(paraphrased from several months ago on the old tumblr)
kyman headcanon #1
Cartman fell first, Kyle fell harder
Basically Cartman's subconsciously hadda crush on Kyle since they was like nine or so. An open secret throughout classmates and the town in general. He's more comfortable and public about ts as we've seen in the panderverse special, s16 ep7, and tho not kyman specific-- sometimes in the earlier szns Cart'd drop an "i love you guys" to be met with a 😐 from the other three. But yea slower buildup to the realization until it's gone way too far to back out
Kyle can't help knowin that. He choose to gaslight himself to avoid confrontin his feelings on the matter. Won't acknowledge any connotations. Only thin Cartman-related he'll dwell on is 'omfg i hate that guy'. Obvious hints is ignored straight after being picked up. When he finally does grasp the fact they both gay for eachother, Kyle has a whole fifth life crisis
Issa long process; and despite his own impatience, Cartman'll wait years if thats what it takes

SO I HAVE BEEN TYPING UP ALL MY THOUGHTS AS I WATCHED HERE YA GO EPISODE 1 COMMENTARY IS POSTED A FEW HOURS AGO and as i watched i got more tired and less wanting to write stuff down
ep3: "burying their feelings"… come on. this whole storyline is just dumb. these kids are actually smart, barring spider of course. like they know by then that the patriarchy is bullshit, right? this whole "men biologically stronger thing", right? this whole "we're men we do this" thing. like c'mon malakai doesn't actually believe this shit…?
(oh also just thinking about ca$h & how darren kinda almost believed chook and how that literally wouldn't make sense cuz he's asexual but also chook was being really traumatising assault-y in that moment so it kinda makes sense if that shook darren and they are prepared to believe the worst of ca$h)
watching this season i am actually full of anxiety half the time. this is rly frustrating. i rly hate this cumlords storyline like it just feels so ooc for many boys the quinni scenes are my only solace
heh! ca$h doing the cook "fuck it" thing with the drugs CA$H ON DRUGS SCENE IS PURE ART
no seriously i rly don't like this season maybe i'm not high enough or maybe i'm not in the right frame of mind but i LOVED the first season but the second one is… idk. giving so much space to boys being patriarchal storyline like i don't fucking care about this ffs
amerie & quinni shenanigans are the best :D these two are such gremlins together
ep4: quinni is literally the highlight of this whole season right now
is no one gonna talk about how timothy is here talking over jojo and interrupting her plans and demeaning her and touching her in a patronising way? what if jojo did this to him. hm?
is everyone seriously that dumb to blame amerie for a recording someone else played during the activity?
ep5: well, i guess jojo is getting roped into this once again and is blamed for this misogynist white man's mistakes. anything else new?
oof feeling quinni a lot ca$h & quinni quality time let's have it
ohhh, i knew quinni was gonna have a moment like this.💚💚💚💚 :'( it was the buildup, i felt that hard (also i love frogs too!!)
ep6: i live how darren is so smell sensitive
LOL 2minute sex love it
ep7:
quinni is everything i am crying
ep8:
darren really out here with the puriteens with a bag that says "god's favorite" i love them
quinni literally just saved two people's lives, three by proxy she literally fucking ran into a burning building and saved lives
annyyyyyways ok that is done
um, final thoughts: there was no sasha redemption arc. she kind of stayed flat as a character, just self-centred. sad, but oh well.
after the whole cumlords storyline eased up i didn't feel so anxious anymore. glad voss got what he fucking deserved.
ca$h & darren endless drama, what else is new BUT all these new scenes give new fodder for wonderful AMVs (that are not anime lol) btw i love them your hunour i still love the love these two share
now i'll go back to my old post and see what parts of the list got ticked off

i’ve rewatched episodes 6-7 while sedated on a mix of painkillers and alcohol and i did enjoy them more this time around lol
i still think the show would have benefitted a lot from some more time (both episodes but also like in universe time) for many things including antagonist buildup, ed’s probation, izzy arc, and stede and ed’s conflict but like. i also love them and enjoy seeing them all on my screen so 🫶🏼
also i gotta say zheng yi sao is so good i love her! would watch a whole show about her for sure. the way i wanna cry for her at the end of ep7 🥺

Fruits Basket Manga Review , ch 109
-The Tragedy of a an episodic format attempting to connect narrative in a series: (Tohru’s Background or Kyo’s Focus?)
One of my issues with se03, ep6 (other than it being 3 chapters combined horribly with new material added for shock value) is that it was weakly undecided who would be the focus? who would the narrative follow?: Is it tohru’s own pov abt herself? is it the gramps giving boring exposition abt tohru over weak still images of flashbacks or is kyo thinking abt tohru’s pain?
The truth is, it was all the above in the manga, but the manga gave each a chapter focus so that the chapter is well-directed with focused narrative. The anime weakly jumbled the 3 chapters together as they always do. You mix chapters & tada~ you got an ep, you only need a broad weak theme that connects the dots! here: it is tohru! & that’s it. As long as the 3 chapters discuss tohru in any form & manner, nothing will seem off if we put them next to each other in a 20 minute ep! right? riiiiiight ????
.. this was never a correct way. Just like a chapter needed a narrative direction, the ep is the same!!
ch 107: The beginning of tohru’s pov on her realization abt loving kyo.
ch108: tohru’s full pov of shock upon reaching the conclusion that she loves him & the beginning of her mom’s issues & abandonment.
ch109: Kyo’s pov abt tohru’s pain & his involvement, guil & the sheet hug.
ch110: (completely cut from the anime!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Kyoru’s part: the aftermath of kyo & tohru crossing the line of being in the most vulnerable & intimate, building towards a more crushing impact of the climax. The stronger & more painful their love is, the more it will hurt. Also a yuchi buildup?!!!!
-so, you see each chapter has a direction i& a narrative it follows independently that is weaved together to make a connected tissue of the overall plot. The anime puts the 3 chapters next to each other & we are lost on who to follow? kyo or tohru or the gramps. That’s why it feels tohru is weak & her two chapters worth of pov is stolen from her cuz it cut or shortened to include the grandpa, kyo, isuzu, shigure & let’s not forget (kazuma, yuki & haru) at the beginning, the dramatic shock value addition & OP & ED. All these take valuable screen time. The ep shocks us by moving from tohru to kyo. One minute she’s crying with him on the streets, next he’s at the grave & she’s visiting isuzu.
Kyo said he isn't going to the grave in the ep, upon seeing him actually going, I just assumed he wanted to avoid, hana, cuz I’m so invested in his story that I remember sth happened in se1, ep 14.. ages ago, The anime didn’t even allow kyo to inner talk abt avoiding hana... In their weird mind, kyo only inner talks in dramatic situations..See the difference!
Tumblr media
Not only the writer (a) reminds us why kyo avoided the grave visit, she also (b) seized the opportunity to shine lifht onto an issue that will be the center of kyo’s struggles: Running away!
The anime introduce this in kyo’s pov only when kyo confronts tohru. Only when it was needed & couldnt be avoided. This is sth that will be the core of all the climax & the aftermath as well! Kyo running away.. How bad are you if you avoid inserting one line only that can be said in few seconds & establish great deal & foreshadow plenty!!!!!!!!!! I can’t for the life of my understand why short lines are cut from kyo when in the anime they have him be standing silent in the graveyard. Like slap the line above the silent scene!!!!! But doing so means the anime team understands tohru & kyo’s issues. They don’t. Not the slightest.
-Ep 6 signals the beginning of the anime moving from episodic format of se1, 2 & 5 eps of se3 & entering a connect plot. The anime doesn’t know how to do that & screwed tohru in the process. The protagonist’s main issues are one ep worth only. The antagonist main issues are one ep only (ep7).  Ep 6, was treated as a stand alone ep (minus the inserted shock scene to create a lingering issue that needs a following ep to explain. TOLD YOU they don’t know how to make a series!). Thus the following ep 7 is akito’s focus. Everything that was established in ep 6 was pit on hold until akito reaches the craziest mindset for the climax. See why ep 6 was so bad? it is Should NOT be a stand alone ep.
-The plot connects kyoru emotional & physically: (Kyo’s chapter with a tohru’s focus:
Unlike the anime, the chapter knows what it’s presenting 7 where it’s going. Kyo’s issues. This ch focuses on him uncovering parts of his past as it connects with tohru’s. Unlike the anime, we know why kyo's connection to kyoko’s past. The anime is hiding this for the climax, no problem, it can still work both ways. However, hiding kyoko /kyo connection doesn't necessarily mean hiding kyoko/tohru connection. But the anime is cutting this to milk it in an ova or series next year~ no problem,  it can still work if you handle this ep’s  flashback better. for all the artistic creativity they inserted in the added scene, they failed miserably in tohru’s flashback portion. how?
By choosing a frontal pov shot in tohru’s grandpa flashback as if the audience are the ones who abandoned tohru or opening the door to find her alone. it does NOT work at all. why? the audience are encouraged to be like tohru since ep 1 as tohru is the mother, angel, fixer & endearing hopeful girl. The audience will NEVER abandon tohru, that’s why tohru’s story felt disconnected & weak in the anime. Not knowing what kyoko did, who would abandon such child?! differently not us. so why use the frontal pov shot? -_-’
-tohru confesses her pain to kyo without being ushered by isuzu, without any outside factor. She simply visited the grave & came home. hiding her pain. once again. like she always do. One question by kyo, prompts her to “ complain a little” call back to se1, ep5 as he advised. we see tohru get out of her shell little by little. NOT SCREAM OR SLAP. She opened up. why? cuz the story is abt “ opening the lid” not abt “ snatching the lid”. No need for shocks. Yuki opened his lide slowly, tohru even slower, kyo is resisting opening his altho it is cracking in this chapter. When your story focuses on character buildup it pays!
Tumblr media
-I’ll give the anime credit when it due. The hug scene is so good both in manga & anime. but so awesome in animation, colors, music & voice acting. It’s breathtaking & painful. The most beautiful kyoru scene in the whole anime.
-It represents their mutual vulnerability, understanding, pain & determination to love the other but not also let go. kyo has made his mind to be locked in order not to hurt tohru & tohru has made her mind that she can’t let go of her mom.
You see, the scene’s meaning hits different between manga & anime; In the anime: tohru has already challenged the sohmas & screamed to be with kyo, while kyo is still decided to leave her. In the manga: they’re both at the same spot (undecided). I like both interpretations but I’ll choose the manga’s version. Simply cuz it means tohru is still uncovering her issues which means more focus on her, & more explanation of why cant tohru love her mom & kyo at the same time.
Tumblr media
-This expression on tohru’s face is a the complete opposite of the shock value expression in ep 6! T_T. I do’nt even hate the shocked scene addition itself that much, I just think (a) this is NOT its time! Tohru deserved better spotlight! (b) kyo didn’t friggen forget! ah! THIS I HATE! (c) the whole shocked scene was so wasted in ep 7. tohru return to her stupid dumb lalala~ land, cooking & forgetting kyo. what growth? what determination & screams to isuzu? what enduring kagura’s slaps? nope! just happy & cooking, lalala~ no one was freaking over her mom’s picture~ lalala~ & kyo just slept it over~ shhhh... its okay. he’ll forget again... see? totally wasted!
The anime knows nothing abt connected narrative! augh!
Side Notes:
We see kyo asking the gramps why he’s offering him info abt tohru which is so logical! XD. I love it.
I’ve read ch 110 & wanted to insert the kyoru scene in ch 110 here, & put yuchi alone in a different post, then I realized I’ll need to talk abt it again once I analyze yuki’s own expressions! XD. so, I’ll put all ch 110 together in one post. It kinda half written by now, so I’ll publish it very soon in two days time. I didn’t read ch 111 yet tho.
I hope ch 110 is the last I feel this much disappointments in furuba’s anime & by ch 11, it hopefully be be minor changes altho I doubt that cuz the manga needed to dwell into tohru’s mindset & the anime kinda stopped after ep 6. so, yup! more big changes coming!
The sheet hug is so brilliant in theory & application! so romantic & so endearing! love it so much! The anime did it so well, too!
I love kyo’s narration & pov cuz it’s so refreshing change from the anime where he rarely does!
I really wish they kept the kyoko abandoning tohru part in the anime... sigh~ it has nothing much to affect her story with katsuya. so it won’t ruin the spin off/ ova or whatever it’s called.
I love the light focus on tohru in this chapter & how organic & natural it is opposed to how forced the plot seems in the anime....

RWBYlog vol 4, eps 4-7
I get the intention behind Tai being a jerk to Yang and why she laughs it off (friendly haha shitkicking dynamic), but I feel we needed to uh… know Tai better before the conversation with Yang about losing braincells with her arm (and calling her PTSD moping), because he sounds like an insensitive fuckup when I’m sure the intention is “local dad cares but doesn’t know how to deal with sudden trauma, uses levity to cope” (I’m the same way)
If Tai is such good pals with Port and Oobleck, how have Ruby and Yang not met them before Beacon…
Qrow and Raven have an intense rapport. The writing in this show improves when children aren’t in the scene.
Why the White Fang is suddenly waving around cult aesthetics is beyond me and is really, really not a good look. Brother Taurus, Sister Illia…
Also RT remembers that they wrote Adam being forced into working for Cinder last volume, right?
This would be a good time to do a splinter between the WF into two factions and go from there but uh, lol.
So, Sun going “Menagerie doesn’t look that bad!” (and being right, besides overpopulation, and Blake admitting it’s the principle of the matter) along with Jacques talking about how Faunus get equal wages while the WF start looking like a cult isn’t a great vibe for the Fang in general. Once again, the plight of the Faunus looks like the Fang overreacting. The most dubious part is Menagerie itself.
If Blake is pseudo nobility that lived in Menagerie, what’s with the vol 1 flashback of her as a poor battered little ragamuffin going to “every protest”? Wouldn’t they have to be protests on the mainland?
I feel using Sun as a window into what his fellow Faunus are going through is a good idea, because it seems things are radically different between regions. However, they kind of drop that angle in favour of “Adam Bad, Adam’s White Fang Bad, White Fang Bad”
Weiss’ breakdown was rushed. Story of this show. Her relationship with Jacques was barely built up before she started singing ‘This Life is Mine’… while she did what Jacques told her to do.
Her relationship with Jacques in ep7 explains why she does what she does, but again, the buildup to Weiss’ explosion is so rushed that it doesn’t feel like decent payoff. We barely know Jacques besides that he’s slimy and hit Weiss once and that Weiss is frustrated that Rich People Exist (she was a Rich People exactly like this once and barely got an arc explaining how she was pulled out of it) that her response only feels justified after the fact.
Also, I feel we should’ve met Weiss’ mom here? Just to get some context for what happens to people living with Jacques that isn’t vague and off-screen.
Qrow vs Tyrian is still cool. Still don’t know why Jaune interests Tyrian, that never paid off. Also I don’t think Tyrian trying to kidnap Ruby gets brought up again either, so, cool
i like how ruby assumes an evil faunus is part of the white fang :)
I need a break before the exposition episode

Fruits Basket,Se03, Ep7 (part 2)
Toxic kindness (Kureno):
I’ve touched upon this in se02 finale, but kureno’s toxic kindness mirrors the foolish traveler story. The foolish traveler says “ thank you” as he dies. Kureno ignores the knife in the hands of a person whom he saw with his own eyes abuse a number of children repeatedly. Kisa, Isuzu, hatori & yuki bodies testify of being beaten, cut, & bruised. Kyo’s psychological abuse was announced in front of kureno himself before akito summoned him in the beach arc. Akito has strangled her mom & screamed, cried & went manic in front of him. Yet, kureno walks toward her ignoring the knife, hugs her & tells her to press the button of change. Easy, right?
I highly respect the author that Akito didn’t respond positively. I don’t want kureno to be stabbed or want akito to run away & hurt the others.  Also, I hate cheap drama. So, I’ll never support dramatic confrontations just for the sake of it. I want a realistic depiction of trauma & mental illness. The person who lived her entire life entitled to be obeyed, feared & having extreme authority, won’t just change cuz a foolish guy told her to.
-The responsibility of Nurturing children:
Akito’s outburst represent the author’s view on the role of nurturing children properly to teach them to be decent human beings. Akito was raised with extreme views neglect & narcissism. You’re special & must be loved (said her dad), Others MUST obey you (said the old maid), No one truly loves you (said her mom). So, her entire life she craved showcasing her power over these unfortunate zodiacs as it stems from the notion that they live for her sake.
Tohru on the other hand was raised with compassion, love & appreciation of other ppl. Tohru being timid, shy or unable to stand for her self are personal struggles that tohru deals with & not related to nurturing , While her trauma might be caused by a parent, it didn’t prevent tohru from being a kind & compassionate person because she was raised & taught abt these things.
The faults of abusing a child might lead to create faulty mentality & social issues. these kids might even grow to implement similar abuse onto others, while all that is understandable, it will never excuse their behavior. A lot cases of real life abusers were once kids who were abused. It is tragic. It explains why they become the horrible person they are today, but it never excuses the harm of others. The victim is not responsible of your screwed upbringing. Kisa, kyo, yuki, & Isuzu have nothing to do with Akira, Ren or akito’s troubles. They are victims themselves but they didn’t go & inflect harm upon others. Yes, they each developed a faulty coping mechanism &  showed tendencies of rage, withdrawal, misplaced pain, but they were never a harm towards the society, & their peers.
Akito’s outburst paves the path for her redemption. How it will happen? I duno. Will someone once again holds her cheeks, talks her into bettering herself? I duno. She will atone. I can guess that based on the ED. but Will she be rightfully punished for her crimes? I duno. I hope so. Forgiveness is different from punishment. Thus, a type of punishment should be implemented. Abusers, whether victims or not, or atoned or not, must receive it. It is only fair.
- What will happen with tohru/ kyo’s confession/ confrontation? What is the exit from kyoko’s harsh last words! How can Furuba’s best mom hates kyo! My mind goes crazy!
Perhaps the following will happen:
(a) Kyo will confess the past, tohru forgive, kyo relieved, they kiss or whatever (happy ending). This could happen but while I would be happy for them, I’d hate that kyo’s entire trauma goes away with a simple “ I forgive you/ I love you”. Trauma doesn’t have a button you magically shut down. Kyo must unload his burden first! open his lid, then deal with it. Also, How will kyoko’s last words fit here? Are they just kyo’s imagination? really? it seems so anti-climatic. Imagine living with kyoko’s words for two seasons only for it to be in kyo’s mind! I really need kyoko to have bigger role than simple imagination. She’s either a haunting ghost or a holy perfect mother, rarely a real human character. Also, I need to include Akito. In this happy version, Akito gets stopped by shigure or even yuki! .. possible but too light for all the buildup drama & endless cliffhangers! lol
(b) Kyo will confess the past, tohru won’t forgive, kyo hurts himself as he sees her pain (dark ending). This ending is too dark for both. kyo hearing tohru’s words of un-forgivness will echo what he himself believe in he should be. Then where is hope for him? T_T Tohru not being able to forgive is logical since her mom is her world, but it also further ties tohru to her mom. She’ll be stuck again remembering her mom’s tragic words & last moment. Also, tohru will loose another person she loves even more than her mom. Here Akito will interfere somehow. Perhaps tries to kill tohru, then kyo sacrifices himself saving her. I duno.. too dark for furuba! lol
Ok. I give up. Anything I think gets stopped by kyoko’s words. I need kyo to push tohru away cuz this is the only logical progression for his trauma! I refuse to believe that kyo’s trauma was pushed into the climax & was written to embody furuba’s most mature themes of guilt, self-forgiveness, repeated mistakes, depression & others only to be quickly solved. But, tohru’s own issues were quickly presented & addressed in one short ep so..... augh! I want to hope for more from tohru, but I duno.. her growth has been so inconsistent, & I’m tired of being disappointed.
Next ep could either become furuba’s best ep or the worst ever!!! & this scares me so much.
Side Notes:
Kyo was repeatedly punished for his mistakes & faulty coping mechanism throughout the series, He is yet to be forgiven by someone or forgive himself. But he has been living the punishment of his own trauma.
Why is momiji still speaking German in the dub? I know his curse break is a secret, but He’s still holding on the facade of identifying with a rabbit in his burger, imitating his mom’s accent as he’s still so attached to her. I thought he let go of the past while bravery acknowledging it & moved on. Starting brighter, happier & with more hope. He isn’t still holding on to pain. He is looking forward now. =/
At first, i didnt recognize the room tohru & kyo are eating in! XD. It’s their living room, right? first time seeing it with all doors closed. weird.XD
Seeing Hiro’s curse break further reinforces that there is no logic on its breaking order. It just breaks. that’s all. If there is any reason behind it, then, momoji should be the first. He had always developed outside relationships with others way before tohru & not exclusive to her. Seeing as he has lots of friends playing with him. Also, he has always dealt with his own issues with level headed perspective, never too absorbed in sadness, never too self-focused, he never withdrew or lashed out. He never looked down on kyo, heck! I’ll argue that he even looked up to him!. hiro could've happened earlier too, as he was always protected from trauma & in a loving home, then yuki as he not only opened his lid but told akito in her face that he will forgive her & decided to never be by her side. His curse should have broken right on se02, ep25. You can place anyone afterwards. So, yeah, the curse just breaks, perhaps akito herself has a role as her insecurities increases. duno.
I dont care for the curse itself at all. As far as I’m concerned it is (a) fun gimmick, (b) analogy for abuse & trauma. The later is the core of furuba.
plz let next ep be well-done, well-written & well-direct. plz! T_T
