when we meet kristen applebees she is beginning a journey that will entirely destroy every notion her and her family and everyone she has ever been closely acquainted with’s outline of the world. she is beginning to see the cracks in the mortar, but it is hard to leave the old world behind for something uncertain and frightening and dangerously off key. this one is about the kristen with one foot still cheerily praying to helio, singing camp songs in harmony, mere moments of her life away from taking the leap away from the world she’s always known.

for the first time kristen is lost and alone and faithless, in absence of a god or a goddess and fully aware of the one she left behind glaring down at her. she is afraid, but she does not want to be saved. this is what she has to do and it hurt, and she does it with every terrifying possibility that she could be wrong.

but i can’t help it / i’m falling for you / and i can’t quit / ‘cause i’m stuck on you / and it might be pathetic / and you might be skeptical / but i just want to be with you

as terrible as it may be for everything to pile on, oftentimes your faith crisis and your sexuality crisis coincide in big ways. enter tracker o'shaughnessey.

iv. you’re the only thing in your way by cloud cult

you are the wind, the flood and the flame / nothing here can get in your way / you’ve come too far to care what they say / now you’re the only thing in your way

and sometimes the girl you love sees you in the light of your overthinking view of the world, in your imperfections and efforts to make things right. she also knows when to tell you to shut up because you’re rambling about your doubt of your god of doubt and knows that you’ll find your way soon. and if you don’t, that’s alright too.

v. various storms and saints by florence + the machine

but still you stumble, your feet give way / outside the world seems a violent place / but you had to have him, and so you did / you sing out loud “who made us this way” / you don’t need no edge to cling from / your heart is there, it’s in your hands

saint kristen applebees. fear is not real. shedding the light of helio once and for all into the complete unknown of the nightmare king and the nameless goddess and she will die if she gets it wrong. she doesn’t. enter cassandra.

vi. better look back by lucius

give us a reason why you’re feeding us this way / our minds are thirsty and our appetites depraved / this whole thing keeps us in a daze / never quite figure it out the questions remain / better look back ‘cause i see that (that) better than before

kristen applebees has grown so incredibly much since the first episode of fantasy high, and she will continue to grow. and every time she looks back she’ll realize confidently that she’s always better than she was before. all the weight of the doubt she lives is worth it for change.
