2 MELLO & MILLION SUNDAY - "SEEK your SOUND"
A collaborative EP releasing March 15!
This is "Goin In", the first song from the EP.
Pre-order: https://2mellomakes.bandcamp.com/album/seek-your-sound
https://2mello.net/store
Album art by Ellie Reis (https://www.elliereis.com/)
Additional graffiti art by TORI (https://linktr.ee/tori_vsthewrld)
More music from MILLION SUNDAY (https://millionsunday.bandcamp.com)
This project is a first-time thing for both of us, collaborating directly with another producer on the same tracks for an entire EP. "SEEK your SOUND" is not just its name, but also a directive to all our listeners who make music--and even a goal for ourselves as we worked on this. An encouragement to find the best sounds and methods that let you express yourself, and to keep finding and holding onto them when creating gets tough.

Maybe it'll turn out better this time: A love letter to all the joy and sorrow that this story has given me
(Art by @blogofyolo)
Here's the first of two tracks I had on Land of Fans and Music 5 Act 2, which came out two days ago! I'm dedicating this one to @utopianparadoxist, who wrote the post that made this track appear in my mind in such blinding clarity I couldn't stop making until it was done.
I also have some extended commentary about this one--it's more important to me than I give it credit for.
When I finished reading Homestuck, I was...disappointed. That disappointment morphed gradually into disgust as I watched schisms violently open in the fandom following the Epilogues and Homestuck^2, and in the process I felt like I'd lost something.
I kept thinking that maybe, if I just read the comic again, it would turn out different. Maybe it'd be the story I'd once loved and it would fill me with breathless wonder again. Maybe it'd be better.
But earlier this year, a post by uP crossed my dash after he'd disappeared from my periphery for well over a year. He was outlining his plans surrounding Pumpkin Path, a story he's writing that runs adjacent to the Epilogues and (eventually though not yet?) gives these characters the futures they've earned.
And I realised...the way I'd been thinking about it, that's not how it works, y'know? It's not the story that has changed: it's my heart, my relationship with it. And the best thing I could do was take what this once-beloved story gave me and make something new with it. And that's what many people have done in the wake of Homestuck's end: we've all gone off and made new stories, for which this long-beloved comic was an undeniable progenitor.
It reminded me of a certain recurring motif in the comic itself. Every time the universe resulted in a corrupt or barren session, the players...well, they rebooted it. They left the old universe behind, and started a new one, billions of years all over again just to see where it would go this time.
There was no use in searching for the story that used to be, because it was me that had changed.
You may as well leave that old universe behind and start a new one from scratch.
This is the idea that seeded the above track, and it caught me off guard, because it was the first Homestuck music I had made in more than two years--after I thought I'd sworn it off for good. And then, two days later, Maybe it'll turn out better this time was done. (Two days is, by the way, a very short time for a track to emerge.) It was a small, silly, wonderful little thing, a sapling in the ashes, that proved to me that things could change.
But beyond my track, the entirety of LOFAM5A2 feels especially so. It's a startling breath of fresh air that emerged from so much genuine joy and excitement. I'm happy I got to contribute even just a little work to it and I really, really hope that the fandom sees it for all that went into it. An UMSPAF manager once said that my music always sounds hopeful, but it was never intentional until this one. Thank you to everyone who's made good art that has inspired others in turn, you create life with your own hands.

Todays rip: 02/12/2023
snow halation but it shreds
Season 4 Episode 2
Featured on: Halation Celebration ~ 10th Anniversary Tribute to Snow halation
Ripped by Joshua Taipale, Nolithium ft. Charles Ritz
December 2020. Near the end of Season 4 Episode 2, closing out SiIvaGunner's fifth year straight of running, a new project is suddenly unveiled to us as part of the SiIvaGunner All-Star Winter Festival. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of Love Live's Snow Halation, a song closely tied to the channel's history, the SiIvaGunner team unveiled "Halation Celebration" - a full-on arrangement album featuring two dozen contributions both from within the team and from external submissions. You can sort of trace a journey here, from the original King for a Day Tournament, to the King for Another Day Tournament, to Halation Celebration, and to Season 5 and beyond - the journey that would eventually form "SiIvaGunner Fusion Records", the branding used to denote these sorts of full-scale arrangement projects in the future.
I've talked about a few of these in the past - hell, the blog's first-ever post was on Running Through Cookie Country from SGFR's "Super Star Symphony" project, and later on I'd cover *** EVERYTHING IS FINE *** from the first SGFR release of Season 7 - "Shovelware from Beyond the Deep!". Yet for as great as all these projects are, it all truly began with a Christmas celebration - it all began with Snow Halation, and for my money snow halation but it shreds was one of the utmost best parts of that celebration.
And that's not to disparage or dismiss any of the other contributions - like every SGFR release, Halation Celebration is filled with tons of different interpretations, different styles and creators all outputting at an utmost high level of quality, to where it almost does feel a little bad to pick just one favorite. Yet I am at the end of the day merely a Sonic fan, a total sucker for punk-rock and wailing electric guitars - and snow halation but it shreds is quite literally exactly what it promises on the tin. And its a fantastic performance - though I adored hearing the arrangements from SiIva's mainstay rippers, its just as fascinating to hear contributions from people like Joshua Taipale and Nolithium, who contribute despite otherwise not being associated with the channel! And the two are EXCELLENT musicians in their own right - something that I only discovered through this arrangement.
Holiday cheer can be a lot of things, and there's going to be a variety of different rips featured on the blog during the month to truly encompass that (and some more silly stuff too, don't worry!). Yet its in large part about appreciation and celebration, of shared and spread love and joy. And that feeling transcends any sort of conventions of music genres - that joy can be felt, even through the shredding riffs of snow halation but it shreds. Every part of Halation Celebration is an absolute gift, and I'm eternally going to be grateful for it playing part in kickstarting SGFR, and introducing me to so many talented musicians both inside the team and out.

PIRATE MY ALBUM!!!
(Just message me on Tumblr to ask for a download!)
That’s right! I’m giving this Pikmin fan album away for free! At least 24 hours after you message me, I will hand you the audio of these songs on a gold-and-silver platter for you to enjoy!
(Of course, it would be more convenient to just buy the thing, but at least I’m giving you the choice to pirate it if you can’t afford it.)
What is this?
"'And so shall your greed be your downfall,' the Nymph said, 'as your pets and your toys, despising you for your gross perversion of nature in search of profit, destroy and demean you with their greater size. Your drive and your ego will be obliterated as you learn to once again fear the death in the night you believe you conquered so long ago.'"
It all started when Pikmin 4 was announced. It got me back to playing Pikmin 2 on my Gamecube. When I was going through the caves of the game, I had a startling realization: The cave music in this game is a little boring.
That got me thinking about if a nightcore version of the song “Soil 2″ would sound better. It was alright, but I wasn’t satisfied with it. I then slowed down the “Metal 2” theme to find that it was fantastic! Some more maneuvering with the Equalizer and the addition of slight reverb proved a fantastic idea!
I couldn’t just keep this to myself. But I also couldn’t sell it. So I decided to make covers of these songs instead. Not wanting to show myself as being creatively bankrupt, I also threw in some original songs I finally cooked up. (Olimar rap, anyone?)
Don’t get me wrong, these songs were quite difficult to make! (Or, re-make?) In fact, the only song that could be called easy was Left Behind At Sunset, which, well, we don’t talk about how or when I made most that one.
Hey! I also wrote some cool stories on the individual tracks’ information pages on Bandcamp, so make sure to check those out for some more cool Pikmin content!
NINTENDO OWNS ALL RIGHTS TO PIKMIN, AND TO THE VOICES OF THE PIKMIN, CAPTAIN OLIMAR, AND LOUIE.
THE RIGHTS TO THE STRUCTURES OF CERTAIN SONGS BELONG TO HAJIME NAKAI. THE SONGS THEMSELVES TECHNICALLY BELONG TO ME, BUT REALLY BELONG TO ANYONE WHO HAS THEM DOWNLOADED.

Was tagged by @oceancamp to post my current five favorite songs! (They should invent a stages-of-grief-esque model that encompasses and accurately describes both types of anguish I had to go through making this list - the one of limiting myself to only five songs, and the one of trying to put as little videogame music on here as possible so that I don't end up looking like an absolute goddamn geek, which... I am... Oh well!)
Thank you so much for tagging me - here are the songs!
Heaven Pierce Her - War Without Reason
Tatsuro Yamashita - Love Space
This specific arrangement of Death And Republic + Meet Again
Winger - Junkyard Dog (Tears On Stone)
The Protomen - Light Up The Night
Is it courtesy to tag other people after you've been tagged in a post like this? If that's the case, I'll tag @spiralled-fury, @solradguy, @swamppossum, @five-by-five, @northstarring, @ineedmoredragons and @tbonechessor!
