Erica Strange: I used to be a straight-A student and everyone said I had a bright future ahead of me, but now I'm entering my thirties unable to hold onto an entry level job!
Me: (sweating profusely) Heh heh... can't relate.
Absolutely shocking and fascinating to rewatch Being Erica and discover that the version of the show on streaming services has replaced all the licensed music with random royalty free stuff. When it aired I bought the third season on iTunes and even that version has not retained this HUGE component of this show’s creative identity.
I’m very grateful to still have this show on physical media. Even if the video quality of these releases is a bit below usual DVD standards, I’m never letting go of these discs.
Anyways this is your weekly reminder to cling tight to your DVD collections.
season 3 of Being Erica so far has been a pretty noticeable drop in quality but someone involved seemed to have detected that and compensated with an increase in gay??
Like I don't care about the Therapist Lore or Irish Kai but they retconned Goblins into being an upscale cafe owned by an adorable couple, and Erica and Julianne rent office space from them so they are literal neighbors, and all of a sudden Julianne is calling Erica "chicken" as a pet name literally every scene they share, and saying stuff like "you complete me", and Erica is having retroactive dancing pole-offs with her ex-boyfriend's ex-wife
“It’s not easy at all. You hurt. And you live with it. And you sit in it. And you suffer…until it stops. Until time takes it away.” - Dr. Tom on Being Erica
I didn't know Being Erica would still have so much power to soothe emotional growing pains, thank God it does though. Maybe I should rewatch Dead Like Me next
