Max didn’t know how to answer.
Not this time.
There was no witty or teasing remark, no clever comeback that oozed with his usual charm and confidence.
He looked tired, paler that usual, a little drawn, like he hadn’t been eating or sleeping much of late, which in truth he hadn’t, but he considered that inconsequential in the wider scheme of things.
“Bad,” he answered quietly, the word hollow as he bordered on tears, an unfamiliar fear in his eyes. “I fucked up. I’ve fucked up so fucking bad and I don’t know how to unfuck it without someone getting hurt.”
It was bad enough seeing Max like that, but the tone only further set Cal on edge. He wasn't good at emotional things, struggled enough with his own, but this was Max and he always tried at least a little harder where he was concerned.
"What happened? I know I was on the other side for a bit, but...Normally I come back to at least an update on what's going on but no one has been willing to tell me anything."
Instead he had been met with something akin to pitying stares or people doing their best to look anywhere but at him and it had been enough to make his skin itch with how worried he had become.
"You look like hell."

The bar fight wasn’t hard to start. A few choice words whispered in the right alcohol addled ear, and it was like throwing a match onto a powder key. What started out as a simple fist fight between two burly patrons spiraled into an all-out war with the encouragement from a dainty patron that no one had ever seen before.
Soon, the back of the establishment was slowly engulfed in flames, and Eris danced gleefully behind the bar, pushing the bartender’s body out of the way and pouring herself a shot of top shelf whiskey. The burn was incredible. Almost as incredible as the crimsons and golds that cast shadows along the walls and made the blood on Eris’ hands glisten like jewels.
Slamming the shot glass down on the bar, Eris heaved a sigh of contentment. She had needed to let loose for a while, and gods, this was exactly what the doctor ordered. Her attention was caught by a sound near the front door.
“Well, well, I was not expecting company.” The goddess smirked, making a feeble attempt to wipe the blood from her cheek, yet smearing the remnants further across her alabaster skin.

Chris had always enjoyed a fun luck. He seemed to always be in the right place to meet other supernaturals like himself. Wylie had been no exception, although he had to be one of the most powerful he had ever met. Good thing the Underworld was no longer a problem, because that meant Chris didn’t have to worry about trying to befriend a witch.
Today, for instance, he had been lucky enough to run into Wylie and actually block his powers for a moment before they went out of control. Not that he blamed the other, of course... Running from crazy police officers was all kinds of stressful.
It wasn’t until they were finally safe in one of those abandoned buildings, far from the police, that he dared speak again.
“You know-- I could help you train those powers of yours,” Chris offered in a whisper as he was catching his breath. “They’re magnificent... But kinda wild, if you ask me.”

Compelled by his words, the man who was shamelessly insinuating himself to the bartender stood up and left. Sebastián, with a gentle smile but very tired eyes took his place on the bar instead, offering Brandon a nod.
