You know how baby birgs like to ride on others backs?
Would mothers ever have handles on their clothing to help them hold on or is their grip strong enough for it to not be a worry?
Wouldn't that damage the material if their grip or claws were so tight?
And if their grip is usually that tight then what about baby birgs who have health issues that might cause a weaker grip than average meaning they're unable to hold on properly?
Would there be tools or methods used to accommodate their needs?

The larva is normally born during winter hibernation, though it continues to grow for a couple of months after emergence, at which point it has become pretty large and unwieldy. In the northern hemisphere the caretaker may don a sort of “saddle” that contains the larva on either side, with heavy cloth or leather straps for it to hook its claws into around the neck/chest area. The larv can also be conveniently padded in with extra bedding to keep it warm and safe, as well as soak up any waste. A simpler alternative is a blanket and cloth sling to secure the larva. In the south the larva may be placed in a basket fixed to the back (lower left sketch).
After eclosion the youngsters can usually walk just fine on their own, but if they are weak or tired there is another sort of modified saddle for them to rest on. You can see young swooce riding on one in this old drawing

How do birgs sleep? Could they sleep on their back like a human? What would a birg bed or crib look like?
They naturally sleep in a sitting position (the ligaments of the neck lock into an upright position) but also readily tip over or lean against other things. They rarely if ever lay on their backs though.
Tumblr media
Warm season bedding is typically a simple box or compartment with blankets, dry plant matter or pillows lining the bottom, sometimes with a raised pedestal to rest the head and forearms on
Tumblr media
Not pictured is winter/hibernation sleeping arrangements, which often forgo individual beds in favor of everyone piling into an an underground room carpeted with a thick layer of bedding.
By the way, I’m bringing back my long abandoned kofi! I like making my art freely accessible, but if you appreciate what I do, consider throwing me a tip, for less than the price of an actual (fancy) coffee!

how birgs bathe? what are their hygienic tools (brushes, toothbrushes, skincare, sanitizer analogs, etc) like? do they have different washing systems, like how we have baths vs showers? is there any culture/religion specific forms of bathing/cleaning?
Birgs have a variety of options for hygiene, and almost none of them involve water! Sand or dust baths are the most common choice, some indoor baths even have heated floors to keep them warm on cold nights :) often fragrant herbs are mixed in with the sand to give the bather a pleasant aromas well as to help repel parasites.
Finer powders may be rubbed into the skin without the need of a whole-body bath; sometimes these powders are tinted to enhance color, or contain mica flakes to make the fur literally sparkle. Certain oils for skin and fur health are used by southern cultures, but the Twowi swear by dust alone.
Tumblr media
Birgs use brushes of all sorts, dancing in size from handheld to big enough to run your whole body against. Body brushes are typically made of a wood or metal frame and set with stiff plastic fibers. These are especially popular during shedding time, as a birg’s hair is not separate from the cuticle and comes off along with the entire outer layer of skin. It gets itchy!

I’ve already covered oral hygiene in this post

How do birgs drink? What do their drinking vessels look like? Since they don't have lips they can't sip from the edge or use a straw?
Tumblr media
Birgs drink a lot like birds, they need to tip their heads (or often just their chelicerae “beaks”) back to get the liquid to the back of their throat. Drinking bowls tend to be elongated in shape so that they can immerse their beaks without the risk of wetting the cheek ruffs, though they can also just raise them. Tipping bowls will have an additional lip or spout to pour the liquid into their mouth.
Nomads and herders use waterskins with long tubes for convenience. Often a squeeze with a rear leg is required to get the water flowing.

Hi so I came from the curious archive video and I saw those rifles that the birgs use but u couldn't wrap my head around how they worked like are they muzzel loaded or breech loaded etc. Would be cool if you cleared it up I'm a nerd for speculative weaponry
Hey there! Disclaimer that I am Not a gun person/don’t have as good a grasp on how they work as I’d like, but I’ve been unsatisfied with their look for a while and ended up redesigning them. There’s still probably things I’ll want to tweak, but I think this is more aligned with the new canon
Tumblr media
Thank you @primalmuckygoop for suggesting they attach them to their saddles instead of carrying them
By this design they’d almost have have to be breech loading, though shorter light cannons and as yet-undesigned pistols might be muzzle loaders. Nothing more advanced than flintlocks, but more cheaply made matchlock types are still common. All rifles are made to be handled with the medial arms, but reloaded with the head-arms.
In general, birg firearms favor power over accuracy; birgs have poorer visual acuity at long distances than humans.

Are there such things as Birg Mobility aids?
Certainly! Canes/crutches come in a few different forms depending on which limbs need the most support
Tumblr media
They also have wheelchairs, which can be quite stylish.
Tumblr media
Maternal clans tend to be pretty good with providing support for physically disabled members, but it’s kind of a crapshoot when it comes to guilds.

Alright .... time to ask the ultimate spec evo alien question .... what we've all been wondering even if we don't want to admit it .... something the human condition forces ALL to ponder .... WHAT DO BIRD BUG LATRINES LOOK LIKE?
Tumblr media
Basically they just stand over a pit. It can be raised to rest their rear-end on and usually has some kind of lid so nobody falls in.
The Twowi like to cover the behinds so they get the extra step of un/re-fastening a button or hook under the mantle.
Now you know!

I got an ask a while back about birg musical instruments, so I finally got around to drawing some I liked. They’re about as varied as you’d find on earth, with many requiring manipulation by both the anterior and medial limbs. The examples shown here include:
- a small organ functionally similar to an accordion, with bellows pumped by the medial arms while the anterior hands press the keys
- a large pair of horns designed to resemble the mouths of trunkhorses, typically reserved for certain ceremonies. Note how the mouthpieces cover the exhaust spiracles.
-a string instrument that can be strummed by the medial hand or plucked by the fingers of an anterior hand.
- a boring ol flute. Once again the mouthpiece is at the base of the neck tho.
- a metal vessel partially filled with water to be tapped and flicked for neat percussion sounds. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
