*Life Update. As a lot of you know my mental health has been very up and down lately. I have been diagnosed with other mental health issues as well as the BPD, and whilst it explains so much, it’s also a lot to take on. I’m normally quite open about it all too, but for now whilst I continue to process and adapt, I won’t be sharing. I mean, Initially I was relieved to have the diagnosis, but soon after I was full of dread at the realisation of how bad my mental health was, and is, and how much I mask and hide away, which ultimately always leads to catastrophic meltdowns, and self sabotaging along the way of course. Now, I kind of understand why I do this, I understand the impulses, and the deep emotional pain that I feel, even when sometimes it doesn’t even feel warranted. And it’s not because I am broken. But with this new understanding of myself, I can continue to work on what’s important for me right now. I thought that was just self care. But today, after MONTHS, I ended up in the studio and pinned some insects, not because I had too, not because I needed to catch up on work and commissions, because I wanted too. It felt so good. So cathartic, and instantly I forgot about all the horrid feelings I had felt for the past few weeks. At this stage i feel it’s important for myself not to stray too far away from being creative, whilst trying to maintain a healthy work life and fun balance. Click Beetle (Conoderus bellus) in my backyard earlier this month. The larvae of this Click Beetle (known as wireworms) feed on tobacco plants, causing them to be a pest to farmers. White-Spotted Sawyer Longhorn Beetle (Monochamus scutellatus) in Algonquin Provincial Park, July 2017. This individual is a male, as evidenced by the extremely long antennae (The "longhorns" of its common name). There are tiny red Mites hitching a ride on this Beetle as well. The mites are possibly of the genus Trichouropoda, and so far as I can find, we're still not exactly sure why they do this. It's likely they ride on these wood-boring Beetles to reach new habitats faster.
