.
tl;dr anon, for your own sake please customize your F1 media experience or it'll drive you crazy <3 and just to say, I don't look at anything but F1.com or AP news to get updates on anything and I don't pay attention to anything else.

You’re upset and he’s not sure how he knows, he just knows. The asshole in the muscle shirt says something about you being in a bitchy mood and he yells out loud, making his way over to a similar lifted vehicle.
Xavier knew it was coming, that fucking real estate agent blew through the week before and there was lots of whispering and talk about rewriting the narrative, making Camp Redwood a happy place and when he’d heard it, he wanted to laugh until he cried because the fucking place is evil. Tainted.
“Are you even listening to me, Plympton?” Montana asks, nudging him in the side. But then she spots him staring in the distance and her gaze settles where his is fixed so intently. “You know what’ll happen, you fucking idiot.”
Xavier finally pulls his gaze off you and drags a hand over the back of his neck. “I wasn’t even thinking about it, okay? I��m not fucking stupid.”
Montana scoffs because somehow, she doesn’t believe him one bit. Of everyone trapped and doomed to spend their afterlife in Camp Redwood, Xavier has struggled the hardest.
She places a hand against his bicep. “Come on, doofus. Lets just get you away from temptation, yeah? Before you wind up mopey and heartbroken and shit.”
But then, just as he’s walking away, you catch sight of him. And you rub your eyes as if you’re seeing things. And you shake your head. Before Xavier can come to you, Montana’s grabbed hold of him and blipped him up into the cabin farthest up in the grounds. Away from the cabins below.
Lavinia Richter knits her brows in concern. “Oh dear. What’s wrong, sweet boy?”
Her son looks up at Xavier and shakes his head. “I heard ‘em too. Stay the hell out of sight, kid. I mean it. It’s for your own good and their safety. We’ll work harder t’ make sure that bastard Ramirez stays trapped and can’t roam as much as usual.”
“It’s only a week.” Ray speaks up from the doorway and Chet nods solemnly. “Lot can happen in a week, man. Didn’t take this shit we’re stuck in more than a day or two, remember?”
“Yeah, well.”
Down below, you’re wandering around. Trying to find the guy you thought you saw earlier. Trying to blow off steam because once again, Seth is being a complete prick. You spot the dock and the sunlight glinting off the water and it’s so hot that you can’t resist taking a dip.
You make your way down and shed your cutoffs and the tank top you’d been wearing and you dive into the cool water of the lake. When you resurface, you happen to catch sight of a rundown cabin off in the distance on a high slope. And you’re almost certain you’ve seen someone standing in the window. A woman with bright platinum hair.
From the dock, Seth yells out to you and you ignore him because you’re just not ready to deal with him yet, continuing to splash around in the lake instead. Seth strips down and dives in with you, popping up while your back is turned and you scream when he covers your eyes.
You’ve heard all the stories about this place. You’re not sure why you agreed to come out and rebuild it after hearing everything that went down. But here you are.
“Jesus Christ, Seth.”
He laughs and teases you. “Such a little baby.”
“Asshole.”
“Aw c’mon. Don’t tell me you believe that haunted camp bullshit like Colin and Phoebe.”
You don’t answer because you’re too busy scanning the shore because you’re almost positive you’ve seen the same guy you saw minutes after your arrival and you’re almost sure you saw him sitting on the shore. Staring at you intently. Like he’s watching you.
Seth is starting to get handsy, his usual trick of sex to make you forget whatever shitty thing he’s gone and done and you swat his hands away, giving him an irritated look. “Stop it, Seth. No.”
“Aw, c’mon, darlin. Nobody will ever know,” he mumbles as his finger trails over your panties just below the dark surface of the water and you try to squirm away, “All I have to do is pull your bottoms to the side.” he’s trying to kiss your neck and you finally shove him off.
“You didn’t just forget a date this time, asshole. You fucked our roommate. In our bed. Fuck off, Seth. We’re done.”
He throws up his hands and calls out calmly, “You say that until Captain Morgan gets involved, babe. You’ll be back. I’m the best you’ll ever have. You even said it yourself.”
“Fucking six seconds lasting motherfucker, I hate you.” you grumble under your breath as you hurry to re-dress and get as far away from Seth as you can manage.
In your annoyed huff you find yourself body to body with him.
The guy you’ve been catching glimpses of all day long. And he’s all sweet smiles and baby blues dancing over your body. Biting his lip.
“Can I help you, sir?” you ask, stepping away a little because he’s migrated closer to you.
Xavier sighs. “You shouldn’t be here.”
“Yeah, kind of figured that one out for myself. Now I’m stuck and when I do leave, if I can’t get an Uber, I’m spending four hours trapped in that piece of shit over there,” you point to the jacked up SUV and continue as you rub your forehead, “With that piece of shit out in the water.”
Xavier shakes his head and it’s almost sad in a way because he’s just got a really, really weird feeling about the group of you showing up here. Now.
“None of you should be here.”
Your brow raises. “What the hell does that mean?”
“You can’t tell me you don’t know what the fuck you’ve walked into, kitten.” Xavier responds. Seth has caught sight of you both and he’s angry, heading straight for you.
“The fuck is this shit, huh?”
You grumble. You’re also clinging a little closer to his body and Xavier can’t help the way it overwhelms him. He’s been so long without some kind of physical touch. It’s driving him fucking insane. And you seem scared of the guy barrelling towards you both. Maybe more angry than afraid, but that fear is there and it’s got your eyes a little wild, a little bigger.
Xavier slips his arm around you and plasters on his best smirk.
“Gonna stop you now, meathead.” he speaks up, voice smooth and calm as silk and you can’t help but notice that somehow, it’s got you both a little wet and slightly afraid at the same time. Because there’s something dangerous in that voice and the way he’s smirking. “I’m taking your girl.”
Seth chuckles. “Mhm, right. You’re not even her type.”
You speak up before you can stop yourself. One wrong word and the asshole will abandon you out here in the middle of fuckin nowhere and you know it. He’s done it before.
And in that moment, you realize that you’re pathetic. You keep letting Seth sweet talk you and love bomb you until you’re back to the same vicious cycle and it’s been this way since at least junior year of high school. But you’re finally ready to call it quits. For good. Because he might’ve been an asshole up to this point but up to this point he hadn’t cheated on you. And then been callous enough that he didn’t bother hiding it after the fact.
And you weren’t going to take anymore of it.
“Actually, dipshit..” you speak up and Seth’s gaze settles on you. “Go on then, have your fun. Fuck this out of your system, get even with me.”
“We’re over this time, Seth. I’m being serious.” you respond. And it’s so calm that Seth looks just a little panicked. After he walks away to sulk, you take a few ragged breaths and collapse onto the bank. A hand thrown over your forehead. On the one hand, it feels as if you’ve lost his exact body weight in bullshit and baggage. On the other hand, you’ve managed to fuck yourself out of a way home at the end of the week.
Xavier stands there, arms folded. Gazing down at you.
“Are you okay, darlin?” he sinks down to sit beside you.
“I will be.. I think. I mean as soon as I fucking hitchhike four hours home at the end of the week.”
,, If you live til then.” Xavier thinks to himself solemnly.
You prop on your elbow and turn to the side, raising up to look at him. “Are you with Habitat?”
Xavier wants to tell you the truth but he knows that’ll do him no good just yet. Maybe in a day or two. After the usual weird shit happens and you all notice it and begin to panic and react accordingly. Then maybe you’ll at least listen to reason if he gets a little closer.
And he can tell himself this is his only plan, to keep you safe, but deep down, he knows it’s because he wants you. Not forever.
For now.
So when you repeat your question and he’s finally not distracted enough by your pillowy lips to answer, he flashes you his best charmers smirk. “Yeah.” he laughs. “I uh.. Signed up for it late.”
You smile and nod. “Awesome.” but in the back of your mind something feels off. Between the cryptic statement he made earlier and the dangerous vibe you're kind of picking up from him, something just feels off.
“My name is Xavier, by the way, darlin.” he introduces himself, chuckling because he’s been out of humanity for so long it’s as if he’s forgotten all the manners beaten into him at a young age. He stands and holds out a hand to help you up and warily, you take it.
Something about his name sounds familiar but you don’t say anything.
Because right now, you’re just grateful he got rid of Seth for you. And he seems like a nice guy, even though you can feel the danger as it radiates off of him.
But you’re on defensive right now.
Maybe you’re just being paranoid.. Right?

some stray thoughts and opinions under the cut
my overall ranking for the series so far would be 4 > 1 >= 3 > 2. donna sweep babygirl
"i have brain damage" tier would've been called "the qpr meth has gotten to me" but then i remembered how absolutely glued to the screen i was for sound of drums <3 all of the other episodes there are either donna episodes or episodes where ten goes through horrors specifically bc donna isn't there and sound of drums is the exception lmao
by default i think simm!master is the best main villain in ten's run. he is still very goofy like the cybermen and the daleks (and 98% of the villains in this show really) but simm!master has that toxic doomed yaoi backing him and that means everything in the world. rtd drop your simm!master spotify playlist
it is SO CRAZY how an episode called "planet of the ood" can make me cry. but it did. and i love it for it. i love the ood so much. they are my little guys
stolen earth/journey's end was my least favorite arc in main series 4 - which is just a testament to how much i loved the rest of it lmao. like i still rly liked the finale, and the scene of davros pointing out that ten turned their friends into soldiers and how it was framed almost like they were being put on trial. Was so fucking juicy. but it felt overall like the story was doing that "trying to include everyone" thing and the pacing felt off as a result. like i rly needed the donna mind wipe scene to be longer it was goin so fast i couldn't process it
42 goes so crazy and i love it so much bc to me it is the defining tenmartha episode. you have that showcase of deep inherent trust, of swearing to save each other, of being the person the other needs bc is there anyone else. but you also have ten screaming at her to kill him so that he won't hurt anyone and then at the end, deflecting and refusing to talk w her about it. "burn with me martha" is like that previously-unspoken-now-brought-to-front undercurrent to their whole relationship and ten says it while being possessed by a rageful vindictive sun. waow
i really dislike the temporary companions (astrid and christina in voyage of the damned and planet of the dead respectively). not the characters themselves but the timing and role they have in the story and how they're framed. i do understand that part of ten's character is that he gets attached very easily and can't stand being on his own, but also for astrid this was directly post-martha where ten's realized he's been fucking up her life by acting the way he did. and for christina this was post-donna and pre-time-lord-victorious. forming a friendship that ends w/ tragedy or ten pushing them away i can see, but romantic tension is pushing it HARD. which leads me to my next deranged point
ten is aroace to me i'm so sorry society he clocked the aroace meter the minute the story decided to introduce donna and then in series 4 make them the soulmates of all time while there isnt a HINT of romantic tension between them. and there is something so narratively aspec about ten being created by and for love but sometimes his love isn't enough/isn't the right kind and everyone will leave or find someone else. being an alien can be a metaphor for being aroace if i'm crazy enough about it (and also if their humanity is a constant theme to their arc that is hammered in time and time again)
i forgot i was supposed to talk about the episodes hold on a second
one of the most out of body experiences i had was watching love and monsters, really quite liking it (despite finding the ending weird) because it's a grounded and solid episode w strong characterization and really great jackie and rose moments, only to find out this episode is nearly universally despised by the dr who fanbase. help girl
the human ten arc probably has the most underrated villains in the show. i just really love that concept of monsters that need to eat timelords in order to survive, and ten giving them one chance to be spared of his rage and die peacefully by turning himself into a human for a hot minute. it's just really neat idk.
time lord victorious my babygirl. like oh my god i was wondering for the entire time how the fuck does ten go from "vain/overconfident but at heart always driven by his love for others" to "god complex" and the answer to this question is "you take away everyone he cares about and make him watch more and more people die in front of him until he just fucking snaps". at the end of waters of mars i was almost expecting him to knock 4 times on the tardis door himself and was so glad it didnt happen. etc etc. i'm also really glad that it doesn't last for more than 5 minutes. what he does essentially haunts him for the rest of his (short) life and that's so so important
end of time part 2 doesn't get a ranking. it is simultaneously the best episode and worst episode. it made me cry my eyes out three separate times. like it's not even an episode anymore it's like an experience. specifically one akin to watching a good friend you made over the course of 16 days die in front of you. i felt my soul being sucked out and i wont ever feel anything again (until the 60th anniversary specials fix me). god fucking bless
but pairing up martha and mickey out of nowhere was so so fucking bad and i need to actually murder whoever made that decision

Why Marichat/Ladynoir/Adrienette/Love Square/Etc is shit - a submission-based essay, part 2/2
Whatever the fuck it's called - a canon (endgame?) het ship from the Miraculous Ladybug fandom between Marinette (Ladybug) Dupain-Chang and Adrien (Chat Noir) Agreste
The narrative puts a lot of comparisons between her feelings toward Adrien and Adrien's Supervillain father's feelings toward Adrien's (presumably dead) mother, without ever really calling attention to the fact that marinette's kind of descending into unhealthy areas. Much like Adrien's entitlement to Ladybug, Marinette's obsession is never called out as anything other than to either point and laugh at or coo over how 'devoted' it is. Also all of those words i gave you up top about marinette being overworked with too much responcibility on her back were only about 5% of episodes 10% are friend drama, and the other 85% have something to do with Adrien or Chat Noir in a significant way in marinette's plot. this show couldn't pass the bechdel test ONCE. Not to mention that literally everyone except for the 'mean cruel bullies that only want Adrien for themselves' all SUPER TOTALLY SHIP THEM YOU GUYS. At one point a normal kid also wanted to date adrien but when she broke up with him she immediately turned to marinette and said 'hes perf for u tho sweetie' literally at one point in a special two new characters are introduced and spend 90% of their time on screen trying to get them together, not for some sort of 'oh we already knew marinette or adrien and we want them together bc they'll be happy' no literally these two complete strangers look at these two complete strangers and go 'Oh those two are MEANT TO BEEEE' and go out of their way to matchmake alongside their friends. Speaking of their friends a lot of Marinette's schemes to woo Adrien aren't even her own, they're mostly orchestrated by her friend group to where Marinette is a reluctant at best patron of. (except for when she makes wooing plans on her own then her friends think it's annoying and that they have better things to do point and laugh at the cringe please) at two separate points the show goes out of its way to be like 'if you two get together rn the whole world is doomed btw' one of which it's implied to have pretty seriously traumatized marinette btw, but please keep pointing and laughing at her venting to what she believes to be a wax replica of Adrien and nerely kissing him only to reveal it was Actual adrien that whole time pretending to be a wax statue for... idk to mess with marinette? she clearly thought she was alone and was spinning her private thoughts and he doesn't even apologize for what was technically an innocent prank that went way too far too quick But never mind all that never mind all that because they had enough 'cute' scenes in the first two seasons that the fans at this point are so thoroughly emotionally invested that they scream about it anyway no matter how it's going to get. #niceguy that unironically says m'lady and stalker with a stutter are MEANT TO BEEEEEEEE and if you even imply otherwise on a twitter post the literal showrunner will subtweet you calling you an idiot that doesn't understand the nuances of his perfect flawless never bad ever ever ever show.

No I need every trigun thought you have bc wolfwood’s character is tragic like vash. This whole crew is just messed up and I need to see thoughts and feelings!!!
before anyone says anything you asked so i am answering. i talked about how insane it makes me that wolfwood is literally doomed by the narrative. both in the manga and stampede (sorry to those who think he'll make it out alive in stampede. he's dying.) our first look at him in both the manga AND stampede is seeing him carrying his own grave marker (which i could write a whole paper about just in the fact that it's literally a cross and a fucking machine gun!!!!!). it's representative of the lives he's taken and a tangible manifestation of his sins and guilt that is pointed out as extremely heavy by others. i think in the manga the only other person capable of picking the punisher up is vash??? (which makes me even more crazier bc what do you think that represents huh). the thing about wolfwood is that not only is he a character foil to vash, he completes vash in a way that only he can. only wolfwood can take the lives vash cannot in order to save people, which is something vash finally acknowledges during their fight with leonof the puppet master. i think the absolute saddest thing about wolfwood's character is that he is absolutely a caretaker at heart and violence is not at all inherent to his nature. in the orphanage he grew up in he cooked he took care of the younger children he helped the women out!!! thematically the orphanage he grew up in being the place of his last stand makes so much sense. he fights and dies to protect the orphanage and all the children (yes this includes livio). not to quote myself here but:
ww’s death doubles as salvation and tragedy. somewhere along the way of meeting vash and being witness to his unconditional love and forgiveness for humanity he found it easier to hope!!!! to begin to think that he could be saved. and that’s how he dies.

I love your posts about Denethor and Faramir. I'm always glad to see someone who loves both him and Faramir and gets that Denethor being this hugely impressive tragic figure makes Faramir so much better and more interesting. The relationship between them is so complex and I love it so much. The film versions make me angry as well.

yeah exactly what you said...denethor's tragedy informs and is informed by faramir so so so much and it's just kind of wild to me that on the tragedy enjoyers website so many people refuse to see it. on the second-best enjoyers website...the guilt-and-despair enjoyers website...the "the unimaginable has happened and i AM going to kill people and then myself" enjoyers website...i could go on! he is literally doomed by the narrative and just goes well ok fuck you i WILL die at the end but it will NOT be in the way the narrative wants me to.
it is truly the relationship of all time. faramir does love his father and yet because of the strength of his principles he is genuinely incapable of showing it in a way that denethor can understand. and denethor loves him too but after a certain point just cannot show it anymore because duty has to take precedence. he's not allowed to give faramir any quarter even in private. and YES that includes anything that would resemble a normal emotion. ngl i wouldn't be surprised if that's the only way faramir is like. LETTING him communicate with him. like i feel like the final assault on osgiliath is not the first time faramir's taken the "if you want to get me to do something you ARE going to have to order me to do it" stance. and yet denethor tries. at the end he takes trying to an unhinged level. idk it often feels like even in the general fandom insistance on one-dimensionally dickish denethor there's somehow also a lack of understanding that it IS a toxic expression of love but that doesn't make it not love. like He's Not Winning Dad Of The Year that is not what we're saying at all. we're saying is "it was born of love. it was a terrible thing yet born of love." thats all! that's why it's so tragic because it's all about love!!! augh...
ok i don't typically put quotations from my own writing in like real posts but also ive been thinking about the faramir goes to rivendell au 24/7 and i just. HAVE to pull this line bc it kind of captures exactly how i feel about the denethor-and-faramir mutual Character Honing.
Yet he [Faramir] cannot deny that each of them sharpens himself upon the whetstone of the other, and it is a debt he loathes to owe and yet cannot hope to repay.
i mean.......like are you picking up what im putting down! like! AAA! both in-narrative and out of it they are always ALWAYS making each other better (or worse. but worse in a More Interesting Way) but AT WHAT COST!!! he loves his father he would not be the man he is today without his father both in a good and bad way he HATES that these two things are true. faramir and denethor are not foils they're parallels they build each other's characters up when you put them next to each other!! faramir is who denethor wouldve couldve been without the war!! hey hang on a second is denethor who faramir would've become if he were the lord steward during the war of the ring? (this is a little reductive i think faramir's susceptibility to despair is quite different to his father's. and i wonder how long his gentleness would've prevailed / worked side by side with his duty instead of being diametrically opposed to it. but anyway. well i'll be thinking about THAT for the rest of the night. i cannot start another au i cannot i cannot i cannot). anyway you can't get one of them without getting the other and that is all...
man i always say like oh don't get me started on movie faramir and denethor and then the don't think of an elephant effect GETS me and it gets me started. last night i genuinely said like "well i won't get into it" and then three hours later it was 2am and it was so very clear that i had Gotten Into It. i had to tell our other roommate like "tell me when ur going to bed i am talking about denethor and i will be yelling." my roommate just came home and i told her about this post and then i had to explain a detail and she SET ME A THREE MINUTE TIMER bc she was like i have to go study. and that's fair

How about Kaycee for the ask game?
KAYCEE I love her let’s go
Favorite thing about them: I love how blatant it is that Kaycee just says “wouldn’t it be cool if—“ before everything she does. In the base game, all of Leshy’s cards (barring the rare cards) are based upon Canadian wildlife you’d realistically find around the BC area… not Kaycee’s additions. She adds a Central American mud turtle, a European lammergeier, and not one, but TWO extinct animals (the wild bull and dire wolf), not to mention the challenges themselves. She’s very clearly just shoving some of her favorite things into the game to say “look! I think you’ll like this too” and it’s so fun to me.
Least favorite thing about them: I love Kaycee. She’s wonderful. But holy shit does some of the lore in KMod fuck everything up. Inscryption was developed in the 90s but KMod seems to imply it was developed in the 2000s where she would’ve met Luke? Not to MENTION the partial retcon of the Scrybes fighting each other for control for years (granted that can be chalked up to an oversight on Kaycee’s part wherein Leshy’s takeover was just the first takeover she noticed, but still).
Favorite line: Kaycee being pissed that Leshy beheaded her self-insert will never not be funny.
brOTP: This is such an “I’m sure everyone is going to answer with this” type of answer, but Kaycee and Leshy’s friendship means so much to me. Inscryption really said “here is a person who has dedicated his entire purpose to the existence of someone doomed to never see his work and here is another person who sees why he was doomed to never be seen by human eyes and she indulges anyway out of love for what he has created and out of love for their shared company” and then just subtly put it in the background of the narrative. Leshy just wanted to play his game and Kaycee wholeheartedly wanted to play with him, listening to his suggestions and using her own skills to add things she thought he’d like (in addition to the challenges that were just for her let’s be real). The game really stresses that Leshy—despite, by design, not really caring for anything outside of the game—saw her not just as the challenger he’d hoped for but, above all else, a friend and that means so much.
Having said that, I do dunk on Kaycee a little bit for not destroying a malevolent supernatural force trapped inside a floppy disk because her best friend was also on it but then again I think that would’ve been even worse if she destroyed it and then died anyway. Inscryption isn’t a game where anyone wins but that definitely would’ve been even more of a loss for everyone involved.
OTP: As per usual in this category I don’t really ship Kaycee with anyone.
nOTP: I’m not a fan of Kaycee and Leshy in a romantic sense. Them being friends just means a lot more to me.
Random headcanon: I mentioned with Luke that proximity to the old_data (filtered via Inscryption) sort of messes with the human body after a while and that’s… much more true for Kaycee than it is for Luke. Normally the old_data is a corrupting force that would want to turn whatever’s closest to it into a suitable host should it have to jump ship, but Leshy’s takeover of the game sort of interrupts that process and instead causes any changes to reflect his version of the game instead. It gets to a point where she actually has to wear her glasses to work otherwise she’s certain her coworkers will notice that her eyes have begun to shine in the dark like those of a wild animal.
(Worth noting there’s Zero canon basis for any of this; normally I try to keep my headcanons pretty grounded in canon but I hate the ARG as a whole and also how it explains it instead of keeping it as something undefinable so I’m doing whatever I want with the concept of the OLD_DATA. It’s the haunted cartridge equivalent of an eldritch horror to me. The Scrybes are all sending out fishing lines and hacking off pieces of it to use for their own means, not because it’s corrupted them but because they feel they have to. It is still alive. Hope this helps.)
Unpopular opinion: This isn’t an unpopular opinion in the slightest, I’m just pretty sure I’m the only person who gives Kaycee glasses. Probably because she pretty visibly doesn’t have them in her portrait, but she just seems like she’d be someone who needs glasses and Never Wears Them—she’s nearsighted and she’s a programmer, she doesn’t need to see far away (read: yes she does).
Song I associate with them: I have a lot of Kaycee songs (I have playlists for a lot of these characters admittedly but I’m just bad at picking songs to share from them) but my go-tos are Flight of the Crows by Jhariah (just general energy idk), The Most Peculiar Day of Your Life by The Hoosiers (works for any of the protagonists but I feel it aligns especially well with some of Kaycee’s entries), and Frozen Pines by Lord Huron. As a bonus, I associate Betrayed by Bones by Hellogoodbye with her, but I don’t really have an explanation for that one.
Favorite picture of them: There’s technically only one picture of Kaycee in-game (and I don’t even know if it’s canonically confirmed to be Kaycee… then again, who else could it possibly be). But I’m counting her Deathcard in this too. The head it uses is also called “the wildling” which is so fun

hiiii so you sound like you know what you’re talking about when it comes to classpects, do you have any advice on finding out what your classpect is? bc the official test has never been very accurate for me and I wanna knoooooooooooooow
hoo boy. okay. first, i jokingly reject the insinuation that i have ever known what i was talking about when it comes to anything, ever. second, i sincerely reject the idea that my interpretations of classpects are the inherently correct ones. i'm pretty damn good at extrapolation from a few pieces when it comes to systems like this- which is a key part of how i identified what i consider to be my own classpect- but there are definitely people who have thought harder and longer about this than me.
that said, you're asking me, not them, so fuck it, i'll do my best. probably the best way to start is to describe how i typically arrive at a fictional character's classpect.
the most important thing when determining a classpect is that they are about arcs and methods of dealing with obstacles, not powers or skillsets, and definitely not personalities. however, considering any decent narrative will have the arc and the power/skillset run parallel (or perpendicular, which is just as notable), it's not like you can't look at the power. it should just serve as a starting point, not justification for the classpect in itself. same deal for the personality, but to a far lesser extent; there's a lot of room for variation there, and it shouldn't be relied upon.
so. each aspect has a set of associations. if you've read the golden compass, think of them like the symbols on the alethiometer. thankfully, as there are only twelve, the meanings are less specific and numerous than that. they have to be, in order to be used to describe effectively any sort of character arc. however, as they come in pairs, they can also be cut in half and addressed as six concepts, with opposing views on the same idea making up a sort of scale. i'll summarize them as briefly as i can, which isn't very.
space/time is creation and destruction, raw possibility and death by inevitable entropy. it may seem like time has the upper hand here, but remember that the vast majority of a story is made up of parts other than the ending.
heart/mind describes two opposing (more or less, anyway) views of the self. heart is the idea that there is a single you, a single soul with identifiable traits regardless of circumstances. mind is the idea that each of our choices irrevocably shape who we are, to the point where the question of the self is more a question of timing and circumstance.
light/void is about knowledge and lack thereof. light also contains luck, and in particular the idea that luck and knowledge aren't at all different. (vriska never understood that bit; aranea and rose, on the other hand, very much did.) void is that which is hidden, forgotten, indescribable, or paradoxical. it is the set of all sets and simultaneously nothing at all. confused? then you're getting it.
hope/rage is about emotion, the former viewing them as something by which the world is shaped, the latter viewing them as something by which the world shapes others. hope is singular, unrelenting, and without restraint. rage is multitudinous, erratic, and chaotic. note that i didn't say that one is positive and the other is negative, as much as they seem to be that way.
blood/breath is about connections, differing in how they are viewed. blood argues that being part of a society, living alongside others, and conforming to expectations can be a source of strength or a source of suffering, and that change must come to all if it comes to one. breath, on the other hand, says that an individual can bring about change independently, rejecting every notion of what others expect or even the very idea that anything at all must follow a pattern or be predictable.
life/doom is about rules and restrictions. doom would see everything as part of the same interlocking system, with defiance of the system being yet another part of the system. (i am doom through and fucking through. the fact that i see the aspects falling into this nicely organized arrangement, not to mention that i've pieced this all together from an incomplete set of data, should make this blindingly obvious.) life would encourage the breaking of rules, growth without limit, and the determination of one's own destiny regardless of that which would get in the way.
so. in the shortest possible terms: creation, self, knowledge, emotion, connection, restriction. which one dominates a character's arc? that should be your starting point.
as for classes, i'm going to be honest and say that my knowledge here is lacking. aspects are far more important, anyway. i'd point you to the homestuck wiki page on the subject. i may not agree with everything it says, but it's close enough. the main question you should be asking here, having identified a character's aspect, is: how do they interact with it? what do they do, both in general and in the critical point(s) of their arc?
if a character sacrifices themselves in some way, you're likely looking at a knight or a muse. note: they should be, in some way or another, sacrificing themselves in the context of their aspect. cassandra from the tangled series is a knight of rage, and in an attempt to become the villain and sacrifice herself for those she loved, she intentionally allowed her negative emotions to override her positive ones. she had to be the villain, not just pretend. (she wasn't very good at it, but she sure tried, and that's what counts.) xion from kingdom hearts is a muse of void, as she willingly gave up her entire self, returned to nothing, knowing she would even be obliterated from the memories of others, in order to forward the cause of everyone else.
someone who causes destruction is likely or prince or a bard. i have two examples from miraculous ladybug for you. adrien agreste is a prince of doom, not because he has literal destruction powers, but because he lives a life of suffocating restraint, and his entire arc is about breaking down those limitations. this is also a notable case of the class sort of inverting the aspect, as while his arc screams life at first glance, the way he goes about it makes him a prince, and therefore he must be a prince of doom. (side note: if someone ever tries to talk about something called "inversion theory" to you, throw something heavy at them.) anyway, lila rossi is a bard of blood. she is a master of the social game, but only pokes and prods the exact right places in order to cause people to turn on each other. it may or may not be worth noting that she's managed to do the same to the fandom itself, not just the characters, which is pretty impressive.
that's honestly enough on classes, or it will have to be lest this post reach such absurd proportions that even i would hesitate to read it. let's move on to the last step: applying all of this to real people.
again, recall that this is not a personality test. i am a mage of doom, one who seeks out the rules and uses them to my advantage, but despite very much appreciating the lad, i am not that much like sollux. i'm not entirely dissimilar, but i'm far closer in personality to both lalondes.
the tricky part of identifying a classpect for yourself, or any other still-living person, is that whatever arc they have is, very obviously, incomplete. some arcs do not even end with one's death; what one's life ends up meaning to others may be a critical part of the equation. (though as mentioned previously, most of a story is made of up parts other than the ending, so you should be able to get a pretty good idea from whatever pieces you do have. or at least, i can do that, because as stated, i am very much doom-aligned.) furthermore, this being real life and not a narrative, arcs may be difficult to distinguish. as such, it's important to ask what you yourself think your arc is, or by what means you navigate the world. no one is going to know better than you, and your perception of yourself, once defined in this way, will likely go on to shape your actions in that direction.
as is abundantly clear by now, i am obsessed with how things work. i can take an incomplete system and extrapolate until it's complete, accounting for all or virtually all of the data points. my best skillset is that of an editor, because when it comes to writing i know all the rules. all of them, even. unlike one more life-aligned, however, i view the deliberate breaking of the rules to be just another application of the rules themselves. if the rules could be truly broken, they would not be the rules. so that's how i work, how i approach any obstacle. i figure out what the rules are, then i choose a course of action to accomplish my goal based on that. just because i may intentionally throw a wrench in a given system in order to serve a given purpose doesn't mean i'm defying the system, it means that i am using the fact that the system is vulnerable to thrown wrenches, a known feature of the system, to my advantage.
so. hopefully this should give you some idea of how to start. if you struggle with personal identity, unsure of what defines you, you might be on the heart/mind scale. if most of the challenges in your life involve other people, you might be on the blood/breath scale, and so on and so forth.

I haven’t seen this nsfw ask game so I don’t quite know what you guys are talking about but I have opinions on my favorite boy Venti when it comes to kinks.
Everyone loves to say that Venti’s a sub, but they hardly ever go into the specifics. Personally, I think he’s into the hardcore stuff. I just really like the irony of the god of freedom being desperate to be controlled, restrained, and owned by someone. So a master/slave dynamic. He’d be nothing but eager to surrender himself.
Branching off from irony, he’d like to have a god/servant dynamic, except he’s the one doing the worshiping. I think this would actually tie into gaining freedom for him. The role of a god is a lot. It’s very restrictive, and even in such a high position celestia still pulls your strings. Being able to give that burden up, even for a little while and be on the opposite side of things would feel so good. Plus I think he’d be really good at worship.
In a twisted sort of way, giving up your free will to another is a form a freedom. It’s freedom from the burden of conscientiousness. From having to make difficult decisions. From the harsh realities of life.
Also a pet play kink. You were so right about that collar thing earlier. It’d be like a physical symbol of him giving away his freedom. He’d make such a good puppy. Wants to be called good boy. Wants to be pulled around on a leash. Again, I think he’d like the dynamic of being owned. This one (and all of them honestly) is about taking on a new identity. Being able to forget who he is and just be something else. A slave, a worshipper, a puppy, a toy. And being useful to someone. Making them happy, making them feel good. That’s part of the reason why he’s a bard in the first place.
I honestly didn’t mean to psychoanalyze him. He’s just pathetic and tortured and doomed by the narrative and thus fun to psychoanalyze. You don’t have to agree with all this btw, you can add whatever you want, these are just my thoughts.

i agree with you on venti wanting to be able to forget who he is and just be something else and making other ppl feel good, but i see it more in him wanting to get his brains fucked out, like, this is why he's drinking until he blacks out, and yeah, i too think he's into hardcore stuff, but more in a way of like, gangbang with 5 strangers on video
and yeah, he's into roleplay for sure, but the dynamics you describe require long term commitment and i think venti cannot commit consistently, thats one of his many unhealthy results of trauma of being pathetic and tortured and doomed by the narrative (and knowing it), like the entire Mond archon quest happened bc he befriended and then abandoned dvalin.
so i personally think that venti's pattern is being super intense and hardcore while he's with you, like yeah he'll let you do anything and will play whatever role, pet, worshipper, slave, but he'll leave in the middle of the night without saying goodbye, ghost for like forever and then one night he'd drunk texting you while sitting on your doorstep and he's apologetic and pathetic and ready to do anything for you again. i feel like thats the venti experience tbh
