I’ve watched Trese and is the one I plan to include. I’ve never seen Barangay 143, but I have heard of it.
I don't really know other filo anime that are series. I know of The Lovers (which I don't know if it's already out) and Iti Mapukpukaw (the Philippines' entry to the 96th Academy Awards), but neither are series and I also haven't watched them...

Are there any anime’s based on Philippine culture?
you'd be hard pressed to find anything filipino related when it comes to japan but there's the sports anime Barangay 143 if that's your speed
there's also this short series on youtube Manila Memories that highlights the best parts of Manila, the philippine's capital
and just for good measure, Trese became the first international filipino anime in 2021. it's a singaporean-produced series based off of a supernatural and crime filipino graphic novel and is available through netflix

Agusan del Norte Governor: Peace and Reconciliation
A Call for Resolution
In a significant move towards peace and reconciliation, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) in Eastern Mindanao is rallying behind Agusan del Norte Governor Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante's efforts to expedite the cases of former rebels (FRs).
Motivating Surrender
In a statement released on a Monday afternoon, Elisa Evangelista-Lapiña, Director of OPAPRU Eastern Mindanao, explained that this initiative aims to persuade the remaining New People's Army (NPA) rebels in the province to lay down their arms and embrace a peaceful future.
Challenges Facing FRs
Lapiña emphasized, "The remaining armed combatants are apprehensive about returning to the folds of the law due to their pending court cases." As of September 25, OPAPRU data revealed that around 122 FRs in Agusan del Norte are entangled in legal proceedings.
A Call for Coordination
"To achieve our goal," Lapiña stressed, "there is a need to strengthen the coordination between other government agencies, such as the Public Attorney's Office, the Provincial Government of Agusan del Norte, and volunteer legal partners, who will actively monitor the progress of FRs' cases."
Stories of Redemption
Among those who have found hope in this move are Ka Adel and Ka Rosa, former NPA insurgents who expressed gratitude for the initiative. Adel, facing murder and frustrated murder charges, surrendered late last year and is currently processing benefits from the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program. Meanwhile, Rosa, who surrendered on January 5 this year, is grappling with attempted murder cases.
Voices from the FRs
"The move to help us fast-track the resolution of our cases is a relief," Rosa expressed in a phone interview on Tuesday. These cases, she emphasized, are burdens that former rebels continue to carry as they strive to reintegrate into their communities. The resolution of these legal matters not only signifies justice but also offers FRs a fresh start to become productive members of society once again.
A Beacon of Hope
Last week, the provincial government of Agusan del Norte and OPAPRU jointly inaugurated the Kagawasan 143 Peace Center in Barangay Bancasi. This pioneering peace center is aimed at fostering understanding and providing support to FRs who have chosen the path of peace and reconciliation.

The center's vision extends beyond symbolism; moreover, it serves as a tangible resource hub for FRs, offering them the necessary tools and opportunities to reintegrate seamlessly into society. This monumental step, furthermore, signifies a deep commitment to healing wounds, rebuilding lives, and ultimately, forging a lasting peace in the region.

If you ask me if Barangay 143 is really good...
My answer is that as a telenovela, it's completely mediocre... [SPOILERS AHEAD] Child looking for his parent, his impending drama and rivalry with his half-brother, the revelation of who his dad is, the evil wife of his dad that's willing to get her hands dirty to protect the fake perfect image of her family, her son who is just so tired of everything and feels everything is wrong but can't also act against his parents-- it's like basic soap opera logic. I literally saw a car and said-- wow bitches really be dying and then they died in a car accident then and there. [SPOILERS END]
But as an anime, it's new because Anime doesn't really touch on Soap opera troupes that much. So this might be a little new in that respect. Its best points for me though is how well they make things Filipino with the subtle things. The way they design the houses, the school where Vicky studied, the softdrinks in plastic bags, the design of the beer bottles, the orange juice they called "bang" which is really just tang, the cemetery which everyone seems to go back to all the time, even the arrogant car of Wax is the "rich pinoy fuckboi car"--- it did a good job showing the subtle things. Really gotta give that one to the animation team

Also Bren knows some Filipino from his nanny and not from his mom like I expected. I’m kinda disappointed - because his mother’s letter was in Filipino - but not quite surprised. I do wish they kinda showed the nanny a bit tho. Maybe don’t make the invisible servants actually invisible.

Episode over: OK, so I’m really enjoying this, subpar voice acting aside. The animation is choppy but as it’s our first anime, I’m being extremely forgiving in that regard.
So far the plot is hitting all the beats of the story it wants to tell. This isn’t bad, and it handles those beats pretty decently. It’s also pretty early so I’m going to wait before asking to be surprised (especially after killing people last episode, the surprise quota is filled for several episodes).
So far, I think it’s doing well enough that I can recommend it to other people. Though please watch it through legal channels. Don’t pirate it, we could really use the money.
