Yui.

Finally caught up with the Daiya manga, and a couple of little details jumped out at me.

Yui recognised Chris from Marukame Senior. It’s one thing to know about Chris from Seidou, but I don’t suppose even Eijun knows what team Chris played for in middle school. The fact Yui knows suggests he’s been watching senior league games for a long time - because he’s too young to have played against Chris.

Which makes me ask the question, did he and his team play against Miyuki at any point? Did he sit in the dugout as a first year watching and learning?

I said it before but Yui is massively underrated by too much of the Daiya fandom. I don’t know if this is because they think Koushuu is cuter, or they see Yui as a rival for Koushuu, or what it is. But little by little details are emerging about this guy that make him super interesting as a character.

I love that Eijun acknowledged his batting prowess in this game, because we saw him hit a decent ball as well in an earlier tournament game. Both Yui and Masashi were key parts of the Sousei game in different ways on the field. But we’ve seen Yui’s self confidence take a knock - not even feeling like he rates as a catcher in this team.

Having him acknowledged by Eijun and having Eijun and Yui interaction in this chapter was really important in my opinion.

I like all the Seidou catchers, and I’m equally fond of Yui and Koushuu. But I genuinely think that,at this point in their development it’s actually Yui who is the most useful to the team and the best adjusted to play as part of a team formation.

For all Koushuu’s antics are funny and his potential huge, he has thus far been more useful to the team in a Nabe-detail scouting role, rather than for any of his plays thus far (of course that may change going forward).

Without Ono’s injury, there would not have been a place for him in the summer squad, whereas Yui was already in the spring one. Yui is just more mature than Koushuu is. Koushuu learned a lot from the horrible mess that was the Seihou game, but he’s still playing catch-up in the team department.

If there were to be an act III, the core focus of that would have to be the catcher contest. And frankly, though I see a lot of people assuming Koushuu must be the number 2 when Miyuki retires, I feel he’s got a pretty stiff rival in Yui who is not going to give up.

And I think Koushuu knows it too. Did anyone else notice how prickly his aura got when Eijun was calling Yui Hercules and singing his praises from the touchline?

This is a battle that’s not over yet. May the best catcher win.

Day 2: Top Three Characters

this was so damn hard, but..

Miyuki Kazuya

- ABSOLUTE LOVE OF MY LIFE !! THE CATCHER OF MY HEART !! 💕

- it would take me about 1000 page essay to explain all the reasons i love miyuki, but to summarize: he's gorgeous, he's talented, and he's incredibly dedicated. from the first couple episodes of daiya, I knew that i was gonna fall in love with him (im unfortunately attracted to charismatic assholes). he literally just does stuff because he's interested for self-benefit and teasing people to no end and im like, "wow amazing truly inspiring". lol

- but then on the flip side, miyuki is so serious and dedicated to being a catcher (and by default, the backbone of the team). i find his passion to be extremely inspiring because his character is more emotionally or rather, personally closed off - so seeing him having fun catching or calling pitches makes my heart melt.

- oh yeah and he's hot ???? with glasses, without glasses, regular clothes, uniform, catcher gear, that dumb sideways cap he used to wear .. just... ATTRACTIVE ALL THE TIME uuughhh and his eyes YALLLL

Sawamura Eijun

- THE SUN !! THE ABSOLUTE SUNSHINE OF SEIDOU!! ☀

- usually the main protag gets a bunch of love, but sawamura eijun holds a special place in my heart. from the very beginning, eijun has produced this infectious happiness and joy that has never failed to make me super motivated or just smile. obviously, this energy effects the team positively and even in the difficult times (yips; nationals loss) - sawamura has always pushed forward and encouraged everyone around him - even players that arent on his team! ugh i just,, i love him so much. im so proud of all his work and accomplishments and i will stan him til the DAY I DIE

Kominato Haurichi

- MY PINK CHILDD !! A TINY PRECIOUS ROSE !! 🌹

not only is haruichi one of the most underrated characters, but also one of the most precious. beyond his cute face and those adorable bangs (well not for long), haruichi is a WHOLE ASS FORCE to be reckoned with. when he came thru with that wooden bat and those home run-level swings, I WAS SHOOK. as much as i hate how everyone downplays haruichi's ability because of his size, i kinda love it ?? because he gets to prove everyone wrong. and he's had SO much development as a character; between finding himself as a player outside of his brother's shadow and strengthening his position on the team as a heavy hitter and 1/2 of keystone combo. just, I LOVE HIM. and don't even think about comin for my pink son
