Progressing on some experiments with skeleton work. We've been playing around with some ideas on how to make these babies look as natural and unique as possible with accurate positions and the individual personality of each specimen we work with. I have the privilege of working closely with my donors who spend time rehabilitating and raising a lot of these animals. So on the occasions that these critters pass on due to natural causes I have photo references or first hand accounts of how they were in life and we've been trying our best to honor their personalities in these displays. This gorgeous little hognose snake was so fun to give some life back to and I think this piece reflects how sweet and goofy these guys can be.

My serious lack of photography skills do not do this piece justice at all. I'm really happy with the pose and how perfectly this combination just flowed together.

A large snake skeleton in a unique pose (I usually let the specimen decide how it wants to naturally lay before preserving) on a subtly textured black background and protected under glass in what so far has been my favorite restored thrift find frame.

I've been scouting out any potential space on my wall to hang this baby and if I find any this one might not leave my home😂

Just finished up this lovely glass dome with a specimen that I've never come across until now. A friend donated an African house snake that had passed, asking me to do a cause of death dissection. A large fatty tumor was found which had caused a blockage. I managed to save most of the skin for future jewelry pieces and positioned the preserved skeleton in a small glass dome with a cork base. The skeleton is complete and fully preserved with connective tissues still attached to provide a stronger and more naturally positioned skeleton that will stand up to handling and movement without fear of loose bones. This is my favorite way to preserve snakes and almost all in my personal collection are displayed this way.

What do you guys think of this style of preservation? It definitely has a different aesthetic than a fully cleaned and whitened articulated skeleton but I personally love how much more durable they are and the almost antiqued earthy flesh tones match my home decor perfectly🖤
