psstttt... have you played swsh yet? if yes, what are your thoughts on the characters?
Tumblr media
yes! I’ve played and I love it!
The characters are all so good, though I’ve only got Shield so characters like Bea and Gordie I don’t have much of an opinion on:
Hop: I never cared for rival characters aside from Trace in LPLE, so Hop is kind of bland for me. At least he wasn’t like the next one:
Before I move on to the long post response of my opinion on all the characters I just wanna add a bonus here first:
Ball Guy: A weirdo with a good mission. Not the hero we need but the hero we deserve. Thank you Ball Guy for giving me cool rare Pokeballs I’ll never use and thank you for giving me your card. I will frame it and hang it up to admire it with love. Bless you Ball Guy for cheering me on in your own odd little way.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Bede: I do not like him. Gary 2.0. tragic backstory doesn’t do much to change my opinion either. But it was after he was picked up by Opal that it kind of grew on me a bit and I think that was a really good choice.
Marnie: Adorable and sweet and is just a really good friend. She is confident and strong but a little shy and I adore her. so much. Where can I sign up for Team Yell to support her? She has excellent taste in Pokemon, too. 100/10
Sonia: I don’t have anything to say? Pretty cool though that she became the Professor in the end! Watching her little side journey of getting there!
Prof.Magnolia: Didn’t have much of a presence in the game and didn’t exactly do much. But she seems like she would be a cool grandma.
Team Yell: Just a group of people who genuinely love and support Marnie like some over excited parents at their kids first big sports game. They have good hearts but are often unaware of how they’re acting and how that is affecting the people around them. They got the spirit, but are just a bit confused.
Milo: He big beef and a sweetie. He has grown a bit on me after playing through the game. He is a very sweet guy and I greatly appreciate him and his genuine love and care he gives to everyone and his Pokemon and the wild Pokemon, too. His challenge was so cute and fun.
Nessa: She is pretty.. I honestly don’t know what else to say. She is beautiful, though she can be a tad rude sometimes, but who isn’t? Like a 20-something internet model celebrity and probably a pro-swimmer.
Kabu: ....I am shamelessly on the bandwagon of “Kabu is hot“ because he is and I can’t help it.. He is a goofy and serious fun guy who has such an amazing Pokemon that I worked so hard to get my own of. 100/10 would hold hands with him. His trot is silly and cute and I just can’t get enough of him. He is just a very genuine sweetheart with a fiery and childish spirit.
Allister: MY SON. I have adopted him the moment I laid my eyes on him. He is adorable and precious and is the only one who gave me a challenge during the game. I love this little boy and will protect him from everyone and everything. I will give him everything and anything he wants.
Opal: I have adopted this kooky old lady as my grandma. She is excellent and I absolutely love her. Back in her prime she was drop dead gorgeous and she is still pretty today in her old age. I’m just sorry I failed her quiz jfhfgadfgsf Her gym and her battle were so much fun to go through, I would face her again if I could! Has officially adopted Bede as her own grandson.
Melony: She is thick! And warm! and sweet! and soft! and beautiful! And her gym mission had me in a state of anxiety and panic as I ran through the foggy frozen field of pitfall traps to get to her. A+ mom, I want her to adopt me.
Piers: Feral mongoose boy. A cute punk whom has stolen my heart the first time I laid my eyes on him. I want lifetime tickets to all of his shows and merch of his, too. He was the best and I am SO happy to have had him join me around the region at the end and in the post-game. Absolutely beautiful man.
Raihan: Basic pretty boy of the region. Which seems to be a running theme with dragon type users? I have seen at least a few people call him an “e-boy“ and I haven’t the slightest idea what that even means... but he isn’t bad looking and certainly had the most bizarre battle breaking rules with having one non-dragon type Pokemon and utilizing weather conditions? Wild.
Leon: ...He has pretty eyes. And should have only been in the fancy outfit he wears post-game when you fight him again. He looks so good like that. Not much else I can say really.. other than I made my goal to end his career and I did just that with minimal struggle. Bet he enjoys his free time now.
Oleana: ...She is tol and pretty.. and I have a big crush on her. It’s really cute she has a Garbodor and I headcanon she babies and spoils it. She is dedicated to her job and doesn’t mind at all doing community service in place of the chairman. She is very intimidating but in only the best way. I love her.
Chairman Rose: He thicc, he good looking, he is a himbo. He has his heart in the right place, but is a little confused about how to properly go about things. I adore him and am pretty sad I don’t get to hang out with him post-game like you could with Archie and Maxie in ORAS. However, I do gotta say I was not expecting his battle music to be like THAT. But I am not disappointed! His animations and expressions have been such a treat for me..... as is his silly incognito outfit. I can’t get over that outfit, love his anklet. I would gladly hold hands with this man.
Sordward & Shielbert: 🔪🗡️🔥 I’d love to take a pair of hedge clippers to their hair. gOSH WHY DOES IT FLOP LIKE THAT. WHY. Horrible characters. The true villains of the game. Their names are also a crime like their hair. They look like a pair of Japanese game show hosts. -10000/10 I highly recommend using fire types with luck incense and amulet coins when going up against them.

Chapter Sixty- One: Third Anniversary
Note- sorry for uploading on the wrong blog
Hey guys! Sorry this took so long to get out- I vow from here on out not to do party chapters anymore because the pictures are so hard to get it’s insane.
Okay- also, yesterday , August 18th, was the Aristocrat’s third year anniversary of existing! That’s wild, I don’t think I’ve ever stuck with anything that long. Anyways, enjoy!
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “LUCKY! I need your help!”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “Hey, mom, what’s up I’m about to head to work.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “You can’t go to work, it’s Aristocrat Day! A new holiday just for us and we get the day off of work!”
Lucky: “I know I just have a few appointments this morning and then I’ll be back home.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “You’re going to work? In your pajamas?”
Lucky: “They’re scrubs.”
Beatrice: “Just because the patient is a scrub doesn’t mean you don’t need to dress well.”
Lucky: “No, this is my uniform. Nobody’s hanging out the passenger side of his best friends ride. Okay- I really need to go.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “You’re leaving me understaffed and under-appreciated, Lucky. I am your mother!”
Lucky: “Yeah, uh-huh. I’ll see you at the party.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “Okay, but just make sure that you pick up the gift bags at the party shop on the way home!
Lucky: “Sure, no worries. See you tonight.”
Beatrice: “Useless, absolutely useless. Lorne! Come here and hold the ladder- and call the rest of our children to help me set up, since Lucky ditched us.”
Tumblr media
Lorne: “I take it that means I’m not allowed to wander off until the party starts?”
Beatrice: “Do that and I swear I will divorce you.”
Lorne: “Very funny, dear.”
Beatrice: “I’m not joking.”
Lorne: “I know.”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “Sorry I’m late.”
Courtney: “Heh, no worries, so is Mr. Rose.”
Lucky: “Then I guess it’s not an issue. Are all the machines warmed up?”
Tumblr media
Courtney: “Yep- not that it needs to get any hotter!”
Lucky: “You can say that again. The rain didn’t make it any cooler, just more humid. Is it possible that my hair is even frizzier than normal?”
Courtney: “Mmm, nope, I don’t this that is possible.”
Lucky: “Oh, ha-ha.”
[Bzzzzttt]
Tumblr media
Lucky: “What was that?”
Courtney: “I think the power went out.”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “Does that mean we get to go home early?”
Courtney: “Yeah, I think it does. Want a ride to the party?”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “Sure, I just have to get the gift bags on the way home. Let me just call Mr. Rose”
Courtney: “Uh- Lucky? Remember those really expensive cloud-based doors you made us get that hooked up to the rest of the office?”
Lucky: “Yeah?”
Courtney: “I think it just locked us in.”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “Locked us in? That’s not possible, it can’t do that- can it do that?”
Courtney: “I dunno, ask that rude talking toilet upstairs if it can do that.”
Lucky: “I still don’t know why they made the control panel a toilet. Let me go check.”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “The toilet is dead too.”
Courtney: “I tried calling customer service, the phones are down.”
Lucky: “Super. I guess we just have to wait out the storm.”
Tumblr media
Courtney: “Or maybe just hope that your mom scares the storms away.”
Lucky: “Possibly, if she wasn’t holding the party at the old mansion in Oasis Springs.”
Courtney: “Oh.”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “Yeah. We’re trapped. Did you try the windows yet?”
Courtney: “Yup.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “Where in god’s name is Lucky I need those gift bags right now the party is starting! Everyone we know is invited! This is going to be a disaster!”
Tumblr media
Lorne: “It’ll be amazing. It’ll just be a bunch of people drinking, throwing confetti, and giving gifts competitively. Nothing could ruin today! It’s our third birthday as a family!”
Milo: “Seriously, mom, it’ll be great.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “I wish I could be that optimistic. Where the hell is Lucky?!”
Lorne: “Why don’t we just ask someone else to bring it?”
Beatrice: “Then we would have too many gift bags, Lorne. Do you really want that many gift bags? There are perishable items in there, Lorne. Do you want them to perish? Do you?’
Lorne: “Yes, that’s what I want.”
Tumblr media
Courtney: “So…”
Lucky: “So?”
Courtney: “How’s Trip?”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “Oh- he’s good, we just went camping last weekend.”
Courtney: “Camping? I thought you hated camping.”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “I’m...figuring it out. Still finding twigs in my hair, though.”
Courtney: “Or you could do what I do- not go camping.”
Lucky: “Sure, sure- Emily doesn’t make you do anything annoying on weekends?”
Tumblr media
Courtney: “I mean...would you consider going hiking with a bunch of cats on leashes annoying?”
Lucky: “Yes. I would think that. You’re a dog person, anyways.”
Courtney: “That I am. Even more so since I’ve put sunscreen on a cat.”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “A hairless cat?”
Courtney: “...no. A regular one. A lot of regular ones.”
Lucky: “Yikes.”
~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
Lucky: “So then, I said ‘where’s my pencil!’”
Courtney: “Ha!!”
Lucky: “Yeah, so that’s the story of the time our teen chapter was almost the Breakfast Club.”
Tumblr media
Courtney: “Why’d it get scrapped?”
Lucky: “Oh, because we refused to dance in sync. Sad, but true.”
Courtney: “Devastating.”
---
Tumblr media
Lucky: “So the seven of llamas is worth less than the five of gnomes? That doesn’t make any sense.”
Courtney: “That’s how we played it at camp, so, camp rules, I’m afraid.”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “Oh, BS.”
Courtney: “What are you gonna do? Look it up?”
Lucky: “I wouldn’t have to look it up if you had kept the little card with all the rules on it like a normal person..”
Tumblr media
Courtney: “Tsk tsk- so critical, but which one of us had a pack of cards available in case of emergencies?”
--
Tumblr media
Lorne: “Okay, people are arriving for the party. I haven’t been able to get a hold of Lucky, but otherwise, we’re looking great!”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “How can you say such a thing? When Taffy went out to get decorations, she only got foundation banners! This house doesn’t even have a foundation? What the hell am I supposed to do with these banners, Lorne? Huh? The friezes are naked.”
Lorne: “Good for them, it is hot.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “Is this all a joke to you? This is a landmark occasion!”
Tumblr media
Lorne: “I know that, my love, but one of our listed holiday activities is drinking and I am a world renowned mixologist- how about you let me cheer up the party by getting everybody heroically drunk?”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “What would I do without you, Lorne?”
Lorne: “You’ll never find out, m’dear. I’m planning on us going out like your Grandpa Thaddeus and Glamma Clementine- synchronized, in the middle of a party, in the smallest room of the house, blocking the door.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “That is so romantic. Not this party, though, this party has to go perfectly, do you understand? If you die at this party, I’ll kill you.”
Lorne: “Yes ma’am.”
Tumblr media
Zuri: “How have you guys been?”
Two: “Excellent, adopted mother. The infant is purple, but not an alien.”
Tumblr media
Zuri: “Well, that’s fun. Prue- is being a real vampire again fun?”
Prue: “Not as fun as a purple baby- I bet.”
Tumblr media
Patty: “Bea! How are you, dear?”
Beatrice: “You- but- you’re so- how are you still so young.?!”
Patty: “Resurrection, darling. You look...great. Like a fine wine.”
Beatrice: “One more word and you’ll be getting a glass of wine in your face. Nice pantsuit.”
Patty: “I know, right?”
Tumblr media
Milo: “So...Great-Glampa and great uncle? Is that right?”
Wolfgang: “At this point, who the hell knows. Just drink and try not to call anybody by the wrong name.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “Dad?!”
Ivan: “Oh...shit...I don’t think so. I’m not that old.”
Beatrice: “No- we came from the future- remember?”
Tumblr media
Ivan: “No?”
Beatrice: “This is so weird- I haven’t seen you since you abandoned us with a wealthy stranger with a bitchy daughter!”
Ivan: “That sounds like something I would do, let’s be real here.”
Tumblr media
Eliza: “So...stole my hair, huh Meg?”
“Heh, uh...my hair looks like this now, though. So…”
Eliza: “What’s with the little metal glove.”
“...summer soldier.”
Eliza: “God damnit”
Tumblr media
Trip: “Excuse me, have you seen Lucky? We were supposed to go camping after this party, but I can’t find her.”
Emily: “Oh, I love camping! My cats and I go all the time.”
Tumblr media
Trip: “You know, if you’re doing that out in the sun it’s really important to put sun-”
Emily: “-screen.”
Milo: “Weird.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “Charles! How are you!”
Charles: “Good- still blonde, even though I’m old.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “I’ve been thinking about you recently. Remember bachelorette? Good times...I’ve been watching that show and you’re lucky I was the girl they just left the guy in the chicken suit in the desert after he fell off a bunk bed onto his face.”
Charles: “What...really?”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “Really. It was awesome. How about a hug- for old times?”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “You’re still so strong. Nuh-uh- no letting go. Just another second.”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “Man it is still raining hard out there. Looks like we’re going to miss the party.”
Courtney: “That’s too bad- I know you were looking forward to it”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “It’s not that important. Would’ve been nice to see everybody though- Meghan resurrected Aunt Patty for this. I guess we’ll see her around.”
Courtney: “If we’re not going to make it, I should at least give you your gift.”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “You didn’t have to get me anything! What is it? Gimme!”
Courtney: “Very modest.”
Lucky: “It’s...what is it?”
Courtney: “It’s- heh- it’s your hat. When we met your hat flew off into the ocean- I was walking Peaches a few days later and it had washed up on the beach. It’s super gross, I know, I’ve been trying to clean it for like a month but it just wouldn’t- oh!”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “Sorry!”
Courtney: “Don’t apologize!”
Tumblr media
Lucky: “I just...can’t believe you remembered at all. I’m not used to people actually listening when I go on about things.”’
Courtney: “Really? I feel like I remember most things that you’ve said to me. Though- um, I guess I might not remember if I forgot them. Besides- that was how we met. I wasn’t going to forget that.”
Lucky: “Thank you, Courtney. I mean it.”
Tumblr media
Courtney: “Of course. You’re special to me, Lucky.”
Lucky: “You’re...special to me too.”
Tumblr media
Courtney: “Heh, well, ahem….this rain is never going to let up is it?”
Lucky: “I’m not sure I mind so much, anymore.”
-
Tumblr media
Natasha: “Time for presents everyone!”
Beatrice: “Okay, everyboy has the perfect gift- but no gift bags! This is a disaster!”
Tumblr media
Milo: “A moustache trimmer and a whistle in case I get kidnapped again. Thanks mom. Dusty- what’d you get?”
Tumblr media
Dusty: “A cage for my alien baby in case it can float! Thanks mom!”
Tumblr media
Natalia: “Even darker sunglasses! I won’t be able to see anything in these I love it!”
Zuri: “A box of spiders? Awesome!”
Tumblr media
Natasha: “Is this… it’s just a piece of paper that says attention. I think this is for you, Bea.”
Beatrice: “Thanks mom. That’s really sweet I guess. Here’s your real present.”
Natasha: “Ah, the Aristocrat! Fifteen maraschino cherries with aspirin ground up along the rim.”
Tumblr media
Lorne: “Happy Aristocrat Day, m’dear. My gift to you- a single rose. Like all those ones you gave to me when I won the bachelorette.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “That’s very sweet, but also kind of a weak present. But sweet.”
Lorne: “Well, I also saved your party.”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “I guess you did.”
Lorne: “Also, I knew you were complaining that your jewelry drawer wouldn’t close, so I didn’t get you any earrings- I just got you this bag of loose diamonds.”
Beatrice: “*weeping* I love you so much, Lorne!”
Lorne: “Oh, and one more thing, I found the perfect thing to give out instead of the gift bags that Lucky never brought.”
Beatrice: “What?”
Tumblr media
Lorne: “Honey, honey! From all the bees we have!”
Tumblr media
Beatrice: “Bees?”
Lorne: “Bees!
Tumblr media
Thanks for reading! At the beginning of generation nine and the third year anniversary of the Aristocrat Legacy (August 18th) I just wanted to say thank you for sticking with it, even though I’m like 40% suspicious that nobody reads it but I like to think somebody is. I went back and reread almost all of it and I must say I was pretty proud of myself for how actually funny I found a lot of it (not all of it, mind you, but enough of it to be proud)- I don’t have a lot of platforms to deliver my dumb funny stories so thank you to boolprop for being that platform for me and letting me imagine that I made some people laugh. Thanks for reading!
13 LGBTQ Films to See Out Of Fall Blockbuster Film Festivals
As summer winds down, film awards season is simply ramping into top gear — bringing together some of this year’s most exciting LGBTQ-themed releases, including a particularly powerful roster of lesbian films.
A trio of powerhouse festivals — Colorado’s Telluride Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival along with Toronto International Film Festival– may tussle amongst one another to exhibit the most esteemed film premieres, but jointly they’ve gained a reputation for being the festivals to watch for some of the season’s strongest Oscar contenders. A solid half of last year’s Best Picture Academy Award contenders debuted at one of those three festivals, including the season’s biggest awards-season titans, “Moonlight” and “La La Land.”
On this season’s Telluride festival only wrapped, Venice festival still in progress along with Toronto festival (TIFF) set to open on Thursday, 2018 awards buzz is already jelling around a few names. Here are our selections for the most exciting LGBTQ films to come out of Telluride, Venice and TIFF this year.
Disobedience
Lady Rachel Weisz in the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2015 in Cannes, France. Pool / Getty Images
It is Rachelmania since Rachel Weisz portrays Ronit, ” a New York-based photographer who returns to London following the death of her dad (an Orthodox Jewish rabbi) and finds herself a effective childhood bond using Esti (Rachel McAdams), who’s now married to Ronit’s cousin. Depending on the award-winning debut book of the exact same name by British writer Naomi Alderman, the film is directed by white-hot Chilean director Sebastián Lelio, and it’s his first outside of his native nation.
“To watch Weisz and McAdams, just two A-listers in a lesbian-themed movie of gravity, will probably be very interesting,” Merryn Johns, editor-in-chief of Curve magazine, told NBC News. “I believe the topic of lesbian desire contrary to the obstacles of expressing faith is a really strong theme to be exploring right now.”
An Excellent Woman
Additionally led by Sebastián Lelio, this winner of the Teddy Award for Best Feature at this year’s Berlin Film Festival stars trans celebrity Daniela Vega as Marina, a young waitress/singer who, following the unexpected death of her elderly lover, Orlando, faces scrutiny from law enforcement and scorn and abuse against Orlando’s household. Vega’s strong performance is already garnering her dark horse Best Actress Oscar buzz.
Screening at Telluride and TIFF; in theatres November 17
Battle of the Sexes
Emma Stone is Billie Jean King and Steve Carrell is Bobby Riggs in this dramedy about the eccentric but legendary 1973 gender battle between the two tennis greats, along with the media circus surrounding it. Sarah Silverman, Alan Cumming and Bill Pullman are among the powerful supporting cast.
“This one is really timely,” Johns said. “We all know that the Trump administration is not really spent in maintaining or exercising Title IX, so it is really important that we are reminded right now of the importance of equality for girls. Terrific functionality by Emma Stone, who brings out the vulnerability of Billie Jean King in an essential moment in her private life, and as an historic actor on behalf of girls.”
World premiere in Telluride and viewing at TIFF; in theatres September 22
Phone Me By Your Title
Hailed by many critics as the best gay movie of this year, this sensual adaptation of André Aciman’s book, set along the gorgeous Italian Riviera from the 1980s, stars Armie Hammer as Oliver, a studly young academic who planks with the household of 17-year-old Elio (Timothée Chalamet), sparking their fervent love.
“I am trying my very best to tune out all the huzzahs I have been hearing because Sundance about ‘Call Me’– hype can on occasion be a double-edged sword,” said noted movie critic and Outfest senior developer Alonso Duralde, who’s just returned from the Venice International Film Festival, “but I am a lover of those folks involved … and I have very little doubt it will live up to expectations.”
Screening at TIFF; in theatres November 24
My Times of Mercy
Lady Ellen Page attends the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival on September 13, 2015 in Toronto, Canada. Taylor Hill / FilmMagic
Ellen Page is Lucy, the daughter of a convicted murderer and an energetic protester against capital punishment. Kate Mara is Mercy, a strong death penalty supporter. Unexpectedly for both, they find themselves drawn together. Can their powerful fascination overcome their deep differences?
“It is exciting to see Page continue to follow through on her 2014 coming out with a different commitment to a LGBTQ function,” Johns said.
Professor Marston along with the Wonder Women
Inspired by an alluring pupil and ideals of feminine strength and liberation, 1920s Tufts psychology professor William Moulton Marston (Luke Evans) creates the DC Comics superhero Wonder Woman, meanwhile integrating the pupil (Bella Heathcote) to a three-way relationship with his wife, Elizabeth (Rebecca Hall), in this biopic directed by “D.E.B.S.” and “The L Word” veteran Angela Robinson.
“The timing for this couldn’t be better,” Duralde stated. “And if Angela Robinson makes a movie, attention has to be paid.”
World premiere in TIFF; in theatres October 13
120 Beats Per Minute
Robin Campillo (“Eastern Boys”) directed this strong story revolving around a bunch of activists in France’s ACT UP motion in the early 1990s. Winner of the Grand Prix in its debut in Cannes earlier this year, the movie stars Argentinean actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, veteran of gay-themed strikes “Glue” and “All Yours.”
“[I am] looking forward to the one,” Duralde stated. “We seem to have reached a point where we can return with some historic distance at the start of the AIDS epidemic, along with the testimonials out of Cannes were shining”
Screening at TIFF; in theatres October 20
Martyr
Within this stylized first feature by Lebanese manager Mazen Khaled, a bunch of marginalized young guys from various Beirut communities have to face the wake of the buddy’s mysterious drowning along with the unfamiliar rites of his loved ones.
“I am hearing very good hype,” Duralde stated. “It’s a story about homosexual Muslims from Lebanon, and because we don’t get lots of queer stories from that area of earth, I am sure LGBTQ festival developers will make an effort to look.”
World premiere in Venice
Reinventing Marvin
Finnegan Oldfield attends the “Marvin” photocall through the 74th Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2017 in Venice, Italy. Dominique Charriau / WireImage
Within this free adaptation of this 2014 French book “En Finir Avec Eddy Bellegueule” by Edouard Louis, writer/director Anne Fontaine (“Coco Before Chanel”) introduces the coming-out tale of Marvin, who is shunned for being homosexual in his little French hometown. Isabelle Huppert seems as herself.
World premiere in Venice
Love, Cecil
Artist Cecil Beaton attends the art opening of 600 Faces by Cecil Beaton on May 3, 1969 in the Museum of New York City in New York City. Ron Galella / WireImage
Lisa Immordino Vreeland (“Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Traveling”) directs this fascinating biography of English photographer Cecil Beaton, who distinctively excelled in war, fashion and celebrity picture photography, and was likewise an Academy Award costume designer for “Gigi” and “My Fair Lady.”
World premiere in Telluride
The Prince and the Dybbuk
Yet another profile of an unsung homosexual film legend, this doc looks in the intriguing and frequently mystery-shrouded lifetime of Michael Waszyński, the aristocratic manager of one of Poland’s most import pre-war Yiddish films, “The Dybbuk,” who later produced several Hollywood epics like “The Fall of the Roman Empire.”
World premiere in Venice
Scotty and the Secret of Hollywood
Scotty Bowers on October 28, 2014, in Los Angeles, California. Charley Gallay / Getty Images for DSquared2
Interestingly a buddy to the aforementioned Cecil Beaton, Scotty Bowers, was one of Hollywood’s most exclusive male escorts and prolific pimps through its Golden Age. This titillating documentary profiles Bowers, who’s now in his 90s, as he looks back at some of his most legendary hookups, customers and confidants, including Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Vincent Price and George Cukor.
Porcupine Lake
Slovak-Canadian manager Ingrid Veninger presents this tale of two adolescent women, big-city Bea and small-town Kate, who locate summer love — and escape from their unpleasant home lives — in Ontario cottage country.
