Omg...?
@stellan-pip-69 @fuerst-von-argot what did we just miss? I knew it, WE knew it would happen ASFGAFAGAGA. Pip, you still have time!!
There is no way I would have risked going to the VERY LAST show of The Homecoming just to see if Stellan would be there, BUT THERE YOU GO!! 😭😭😍😍😍
Also, Stellan, the very last show, what were you thinking?? 😱😱😂 Anyways I'm grateful for these Andor re-shoots, I'm glad Luthen is still alive - and so is Jarllan apparently. 🤩
Then again I'm sure Jared would give one more performance just for him. 🤗 Maybe a private one? 👀

“A Substitute for Bone Marrow”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By Harold M. Schmeck Jr.
“Six of the desperately ill victims of radiation poisoning from the Chernobyl nuclear accident in the Soviet Union were given fetal liver tissue rather than bone-marrow transplants, American doctors in Moscow disclosed yesterday.
While fetal liver might seem a strange source of tissue as a substitute for bone marrow in such patients, there are important reasons for using it.
In the adult, bone marrow is the ultimate source of blood cells. Survival is impossible without it. Patients whose bone marrow has been destroyed usually die of infection or hemorrhage because of the lack of white blood cells and other blood substances.
In the early human embryo, the liver is the major site for the production of blood cells. Thus the transplantation of fetal liver tissue could provide the radiation patient with the needed blood-forming tissue that is the objective of the operation.
Equally important in these cases, the doctors would expect less severe problems with incompatibility between the tissues of donor and patient than would be the case with adult bone marrow. In Moscow, Dr. Robert Peter Gale of University of California, Los Angeles, said fetal liver was used in patients whose blood-forming tissues were so far damaged that it was impossible to determine the tissue type accurately.
In order to transplant bone marrow effectively there must be an almost perfect match between the tissues of donor and recipient.”

I don't know if it's of interest to anyone here, but @elenatria, @progressi9 and I were in Lithuania for a week and had some emotional and exciting moments at the HBO Chernobyl locations. 😁
At the palace of culture and sports we interrupted some current filming and discovered Boris' armchair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Fabijoniškės we learned from which rooftops the scenes were shot and where CGI Chernobyl was located.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the KGB prison it was pleasantly chilly with 34 degrees outside.

We saw shooting stars on the Alley of Sigitas Geda.

They're the same picture.

The Bench Scene in Pravieniškės without the bench but right next to a prison, quite secluded and tranquil and without a cab driver for the ride back.

And at the Amsterdam School Museum, Valery's appartment (directly across the street from our hotel) we learned about the Jewish, gay former occupant of the appartment and how important this place was to HBO, as well as how important it was to them to decorate the entire appartment, including the inside of the fridge, in Soviet style. Or how Valery's cat was almost fed dry food.
And then there is the back door that could be used to visit Valery's appartment hidden from the eyes of the KGB. 😏

I can only summarise it by saying that it was incredibly unique and emotional and I learned to appreciate every place, every scene we visited in a whole new way.
I can still hardly believe everything we learned, especially from our wonderful guide and host in Valery's appartment.

I still desperately need nice frames for these finds.
I know it's a bit weird to get emotional about something like this, but after a lot of theoretical involvement, it's just nice to be able to hold something in your hands.

My Chernobyl tattoos :) (by https://www.instagram.com/melli.mrk.tattoo)
It was no doubt a rough year for many, I finished my degree with a Chernobyl related thesis and it stressed me out more than anything. But I gifted myself a tattoo of the two reasons that probably kept me going without losing my mind and mental health completely.
They really mean a lot to me and my tattoo artist was super kind and understanding. (She even watched the show as preparation for the tattoo and took a liking to them too, especially Valery. ^_^) She did a wonderful job, I wasn’t really sure about anything but she created this amazing art for me. It covers some pretty big scars; the German lettering was taken from an East-German translation of the Pravda article about Legasov’s memoirs I found during my research.
Ah well, I love them a lot and I love to have them with me all the time.

I'm truly so fascinated how you come up with these compositions, also how you are so good at the anatomy and proportions. Would you have any tips for someone on how to improve their drawings, maybe even a demonstration?
I'm a professional art teacher, however I've never made any tutorials. I guess I could give one free demo if people want to contact me in pm and then maybe have a skype session or something? Just once because I'm busy, sorry. 😅
The way I learned was years and years of practice, but the first thing I tell my students is to start tracing just to make things easier and stop being afraid of failure, whether they use tracing paper for traditional art, or layers in photoshop for digital art.
You find what you want to copy and trace it. Of course, there's the problem of finding the right angle of the character you want to draw, the right pose. So you either google the pose/clothes/background/expressions you want ("man sitting on couch", "holding hands", "men in suits" etc), take screenshots from the movie/TV show, or you have your friends model for you, and you take many many pics of them. You either print the photos or draw by looking at the screen (if you want to do free hand instead of tracing).
The hardest part is how to attach e.g. Valery's face on the bodies of your reference pics. That is learned only through trial and error, so don't be afraid to try and fail and throw away tons of paper. What I do is print out every single face/angle I think might be useful to me, so what you see in my art is a composite human figure, taking the expression from one picture, the hand movement from another, the hair from a third one etc.
I don't do tracing for my own art, I do free hand, but you can try either method and see what suits you.

As you can see here, I changed Valery's head many times to the point that I had to erase it entirely because not only did it not look like him but also it was too small compared to Boris'. What a huge pain in the a$$.

Then on to the inks.
Tumblr media
I use kurecolor or copic markers, as many shades of gray as I can get my hands on - so much easier than messy watercolours and acrylics (which I adore but yeah, messy - also not handy if you want to draw during a flight).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One useful tip is to take your distance from the drawing as many times as you can. While you draw you may think it looks right but once you get up, it doesn't. So make sure to take a few steps back and look at it from a distance while you work on it, that way you will notice easier any flaws or things you want to change.
Another tip for getting it right is looking at the art through a mirror (hey, Da Vinci did it so why not you). If not through a mirror, just take a picture of your WIP and reverse/mirror it on your phone. You'll notice any imperfections right away.
