When I asked @panthdeepak , a friend, and local expert being native of Nepal, about places to visit in Kathmandu, he said, “Go to Durbar Square,you would like it, also Bhaktapur is a beautiful place.” When I searched Google baba showed me the magical pictures of Bhaktapur Durbar Square and I started planning to visit it as it’s a little away from the city of Kathmandu. . . . Next day I had some time and convinced by the ubiquitous autowala (cycle rickshaw) decided to take a ride to the New Road, a local market. I did not find anything interesting at the market which reminded me of Lakshmi Road of Pune and was more targeted for the ladies of Nepal. So I was out of there in two minutes and just decided to walk around. . . . Few minutes of walk took me to a booth where a lot of tourists were buying tickets from and then disappearing onto the alley leading towards some heritage looking buildings around the corner. Being the SAARC national it was a pretty cheap ticket (100n Nepali Rupees/62.5INR). After a minute I had already bought the ticket and on my way following the crowd. . . . What I discovered serendipitously was the most beautiful place in Kathmandu, the Durbar Square. And yes there are three different durbar squares in and around Kathmandu, each representing royal palaces of former kingdoms. And Bhaktapur Durbar Square is different than the Kathmandu Durbar Square 🙈 . I later found out that Nepal had many small kingdoms, in fact just too many to keep track of. . . . I spent about three hours exploring the various parts of the square including a few heritage structures, a former royal palace, even Kumari Bahal/Mahal, the place where living goddess of Nepal lives, a kal bhairav temple. Just sitting there on one of the platforms outside the temples was so peaceful, even amongst the crowd of people flocking the place. It was a time travel experience surrounded by the buildings dating back atleast a few centuries, being in the ancient kingdom of Nepal. I could not stop falling in love with Lake Phewa in Pokhara. I was up quiet early on this day and was in a hostel at a stone throw away from the lake. Decided to take a walk and the morning was just beautiful at the lake. . . . One of my favourite things to do in any new place is just take a walk early morning and watch people go about their business in the silence of the morning. It’s like meditation for me. . . I sat on a canopied bench and set my tiny beast DJI Osmo Pocket 📷on a mount and set it on a motion lapse mode while I spent my time observing the early risers, morning walkers, photo tourists and the local hawkers and shopkeepers going about their business.
