Under the cut, some experiments I did with dithering and different image formats. Dithering used were custom-made ordered dithering and Floyd-Steinberg dithering algorithms, formats were converted with ImageMagick.

in general, jpegging a dithered image greatly increases its size, with barely any difference in quality (with my fetish for dithering, it's a downgrade)
it also seems that ordered dithering takes about half the size of floyd-steinberg dithering, and can be similar in size to the original
however, in the first case it has a marginally large increase in size for reasons I can't deduce ?!?
also, the squares are still off, which causes it to look ugly, make sure they work well!

there is no distinguishable visual difference between file formats anymore, even with my keen eye and various zoom levels (I mean ok file I can tell which is which, but let's not
boast too much)
HOWEVER the memory ratio between the formats remains, so that settles it
In the case of b, the original image contains no shading and almost no coloring, thus we perceive a reduction in colors leading to an actual REDUCTION in memory used
idfk about the others tho
Imho ordered dithering doesn't only use less memory than floyd-steinberg dithering, but its visual representations are also much more pleasing
I am still intrigued about the source of the original/dithered ratios
Also, compare to raw image in png file format (even though I already know it will probably be more)

(also, I know it;’s not fair but that is the only image I own the rights to so it’s the only one I post :D I might do some bulk testing when I’m back home, so that’ll be more general.)

Year of Solum Event Begins!
We wish Imber well as she retires from quizzing everyone on genetics and raining on Ignis’s parade, as we usher in a new monthly event for the Year of Solum!
Solum’s event harkens back to previous team competitions we’ve had on Indomita in the past! The big old draft is preparing for some Vesanus renovations and is looking to the equines of Ortus for aid. Donations of all sorts will be appreciated at the Renovation Preparation Donation Station!
Each player has been sorted onto one of three teams: Honestas, Spero, and Formido. When you visit the donation station, Solum will ask you for a random item from your horse’s inventory. If you have none of these items, you may choose to request a different item instead. If you have available donations, you can donate as many of that item as you’d like for points!
You will have a maximum of five donations available at once. Once you’ve donated that many times, you will have to wait. One donation will be restored to you every half hour (up to that max of five).
Donations grant you points, which can be seen in the shop side of the Donation Station. These points can be exchanged in two ways. You can exchange your points for Slate, Solum’s shop token, at a rate of 20 points per one shale, and a maximum of 30 slate per player per day. You can donate your extra points to your team’s score!
Solum’s shop this year features two companions: The Philippine Eagle and the Barrington Iguana. It also features two new genes - Tinguo (Espresso) and Caenos+! Tinguo (Espresso) will overlay a faint espresso color on your horse like other Tinguos. Caenos+ requires Caenos to activate, but will turn countershading, celo, sooty, and evorsus into the Caenos (brown) shade! Here’s some examples:
Solum’s Gift is the God’s special item. When used, this item activates a bonus for all leader horses in the faction for 3 days (72 hours - starting from when the item is used). This bonus will increase the leaders’ chances of finding NPCs, and also increase the chance that those NPCs will have more genes!
So why donate to your team, besides the joy of saying “Hah! We win!”? Well, we have some excellent prizes planned. We’ll reveal these prizes soon, but for now, know that prizes will be awarded to:
-- All donating participants on all teams.
-- All donating participants on the winning team.
-- The top donors for each team.
What’s this mean? As long as you donate to your team at least once, you will get one prize; if you donate and your team wins, you’ll get two. And if you’re one of the top donors, you’ll get three!

You’ll notice when donating that you might see item names you don’t recognize. It’s okay - Solum might ask for items that aren’t currently released, and you can always ask for a new item. However, there are also many crafting recipes that have been enabled, and crafted items tend to give more points! We’ll also soon be revealing the names of recipes to help you discover them, but get your crafting caps on!

Oh! While we're at it - we changed Wheel of Wow! It is actually the same as it was before, prize wise, but instead of spinning a wheel, you choose to pick your prize from one of three bags. No more arrow pointing nonsense!
