We ❤️ @dayanitasingh !! #Repost @dayanitasingh ・・・ Never thought I would be featured on my favourite art podcast - “a brush with” and what an amazing interviewer Ben Luke @theartnewspaper.official is, it’s hard to believe we had not met before and yet during the conversation he led me to join some dots in my life- eg the influence of Bani Thani miniature replica which hung as art in our homes- and went onto become a postal stamp- dissemination was art from the beginning . Posted @withregram • @theartnewspaper.official A brush with… Dayanita Singh is out now! In this episode of our in-depth artist interview podcast we speak one of the most pioneering photographers of recent decades, @dayanitasingh Born in New Delhi in 1961, Singh is known for her poetic photographs that she places in the context of constructed environments, bespoke archival structures and artists’ books. In this conversation, she recalls how her mother’s photography was a “traumatic” part of her childhood and remembers an early opportunity to photograph the celebrated tabla player Zakir Hussain. She talks about her passion for the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke and Michael Ondaatje, the revelatory visits to Shankar’s Dolls Museum in Delhi, and about her remarkable project documenting Mona, a lifelong friend and collaborator. Plus, she answers all our usual questions, including the ultimate one: what is art for? • A brush with… series 8 runs from 2-23 February 2022, with episodes released on Wednesdays. This podcast is sponsored by @bloombergconnects @frithstreetgallery @gropiusbau @steidlverlag @hatjecantzverlag Dancing with my camera @gropiusbau 17th March - 7august. "Learning without reflection is a waste, reflection without learning is dangerous. "– Confucius. Dale Chihuly's Red Reeds on Logs is a hand-blown glass installation at the New York Botanical Gardens. Thank you Bloombergconnects for the opportunity to attend this after-hours tour. Special thanks to Josh for the ride, and to Don and Brian for making sure I had a ride home. It was great to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. Check out the tags. My most important learning from last night: I need to meet up and shoot more with people. Sony a7ii, no edits or filters. (at The New York Botanical Garden)

We’re excited to start rolling out some big changes happening here at the Museum as part of an exciting initiative funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies called #BloombergConnects. Here we’ll be updating you on these changes as they happen so say tuned!   Along with all the physical changes going on in the lobby—more art, new furniture—you may have noticed some additional faces as well. Our ASK team has moved from their temporary location at 42nd street into the pavilion. That’s because starting today, our new iPhone app—ASK Brooklyn Museum—is available on the Apple app store! Our app allows you to ask us questions about art and the team will answer during your visit. Don’t have a question? That’s cool. You can also share observations, thoughts, and ideas. We’ll be continuing to tweak the app over the coming months, so download it when you come in, try it out, and let us know what you think!

We’re excited to start rolling out some big changes happening here at the Museum as part of an exciting initiative funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies called #BloombergConnects. Here we’ll be updating you on these changes as they happen so say tuned!   One thing I noticed when first visiting the Brooklyn Museum (before I was an employee) was the lack of name on the exterior of the building. The the architecture, the exterior banners, the art visible through the glass, all indicate that the building is some important cultural institution, but no where did we explicitly say.  Additionally, there is some confusion about how to enter. The protrusion of the glass canopy helps communicate the location of the revolving doors, but it's not easy to see at every approach angle and the Beaux-Arts architecture style suggests to some that they need to go up the stairs to the piano nobile to enter (which was the original entrance). Working with MTWTF as part of our Bloomberg Connects visitor experience initiative, we’re adding our name to the front of the building. We hope this will ameliorate entry point confusion and also provide a more welcoming presence, particularly when paired with a set of banners just inside hanging from the brick arcade that say “welcome.”

While you may have seen Jane Dickson’s “Revelers” (2008) at Times Square-42 St station, (1,2,3,7,N,Q,R,W,S), the playful, life-size mosaic figures aren’t her only #MTAarts work celebrating this iconic New York City destination. Dickson’s 1991 poster commission highlights the color and mood of Times Square at night in her signature high-contrast, glowing style. Times Square, where the artist lived for nearly thirty years, has served as a major inspiration for Dickson, who regularly uses signage as subject matter to explore themes relating to the American urban landscape and psyche. Her recent works in this ongoing dialogue are on view in her solo exhibition “Promised Land” at Karma through October 28.
Discover more artworks at Times Sq-42 St station with our guide on Bloomberg Connects. Our self-guided tour “Explore Times Square” features Dickson’s “Revelers” and much more!
