I'll be honest, at this point we were at the end of the last lecture of the semester and trying to wrap shit up, our professor didn't say much about him as a person
rule of Jagiellonians in Hungary is generally remembered as a bad time, what with the continued Ottoman expansion, economic downturn and several uprisings
this dude in particular is remembered as "king Dobrze" (dobrze - "good" or "well" in Polish) for his habit of just agreeing to everything
at least he had the decency to pave the way to much more competent people by signing a treaty of succession with the Habsburgs, at the same time, he married Ferdinand I. to his daughter Anna, honestly the best decision this man has ever made
there's also some hillarious stuff with him marrying the widow of Matthias Corvinus and becoming a bigamist, but we didn't talk about that on our lectures
basically just a massive L of ruler, if this bracket was about the worst king of Hungary, he and II.András would square off in the finals

Description & Rules
Have you ever wondered why Russia is the way it is? You can thank these beautiful, beautiful people for at least the significant chunk of it! For better or for worse. And we are here to determine which one of them is... Most significant? Interesting? Best (least bad) person? Well, what does "best" mean here is an excercise best left to the audience. In any case, we are here to celebrate their lives and achievements, because Romanovs were historically a lot of things, but never, ever, EVER boring. Which is why they are the best royal house. No I am not sorry @best-habsburg-monarch and @best-hohenzollern-ruler
Okay, I am a little sorry, because they were the ones who gave me the idea. Love you, guys!
Rules:
One poll every Thursday, with regular bonus polls every Friday.
Since historically there have been 18 rulers from the house of Romanov and all of them are unique little snowflakes, none of whom I'd forgive myself for throwing out, I decided for a bit less traditional approach to this poll. Namely, there is going to be a big initial Elimination Round, during which 9 pairs of contestants will compete against each other. Of the 9 winners, the one who has won with by the most narrow margin is also eliminated. Regular Round will thus have 8 contestants and will be followed by Semifinals and Finals.
The contestants are more or less who you'd expect, with some caveats. Namely, I took the liberty to replace Ivan V. with Anna Leopoldovna and Peter II. with Sofia Alexeievna. Because unlike a certain dynasty, we do not involve children in our drama.
I am using English language transliterations of the Russian names. With patronymics.
Propaganda and antipropaganda are encouraged, within reason. You can refer to current events, but please don't make it into a political soapbox! This is ultimately meant to be a tongue-in-cheek historical game, same as the Habsburg and Hohenzollern polls. Also don't be dicks in general, like no racism, sexism, attrocity denial or any other nastiness. That hopefully goes without saying. Also: propaganda does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the admin! I will post any and all propaganda and antipropaganda that fits the basic standards of this poll. If you have any objections to the opinions expressed, argue with the original poster - unless, again, poster is just factually wrong or has said something horrible that I didn't notice.
UPDATE: The roleplay nonsense was transferred onto @best-romanov-monarch-official If you liked that aspect of this blog (which I doubt, or else I wouldn't have scrubbed this blog clean of it), check that account.

The Housekeeping Post
This is... Well, you've read the thumbnail. For Hungarian monarchs who ruled after Mohács I refer you to @best-habsburg-monarch
(A later team-up to better determine the truly best ruler of Hungary is possible, but that's kind of a distant idea as of writing this post.)
Rules:
New rounds of the main poll on Mondays; there may be other irregular or regular bonus polls at the admin's leisure.
More or less following the same model as Best Habsburg Monarch mentioned above, i.e. one-on-one duels organized into brackets. Round 1 has 32 contestants, Round 2 has 16, Round 3 has 8, Semifinals of course 4 and lastly there's Finals, where we crown the Ultimate King Of Hungary.
We are using Hungarian names (even with the idiotic Hungarian system of putting regnal numbers before the names, natch), but in some cases you will see their Slovak names in brackets. Because fuck it, we ARE reclaiming these bitches.
Contestants are more or less taken from the Wikipedia list, with some caveats. Václav III. doesn't count. If anyone feels sorry for him, they are kindly invited to create a kings of Bohemia bracket. (Seriously if someone wants to complete the Visegrád triplet, please do, and then tell us all about it!) Neither does Otto of Bavaria, because I don't know shit about him (I mean his short disputed reign doesn't exactly help his case, but you could argue we are letting in shorter and more spurious reigns, so that's not completely fair). II.Lászo and IV.István are labeled as antikings by Wikipedia, and if we kick them out, we get 32 contestants, which is a very convenient number for a bracket, so there you go.
Don't know who that bitch in the poll is? Never fear, I'll always inform you of what at least my Medieval History teacher said about them!
Polls last a week, of course.
Propaganda, babyyy! Propaganda and antipropaganda are most enthusiastically encouraged, provided they are true and pass the general ethical standards and junk. The caveat being that propaganda does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the admin; all it has to be is ethical and factually correct.

ONTO THE FINALS WAHOO! (Except not really, not yet anyway...)
How the time flies, innit? It feels like yesterday since the Elimination Round was announced. Now we are hosting the finals (coincidentally at the same time as @best-habsburg-monarch is hosting theirs - go check out them as well) and... Hoo boy. Talk about a clash of titans here! Breaker of chains is going against the Romanov dynasty's best girl. This, ladies, gentlemen and all the other honorifics, is not only the final round, but also the very definition of what this tournament stands for. Are we seeking the BEST Romanov, morally speaking (bar is in hell, we know)... Or the MOST Romanov (despite the fact that she was just kinda adopted into the dynasty)?
