I have no words for how emotional this debut screening was. The obstacles that have to be surmounted for a DEBUT feature film from an African female director to get into COMPETITION at Cannes is hard to put into words. Ramata-Toulaye Sy is only the second black woman to make it into Cannes Competition in the festival’s 76-year history and I can say I witnessed it. Her standing ovation was so well deserved and earned. Watching her receive the applause for her beautiful film #Banelandadama left us all in tears. And the fact that @realnessinstitute alum @s.kebe_bn co-produced it meant my tears couldn’t stop. I am so proud of you Souleymane! Well done to the entire team.
