the song title "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" was inspired by a line in Douglas Coupland's novel Shampoo Planet. In it, the main character says "I am writing a list of tragic character flaws on my dollar bills with a felt pen. I am thinking of the people in my universe and distilling for each of these people the one flaw in their character that will be their downfall – the flaw that will be their undoing. What I write are not sins; I write tragedies"
songwriter Benny McKee explained that Dynamite "wasn’t meant to be a straight-up party song. It was meant to be a surrender song. “I throw my hand up in the air sometimes” is when you don’t get your way – when you give up and you’re handing it over. So it’s really a song about surrender that I wrote when I was starting to get sober. It’s funny that it just turned into a straight-up club banger. There was really a lot of heart and ton of spirituality underneath it"

WELCOME TO CLASH OF THE WIZARDS 2024!!!!
It's that time of the year again, wizards, witches, and magic users of all kinds! Time to pit our favorite magic users against each other in a bracket battle to the death!
I'll be your mod, Hermann (they/them), who's running your competition, just as I did last year!
The gig is simple-- from your nominations, we pit 32-64 delightful fictional magic users against each other, and try and see who's Tumblr's favorite! Who's the most powerful, most wizened, uhm,,, the hottest. Who knows?
Last year's valiant winner was Miss Eda Clawthorne from The Owl House!!! But, who will be this year's champion? That's for you to decide!
GUIDELINES:
I will not take submissions of real-life magicians, as this is not real, reality-bending magic, it's misdirection. So, sorry Houdini, and sorry Penn and Teller, you're out of this one!
You can submit anyone from any fandom! Just as long as they wield magic and partake in the silliest of sorcery! Except I probably won't take submissions from Harry Potter for my own personal comfort, and also because that's chock full of so many wizards
Please don't come back and repeatedly nominate the same wizard. I would like some diversity! However, you can come back and nominate NUMEROUS wizards!
Lastly, have fun! This is all for sillies, don't take it too seriously!
If there's a tie that needs to be broken, I'll have you guys (my audience) vote to break it!

That's right, it's another music themed poll tournament! But this time, it's with a twist! Instead of voting for the best of a certain kind of song, we'll be discovering the worst. And the category is... video game songs! Submissions will be open for 1 week (until November 1st) unless I get a lot of them quickly. I am also including the spreadsheet, so check that before you submit so we can try to avoid duplicates!

Hello, and welcome to the Song Character Showdown!
We'll be doing a standard tournament bracket. Before you dash on down to that submission form, a few quick rules:
Characters must originate from music, not just have a theme song. Bill Wimbly has his own song in the Wimbly Show, but he's from the TV show. White Boy McGee is in a musical and has a few numbers. Grunklo Frommyalbums is the narrator of the pop song The Ballad of Grunklo. Bill and White Boy can't compete, but Grunklo can.
Examples: Melanie Martinez's Crybaby, They Might Be Giants's Particle Man, My Chemical Romance's The Fabulous Killjoys
This bracket is not intended for characters from opera/traditional folk songs/classical music, but if they have enough nominations, I will absolutely include them.
Examples: Schubert's the Erlkönig, Sergei Prokofiev's Peter, Flotow's Martha
Characters from adaptations of older stories are allowed, as are those that had their albums adapted into other mediums.
Examples: The Oh Hellos's Wormwood, Lord Huron's Lee Green
Characters that appear in music videos are eligible, as long as they appear in more than three videos.
Example: IDKHOW's White Shadow
Real people are not eligible, even if they're in music videos and have songs sung about them.
Characters may be nominated in groups or individually.
Examples: MCR's The Fabulous Killjoys, the Mountain Goats's Alpha Couple
There'll be a max of 32 players. Nominations close on March 28th. You can nominate as many guys as you want, but only submit them once. Have fun!

Fictional Weapon War
There are so many cool characters who are badass fighters. This tournament will be about the awesome weapons that they use in battle and which one is the coolest in both design and abilities. Whether it's a sword, axe, whip, or any other thing used to fight with, you can submit it!
Submission Rules
I'm not counting magic as a weapon. It must be something physical but a staff or something that is used to focus magic counts.
Armor also does not count. While it is cool, I'm going for items that are used more offensively.
Leaning more towards fictional weapons (aka weapons in media). Maybe I'll make some exceptions for things from real life.
Please do not spam one weapon in the form over and over. You can submit multiple forms for different weapons.
I have included a link for an image in this one. If your submission is more obscure, it would be very helpful to have an image of it.
Not an advantage but brownie points if the weapon has a cool name.
The size of the bracket will depend on how many submissions I get.
All posts related to this tournament will have the tag "fictional weapon war" to help people find them.
Submissions will close on July 15 at 12:00 AM (midnight) EST

the "best overplayed songs" bracket has me looking up these songs that are apparently played on the radio so often that people hate them, but i've never really intentionally listened to them until now, and man some of these are such bangers. Uptown Funk is so goofy though
