La Retour de Foi Chapter 3
A/N: Thanks so much for all of the support you guys, I really appreciate it. I was really nervous about publishing this fic, but the response has been nothing but positive, I cannot be grateful enough for that. This chapter is a bit longer, and makes good on the second promise of the summary. There is one eureka moment, see if you can spot it.
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2
The cobblestone lane wound through the town lazily, matching the couple’s attitude. Bree swung their clasped hands between the two of them and Roger smiled at the whimsical gesture. She giggled laid her cheek against his shoulder.
They had dropped off their luggage at the main house. And, with no one else there besides Mrs. Bug, they had ventured into town.
“Where exactly are we goin’?” Roger asked, still smiling.
She shrugged. “Wherever. I’m not that picky.”
Roger stepped up onto the curb, but Bree trailed in the street.
“Ye’re gonna get hit by a car.”
She skipped along the cobblestone street with a smile. “You’ve spent too much time in the city, my lad. No one drives cars in Broch Mordha, everyone knows that.” Like many of the smaller towns in Europe, Broch Mordha had been built long before the invention of cars or even carriages. Most of the streets in the village were narrow and had sharp turns, unlike the wide, and straight roads in America or farther south.
Roger nodded. “A cyclist then. Some lad more taken up with his own self than to watch for lasses in the street,” he teased, a smile on his face.
She laughed as Roger’s phone rang and he sighed. “I’ll be just a moment.” He stepped aside to check it. She tried not to let the worry in his eyes bother her too much. The university where he worked as a researcher was getting tougher as his team got closer to the end of their grant. It took every ounce of persuasion she carried within her to convince him to take this trip north with her, and she intended to make the best of it.
Roger was on the sidewalk with his back turned to her, Bree was standing in the street patiently, and two girls were walking down the street and chatting. Everything happened very fast all of a sudden. A car engine and a flurry of motion out of the corner of her eye. Bree heard a woman shout “Look out!” and she fell to the ground. There was a distinct sound of metal being hit and another body hitting the ground beside her.
Bree’s heart beat very fast as she scrambled over to see who had been hit. A young woman was feeling her head and torso as Bree crouched beside her.
“My god, are you alright?!” She asked.
“I’m fine, just bumped a bit. But everything’s in the right place.” The young woman’s hair had been pulled up into a messy bun before the rush of activity, now her curls sprung free.
Bree would later hear claims that she had acted calmly and cooly, but in the moment all she could think was to get this woman to see her Mum, immediately. “We have to take you to the clinic down the street!”
“It’s fine, I’m fine.”
Bree was incredulous and her blood ran hot at the stranger’s placid demeanor. “You were hit by a car! We’re going to the clinic.” She hoisted the woman to her feet. Roger had come to her side and cursed that he had walked away. Bree assured him that she was fine, but cut off her statement as she noticed the tableau occurring just a few feet away.
“..And just what exactly were ye thinking, ye absolute weapon!” Kitty slapped the young man’s chest once again and he cursed.
“I said I was sorry, leave me alone, Kitty!”
“Ian James Fitzgibbons Murray! Ye just hit my friend with yer car! Ye just wait until Ma hears about this!”
Ian paled at this. “Kitty, dinna tell Ma about this. Please, I’m beginning ye!”
“It’s alright, Kitty. I’m fine. He should watch where he’s going though.” Beee could not believe how calm she was about this whole thing. What had she been thinking, anyway?
Kitty whirled on them. “It’s the principle of the thing, Faith! What’re ye even doing, driving yer car in the village?” She hit his chest again and Ian pushed her away.
“Uncle Jamie sent me on some business outta town and I wanted ta stop by the Printshop before I went home. It woulda been counterproductive to take the car home and then walk to the Printshop, ye see Kitty.”
“Kitty!” Bree said, quite loudly, gaining her attention. She gripped the young woman’s arm and herded her to the car. “Ian, if you drive us to the clinic, I promise that we won’t tell your Ma that you hit someone with your car.”
“What- och, I canna be-”
“Now!” Kitty jumped into the passenger’s seat.
The young woman was wedged in between Roger and Bree in the backseat of Ian’s car. The two Murray siblings continued to argue on the way to the clinic, causing the woman to smile. She groaned a little under her breath and felt her torso lightly.
“A little sore?” Bree asked, eyeing her and she nodded.
“I’ll be fine.”
“You seem very confident in that.”
She shrugged. “I’ve seen and felt worse.”
“Been in a lot of fights?”
Bree saw the thoughts churning in her mind, deciding what to say. “I guess you could say that,” she finally said after a moment. “I don’t believe we’ve been introduced. I’m Faith.”
“You can call me Bree, and that’s Roger over there.” She shook Faith’s hand and the other two repeated the gesture. “My mother is a doctor, we can have you in to see her.”
Faith nodded and smiled at Bree. “Alright, if it makes you feel better. But the most she can do is prescribe me some pain-killer and I hear you Brits are pretty stingy with those.”
Bree shook her head with a smirk. “Maybe most, but if my ma thinks you need them, she’ll give them to you.”
Roger made a face at the both of them. “Ye seem so calm, Faith. How’d’ye know its not something more serious.”
Faith glanced at him and then down. She chewed on her lip. “Well, he can’t have been going more than 10 miles an hour if that and  my major organs can’t have taken a lot of impact when how I fell. There will be some bruising, and maybe some sluggishness after the adrenaline wears out, but overall– I’ll be fine.”
Bree furrowed her brow. Faith had spoken so clinically and professionally, as though she was separated from her own body by the diagnosis.
“What are you a doctor?” Bree asked, incredulous.
Kitty finally seemed to clue into their conversation and spun around in her seat, cursing Ian as he took a turn too fast.
“Not only is she a doctor, Bree, but she’s been all over the world. She’s been with Doctors Without Borders and been to Africa and India and Australia.”
Faith grimaced, but nodded. “Australia was for a study abroad I did, though, I didn’t do any doctoring there.”
“Were you really in Doctors Without Borders though?” Bree asked.
Faith reached back and pulled her wallet out of her back pocket, fishing through the contents for a paper before proudly handing it to Bree. She inspected the paper with an eyebrow raised, her French had been very limited since going to University and Bree wasn’t sure what she was looking at.
“That’s a permit to practice medicine,” Faith explained. “That way I don’t have to worry about being licensed so long as I’m with MSF.”
“‘MSF’?” Roger repeated.
“Yeah, we know it as ‘Doctors Without Borders’ but the organization is French, the acronym is for ‘Medecins sans frontieres.’”
“She speaks French too, completely fluently!” Kitty boasted, as if she had taught Faith the language from birth. Faith colored again, but smiled.
“What brings you to the Scottish Highlands?” Roger asked.
Faith didn’t look at him while she answered. Instead she busied herself with putting her permit away, her face going a shade darker. “Eh, my family’s from around here. My mom used to talk about it all the time while I was growing up. I’m going home after this, for good.”
They were at the clinic now and Bree let Faith out on her side of the car. Kitty slammed the door with a huff at her younger brother and the three from the back seat followed behind into the building. The clinic was small, but cozy. And everyone in Broch Mordha had been going here since before Bree’s time, since maybe even before her father’s. They walked through the lobby where Mary, the nurse, was manning the desk that day. She seemed a little surprised to see the quintet of people barging up to her.
“Oh hello Roger, Kitty, Ian. Bree, are you here to see your mum? She’s seeing a patient right now, but I can-”
Bree nodded emphatically. “Actually yes, I need to see her. This is my friend, Faith. Young Ian hit her with his car and she needs to see a doctor as soon as possible.”
Mary’s eyes opened wide and she began to pull paperwork together as Faith spoke up. “I can see the first available doctor, there’s no need to call her away.”
“Mary, don’t do any such thing!” Bree insisted. “She will be seen first.”
“Bree, your attitude is gallant but I’m afraid it’s up to the patient.” Mary looked to the other woman at the counter. “I can move you to the front of the line, but I don’t know when either of the doctors will be ready.”
Faith nodded. “That’s fine, I can wait, and if there’s anyone more serious, you don’t have to move me in front of them.” She gave her information and took the clipboard of paperwork to fill out.
“It’s alright,” Faith asuaded, yet again as Bree looked as though she was going to protest. “Can you help me fill out this paperwork?” This seemed to distract Bree as she followed Faith to the seating area, pointing out spots on the clipboard.
Roger’s eyebrows were nearly meeting his hair at the exchange, having only too well known how hard it could be to calm Bree’s temper sometimes. “How in the hell..” He commented as he went to sit beside his girlfriend. He stopped when he nearly ran into Faith, who was standing stock still, as if frozen. He followed her line of vision to the portraits of the staff of the Broch Mordha clinic.
“Ye alright, lass?” Roger asked and Faith seemed startled..
“Sorry, must’ve dozed off there for a second.” She smiled at him and sat down
“Are you having trouble concentrating? I can tell Mary-” Bree asked, moving to stand.
Faith stopped her. “It’s fine. I can wait. Now, lemme get my passport out-” She reached down to fish around in her bag and Bree relaxed into her chair. Ian was still there, remarkably, and Kitty still seemed cross, but stayed silent for the time being. They made quite the group.
After about a ten minute wait, Bree looked up from the paperwork to see Joe Abernathy walking over to them, making a face at Bree. He seemed amused by the situation, but, then, he’d always had a good-hearted attitude, especially towards the Fraser-Murrays. He scoffed good naturedly at Bree’s insistence that she had nothing to do with the current situation. “Who was driving the car?”
Kitty pointed at her brother beside her. “Ian.”
The boy in question looked up from his phone screen and shook his head in disbelief. “Och, I thought we had a deal.”
“I promised ye I wouldna tell ma, I dinna make any other promises. Besides, he’s a doctor, I canna exactly lie to him.”
Ian groaned. “Well, at least it isna Auntie Claire seeing her.”
Faith glanced at him and then Kitty at those words.
“Would you prefer to see Dr. Fraser, Ms. McTavish, seeing that you’ve been adopted by the clan?” Joe was clearly enjoying the drama from the twinkle in his eye.
Faith glanced once again at Bree and stood. “That won’t be necessary. I’d just like to get out of here.”
She followed him back.
xXx
There was something about this patient that struck Joe as odd, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. He decided it must be the familiarity in accent. Though not the same as the true Bostonian he had grown up with, her New England accent endeared him.
“MSF, huh?” he asked, feeling along her abdomen.
She nodded.
“You could make a career out of that if you wanted.”
She smiled at him, but shook her head. “Since I finished med school, I’ve been a bit of a nomad, I think it’s time to plant roots somewhere.”
“Well, if you’re looking to plant them around here, the soil is pretty rich and I don’t think you’ll regret it.” He tilted his head to one side. “Maybe not as exciting as some places, but-”
She shook her head and sat up. “I’ve enough excitement for one lifetime, let me tell you.”
“Yeah I can tell, so much excitement that you had to throw yourself in front of a moving car.” She laughed, face turning slightly red. “Well, take care of yourself, Dr. McTavish.”
She jumped up from the bench and picked up her bag once again.
“Pity you couldn’t’ve seen Dr. Fraser, she was also in MSF.”
Her head jerked up and he swore her skin turned a shade paler. “She was?”
He nodded, eyeing her. She cleared her throat. “Well, I’ll try and time my next heroic act better and maybe I can talk to her about it.”
Joe nodded and let her go, giving her paperwork to turn back into Mary. The day was winding down, and he walked by the office before taking the next patient. Seeing Claire inside, he poked his head in.
“Hey, Lady Jane.” He knocked on the door twice.
She seemed startled and she wiped her eyes quickly, seemingly trying to be discreet.
“You alright?” he asked.
She nodded quickly. “Yeah, sorry, what’s up?”
“Your daughter came in.”
Claire seemed extremely shocked by this but then shook her head. “Was there anything wrong? Why didn’t Mary-”
“She’s fine, she was seeing one of her friends here.”
Claire nodded. “Well that was nice of her.”
“Get this though, the patient I saw was in MSF.”
Claire raised her eyebrows and made an approving noise. “Small world.”
Joe nodded. “Well, just thought you’d like to know. I might take off soon. You in for the night?”
She shook her head. “No, no, I actually need to go home right now, Joe.” She stood and immediately started packing her things.
“You’re acting very strangely, is something wrong?”
“What? No, not at all, I’ve just received some news is all. I can’t go into detail right now, but I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow.” She pulled the coat off her peg and threw it over her shoulders.
“Is it good news at least?”
She looked back at him, positively beaming. “Really good.”

CH 9. Wâpamâwasow & Pôni-pimâtisiwin
Word count: 8900+
We both got up and dressed. I grabbed my medical kit and we both made our way over to their macêkin. I stopped at the door and turned to face Declan and Michael. “You two wait out here. Last thing I need is for either of you to fall over and hit your head. Don’t worry I’ll take care of both of them.” I said reassuringly. They both nodded and walked to a fire pit outside of the macêkin. Many of the women from the village were watching and waiting outside. They stared as I went in. I entered and saw Sokanon was naked squatting over a pile of leaves. She was already trying to push. “Sokanon stop.” I said as I knelt down by her. “I want it out!” She yelled. “It’s too early for that. If you keep that up, you’ll tear yourself apart and that won’t be good for either of you. You will know when to push.” I said as I laid a clean cloth down and guided her down to sit. “I’m going to examine you. Which means I’m going to touch you.” I said as I set her in a lithotomy position. “what do you mean?” She said suspiciously “I’m going to put my fingers in you to feel around and see what is happening.” I said uncomfortably She looked at me mortified “Not for pleasure it’s to check and see how much longer it will be before you can push.” I said blushing a little embarrassed at the thought of being intimate with a woman flashed in my mind for a second. She nodded and then winced in pain. She was having a contraction. I washed my hands with alcohol and dried them off. I then took two fingers and pushed them into her vaginal canal and then when I reached her cervix, I could feel that it was thin and stretched but she hadn’t dilated enough. She gripped my shoulder in pain. I could feel the contraction grip my fingers. I estimated that she wasn’t going to be fully dilated for another few hours. I knew that this was a glimpse of my future, but I was comforted by the fact that Claire and Bree would be there. I pulled out the oil that Claire had sent me earlier and rubbed some around her vulva and inside the canal to help with lubricating and stretching. In hopes that nothing would tear. God, I hoped that nothing would tear. A couple of hours went by and we had walked around and massaged her lower back, wiping sweat from her body. I did all the things that I was taught on my OB rotation, except for the epidural. I wasn’t an anesthesiologist, so I didn’t have any practice with that at all. Between her longer contractions I prepared sutures and needles just in case there was a tear. I also took this time to prepare hot water and clean linens. As I checked on her dilation status, I used the oil as Claire instructed and it seemed to be working. “My waters…” I heard Sokanon whisper out. I looked away from what I was doing and looked under her. I saw the river of fluid flowing from under here and could smelled the sweet odor that comes with it as well. It was time. “Sokanon I need you to grab the pole of the macêkin over here and squat I’m going to be right behind you, this will help you open your hips and bare down.” I said helping her walk over to the pole. She nodded and held on to the pole white knuckled and steeled her face. She took a deep wide stance. “Sokanon when you feel pain, I need you to take a deep breath in and push and push for 10 seconds. Alright, ready? PUSH!” I commanded as I crouched next to her and held a hand under her opening to feel for the baby’s head. “Good now exhale” I said. I could see her vulva expanding from the head now in the birth canal. “It burns like fire. I feel like I’m being…. burned alive!” She yelled back at me. “I know it will only be for a short time. Just hang in there and you’ll see your baby soon.” I said as reassuringly as possible. The next contraction came, and she cried out through her teeth. Then I felt it another living thing touched the palm of my hand I looked down and there was a twisted face of another person starting back at me out of my friend. “Sokanon look down you can see the head!” I said excitedly. She looked down and grimaced. “It’s so ugly!” She said attempting to make a joke through her pain. I smiled back and stuck a finger below its neck and looked for the umbilical cord. I found it and pulled it away from the baby’s neck and over its head to prevent strangulation. I also wiped mucus from the baby’s mouth and nose to clear the airway for its first breath. I also twisted it’s shoulders to prevent them from getting caught on the pubic rami of her pelvis. “Get it out please!” she cried out on the verge of tears. “Almost there, here sit back.” I said helping her down. I pulled her back from a squatting position down to a lithotomy position and instructed her put her hand between her legs so she could catch her baby. I put my hands under the backs of her knees and pulled them back wide. “One more, get ready, now PUSH!” I said back to her. She bared down once more and cried out with all her might and with a pop the shoulders came out and the baby slithered like a snake out of her and into her arms. The remaining fluid and blood coming with him too. It was a boy and he was beautiful. “congratulations on your handsome boy” I said as she pulled him up to her chest. She was breathing heavily and crying from relief. I grabbed the clean blanket that I had placed behind me and helped wrap the baby while wiping away more fluid. I instructed her to pat and rub his back to help open up the lungs. Then the baby cried out and it was the most joyous noise I had ever heard. He turned from grey purple to pink as he inhaled. I signed with relief baby was healthy and Sokanon was a mother. I inspected her now deflated abdomen and was helping the placenta detach from her. “Sokanon one more push. Ready? Go” I said holding her legs and knees back. She bared down once more, and the placenta was out. The last connection of mother and child heaped in a purple bloody mess under her.

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name. And they’re always glad you came.
That’s a really awesome reference that you should Google. No, don’t worry about it, I’ll drop a Youtube link. It’s time for yet another edition of Top o’ the Lot (or TotL pronounced “TOTAL” by the kids), Outright Geekery’s weekly listicle. This week’s countdown examines all the great bars, taverns, clubs, and dives from my favorite TV shows, movies, comics, and more. While Cheers may not have made the list, nothing beats that song. So, without further ado, we hit all (or most) major forms of media, make it a double, and everybody sing along, with Outright Geekery’s Top o’ the Lot: 15 Fictional Watering Holes.
[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-mi0r0LpXo%5B/embedyt%5D
Honorable Mention: The One from Every RPG Ever
Including video games, table top games, and the occasional board game. You know the one: Where there’s always someone selling the exact stuff you need for the upcoming journey, the bartender is burly (probably a bastard), the bar maidens are hot and ready (and probably rogues), and (in too many cases) there always seems to be an NPC or PC ready for a team up.
This one is ridiculous in almost every single case. It’s cheap storytelling, hinges primarily on nostalgia, and none of that matters at all. Seeing the local Inn in video games like World of Warcraft or Elder Scrolls is often such a terrific feeling. It denotes discovery and familiarity in brilliant ways. But there’s way too many, so it gets a Honorable Mention.
15. The Bar with No Name
Ok, try to keep up. In the Marvel Comics Universe there is this bar…or maybe it’s a series of bars, where the badguys meet up for planning world domination, cementing their criminal networks, or celebrating good times (Kang’s birthday party was a true rager), and they do this in a place known only as The Bar with No Name.
This is the one that should be getting an Honorable Mention. What a cheap way around getting some bad guys talking. But it’s throwback, it’s subtle and dark, and some really cool things have started in these Bars with No Names…or whatever. And it’s comics. Comics get a pass.
14. Kadie’s Club Pecos
This is the bar from Sin City. A lot of things happened there. Dwight and Ava meetup, The Long Bad Night, Nancy’s Last Dance. What an amazing way to tell a story, and what a terrific scene.
Only hits this low on the list because so many others are just better. It should be on here, but 14 is as high is it’s getting. The dance is really good though…but NSFW.
[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yUWO2PFVF4%5B/embedyt%5D
13. Gaston’s Tavern
What a lovely little town. Too bad the only bar is run by this douchebag. But there’s no denying that Gaston’s Bar from Beauty and the Beast is THE happening place in that provincial little town. Everyone loves the owner too.
Gaston is the man, and he knows it. Why shouldn’t he run his very own tavern? But it’s that song! Although, a good tune can only carry you so far. And he’s such a jerk. Calm down, dude! Grab a drink, go lift some weights, and get with one of those other honeys. I mean, you own a bar. He should just move on.
[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuJTqmpBnI0%5B/embedyt%5D
12. The Bada Bing
The Bada Bing is the fictional strip club owned by Silvio Dante, second hand to crime boss Tony Soprano, and it was a crazy place. Topless girls, alcohol, and gangsters 24 hours a day. The back room was a gentleman’s club, where New Jersey’s finest criminals ate sandwiches, played poker, and counted money.
The Bing makes the list because it was just a cool place. The setting worked to help define the backdrop of this series, and it was one of my favorites. I picture myself walking in, spreading around the cash to all the fine “ladies” dancing, and being invited to the back room for a late night poker game, which inevitably leads to Outright Geekery becoming a front for the mob, my wife’s fingers being cut off as a warning, and me ultimately floating in the Hudson River. Worth it!
[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lonfT9ITxhk%5B/embedyt%5D
11. Swerve’s
In IDW Publishing’s Transformers titles, there’s a story about a group of ragtag Cybertronians – loners, castoffs, shut-ins, socially inept etc. – who decide to leave Cybertron and search the galaxy for the fabled Knights of Cybertron. Things have not gone well. Despite that, however, one standout of this series in the context of this list is Swerve’s Bar. Swerve is a wise-cracking smartass of a guy, but he’s just looking to have a good time. And Swerve’s Bar is THE place to go on the spaceship The Lost Light should you have the need for some Energon Ale.
While Swerve’s doesn’t break into the top 10 o’ this Lot simply because it’s such a vague and relatively unknown bar, it makes the list overall because I just love these robots, their stories, and their relationships so damned much. I know, these are plastic toys from the 1980s. But their real to me.
10. Quark’s
Although it’s not the coolest bar from the Star Trek universe, Quark’s is easily the one that looks more like your traditional western frontier saloon, which is what Deep Space Nine was going for. Set right off the main hub in the promenade, Quark’s offered food, drink, fellowship, but most importantly it offered gambling and holosuites.
Having hookers and gaming was a real departure for the series as the Federation tended to frown on such things, but it added a sense of realism to the fell of the entire series. Real frontier stuff, unrestrained by the laws of the Federation. And the cast of regulars, including the ever-silent Morn, were fantastic additions. A great place that deserve to break the Top 10 in a list with so many great entries.
9. Club Rockit
Club Rockit was an actual, real-life place that writer Bryan Lee O’ Malley used to model the fictional punk rock venue in the wildly successful and fun Scott Pilgrim series of comics. It was described as cramped, ugly, and terrible by its creator, but we loved it for a lone reason: Sex Bob-Omb played there!
If you have a club in a comic book and there’s a cool band that plays there it’s going to be an awesome place. The club shows up in every instance of this license including comics, movies, and video games, and really just goes to show you how damned popular this series is. Sequel? I sure hope so!
8. The Leaky Cauldron
Founded by Daisy Dodderidge in 1500 to serve as a doorway between the non-magic Muggle World and the Wizarding World, The Leaky Cauldron is a pub and inn from the Harry Potter Universe. It was one of the first introductions readers and viewers had at what the new magical world we were stepping into truly had to offer.
Whimsy filled both the book and movie scenes that introduced The Leaky Cauldron, and it only got better from there. Beyond that, however, The Leaky Cauldron was a portal of sorts from the real to the imagined, a mainstay in scores of fantasy titles. Subtle and fun, it was a great anchor early on in the series and just neat in its own right.
7. The Prancing Pony
Another one from both famous books and popular movies, The Prancing Pony is in the village of Bree in Middle-Earth from The Lord of the Rings series of novels and films. This is where Frodo and his group meet up with the Ranger Strider in what became one of the most amazing adventures of all time.
More occurs at this inn and bar than just the meeting of Frodo and Strider, but it’s the most famous by far, and this meeting represents a ramp up in the adventure of the story. And it’s a terrific moment. Thorin Oakenshield and Gandalf meet up here at one point, as well, but it’s just not mentioned as much. While the Honorable Mention spot in this Lot may be a stereotype, this is the inn that created it.
6. Moe’s Tavern
When you visit Springfield there’s only one place where the Everyman goes after a long, hard day of running the nuclear power plant. Moe’s Tavern. The cold Duff on tap, terrific music, fun regulars, and, of course, Moe, our lovable bartender. There may not be a more well known bar on this list.
A lot of people know about Moe’s because so many people have been forced to watch so many seasons of The Simpsons. I guess it deserves it – I haven’t watched since season 5 or 6 – but Moe’s is still very worthy of making this list.
5. The Hellfire Club
I’m not really quite sure if this entry even qualifies, as the Hellfire Club is more of a group of people than a building where people drink, but I don’t care. The perennial X-Men villain, the Hellfire Club is a fictional society bent on obtaining power, but they do often have an actual club.
Sometimes a bar isn’t about the where, but the who. The place is terrific, but The Hellfire Club is really made up of really interesting – and often very evil – characters. And those cool Chess piece nicknames? So cool!
4. The Iceberg Lounge
Barely missing the Top 3 is the relatively new aspect of DC Comics Gotham City, Penguin’s Iceberg Lounge. The iceberg shaped nightclub, conveniently located in Gotham Harbor, acts as a legitimate business front for the Penguin’s criminal dealings, and also works as a place for Batman to use his makeup kit.
My favorite parts of the Iceberg Lounge are when Batman disguises himself as a criminal, goes to the lounge incognito, all in an attempt to overhear some underworld information that may help him solve the next crime. And it’s just really cool to see it floating there on Gotham’s Skyline.
3. The Ink & Paint Club
Yes, breaking into the Top 3 is the nightclub run by cartoons from the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, The Ink & Paint Club. In a world where toons are real, this nightclub takes the best parts of that animated world, puts them to wrok, and provides quality entertainment as well as superb nightclub services.
Opening on the Duck vs Duck piano duel, Jessica’s solo in the middle, and ending on that gorilla of a bouncer, the Ink & Paint Club not only left an impression on anyone who watched this movie, but it made viewers want to go there for a Saturday night of drinking, dancing, and drawing.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy5THitqPBw%5B/embedyt%5D
2. Mos Eisley Cantina
You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
But, man, they play such good music! Like many things in the Star Wars Universe, less was more when it came to this Outer Rim bar on the mudball that is Tatooine. Is was rightfully a dangerous place. Who goes to Tatooine if they aren’t in trouble and laying low? That’s a recipe for smugglers, pirates, and, yes, nerf-herders.
Again, less was more here. Lucas understood that an audience will fill in their own gaps, and usually an audience will fill it with better stuff than a writer ever could. So many alien races with absolutely no explanation whatsoever about who or what they are. It was perfect. Oh, and that house band is the best in the galaxy.
[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stbYF6XpTYE%5B/embedyt%5D
1. 10 Forward
Wait! They put a bar in a Federation Starship? Yes, they did, and it was awesome! Deck 10 in the forward section of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D was just that: A bar. A place where weary Starfleet officers could relax, eat, fellowship, drink, listen to music, and otherwise have an awesome time. It was weird for a while. There’s a bar on a Federation starship? But it ended up working so well for so man reasons.
#gallery-0-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The primary reason was the bartender, Guinan, played by acting legend Whoopi Goldberg. But all of the little things fell right into place over a very short period of time to make 10 Forward one of the most popular place in the entire galaxy. Sometimes there’s a hostage situation, some days it’s a birthday party. Other days there’s a funeral wake, yet others there’s an emergency baby delivery (thanks, Worf!), and still others see the entire crew trying to beat each other to a pulp. Business as usual on the Flagship of the Federation.

Worth it!

1. 10 Forward
#gallery-0-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
