Spanish-language Univision is becoming more MAGA-friendly despite Donald Trump's histrionic talk of vermin, concentration camps, and how immigrants are "poisoning the blood of our country".
The famous Trump Univision interview by Enrique Acevedo has some interesting backstory.
During the hour-long interview, Acevedo allowed the former president — who as recently as 2020 called Univision “a leftist propaganda machine” — to openly pander to Latinos' “entrepreneurial” spirit, and to threaten his political opponents by insinuating he would weaponize the Department of Justice against them if he is re-elected.
This interview adds to concerns that the Spanish-language news giant – which in 2016 cut business ties with Trump and his Miss USA beauty pageant after his racist remarks against Mexicans – is shifting its stance on the former president. The Washington Post reported that “Trump is treating Univision and its new corporate owners like long-lost friends. He hosted a trio of its executives at Mar-a-Lago last week during an hour-long Univision interview that was notable for its gracious tone.”
The report also indicated that TelevisaUnivision Mexico co-CEO Bernardo Gomez Martinez, who has a “long working relationship” with Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, was responsible for facilitating the sit-down.
Yep, you may have thought Jared had moved on from his working relationship with El Douché but he's still pulling strings for Trump.
[I]n the days that followed Trump’s interview with Acevedo, some network pundits made the case that Trump has “softened” on immigration in an effort “to repair his relationship” with Latinos – flying in the face of the network’s own reporting about his explicitly stated policies and stance on the issue.
In the days that followed Trump’s interview, Univision regional and national prime-time shows like Al Punto California, Noticiero Univision, and Linea de Fuego have hosted numerous conservative pundits, including former personalities from Americano Media — the Trump-aligned Spanish-language network that ran out of money earlier this year — to defend the former president and argue that he is aiming for “a change in strategy” on Latinos and immigration.
Either those Univision pundits are living in an alternative reality or word came down from the patrón to go easy on El Douché.
Of course Univision's blatant pandering to a virulent racist and hatemonger is not going unchallenged.
Latino backlash grows over Donald Trump’s friendly Univision interview
The nation’s largest Spanish-language media company, Univision, faced growing backlash Friday for its handling of a recent interview with former president Donald Trump, as major Latino advocacy groups delivered a letter of protest to the network’s executives and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus prepared to request a meeting with the network.
Actor and comedian John Leguizamo, who recently took a turn as host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” also posted a video on Instagram on Thursday night calling for a boycott of the network until it stopped its rejection of Biden ads, some of which were canceled just before the Trump interview aired.
“I am asking all my brothers and sisters who are actors, artists, politicians, activists to not go on Univision,” he said in a message in English and Spanish.

Joaquin Blaya, a former president of Univision who created its signature news show in the late 1980s, told The Washington Post in an interview this week that he worried the network had moved away from its founding mission.

The Mexican media company Grupo Televisa, which has long had a close relationship with political power brokers in that country, recently merged with the owners of Univision to take joint control of the company.
“This was Mexican-style news coverage, a repudiation of the concept of separation of business and news,” Blaya said of the Trump interview. “What I saw there was batting practice, someone dropping balls for him to hit out of the park. I think it was an embarrassment.”
What Trump tells MAGA-friendly interviewers from Univision is not what he is telling everybody else. And that interview was heavily edited to make him seem less unpalatable to the audience.
This is the same Trump who called Mexicans "drug dealers", "criminals", and "rapists" and never apologized for his insults nor took them back.

Los nombre de los 75 postulados y postuladas a rectores y rectoras del Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE) que pasaron la etapa de evaluación realizada por el Comité de Postulaciones Electorales, fueron dados a conocer por el Comité de Postulaciones Electorales de la Asamblea Nacional (AN).

Cabe destacar que este miércoles, el vicepresidente del Comité de Postulaciones Electorales, diputado José Gregorio Correa, precisó que la lista con los nombres de los venezolanos seleccionados como elegibles se podrá impugnar durante 6 días, quienes tendrán ese mismo tiempo para hacer los descargos de las objeciones.
El Consejo Nacional Electoral está integrado por cinco (5) miembros, denominados Rectoras o Rectores Electorales, cuyo periodo de ejercicio en sus funciones es de siete (7) años. Son designadas o designados por la Asamblea Nacional con el voto favorable de las dos terceras partes de sus integrantes y podrán ser reelegidas o reelegidos en sus cargos hasta un máximo de dos (2) periodos adicionales, previa evaluación de su gestión por parte de la Asamblea Nacional.

El evento que fue moderado por la periodista Yaniris Felipe, en esta histórica versión de los Juegos Patrios Dominicanos Florida 2017, el Ministro del Ministerio de Deportes y Recreación, Danilo Diaz, dijo que está seguro que este evento que se realizará del 2 al 10 de mes de diciembre del presente año, será todo un éxito no solo por el gran equipo que lo está organizando sino también compromiso con la patria y el entusiasmo mostrado por los jóvenes competirán en 12 disciplinas, más de 600 atletas y por primera vez siete ciudades de toda la Florida que estarán representando el espíritu deportivo que no tiene color, partido, ni religión por qué el amor a la patria y al deporte traspasa fronteras y unirá a todos los dominicanos no importando donde estén, ya que en la justa que tiene como objetivo final desarrollar una gran eliminatoria entre atletas de la Florida, Nueva York, y Europa para competir en los Juegos Nacionales del 2018 que tendrán como escenario la República Dominicana.
“Estoy muy emocionado y no puedo ocultarlo por qué al llegar aquí me he encontrado con figuras que no sabía que estarían y al verlo y saber que se han trasladado de lugares a más de tres horas de distancia de la ciudad de Miami, con un único motivo que es el amor a la patria, y eso nos enorgullece mucho, además ver dominicanos que tienen compromiso de trabajar mañana y que estén en este evento en realidad nos demuestra que los Juegos Patrios tienen garantizado su éxito. En estos momentos se están realizando los Juegos en Nueva York, y había que estar allí para ver a un Felix Sánchez caminar con la antorcha una gloria mundial del atletismo con obstáculos y también ver miles de dominicanos observando centenares de atletas desfilar junto al calor, el entusiasmo, nuestra música y la alegría que caracteriza al pueblo dominicano, fue toda una fiesta de la juventud, evento que fue trasmitido a todo el país a través del Grupo Telemicro y para los Estados Unidos por Telemicro Internacional”.
El Ministro de Deportes recordó que hacían siete años que no se celebrarán estos juegos y además la importancia de involucrar a toda la comunidad dominicana que sobrepasan los cien mil criollos en toda la Florida, y emular la comercialización que tuvieron los Juegos Mao 97′, “Desde el 2010, no se celebraban los Juegos Patrios de Nueva York, La Florida y el país, nosotros al designarnos Ministro de Deportes, nos remontamos a cuando fuimos designado en el año 1996 SubSecretario técnico de Deportes acompañando en esa oportunidad al Secretario en ese entonces la gloria del Deporte e inmortal don Juan Marichal, tuvimos la oportunidad de organizar los Juegos de Mao 97′, que según muchos han sido uno de los mejores que se han celebrado hasta la fecha y tuvieron características muy similares a estos. En esa oportunidad por primera vez participó una delegación de aquí Estados Unidos, de la sexta zona como le llamamos a Nueva York y la Florida de ahí salieron figuras que después trascendieron cómo fue el caso del NBA Francisco García, entre otros”

De su lado en consul general de la República Dominicana en Miami dijo estar confiado y seguro de que el comité que hoy queda juramentado garantiza el éxito total de estos Juegos Patrios Dominicanos Florida 2017, por su experiencia y capacidad “Hoy 22 de agosto es un día extraordinariamente especial por qué se trata de celebrar y rescatar los Juegos Patrios, no solamente sino también en Nueva York, Puerto Rico y Europa. Representamos aquí en nuestra persona la comunidad deportiva que vamos a realizar unos juegos sin precedentes; nosotros debido a que contamos con un equipo de técnicos con amplia experiencia en las actividades deportiva y eso nos garantiza que vamos a realizar unos juegos que tiene que ver con el orgullo del pueblo dominicano y los que aman el deporte en la comunidad dominicana de la ciudad de Miami y el Estado de la Florida.
Queremos decirles que aunque hoy se están juramentando está comité organizador, estamos abiertos para que personalidades que nos visitan el día de hoy se integren de manera militante a estos juegos que somos la Patria, que somos Todos. Hoy contamos con la presencia de la autoridades de la policía de la Florida, además tenemos como colaboradores a la asociación de Policías de la ciudad de Miami, quienes van a trabajar con nosotros en la seguridad de los desfiles de todos los atletas, técnicos y el público en general, reiteramos el entusiasmo que hemos visto en este comité organizador desde el principio que hicimos la primera reunión en la que usted señor ministro participó y ha podido ver la calidad de los que van a participar en este evento que pondrá en alto el nombre de la República Dominicana, y desde ahora le decimos a usted Ministro que prepare sus atletas allá en Santo Domingo, por qué en marzo 2018 en los Juegos Nacionales, se van a ver de frente con la comunidad deportiva de Miami” puntualizó el cónsul Miguel Ángel Rodríguez.
Acto seguido el Bernardo Martinez, vicecónsul coordinador de los Juegos Patrios Dominicanos Florida 2017, manifestó que “Quisiera que primero nos pongamos de pie, por qué hablando de Deportes hay un acontecimiento que nos entristece y es que la noche del día de ayer falleció don Rafael Felo Ramirez, uno de los grandes locutores Latinoamericanos muy buen amigo de la comunidad dominicana y quisiera por favor a la anuencia de todos ustedes un minuto de silencio a su memoria, un saludo muy especial a todos los miembros que se van a juramentar con los que hemos compartido fraternalmente las últimas semanas. Queremos darles un fuerte abrazo a los amigos dirigentes que se han desplazados desde Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, Ford Myers, Broward y Hollywood y se han trasladado a esta ciudad de Miami a darnos este importante soporte. Hoy nos hemos congregado en este emblemático lugar junto a este grupo de damas y caballeros que hoy se juramentan para dar inicio formal a una ruta que nos guiará hacia un magno evento que marcará el antes y después y que sentará las bases para que nuestros jóvenes deportistas de origen Dominicanos en la Florida se sientan identificados con sus raíces”, destacó Bernardo Martínez.
En el evento equipo técnicos administrativo juramentado está conformado por el cónsul Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, Bernardo Martínez, Amaury Ríos, los inmortales del Salón de la Fama del Deporte Dominicano Hugo Cabrera y Eduardo Gómez, Enríque Sarubbi, Fausto Jon, Sergio Guerrero, Isidro Made Ogando, Melody Then, Maritza Tapia, Aridio Genao, Sandra Peña, Pablo Yunes, José Rosario, Marcos Julián, Raymundo Vazquez, Aridio Genao, José Frank Rodríguez, Eduardo Gómez, Virginia Echevarría, Johnny Matthews, Magaly Mella, Luis Delgado Carmelo Infante, Eddy Gomez, Cesar Mancebo y Lourdes Pina, Marcos A Tejeda, Yaniris Felipe y Edwin Abreu. Entre los asistentes también estuvieron figuras de mucha importancia en el ámbito deportivo entre ellos se destaca el Ex jugador de Grandes Ligas el Lanzador Juan Guzman, Maximo Tepo Tapia, la sargento de origen dominicano Yaritza Cedano quien sirvió de traductora a la Jefa de la Policía de Miami además, los dirigentes Jason Prats, William Carrasco, Edmundo Roque, Eduviges Araujo, Manuel Arturo Machado y Felix Taveras.

El domingo 5 de febrero Andrés Manuel López Obrador, dirigente nacional del partido Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional, encabezó en Xalapa, capital de Veracruz, la firma del “Acuerdo Político de Unidad por la Prosperidad del Pueblo y el Renacimiento de México”.
El evento reunió a miles de seguidores y simpatizantes de AMLO frente al palacio del gobierno estatal veracruzano y en el contexto del primer centenario de la Constitución impulsada en 1917 por Venustiano Carranza hacia el final de la etapa armada de la Revolución Mexicana de 1910.

Parte del discurso del llamado “Peje” incluyó estas palabras:
“El 20 de noviembre de 2016, en el Congreso celebrado en la Ciudad de México, los delegados del Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional (Morena) aprobamos la convocatoria abierta a mujeres y hombres, pobres y ricos, a pobladores del campo y de la ciudad, religiosos o libre pensadores, para luchar juntos y lograr, por la vía pacífica y legal, un cambio de régimen y hacer de la honestidad una forma de vida y de gobierno.
Llamamos a todos los mexicanos a incorporarse a la gran tarea de transformación nacional, no solo a simpatizantes y a ciudadanos independientes sino también a los militantes de otros partidos.
Nuestros adversarios están en las cúpulas de poder económico y político y en las burocracias corruptas de los partidos. Abajo no tenemos diferencias con nadie; el problema está arriba. En realidad, son muy pocos los que oprimen a muchos. En la base y en las clases medias hay un profundo deseo de liberación, de hacer realidad la justicia y de establecer una auténtica democracia.”

Mientras esta firma se sumaba a una serie de recorridos de AMLO por Veracruz –tercera reserva electoral del país- cientos, miles de fundadores y verdaderos militantes de MORENA con base en la convicción de que su líder les hablaba con la verdad y a partir de sus propios afanes personales o de grupo por contender en los comicios del próximo 4 de junio, terminaban de afinar sus proyectos de candidaturas y pugnaban porque MORENA pusiera el ejemplo de una elección democrática interna, con piso parejo, transparencia, respeto a sus normas y coherencia entre las palabras y los hechos.
Hombres y mujeres armaron expedientes, celebraron asambleas, observaron y denunciaron cómo la todopoderosa diputada Rocío Nahle García y el dirigente legal pero convertido apenas en un ayudante Manuel Rafael Huerta Ladrón de Guevara, desplazaron a los comités fundadores de MORENA y colocaron en su lugar a nuevos delegados a modo, sin respetar el principio democrático de la consulta, la comunicación horizontal, la convocatoria en tiempo y forma mandatada por el Instituto Nacional Electoral y sin demostrar que el plazo de mando –como argumentaron- había vencido.
La Ley establece que tales comités duran tres años y el plazo no se había cumplido al momento del ajuste.

Se veía venir, pues, la traición interna de MORENA. El doble discurso del partido que dirige el precandidato presidencial mejor posicionado de cara a los comicios del 2018.
La falsedad tan criticada en el PRI; PAN y anexas importada a un partido sin precedentes históricos: muy cerca del poder presidencial a sólo tres años de haberse creado.
Se gestaba una prueba irrefutable de que MORENA no es un partido, es una marca propiedad de Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
El dueño de la marca electoral comparte el poder con quien –estratégicamente- le conviene y en el caso de Veracruz lo hizo con Rocío Nahle García.
A su vez, la coordinadora de MORENA en la Cámara Baja del Congreso de la Unión es todo menos una demócrata.
Rocío miente.
Rocío impone.
Rocío manipula.
Rocío va por sus intereses, habla sin escuchar, ejerce el poder en forma vertical y se vende como una loba con piel de oveja. Su conocimiento profundo sobre la temática energética la pone en la palestra nacional; pero sus convicciones y actuar político evocan al viejo PRI, al partido de la democracia perfecta, al México que debe convertirse en pasado para poder salir adelante.

Ayer: LA COMISIÓN NACIONAL DE ELECCIONES SOBRE EL PROCESO INTERNO LOCAL EN EL ESTADO DE VERACRUZ DE IGNACIO DE LA LLAVE dio a conocer la lista de candidatos a alcaldías y sindicaturas en los 212 municipios de Veracruz.
No hubo elección interna. No hubo consulta a la base. No hubo viso alguno de ejercicio democrático. Vamos, no hubo siquiera una tómbola como la que se empleó en el pasado para garantizar que Rocío Nahle García llegara al poder, jugada finalmente innecesaria...
Ahorita sí, en MORENA; ni la burla perdonaron.
Su lista incluye abanderados y abanderadas de chile, de dulce y de manteca: amigos, compadres, militantes de morena pero también priístas y panistas prófugos, desempleados en busca de presupuestos públicos para "reponerse".
Gente que viene de otros partidos o de la sociedad civil menos de MORENA.
Anoche, en las redes sociales, los morenistas de verdad protestaron y se preparan impugnaciones. Por lo pronto el palo está dado.

En términos legales la selección se candidatos se apega a la norma interna de MORENA.
Dice en el considerando:
Tercero. – Que la selección final de candidaturas de MORENA a cargos de elección popular, se deberá realizar de acuerdo con la utilización armónica de los métodos de elección, insaculación y/o encuesta, de conformidad con las bases y principios establecidas en el artículo 44, del Estatuto de
MORENA…
Y en el resultando:
Tercero. – Que en sesión permanente celebrada los días 20, 21, 22, 23 y 24 de febrero del año en curso, la Comisión Nacional de Elecciones llevó a cabo la revisión exhaustiva y verificó el cumplimiento de requisitos de las solicitudes de registro de los aspirantes. Asimismo, se realizó la calificación y valoración del perfil de cada uno de los aspirantes registrados, tomando en cuenta su trayectoria política, laboral y profesional y, considerando fundamentalmente la selección del candidato idóneo que consolidará la estrategia político electoral de Morena en los municipios del Estado de Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave.

Quinto. - Una vez realizados los procedimientos estatutarios y con base en lo expuesto en los numerales que anteceden, la Comisión Nacional de Elecciones da a conocer las solicitudes de registro aprobadas de las candidaturas a Presidentes/as Municipales y Síndicos/as que se numeran a continuación…
