Hear me out, Dan Heng and his “I’m not him” line BUT Dan Feng (and all his gay little feelings for blade and Jing Yuan) are still VERY THERE and he says it bc he desperately needs Jing Yuan to love him and not Dan Feng bc he’s so used to running from everything that Dan Feng did the fact that Jing Yuan is Still There and still loves “him” is nothing new, but the fact that he’s not actively hostile makes is a lot harder to not just let Jing Yuan project all his experiences with Dan Feng onto him, just to feel some familiarity.

Cause like, with blade it’s easy, his gay little memories are with yingxing, all silky white hair and tea always a little too sweet for his taste bc that’s how yingxing likes it. Not the man that wants his head, and has crossed the universe in pursuit of it.

But Jing Yuan is still himself, the time worn red ribbon in his hair the same one Dan Heng Feng had given him however many centuries ago. He’s there and he’s willing to love him just as he would’ve loved Dan Feng, but Dan Heng can’t accept that. He can’t tether himself to Dan Feng because that means accepting love that isn’t actually for him. And he’s not quite lonely enough to be able to delude himself into believing it is for him, not yet anyway.

Not gonna lie I have been thinking a lot about dragon!Blade/Ren transforming for the first time and having his instinct go wild urging him to go pick up his mate Dan Heng and their kid Bailu and bring them somewhere safe to protect them.

Ren with dragon horns always looks neat.

But full dragon Ren coiled protectively around his wife and kid would be chef kiss.
