you know something? the "battery acid spaghetti" post is the perfect example of why you couldn't do lovecraftian horror set in the modern day. because all it would take is one person posting, "i am going to attempt The Ritual" followed by "update: oh my god, The Horrors"

first you'd get the people going, "what horrors, op?" "op, tell us about the horrors." "we would like to see the horrors"

then you'd get someone going, "fine, if op wont show us The Horrors then im just going to do The Ritual myself!" ... "update: oh my god, The Horrors"

and after that it would just be post after post of people attempting the ritual and reporting back that there are indeed horrors while other people refuse to believe it until they try it themselves

humanity would be over in like a day, tops
